Dubose Porter on a run for governor

dubose1.jpg

House Minority Leader DuBose Porter, an attorney and newspaper publisher from Dublin, edged closer to a 2010 race for governor, in an interview with Tim Bryant this morning on WGAU (1340AM) in Athens.

Listen to a three-minute sound clip here.

“I feel like I’ve done enough. I’ve been involved as Zell Miller’s floor leader, I’ve been speaker pro tem of the Georgia House, I’ve been leading our caucus for the last four years and I just think it’s a great opportunity to set the priorities that we think are important for our state,” the Democrat said.

Porter rattled off a series of issues he’s likely to focus on — cuts to education, alleged attacks the HOPE scholarship, water planning, and trauma care, to name a few.

When will he make a decision? Like everyone else, Porter said, “After November. You have to get through this election cycle.”

Porter has the credentials, vision, experience, tenacity, fundraising capabilities, and some other needed qualities to be not only a formidable candidate, but also a great Governor.

He certainly has a shot. I would like to see where he stands on he issues. Is he a conservative Democrat in the mold of George Busbee and Zell Miller or a liberal Democrat in the mold of Roy Barnes? A Busbee/Miller Democrat will get my vote over Richardson and Cagle any day.

Gary…

Porter is a Conservative to Moderate Democrat, which is the only way he could be to represent the conservative area he has all these many years.

He is definitely not in the mold of Zell Miller, the great pretender. What you see is what you get from him. He does not shift with the wind and certainly is not full of himself.

Zell the pretender?? He was the last great conservative Democrat of this state. This state prospered under that man. If Porter is that kind of Democrat, as you say he is, then he has a chance to win my vote. Of course if he runs he will have a chance to explain himself.

What significant piece of legislation have you ever written DuBose? And those issues you’d like to focus on, well focus on them now…oh yeah, I forgot, you’re too buy rolling over for Republicans every day. And you and your fellow Dem’s did such a great job with transportation all those years you ran the show before 2002. GDOT has been a acrid hellhole of waste, bloat , sexism, good ole boy network, etc. long before Sonny Do as elected. MARTA got no support from you or Barnes or anyone else.

You’re old news DuBose Porter, if the Dem’s want achance in 2010, they better find some fresh blood.

Dubose Porter is a very abrasive and devisive figure. Just go to Laurens County and ask most anyone there. I don’t think he would have a prayer of getting elected. Casey Cagle or Karen Handle would trounce him in the general election. Porter is one of those Democrats who takes credit for lots of things he never did.

who cares what the man wears on his head its not about that its what is in his head and his heart that matters.i believe mr.porter has done an excellent job of representing the citizens of his district and i wll be proud to support him.its time for things to occur in places other than perry and warner robins.to use another persons line it is time for a change and change is a coming and to even compare mr.porter to casey cagle give me a break we should send mr.cagle back to the chicken farm.

Dubose Porter would make a great Gov. of Ga. He has been involved in government for many years. We would be lucky to have his as our Governor!

Go to Laurens County and ask anyone there…? He won his last election down here, when he had opposition by 76%. A Democrat that takes an election by that much is very much loved in Laurens County. This time,2008, he nor the Republican Senator had opposition and DuBose got more votes than the Senator. You decide.
