Scott on the romantic exit for DOT chairman: ‘Disappointment, bordering on anger’
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Just got off the phone with state Rep. Martin Scott (R-Rossville), who put his legislative career on the line this winter when he bucked House Speaker Glenn Richardson and voted to keep Mike Evans on the state transportation board.
Scott was stripped of his leadership positions on the House Ways and Means Committee — he was chairman of the income tax subcommittee.
And now Evans, the candidate of choice for Gov. Sonny Perdue, has resigned — citing a romance with DOT commissioner Gena Abraham, which he said has blossomed in the last month.
Richardson’s candidate, former House member Stacey Reece, was flawed — he left the Legislature after he encouraged lobbyists to throw him a wedding shower.
But now it turns out that Evans had his own problems. Scott said Evans called him today to offer an apology for his behavior.
Scott described his current state of mind as one of “extreme disappointment, bordering on anger — to say the least.”

I guess this explains Mike Evans cavalier attitude on TV when asked about why the DOT is in such trouble.
You’ve got to have some serious problems to allow your love life to get in the way of your job.
But then, Speaker Richardson would know about that too.

Can’t really blame the good representative, can you? A number of people paid a darn high price for bucking the Speaker and Mikey can’t keep his hormones in check? For goodness sake, he’s 47 y.o.!
BTW, will legislators come to their senses in the off-season and get rid of the Speaker?

Hey Paine
It seems the Speaker was right. Too bad you can’t see through your ignorance to even grant him that.

Wow. With all of the issues facing this department and we learn it’s Love American Style over there at GDOT. Who’s getting screwed? We know the taxpayers are. It seems they aren’t the only ones.

yep, it sure makes those who crossed the speaker look like fools. They lost it all for nothing!
At least Mike E. is getting something out of it, unlike the legislators who backed him. They are stuck with their political demotions and now no road money either.

Didn’t Evans cast the deciding ‘aye’ vote to hire the DOT Commissioner? The vote count was 7-6. Was this romance predetermined?

Maybe in addition to paying qualifying fees, male candidates for office or appointment to high office should submit proof of castration. {Rapists could cite them as mentors and voluntarily do so as well. They could have leniency at trial and maybe released from prison as well, depending on the circumstances of the case) The testes could be displayed in high school cafeterias.
