Kingston on Obama: Despite the speech, the Democrat’s former pastor ‘disturbs’ voters
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
On the same day that Barack Obama gave his speech on race in Philadelphia, who should visit the state Capitol on Tuesday but U.S. Rep. Jack Kingston, the Savannah Republican who — in the last few weeks — has made a small career of talking about Obama’s refusal to wear an American flag lapel pin.
Kingston, of course, didn’t have a flag pin on his suit.
The congressman has taken some heat for his televised shots at Obama, and we asked if he considered them a mistake. Clearly, Kingston did not.
“My view is as long as the left, the Obama people, are attacking me about Obama not wearing a lapel pin, I think they’re choosing the debate topic — and we’re solid on that all day long,” Kingston said. “People in my district know that I will and have worn American flag lapel buttons. They did not know that Obama refuses to.”
Kingston said he didn’t watch Obama deliver his address on race — but nonetheless was willing to predict a result.
“It could have the impact that [Republican Mitt] Romney’s speech had on being a Mormon — that it was great for those who already support Obama,” Kingston said. “But you still have a long relationship with Jeremiah Wright and a guy who’s very divisive. And it disturbs people.”
He continued: “I think that the think that’s happened with Obama is that the primary — up until Ohio — has been a powderpuff contest, where you just couldn’t attack him. And now that boundary’s been broken — people have to answer questions. He’s answering. But you were forbidden to ask questions until about a month ago.”

Naturally, a Georgia Republican is going to have an opinion on a speech he didn’t watch! Why should he stop talking about things he knows nothing about now?

He didn’t take the time to listen to the speech. Those who were never considering to vote for Obama probably would not have a change of heart. THose who are on the fence have to be encouraged by Obama’s candor, demeanor, honesty and intellect. I have new found confidence in Obama. He is undoubtedly a man of extremely high character.

I just dont understand how this so-called “patriot” who claim to be a christian can continously speak ill of a man. The good book says “thou shall bear no false witness against your neighbor”. No their Bible does not have that. They pick and choose what to pick from the Bible.

He was of such high character that he waited until the pastor became a major liability before distancing himself. Right. Unfortunately, Kingston has it correctly. Even if Obama is the dem nominee, the repugs are going to eat him alive for this, the stupid lapel issue and the comments made by Michelle Obama.

Kingston, like Hannity, Lumbaugh and similar ilk, profits imensely from ignorance and discord and therefore have a vested interest festering this matter. As a matter of fact, he is banking on another term through the use of this deflection strategy, i.e.,the more he bashes Obama the less the people in his distrct will notice his ineffectiveness in a Democratically controlled Congress.
Kingston has been a strong supporter of President Bush, who we all know is responsible for this current bad state of affairs afflicting our nation. The people in that District may be ignorant but they sure are not stupid. Ergo, that District is in for a change, for the better, this election year.

Obama’s speech was too long. He didnt’ have to address what his former pastor said.
Obama should have simply told Americans how HE feels about America. He’s not responsible for anyone else’s opinion, and nobody thinks he should be except the vestige of the bush base and they dont count.
Obama landslide in november, and nothing can stop it.

I loving reading the tolerant, diverse ranting of the libs. They really do want peace and harmony. Actually, they seem to be a little on edge. It must be the “Civil War” in their party that has them so upset. You see, they were convinced that this was their election. Nothing could stop them. But they didn’t count on Hillary and her quest for power. Now they are beginning to realize that a win in November is no longer a sure thing. And they only have themselves to blame.
This bit of truth will upset them, verily. I will be attacked, but I know and they know that I am blogging the truth. Peace, libs. Peace.

Although the media always airs the most inflammatory comments of anyone they are trying to discredit, I must have missed something in the sound bites from Obama’s former pastor. Pastor Wright expressed the thoughts of many black Americans about the history of racism in this county. He never said that whites are inferior or less worthy of God’s love (something we still see directly and indirectly stated from whites about blacks in blogs such as this one). So, now when white America has to listen to a black person speak the truth about our country’s history, they proclaim the pastor a bigot. Hhhmmph…Who hung black people from trees on a mere whim, with no repercusions? Who kept little black kids from going to schools that had books? Who sicced dogs on black Americans and blasted them with high pressure water hoses when they tried to protest the injustice? Who you say…white people you say? Really? And they did these things because they felt blacks were less than whites and unworthy of the same rights - not because blacks had done something wrong, right? So, now tell me again what the pastor said that was racist… Inflammatory, yes - racist, NOT!!!! At least Obama didn’t totally back down this time.

And further more…
Why is Obama supposed to take responsibility for Pastor Wright’s views just because he attended the man’s church and was married by him? How would the average white person feel if they had to bear responsibility for something other white people said that might not be their personal beliefs? This is yet another thing that black people deal with every day for which white people have no frame of reference. A black man is on the news for shooting a pretty blond white girl (or anybody for that matter) and whites are looking at blacks cross-eyed for months. A white man is on the news for shooting/blowing up/eating a black person (or anybody for that matter) and nobody blinks when they pass a white person on the street. How fair is that crap?

Modern contract law has vestiges of slavery’s rule of law. The party of the first part gets all the money. The party of the second part gets his own sweat. The party of the first part gets the police, the courts, the assembly, and the license to kill. The party of the second part inherits the wind.

It’s fun to watch the far right in a panic over Obama, throwing everything they can think of at him and hoping something sticks. It shows how scared they are.
They KNOW their defeat this November is inevitable… and if Kingston wants to make a “career” out of irrelevant trivia, well they’re his 15 minutes to blow. What a sad little loser.

The problem for Obama, who campaigns on a message of racial reconciliation, is that the “mentor” whose church he joined and has generously supported is a disciple not of [Dr. Martin Luther] King but of James Cone, founder of a “black liberation” theology that teaches its adherents to “accept only the love of God which participates in the destruction of the white enemy.” Jeff Jacoby, The Boston Globe, March 19, 2008.

Churchill and Demo…kkk or whatever read like the types of folks bent on souring this country. The easy Fox News (and CNN for that matter) induced split-screen, for and against, inane and ultimately irrelevant exploration of issues is what keeps you types stuck in your compartmentalized and limited views. Conservative or Liberal? Black or White? Choose one or die. Give me a break. Obama’s speech is one of the most important ever given in our nation’s history; squarely trained on an issue polluting our society. Not realizing that and thus ignoring a message as important, as necessary as what this man tried to elocute would be a mistake exposing your conservative ideals as little more than partisan fandom devoid of any meaning aside from a love of red and pachyderms. B*******.

The speech was great. But why did he sit in that church for 20 years? Even the Oprah had the sense to leave that hate spewing den of Anti-Americanism. He gave the speech to try to save his political rear end. If he truly wanted to put the past behind us he could have started with himself and left that church. But he is still in the race and so is Hillary. That is good news to me. Peace.

Society is not working through the race issue. The libs are. The same libs that support affirmative action, unless the minority threatens them (a la Hillary). I do take glee in the battle on the left. It is time for African Americans to shrug off the yoke of their white masters and leave the Democrat Plantation. I think you are the one ticking the libs off tonight, 007. Fun isn’t it! They will not address what is going on in their party. A: Because they have no explanation for it. B: Because they are in denial.
You see, they cannot blame all this racism/sexism infighting on Bush or “neocons”. It is coming from them and their candidates. This is truly monumental. The longer this “Civil War” in the Democrat party continues, the better our prospects for victory in November. If they lose in November it will be because they couldn’t stop the fighting. This may be a better election cycle than I first thought. Peace.

Copyleft, I read the speech and Obama’s quasi denouncement of the Wrong Rev. Wright left me scratching my head. Since he was a member of the church, I assume that he agreed with the views of that church. You can’t pick your parents, uncles, or aunts, but you sure can pick your church and mentors. As far as Obama’s views…he’s a lib and that’s O.K., but I do not have to support him. He also has a thin public record and I think that it is only to fair to examine the relationships that he says are important to him. He has been associated with that church for 20 years. I think it is fair game.
