Vernon Jones: ‘The Duke lacrosse team was falsely accused, too’

On WGAU (1340AM) in Athens this morning, host Tim Bryant had Vernon Jones, the Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate, on the line — and played for him the accusations that his rival, Dale Cardwell, made the week before.

What was Jones’ response? At first, none at all. Listen to a sound clip here.

“Gasoline is four dollars a gallon. A gallon of milk now is four dollars. The war has been mismanaged,” Jones began. “At the same time, 8,000 homes are being foreclosed on per day. Jobs are leaving America and going to other countries.”

The DeKalb County CEO spoke of fiscal responsibility and balanced budgets. “That’s what people are concerned with now, not baseless allegations, not [by] someone who doesn’t have a record to run on,” he said.

But Bryant persisted: “Dale Cardwell called you a rapist. If somebody called me that and I didn’t do it, I’m looking for that guy.”

Replied Jones: “Here’s what’s interesting. Those boys at [the] Duke University lacrosse team were called that, too. Their character and reputation was assassinated because of people who wanted to just blurt things out. I’m on your show to talk about issues that are hurting America.”

A good slice of the Cardwell interview from last week can be found here.

Great journalism, Jim. Thanks for giving every patron here the ability to know the truth of Vernon J. with the click of a mouse. It certainly shines more light on his reprobate state of mind.

We the Jury find for the plantiff, Dale Cardwell. Good job outing a transparent sociopath yet in public office. Pity Dekalb County.

No wonder Vernon voted for lying homosexual draft-dodger George Bush, twice. From Vernon’s response, he and Bush are two-of-a-kind.

Will,

Do you have a job, you are the new vent-king. Maybe you should go swallow a Jesus wafer and some holy wine from the local Catholic church. Anus contemptnuts.

Hey Vern, hasn’t DeKalb County lost a bunch of jobs since you’ve been in office? And the only ones you helped to create were low pay retail and fast food.

If Dale Caldwel wants a better showing he had better take off his Investigative Reporter clothes. If there is one thing in this election that is clear…voters are not responding very well to negativism. They are responding more to suggestions about how to get us out of the mess created by Bush and his supporters of the last seven plus years.

Nothing negative about “evangelical honesty.” That’s all we need in government: honest people, obedient to The Mottoes, worthy of being made El-ect by The People…not bought and paid for by special interests.

I always wondered what the response would be when VJ is confronted with his acts. This didn’t include the land deals. He and thinkers like him are what’s wrong with this country. Change starts with replacing the bad or non representative people. Is honesty that dangerous? If the past has not shown us who these paid for candidates are, then we are doomed.

Politicians are human beings. Just like us they make mistakes. Just like us they get hurt by exgirlfriends, exboyfriends, exhusbands and haters who are out to get us. Vernon Jones isn’t perfect. Dale Cardwell isn’t perfect either. But at least we know his issues. Dale Cardwell is an investigative journalist NOT a politician and who knows what he will do if he gets into politics. I live in Dekalb county and I see the hard work that Vernon has done. I say great job!

Actually, RAND KNIGHT is as close to perfect as we’re going to get in a Senate candidate. He’s uncorrupted by the sleaze machine hooked up to those already in power. He’s young enough to still believe in, and stand up & fight for, his ideals. He’s smart, energetic, and full of ideas to take this back-azzward state into the economic future without destroying it in the process. Miiiiighty easy on the eyes, too!
