Another B-grade plot line: ‘He must join us. He can’t resist us. He must become one with us’

Now that John Lewis has caved and joined their family, Barack Obama supporters are casting about for their next superdelegate victim from Georgia.

It looks like it might be state Labor Commissioner Michael Thurmond, vice-chairman of the state Democratic party. Jane Kidd, chairman of the Democratic party, has already joined the Obama team.

But Thurmond is different. Like Lewis, Thurmond is African-American.

An e-mail making the rounds notes that Thurmond “continues to endorse [Hillary] Clinton even after the voters of this great state, who elected him, voted overwhelmingly for Obama on Super Tuesday. This e-mail campaign is to ask Commissioner Thurmond to change his support to Obama, and support the people of this state, who voted for him….

“We understand his loyalty to the Clinton’s, but we are sure his loyalty lies more with the voters … who elected him to office,” the letter says.

The message helpfully includes Thurmond’s office number and e-mail address.

“Bill’s Beard,” whether doormat or dy*e, is part of the “System” which has turned a blind/complicit eye to Bush/Cheney’s committing 9-11.

Thurmond has done a good job for Georgia in the past but should never serve in office again if he continues to support Rockefeller-front Hillary Clinton. Obama had the strength of character to oppose the patently criminal Bush run-up to Iraq false war, and is a fulfillment of America’s Promise.

How is it that the Chair of the State Party can endorse in a contested Primary?

Michael Thurmond is a joke. He should have ran for Senate, but is too chicken to leave his cushy, cushy high paying Labor Commish gig. If ya wanna be a leader Mike, ya gotta put it on the line once in a while.

The argument that super delegates should vote the same as their state or congressional district reflects a basic lack of understanding of the role of the super delegate. If they are going to just rubber stamp the primary vote, then why have the super delegates at all? The net effect would be zero. The super delegates, whether you agree with this or not, were never intended to just “go along” with everyone else. In fact, the entire purpose of creating the super delegates was so that people who are more actively involved in the political process, and therefore may have a better appreciation for the issues facing the nation, would have a greater say than the rest of us. The party nominating process is not the same as a general election. It is an intra-party process and each party can conduct it however they want. There is no constitutional requirement for “one man, one vote” for the parties. If you don’t like it, then I’d suggest getting involved with the party and trying to change it from within. But for now, this is the system we have to work with.

I think my statement that the “net effect would be zero” is not correct. But my general point on the role of super delegates stands.

The democrat party set up the super delegate deal after the McGovern fiasco. It was instituted solely to over rule their voters. Libs have been supporting disenfranchisement for decades.

For what it is worth, I say get rid of the super delegates and let the libs McGovernize themselves again. Peace.

Everyone wants to weigh in on something they wanted nothing to do with six months ago. If you want to change a process you have to get involved with the process. Let’s see anyone that is b*** now join, get involved and change the process from within the Democratic Party.

I don’t believe the Obama supporters are really interested in going after Michael Thurmond. Why demand anything from him other than continue doing the great job of putting people back to work. As I understand it, the Georgia Labor Department has been drastically improved under his leadership. I am an Obama supporter, but this harassing of individuals for the sake of a candidate running for office has me confused.

If you want to stick to the issues—when has Barack Obama got anyone a job in Georgia??

Oh how clueless the Dems are even at their own game. Thurmond has no reason to be forced to go with what the state decides. THAT is the point of the pledged delegates that have already been dished out. These Superdelegates can go how they feel personally. It’s funny to see Dems screwing up their own rules by telling Thurmond he should go the way of the state. If this is the way it should be then do away with Superdelegates completely. What these people are asking for is completely counter to the whole concept. Lewis was a wimp for caving in. He should have stuck to his pricniples and remained with the candidate he felt was best representing the party - what the superdelegate is supposed to do. Come on Dems, get a clue. Better yet, don’t. Keep fighting this out and make your party implode. We already see one of your ‘moral and principled’ leaders caught with his pants down - thank you Mr. Spitzer. It will be humorous when Obama stubles and the whole image of him being a messiah will implode as well.

What happens if the Obama supporters in Macon and Tifton try this on Rep. Jim Marshall-who actually has a Dem. opponent in July. What if they start a campaign to get people who voted for Obama to vote for Robert Nowak or draft C. Jack Ellis.

Then the Republican voters take the Dem ballot to secure an easier opponent for Goddard.

The far left has already taken down Rep. Albert Wynn in Maryland. Getting the most conservative Dem Marshall would be fun to them.

This is going to get mighty interesting.

Please draft C. Jack Ellis a.k.a Ibrahim Monsoor Ellis. Please see that Monsoor gets on the ballot for the general. We could turn a blue district red.
