Perdue signs city of Dunwoody into existence
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Gov. Sonny Perdue just signed S.B. 82, creating the city of Dunwoody.
As of last week, state Rep. Fran Millar, who pressed the case for the new city over several years, said he wasn’t planning to run as its first mayor.

the Fran and Dan show is gonna cost plenty!
Will it be the Miller City Hall and the Weber Conference Room? oh, and lets not forget to pick out the carpet and upholstery colors! Maybe the Dunwoody Crier will print the color choices for us.

If the citizens of Dunwoody want to tax the crap out of themselves then let them. I find the entire thing so silly. They have good services and they complain about 5% of their taxes going outside of Dunwoody for county services. Well, guess what? That is not going to stop when you become a city.
Their own website says it best…. The City would offer limited services similar to what they get now. Only thing is they will pay more for it.

Great. So be it. Woopdeedo. Maybe Williams and the Georgia Gang ranch hands can return to discussing the rest of the state now.

SB 82 does not “create” a city of dunwoody. It only gives its residents the right to vote for a city if they deem it in their best interest. I, for one, plan to look at the information and make my decision accordingly.

Now the top end Perimeter will be one big long speed trap from the Chattahoochee River to Spaghetti Junction…although you could start it at Bankhead Highway if you count Copp County.
As Will Rogers said, be glad you don’t get all the government you pay for.

As a taxpayer who has been lied to and whose rights have been trampled on by Dekalb county I look forward to having local people make local decisions. Our “rep” lives in Stone mountain and has no clue what is best for Dunwoody.

It’s no wonder Dunwoody wants to be a city, with DeKalb having the most corrupt CEO of any local gov’t in the country. Looks like Vernon will be sharing a jail cell with Bill Campbell and Ron Sailor.

Go Dunwoody! Local control is what it is all about. It is important to have local political leaders who know the community.
The real question is, will this set off a wave of similar city formation in Dekalb. The other cities that have formed recently in Fulton have practically bankrupted Atlanta in lost property tax revenue. Could the same thing be in the future for Decatur?

Why do the commenter’s on this blog suddenly hate Dunwoody? Why do they all assume that when the people have the opportunity to vote they will choose cityhood? Is it that obvious that Dunwoody will be better off as a city than as a part of Vernon Jones’ corruption machine?

If Milton county failed during the Great Depression, what makes you think it should be re-formed now? Even before the Depression, it wasn’t a poor area. Now Campbell County, that was a rural, poor county that had all signs of failure written through and through.

a recent AJC news story reported that people in Dunwoody want a city because Atlanta has fancier baseball fields. huh?
As Mr. City said last night, the new city dwellers will pay lots more for the same or lower level of services. Where is the logic in that?
Ronald Reagan once said the most scary words in the English Language were: “Hi, I’m from the Government and I am here to help!” He later said when asked about that quote, he offered advice to anyone who hears it: “RUN,” he said.
Where, oh where have the true Republicans gone?
At least our city proponents can balance the Dunwoody budget by writing a million dollars in speeding tickets each year.

The tax base in N. Fulton county would provide plenty of revenue for a new Milton county. Things have changed in that area since the 1930’s, Job. The fact is that the citizens and denizens of Fulton Co., south of Sandy Springs, do not want Milton Co. to be re-established. North Fulton Co. is a cash cow.

Ralph Nader smells like my lawnmower but he is the only choice we have. The neocons and liberals our two pea’s in a pod they need each other, they feed of each other (like a young yuppie husband/wife tennis team), they love and hate each other with more passion then a old country-club member playing behind the ladies 9holers, stop the parade send boh paries home.
