A push poll targeting Glenn Richardson?
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Just got a phone call from Darrell Galloway, chairman of the Paulding County GOP, who said he spent 30 minutes on the phone Thursday night with a push-poller whose apparent target was House Speaker Glenn Richardson.
The phone number was blocked, but the woman said the firm she worked for was in Texas. Galloway (who is no relation, at least on this side of the water) said the poll was designed to appear as if it were testing reaction to a short list of Paulding County political figures who might run against Richardson in a July primary.
Except that none of the names mentioned lives in the speaker’s House district.
When asked who he would support, Galloway replied that he’d vote for Richardson. The poller then asked if his opinion would change if he knew about the speaker’s alleged relationship with a gas company lobbyist, or about his speedy divorce this winter.
The local chairman said it was pretty clear that the calls are targeting Paulding County. A handful of other residents have contacted him as well, reporting similar scripts.
After a stormy legislative session, somebody is putting some money into cutting Richardson’s legs out from under him. Democrats? They probably don’t have the cash to waste.
Let’s hear from you if you’ve received one of these calls — or if you know who might be paying the bill.

It is time that folks wake up and see the true Glen Richardson. His empty promises on tax reform and unwillingness to compromise show a lack of leadership.
I remember a couple of years ago when he and Gov. Purdue came to Northeast Georgia working against Rep. Alan Powell. He turned me against him then and all of his wasted efforts. It is clear that the Republicans have failed the citizens of Georgia and their bitter infighting is taking place at the expense of those that these powerful politicians and political bosses represent.
Maybe it is time that someone campaign on political reform. Wouldn’t it be nice if these politicians would follow through on their promises?

I’d be very interested to know the purported candidate as well - so I can support him! Maybe this person also has friends that will run for Gov and Lt Gov?

Glenn Richardson has done more damage to the Republican party in Georgia than Tom Murphy could have ever done in Georgia. The one thing no one talks about his that his minions have completely ignored their own district in order to grovel at the feet of Richardson. I Hope they are all defeated starting with Bary Fleming who somehow thinks he is qualified for Congress when he doesn’t have the ability to make his own decisions in the Georgia Legislature.
So long Richardson and it would not take a push poll for me to make up my mind about him

this text will be boldedInsurance protection to victims - who’s responsibility is it?
With all the shooting in Chicago and other big cities, there is something all citizens want to know? Are city dwellers wrong for expecting insurance carriers to look at special insurance coverage for criminals who cause injury to victims and damage to property? When do we get back to the weight of responsibility? If taking responsibility for the rising cost of medical insurance is the way to pay the bill why not charge the one who is responsible? Strikers insurance is justifiable and it really makes sense just ot keep the bill paid. We needed it yesterday and boy do we need it now! The question is what would it cost to insure criminal activist? Could this be a step in the right direction to future legislation? Visiting ER at Cook County Hospital in this city can be a very sobering experience. Especially for young adults with not much experience with trauma and pain. Sorry!

The first Republican state government since Reconstruction, and our state’s leaders can’t compromise on the priority issues facing the state? Simply unbelievable.
Speaking as a loyal Republican voter of many years, I think we can safely say several things about Mr. Richardson. First, he isn’t that bright (in that regard, sadly, he isn’t all that different from many of our Republican AND Democrat legislators). Second, he is and arrogant little sod (ditto). Third, he doesn’t have a great depth of understanding of the conservative philosophy of his own party (sadly, there are Republicans who “get it,” but they aren’t in the present leadership). Fourth, he doesn’t have a sound grasp of many of the issues facing state government, let alone how to prioritize them (that is one of the primary functions of a legislative leader, right?). Five, his ego permits him no grasp of how to negotiate with the other leaders of the legislative and executive branches (in fairness, Cagle, Perdue and Johnson share some of this blame, however).
It may not be time to put the Democrats back in charge, but it is certainly time to give other, more capable Republican members of the Georgia Senate and House of Representatives the opportunity to lead. As for the governor and lieutenant governor, Gov. Perdue is a lame duck, and Lt. Gov. Cagle may have hurt himself as much or more than Richardson has in their very public and petty confrontations.
And, I might add, neither Richardson nor senate leader Eric Johnson are deserving of promotion to the governorship. Time for some new talent. Gov. Isakson, anyone?

Glenn Richardson is an embarisment. I live in Alan Powells district. His (Richardsons) comments were so out of line when he came to campaign against Alan. He turned many GOP and Independent voters to Alan when he threatened the chamber of commerce types that they would be cut off from Atlanta if Alan won the race. His exact words were “If Mike wins then I will come here to see you, but if Alan wins you will have to come to Atlanta to see me.”
He is a dangerous man. I look forward to making a contribution to the man or woman who runs against him.

I hope someone does the same thing for Cagle and just about every other Incumbent Republican, I mean Democrat, I mean Republican, I mean Democrats that “converted to Republicans to get the power that goes with the majority party — like they did in White County, like Perdue did, etc. Absolute scum.

This thread is cracking me up! There are plenty of Bubba-rich knuckle-draggin’ Republicans in this state, all perfectly capable of ponying-up some lets-get-Glenn dough. Oh how efective that p** in the wind effort was! That robo-calling dude who was out trying to rabble rouse about John Lewis comes to mind. Although any Bubba with half a brain just starts a blog nowadays; otherwise you just spend tons of Tacky Rich Bubba’s dough getting old ladies at the assisted living facility all confused: “Glenn? What’s that you say? Glenn got dee-vorced? I thought he was already dee-vorced ‘cause when he moved in over next door at Serenity Woods, he didn’t have no wife back then.” “Gas, what’s that you say ‘bout gas? Oh mine’s been real bad since my doctor changed my diabetes medication last month. And Wayne next door, Lordy, they put him on some kinda new heart prescription, and hon, you cain’t hardly step out in the hallways nowadays. It’s THAT bad!” A fool and his money are soon… push-polling a bunch of Georgia rednecks.

A couple of problem with this story: 1) NO telephone poll worker is going to stay on the phone with a subject/participant for 30 minutes. They would be fired for not making enough calls in an hour…The company gets paid by the number of calls it makes. 2) I do not think that Paulding County Republican Chair lives in Glenn’s district so why would he receive a call. 3) What would promote him to call the AJC, if he did not have an agenda that promoted the defeat of Glenn? This fella may want to update his game plan and pepper it with a little more logic before he makes such a “big play”.

Glenn Richardson has our support here in Paulding County because we know that he is looking out for us and will not play the Perdue, Cagle game. This past weekend at the 11th District Republican Convention a resolution was past urge our legislative body to pass tax reform and to Commend Speaker Richardson for taking the Heat and standing up for the Tax Payers of Georgia. IT PAST soundly, so you see tax payer not lonely in Paulding but across the 11th District support the Speaker.

Good grief. Can any of you Paulding County folks spell or write a coherent sentence in the English language? The level of education and intelligence reflected in the purported Paulding County residents’ comments goes a long way to explaining how Glenn Richardson got elected in the first place.

As the current Paulding County Chair, I can assure that I am in the Speakers District and that the questioning lasted over 30 minutes because I explained every one of my answers to her and why it was a poorly worded question. They may not have wanted it to last that long, but it did.

Darrell you do address the fact that you do live in the district, which I will accept at face value. However you grossly ignore the fact that YOU DID call the AJC to “report this telephone conversation. If I drove by your home (or trailer) would I see your clothes line in the front yard filled with your dirty Laundry??? Last time I checked, polite folk usually hung up their underwear at the back of the house. So do still you really think calling the AJC was in the best interest of Glenn?? P.S. you need to get in from the hot sun and rest a wee bit more because a hired hand (telephone caller) would not really care why you think a particular push poll was not statically valid or reliable. Thus they still would not spend 30 minutes with you. Sorry Darrell but it still seems like a coup de’ tat in the making. If I were Glenn, I would follow the writings of a Chinese Philosopher and keep you not close but “even closer”.

I’ve had personal conversations with Richardson, and he’s such a racist bigot. He should be removed from the legislature, or at least the speakership. He’s causing too much division in the GOP by compromising too much with the democrats.

Being a resident of Paulding, Speaker Richardson has always taken my phone calls whenever I’ve had issues that needed to be addressed and I’ve found him to be concerned, hard working and dedicated to the needs of the 19th.

I find it amazing that in today’s date and time that by utilizing bipartisan cooperation in order to get legislation passed- the true measure of the Speaker’s role- commenters here are ready to actually oust Richardson for doing his job! Having dealt with the Speaker on a number of issues over the past 20 years, he is a far cry from a racist bigot as many of his black and hispanic friends would testify. Perhaps it might help to get your facts straight and realize that the people of Georgia aren’t all that concerned over a divorce. In fact, some of us are actually considering electing a divorced man as president.
