And it’s over.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Columbus, Ga. — The state GOP convention adjourned just a few minutes ago, after electing what Republicans officials were calling a “unity slate” of delegates to the national convention.
A good bit of fractiousness erupted on the floor during the adoption of resolutions, as some delegates — many of them Ron Paul supporters — questioned a ruling on a voice vote by convention chairman Randy Evans.
Several delegates began shouting from the floor. And a large shout erupted from the floor when one delegate announced from the mike that he would vote against a resolution in support of the Iraq war because, he said, the conflict had nothing to do with the internal security of the United States.
Things settled down after when the convention got down to the business of electing the delegates. Rebels on the floor wanted a delegate-by-delegate selection process. But once Evans called for insurgents to stand and show their numbers — perhaps 10 percent or more of the convention — things settled down.

Insurgents? Rebels? Harsh words. Let me guess: All of your information came from the state GOP, right?
Figures. Why continually side with them? Nevada should have shown you that the GOP has become a top-down authoritarian party that must be reformed.
The Unity Slates are a joke. More like a Drone Slate, Defeat Slate, whatever you like. The slippery slope just slid steeper. America is headed down a trend of increasing presidential power and increasing hegemony. Put an end to American Imperialism!

“Unity slate”? wtf? GOP - I’ll be at my state convention and I’ll be damned if I’m showing “unity” to McCain. You’re going to lose in November and I’m going to do my best to make sure you understand that the loss (as in 2006) was due to the GOP party heads not listening to the people. The neo-cons have ruined the GOP.

“Unity Slate?” Strong order to call for Unity with Senator McCain-Hyphen. When will McCain make the “pledge” to support the GOP? I have been a republican since 1992. I will not be one in 2009. The GOP can deal with the “small c” conservative presence, or they can deal with our absence. They’ve made it clear which they prefer. Bob Barr 2008.

Some master conspiracy, huh? Only the conspiracy was on Ron Paul’s supporters.
I don’t get how changing the rules the day before all the delegates are present, and voting to approve them without a quorum present isn’t an affront to the democratic process. And to think, it was done so that we Ron Paul supporters wouldn’t get the chance to participate. It troubles me to think that kind of decision making is pervasive throughout the party even at the highest levels. I hope quelling dissent at any cost to give the appearance of UNITY to outsiders was worth it.
The height of irony is how many people came up to me afterward to say how much they respected me for standing up for suspension of the rules.

Randy Evans, who chaired the GOP State Convention, is a cheater and a total fraud. In his columns for the rinky dink newspaper The Northside Neighbor, he never acknowledged Ron Paul’s presence in the 2008 election. I’m looking forward to the day when he and the GOP Neocon Hack Old Guard get thrown out on their rear ends. It will be SWEET revenge!!

I’m no longer a GOP supporter. I will not be voting for Republicans in the coming elections. They just are not the type of people that I want to be associated with. For openers, Huckabee can take his gun and point it at his party. Perdue can follow up with his song and dance about gimmicks while proclaiming “Let us Prey”.
Pathetic bunch of losers.

Funny how the Romney, Huckabee, Thompson, and even Giuliani camps all had delegates on the “unity slate”, yet the Paul delegates, who made a very sizable showing at the convention, get railroaded. While Paul supporters certainly were not in the majority, I would definitely argue that we made up more than 10 percent of those in attendance.
At any rate, does the GOP think that alienating those that actually believe in conservative principals does any good for the party? After the corruption I witnessed today, I question whether taking the Republican party back from the neoconservatives is the proper strategy. Perhaps, we let them fall on their own swords, making way for Libertarian party to move in. After all, thanks to the neocons, so much damage has been done to the “Republican” label that who knows how long it would take just to clean up the tarnished name.

Conservatism is dead. Sen Craig sounded taps, with his flag at half mast.

The curious george t-shirt that conservatives wear prove only that the conservatives are surrender monkeys. Surrender monkeys wearing surrender monkey t-shirts!
I’m a liberal, and I demand the surrender of Osama Bin Laden, and I order our army to destroy him now. Ditto al queda.
The conservatives can wear their voter ID surrender monkey tshirt with curious george on it all they want. I aint surrendering.
The t-shirt: it’s the GOP’s voter ID requirement. You have to be a coward traitor surrender monkey in order to vote.

Jim Galloway didn’t have to “take the word of the GOP”…he was present at the convention.

Jim was blogging from the press area about 15 feet from me as the whole thing went down. EVERYONE who’s been to more than one GAGOP convention knows that Rules and the first Credential reports are done on Friday. The Convention begins on FRIDAY. People who worry about that stuff show up on FRIDAY to vote. We have these things every year but midterm election years.
The Georgia Ron Paul supporters ended up paying for the sins of their conterparts in NV. I voted against the Amerinca Solutions resolution and did not like how some of the rulings of the Chair went, but I know Randy Evans VERY well and I also know that no matter how many times you preside as a convention chair, no matter how use you are to public speaking, it’s a very different perspective and afterwards, you always think of things you wish you did differently. So no I didn’t agree with everything he did up there, but there is no one else I’d rather have had Chairing on Friday and Saturday than Randy Evans.
Railroading is when you are the majority and lose. 10% of the voting delegates losing is not railroading.

Railroading is quickly pushing something through in order to prevent careful consideration and possible criticism or obstruction. But whatever, you get my point, as you yourself voted against the AS resolution. And I’m sure you’d agree that the vote was divided.
But, the Chair should be careful to never let any personal bias toward a proposed resolution affect his judgement when calling the vote. He was Chairman at our 6th district convention, and he did a good job there, but I was very dissatisfied with the way that particular ruling was handled.
As for Friday, I certainly would have been there, but I didn’t have the option, nor did many others, of not having to be at work at 10am on a Friday. It’s definitely not that I was not concerned with what went on the first day. Such a crucial vote, like voting to supersede Robert’s Rules with another set of rules, should be taken when most delegates are able to weight in on the issue, not when just a privileged few are able to attend.
