Says Superdelegate Carter: ‘We’ll try to hold the party together’

The Albany Herald reports today that Democratic superdelegate Jimmy Carter is keeping mum when it comes to whether he’ll cast his vote for Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama.

The former U.S. president said he has his favorite, but declined to make it public during Presidential Day festivities in Plains. (Remember that Carter appeared at a John Edwards event last year.)

But Carter seems to think that the 790 superdelegates, who will make up about one-fifth of the votes at the Democratic National Convention, will make sure the final tally is decisive enough to avoid any split.

“One of the main candidates, either Clinton or Obama, will be a big majority,” Carter said. “We’ll try to hold the party together.”

Remember that old band-aids (like Carter) quickly fall off new wounds.

If the Demagogue Party needs the likes of Carter to hold it together, God help them - they are really in trouble.

“Divide and Conquer” is the tactic currently being used by the Repugnicans in power and their corporate media enablers, including our hosts here. Lest we forget, we started out this time around with numerous fine candidates of which we can be proud.

They want us at each other’s throats. That’s their best chance. Let’s not give it to them. UNITE and stand together with whomever wins the nomination, and in the time until that happens, and we can win; we WILL win. Unity is a 2-way street! True that.

Proud Georgia Dem, Republicans to blame? You morons are doing it to yourselves. The dems may win in November but come next year you will be hearing impeachment bells. Once Osama has allowed our enemies to set off a nuke you will never see another dem in the white house. Dems can not be trusted on nation security.

Proud Georgia Dem, I respect your sentiments, and agree that your assessment is the correct one for the Dems heading into the convention.

However, remember that the sole overriding platform for the Dems has been, simply, to be “anti” whatever the Reps are “fer.” There is no consistent goal of the party other than to abandon Iraq without letting door hit our collective behinds on the way out.

Otherwise, messianic exhortations for “hope” and “change” are wonderful for getting everyone excited, but the details become rather devilish when it comes time to hash them out.

Accordingly, I expect the proverbial “goat rodeo” once the fervent “hopers and changers” congregate for their convention, and find they can’t even agree on a candidate, much less a platform (beyond “hope” and “change,” that is). Women will battle blacks who will battle environmentalists who will battle gay rights activists who will battle peaceniks who will battle the PETA-ists who will battle the unionists … . and low and behold, no consensus will prevail.

So sorry.

Wishful thinking, folks. While two eminently well-qualified candidates debate ideas and issues, the Republican faithful are trying to talk themselves into backing someone they hate.

And the DEMS are the ones in trouble? Hahahahahaha.

Tom - I agree. Mr. Carter was relative at one time and I still respect his dignity, honesty, and dedication. I wish today’s Democraps could be more like him - I might actually consider voting for one if they were. Hillary or Obama could never achieve the level of respect or relevance that Mr. Carter had and it would truly be disastrous if the unthinking people elect one of them.

Thanks, y’all, for illustrating by example today what we do not wish to become. This “the truth” guy is hoping for an nuke to land on us. Nice patriotism, there, that makes you prefer death and destruction in the name of being “right” to the possibility that some poor kids might actually get medical treatment they need. Keep talking; you’re helping us more than you know!

Superdelegates should not be influenced by the vote in the primaries. The people had their say when they voted. We don’t need the superdelegates if they voted along constituent lines.

Proud Georgia Dem, Wise up. Obama has already said that he is going to bring the military home and end ALL wars. In plain English, that means we will be fighting here. He doesn’t want to deal with problems like this. Your precious Jimmy is the reason that we are about to be at war with Iran. This man did nothing and that is how Reagan destroyed him in 80. Where did I say that I am hoping for a nuke? It’s idiots like you that react to things without actually reading what I said. You are the reason that the democrats will not regain power in Georgia. Sane people distrust democrats because democrats can not be trusted with anything. Look at slick willy. He has no idea what his legacy is other than getting a bj. Obama has not done anything as a person. The media has built this guy up because he’s black. That’s all. You guys are hopeless.

Fact is, Jimmy is as big of an embarrassment as Cynthia Mckinny. Jimmy was the biggest disaster of a president that we’ve had in the last 35 years. Bill Clinton is out there getting in all kinds of trouble and his wife is a complete buffoon. Obama has zero substance. Everything will be perfect if Obama is elected! I could go on and on about how the democrat party has failed on every issue. If the GOP would get back to conservatism we would never have another democrat in the white house.

Carter? Carter, probably the wordt president of the 20th century, to hold it together. I wonder what Iran would be now if he had the bullocks to stand up to them. remember the gas shortages? Anyone who was an adult from carters presidency will remember how he screwed up the country. His recent anti semitic stands only indicate that maybe he should sit back on his rocking chair and count peanuts.

“The truth,” please wipe your chin. You’re embarrasing yourself. America is tired of your kind, and we’re aware that you’ll keep up your sleazoid smear tactics in the absence of anything meaningful or pertinent to say. Why don’t you write to your hero, Rush the oxy-popper, and ask if he’ll take you on his next Viagra “with the boys” trips to a third-world country specializing in child prostitution. You’re going to need a vacation after November.

Alan from Atl, Proud Democrat was talking to me. Democrats resort to name calling when they can’t back up facts or answer questions. It’s the only thing that they are good at. Notice how he he went into bringing up Rush. There was nothing in the conversation about Rush. Fact is, democrats are in love with communism. The other day, an Obama staff member was caught with a Cuban Che flag in her office. They also hate America and blame the worlds problems on America. Also, look at Berkley,CA where Code Pink is protesting the Marines and calling them killers. That’s how democrats support their country. Send them to war and spit on them when they come home.

I think Jimmy Carter is probably one of the greatest humanitarians of our lifetime. What have you done that would match Jimmy’s Carters dedication to end diseases in the world; and also to bring about democracy in other countries. Or who among you at his age could go build houses with Habitat for Humanity. Tell me - any offers? His job(career) was a nuclear scientist? do you have that on your resume. Give him some lack and respect, please….. hasn’t your Mom taught you anything about respecting our elders. And also!!! Bill Clinton had a plus not a deficient -debt when he left the White House - how about our present pres… debt or plus-money! just thinking outloud. mahs…… and if other candidates such as Edwards had gotten as much publicity by networks as Obama - he might have done better as well!!!!

When I think of Jimmy Carter, I think of the shame that he brought on America through his weak and ineffectual leadership as President. He groveled, whined, clutched his Mr. Rogers sweater around him and told us we were the problem because of our malaise. Carter was the worst president of the century…utterly unfit for the challenges of his time. In the end, Carter’s failures were failures of character. Since being President, the failures of character have only continued. Mr. Carter has the unique claim of failing as a President and an ex President. What a shame that this weak, whining man who is so filled with loathing for his country is the “protector” of the Democratic Party. Carter is a reminder that success comes from who you are, not what you know. Presidents must govern, wisely not just win an election.

As a Senior Advisor of the CPD, he still refuses to work for open Presidential debates which violates our voting CIVIL RIGHTS!

Let’s see.. with all of these hate e-mails I really do wonder if it has ever been possible that we have been a UNITED STATES. Some arguments can be made that Jimmy Carter’s Presidency was the worst in history. Many arguments can be made that the current man in that office has bungled it worse than Chevy Chase. You can believe that Carters’ 22% interest is better than the current 31% interest if you want. Or blame Carter for the Iran we now have in power, and you’d be wrong again. You are giving an American President credit for another country’s internal struggles. I don’t recall Carter setting-up the Shah of Iran in power. I also don’t remember Carter leaving America in the worst deficit in the world’s history. Or dividing America so much that polarizing became a common term. I do remember the handshake of Menachem Begin, Anwar Sadat and Jimmy Carter. Democrats, Republicans or Independents, remember more people are not registered to vote in America than people who are registered. We fight with ourselves and spout disagreement because we can. Disagreeing with someone’s opinion is one thing, but this type of diviseness is exactly what terrorism and fear leads to, learn from the mistakes America has made in the past seven years and America will be so much better for it. Hope and Change are only words. And you can think that or believe that something better will happen. I choose to believe that we are Americans. Not capitalists, warmongers or dividers. We can build a better America or wallow in fear and hate. Some of us want to see a better America. When we smile and ask if we can help. That’s what Americans do. The Americans that care. Join us and stop the fighting, back-stabbing and pettiness. I’m not a school teacher, but sometimes it seems that we could all learn something from them.

If a dem is elected the US will start having regression instead of recession as we have had the past 8 years.
