Wanted: Hired gun to help topple Civil Rights icon

Attention, job-seekers. Blog for Democracy has found a fascinating opportunity on a political employment web site.

It seems as if an “oratorically gifted challenger” with a surging public personality — why, aren’t those the exact words that Markel Hutchins’ mother uses to describe her son? — is looking for an experienced campaign manager to help him unseat a veteran incumbent who has recently come under fire and may — or may not — be U.S. Rep. John Lewis of Atlanta.

No Republicans need apply. Applicants should note that this candidate appears to be highly efficient at delegating. Also, there is the possibility that the position has already been filled.

Hutchins announced his Democratic primary challenge about two weeks after the following want-ad was posted:

GEORGIA (D):Experienced Campaign Manager needed for Atlanta-area congressional district challenger. This unique and historic campaign is expected to pit an older, well-known and veteran incumbent who has recently come under political fire, against a young, charismatic and oratorically-gifted challenger whose public personality has surged in recent times. The campaign manager’s duties: developing and executing a campaign plan, fundraising, organizing/recruiting and managing volunteers, coordinating the mail program, representing the campaign at events, organizing voter contact events, and other administrative tasks. Please send a cover letter, resume and salary requirements as soon as possible to changeinga@gmail.com. Posted: 2/11/08.

So, in this person’s first act in his campaign against an incumbent, he demonstrates that he is so ignorant and disconnected from the political process that he has to run an ad to find a political consultant? What a hoot.

This is ridiculous and pattenly false. Sounds like low tactics from a man running scared! I recently signed on with hundreds of others to volunteer on Markel Hutchins campaign. Not only does he have a seasoned campaign manager who can run rings around the best of the best, he also has a campaign director that was most recently deputy campaign manager for Senator John Edwards 2008 Presidential Campaign and national political director for Howard Dean’s 2000 presidential run.

Speaking of runs, Lewis better put on his running shoes! He’s in for the race of his life!!! History will prove me right! The people of the 5th district will finally get a representative connected and accessible to them! Change is coming! Get ready!

Watch out now!

Hutchins is rolling like that?? Lewis better come correct or he will find himself without a seat!! He should do the smart thing now and retire already!! Gotta go! Gotta go!

Me and my 25+ crew are signing up to volunteer and donate today! We mean to be a part of this movement. We won’t be left behind.

I call this post ‘silly business’. Regardless of whether the hutchins campaign posted the ad or not, the fact is, this young man has an idea whose time has come!

Move over Lewis! We’re ready to see you go!

As a high school senior, I’m confused by Markel Hutchins bio. Now, I think i’ve studied a little government over the years. In addition, my parents and teachers tell me that Harvard is one of the more prestigious universities in the world. So my question is, how is Markel Hutchins on the board of directors at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University? He hasn’t served in any capacity as an elected official on the local, state, or federal level. His bio says he attended Morehouse College but doesn’t say he graduated with a degree in Government. And on top of that he’s has an honory degree from some random school that he doesn’t list. Can someone help me to understand this. I’m posting this on several blogs in hopes of getting an answer.
