John Barrow brings five African-American lawmakers to his side
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
The lack of public African-American support for Jim Martin in the Democratic race for U.S. Senate was duly noted this week — a side effect of the Obama/Clinton clash in the stratosphere of the presidential race.
Others aren’t having quite the same problem building that biracial coalition so essential to success for pale candidates in a Democratic primary.
Rand Knight, another white Democrat in the U.S. Senate race, has in his corner Denise Majette, the 2004 Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate — who is, of course, black.
U.S. Rep. John Barrow of Savannah has found himself challenged by state Sen. Regina Thomas of Savannah, an African-American Democrat.
But the incumbent Barrow, who is white, just announced his endorsement by every member of the Democratic delegation in upriver Augusta. State Sen. Ed Tarver, and state Reps. Quincy Murphy, Gloria Frazier, Wayne Howard and Hardie Davis are all African-American.
State Sen. J.B. Powell endorsed Barrow as well. He is white.

Dear Fellow Americans,
Our Great-grand Nation, the United States of America is and will face very critical and substantial “Challenges” in coming, months, years, and decades to come. It is very essential that we pick out our next President on following criteria in mind.
A candidate with “Vision and Mission”.
A candidate with ” Stable Character and Integrity” .
A candidate with “Presidential Temperament” and
“stable Judgment”.
A candidate with “little “Washington” exposure” and “real connectedness with New Voters”.
A candidate who “Inspires us up” rather than “Tears us down”.
A candidate not based on sexism, racism, and ageism.
In my professional and personal opinion, the only candidate who has the above qualities and characteristics and is also cool, calm, and collected is Senator Obama.
As an independent registered voter since 1980. I voted for Carter, voted for Reagan, voted for First Bush, and second Bush in 2000 and In the process last interest in Washington politics as usual and I stopped voting. Not a good idea under any circumstance particularly at present.
This time we can not afford to stay on side lines and let Washington stay the same.We can not afford our Greatgreat Nation to become less than what we are and can be.
We need to send clear and candid message to the world and some 24 hour partisan hateful media. These media outlets are trying to deprive, dupe, and derail us from getting it right this time.
They are trying there best to deny us better rather than bitter future. { Our Greatgrand Nations people are persistently and constantly subjected to Psychological terrorism” without their knowledge thru these hateful partisan media outlets.
We Americans are should not and would not to allow them psychologically terrorized, traumatized and silence us this time.
I am sure that we will get it right this time and elect Senator Obama our next President. let us not get dragged down into racism, sexism and ageism.
Let us remember that our Greatgrand is constituted of family, friends, fellowships, faith, funds, foundation, fun, and future with fairness and freedom and without fear or favor.
We can not afford to lose any of above. Let us stand up, be counted, save, build our Greatgrand Nation for centuries to come and regain our world economic, and power status back.
God Bless our Great grand Nation and its diverse people.
Our Greatgrand nation needs present and future stability, security, safety, sustained progress and restoration of our due status in this perilous Global World at the all levels.
Yours sincerely,

All of these candidates need to start focusing on how they’d handle this HUGE outrage. http://acropolisreview.com/2008/04/senate-democrats-investigate-taxpayer.html

You mean Hardie’s not a Republican? Since when?

So Jim, according to your geographic infighting expertise, does this mean that Athens and Augusta team up against Savannah?

Barrow is drawing support while Martin is not due to the fact that the D.C. Senate committee went out and recruited a candidate after a viable African American was already in the race. That was sad.

Mableton Mom hits on something that the Democrats seem to do alot down here. I’ve been a Democrat all my life and wouldn’t vote for the other side but I’m beginning to worry that the party is forgetting that many of our voters are black. Where I vote there are more black voters than white voters in the Democratic primaries but the state party keeps endorsing the rich white guy. They’ve done it with Martin now. They did it with Marlow last year and he was living in Atlanta, but they brought him to Lincolnton when there were already two black ladies in the race. It’s the same with John Barrow in a way. Sure he’s the incumbent but the party didn’t have to endorse anybody until the general election. I wonder when the black voters are going to sit home? If we keep doing this to their candidates, I don’t see why they wouldn’t.

In all seriousness - I know Hardie is technically a Democrat - I wonder why Barrow is out there touting these endorsements? Ever seen the disaster otherwise known as Augusta government in action? It’s terrible! If I were Barrow, I’d be running away from these guys!

Barrow is going to crush Thomas in the primary & then he is going to crush a weak republican opponent whoever that will be.

Obama needs to come to Georgia and stump for all his brothers and sisters! If he can do it, yes we can!

I think it’ll be hilarious if Barrow loses the primary with all that money. I know it’s a long shot, but I’m pulling for Regina! She’s been a great state senator, and she’s a real Democrat - not a Bush Dog.
