Jim Martin for Senate? He’s got a web site, but…
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
He hasn’t formally announced his candidacy, but Democrat Jim Martin has set up this web site, with this caption: “Today, I announced my candidacy for U.S. Senate. Please contribute to help us build the site!”
And it’s dated March 19. That’s today.
We’ve got a call into Martin’s daughter, who’s been acting as spokeswoman, to see if this is real — or an Internet snafu. But there’s no word around the Capitol of any imminent appearance by Martin here or anywhere else. So stay tuned.
In the meantime, Republican incumbent Saxby Chambliss, who has $4.4 million to Martin’s zero, makes an appearance at the state Capitol this afternoon with Gov. Sonny Perdue and every Republican lawmaker he can muster.

This would be GREAT news for Georgia. Not only do we have a water drought in Georgia, but we are suffering from a severe drought in leadership. Jim Martin is a man of integrity who will actually act in the best interests of ALL Georgians, not just the rich ones!! I hope he is indeed running.

Thrilled, if Georgians wanted leadership or integrity then they never would have selected Chambliss in the first place. I agree Tucker, he hasn’t got a chance. This state gets whatever it deserves from Bad Knee Chambliss.

He barely got over 40% in his statewide race for Lt Governor, which at the time was an open seat. Beating a popular incumbent with around a 55% approval rating is going to be alot harder. Like Tucker says, he has no chance. Heck he probably won’t even come out of the primary once Vernon Jones is done with him.

He might be a Bluedog Dem but he’d still support the national Dems who are anti-American, anti-capitalist, anti-white demagogues. Chambliss is no Ronald Reagan but he’s better than any Democrat.

Mike Huckabee proved money isn’t necessarily everything when it comes to winning an election. Maybe there is a chance for Martin, after all. All incumbents are going to have a tough time proving they should get another chance, especially with the economy in the tank.

He got over 40 percent in the Lt Gov race, which is a solid, impressive showing. We would do well to have Jim Martin in Washington. I can’t stand the old Saxby, do-nothing, prejudiced gasbag!

Jim Martin is a sissy britches, definitely not a man’s man. If elected, he would immediately cozy up to Ted Kennedy, Dick Durbin and the other idiot liberals to take OUR money, redistribute OUR money to the leeches of society, undermine national security, ignore Islamofacism, advocate his liberation theology and destroy our Judeo-Christian values. God, Guns and Guts made America great. Jim Martin (and the Dummycrats) are against all three.

It would be nice to have a Vietnam veteran in office during a time of war, instead of a man who thinks troops are disposable assets, like Chambliss. Who knows, the troops might even get the equipment they need, and treatment if they are wounded, if we got rid of Chicken Chambliss.

Jim Martin should be supported by every Georgian. Chambliss has disgraced the office by his thoughtless conservative agenda. He should never have been elected after the shameful way he treated Max Cleland. People should never forget the disrespect Chambless showed toward a true American hero.

I love how you Republicans say things like “another lib who wants to steal your money.”
You are the same people who think it’s just fine that Bush and his corporate buddies on Wall Street think it’s a great idea to bail out speculators like Bear Serns, yet leave middle class Americans to their own devices when trying to figure out where their retirement went.
You are the same people who think keeping the huge oil companies on the corporate welfare roll is a fine idea even as those same companies report massive record profits.
You are the same people who love the idea of giving huge tax breaks to the top 1% of the wealthiest Americans while the middle class is taxed into oblivion.
You are the same people who are gung ho about spending tens of billions of dollars EVERY MONTH on a failed Middle East policy and poorly executed war.
You are the same people who want to continue giving the likes of KBR and Haliburton no-bid, billion dollar Pentagon contracts even though they have a track record of supplying our troops with tainted water and defective helmets and other equipment.
You’ve had your say for the last 8 years and look where it got us.
I want to take my country back from you people. And if voting for Jim Martin is the way to go… more power to him.

Tucker, HOP and Jogger: Seriously, why didn’t you just call ‘em commies , too?
The solution is not on the far right (who’ve been clearly far wrong) nor is it on the far left (they’re still high on the second hand smoke of the 60’s for God’s sake) , but in the center, where most people reside.
Give out’s don’t work, nor does cutting off aid. What works is ensuring that every dime has a purpose, and the purpose should serve the cause of getting people in this country to NOT rely on the government for their well-being. But until we get to that point, you cannot just turn off the faucet and hope they won’t come to your house looking for water. Neither of these candidates get that. Who get’s that?

I am a life long conservative but after several emails back and forth with Senator Chambliss about the price of gas and his “judgement” that the price of gas is high because of supply and demand “thats a load of crap” because there is plenty of oil out there, if you go to a gas staion that is temporarily out of gas it is because that station can’t afford to pay for it up front, not because of any gas shortage.
He flat out refuses to agree that the oil companies are sticking it to us JUST BECAUSE THEY CAN.
Maybe he did not see the the Exxon CEO on tv saying he does not feel bad about how high the price is and he will keep raising the price as long as he can.
Well, here is the issue, all other industries are taking the same stand as simply raising prices AND HUGE PROFITS just becaus ethey can ,JUST LIKE THE OIL COMPANIES.
That is why inflation is way way way up compared to incomes.
That is why is why have to eat off the $1 menu and drink water for lunch at work because I am spending $100 a week for gas!!
I will never vote for a democrat, but i deinitely will never vote for Mr Chambliis again as long as he keeps defending big oil..

While it is considered very cool to attack the incumbents, Saxby Chambliss is amonng the most influential men in America on agriculture matters and the AG community knows it. Martin may be a nice guy but he has no name recognition, no money, and no chance. Frankly, the coalition of minority groups who make up the Democrat party are likely to choose Jones over Martin, anyway.
This is not noreworthy.

RW,
It doesn’t matter if Cleland was there in Vietnam having sex with 11 year old boys. The point of the matter is that he volunteered to go over and fight and serve his country while Chambliss had a knee injury and thus got a deferement.

RW - most soldiers in Vietnam went on beer bust - of course you wouldn’t remember that I bet! The fact this country put him there to begin with and he fought there, then part of this country crucified him for what? What did Max ever do to you or against you? He is a Democrat which got him compared to Osama bin Laden, something the republican party should be horribly ashamed of! For everyone else, tell me exactly what Chambliss has done for this state, much less country!

This is funny the platform Jim is running on as it is counter to the vast majority of Georgians. Now sure you’ll get your typical internet trolls who are coming over from DailyKos who just want to demonize republicans wherever so they attack Chambliss but the truth is that Sen. Chambliss is overwhelmingly popular and supported. Any Democrat would have a hard time, especially Martin who doesn’t share our core beliefs.

Liberals and conservatives alike should stand and applaud the idea of anyone ousting Chambliss, but most especially Jim Martin, a man of courage, integrity and decency.Another great guy, Mike Mears, has already spoken up for him, but Jim has paid his dues across all political lines. The James Carville quote, whether or not really from crypocrat Carville himself or not, is typically shortsighted and inaccurate. Decent concerned Georgia citizens, do your homework and then let Jim Martin have your support!

Reading these comments remind me of why we so desperately need a change in politics. The culture of politics has become so stark, so mean, so mindless. People are trashing this guy as if he kidnapped their child or something, as if they know him personally. Why bash him? Why not just say I disagree with his politics? Or something along those lines? Better yet, why not just wait and see what the man will propose…and when you do, REALLY listen to him. Don’t just bash him because he has an “R” or “D” by his name. Geez. George Washington warned this country at its inception how dangerous political parties would be…and he has been proven sooo right. Barack Obama, whatever your views of him, at least offers a platform to look past political party and look at SUBSTANCE. Stop the unnecessary hate people!

Jim is the guy who ran for leutenant gov against Casey Cagle. If he had won we would probably be able to buy beer on Sundays by now and we would also have a realistic comprehensive traffic plan for this state. Jim would have been great in that position. Instead we have a neocon wacko religious nutjob who insists on controling the legislature agenda in such a way that they can only spend their time on useless crap that only benefits a few of their cronies. Jim would have been better in that position and he would be great in Saxby’s position.

It’ll be interesting to see this race play out. As a Republican, I’d like to support Chambliss based on platform. However, if he runs another negative attack campaign against a Vietnam Veteran (Jim Martin) I’m just going to have to vote against him on principle. I’ve got my own integrity to think about, even if those representing us sometimes don’t seem to care

LR,
I applaud you sincerely for not only having but for utilizing your brain. It is refreshing to see someone from a party opposite from my own look at a candidate, look at what he has done and what he has said and then make an educated decision as to their vote. I am tired of dems and repubs alike voting only along party lines. I really appreciate your willingness to change your vote for Saxby because of his actions in his previous campaign. Thanks for an original comment and not one that has been recycled and used time and again (RW-who apparently lives on these political insider blogs! Nice use of time).
