With 24 hours to go, a Huckabee message to Romney

In the final 24 hours of the Georgia presidential primary, it’s notable that Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee continues to take aim at Mitt Romney — not John McCain.

He’s decided it’s easier to pry votes away from Romney than from the candidate who’s getting more and more support from the GOP establishment.

Huckabee doesn’t have the resources of the Romney campaign. But he set up an e-mail tree to spread a video addressed to his supporters, made during his Sunday visit to Macon.

The video employs what’s become his trademark sense of humor:

“Don’t let anyone who’s going to vote for us stay home. And if there’s somebody you know who’s not going to vote for us, don’t let them out of their house,” Huckabee says. “You let the air out of their tires and keep them from getting out. Tell them the primary’s been moved to March. But don’t let them near a voting booth until after Tuesday.”

But all of Huckabee’s invective is saved for Romney:

“Mr. Romney has spent about $100 million to have basically the same number of delegates that I have, and I’ve spent about $7 million. You know with the business background he has you’d think at this point he’d come to the conclusion that he’s not selling his soap very well….

“I’ve got a suggestion, Mr. Romney. Rather than me drop out, why don’t you give it up and go back to Boston?”

That’s a rather Southern thing to say, if you think about it. And we’re sure Huckabee has.

Huckabee is a sore loser and simply trying to get attention. Gee, what strong Christian characteristics he is displaying by telling people to let the air out of tires and tell a lie that the primary was moved. That Arkansas humor is just too much for me. Hey Mikey - how about you go back to Arkansas where someone might actually think you have credibility. Stop stumping for McCain.

A vote for Huckabee is vote for McCain! I am not sure why Huckabee would support McCain; let us not forget why McCain lost the nomination the first time around. Campaigning in 2000, he famously described Christians as “agents of intolerance” and this is why he lost the GOP nomination. He has been against more conservative principles than any other senator out there from tax cuts, to immigration, to the marriage amendment, campaign finance reform, global warming tax, all the way to opposing republican attempt to confirm conservative judges. Go for Romney the conservative choice!

China is an emerging global superpower and military peer, and thus a very real potential threat to United States vital National interests. Bain Capital is Romney’s old flag ship company that he touts as evidence of his managerial and executive ability. Bain is the major facilitator of the China - 3 M deal. As Congressman Hunter, Ranking House Armed Services Committee Member has repeatedly emphasized, the majority of venture capital firms like Bain will not even talk with a company until they answer the question “when are you moving your production to China”.

Governor Huckabee received Congressman Hunter’s endorsement because he recognizes that a sound economic foundation sustaining a prosperous and growing middle class is imperative for America’s National Security.

America definitely won’t make it with business practices like those of the Bain Capital Corporation. Governor Romney has failed to intervene with Bain to drop its strategic partnership with Chinese defense contractor Huawei Technologies, in a bid to buy U.S. defense contractor 3Com. Actions like this endanger American National Security and Duncan Hunter made it clear that anyone who condones these types of business practices is unfit to be Commander-in-Chief.

Joke or no joke, Huckabee has the audacity to accuse Romney of “Votor Suppression”!!!! He’s talking about getting people to stay home from voting by lying and sabotage. Huckabee is a joke. He’s only staying in to spoil Romney. I hate Huckabee, he’s a worm of the lowest kind.

Huck needs to bow out now. I am a born again christian and we are not electing a preacher. I disagree with McCain on just about every issue except national security and I strongly support Mitt. Huckabee has taken pages from Clinton with how to win votes. Remember what we got with Jimmy Carter? An embarrassment that Ronald Reagan had to clean up.

Hey, Conservative, the saddest part about that 200 quote by McCain is how absolutely correct it was then, and still is today. None other than Ralph Reed really exposed how underhanded some so-called “Christians” can be. Way too many are jumping on the “Christian” bandwagon who are no more Christian than the late Mrs. O’Hair.

Don’t get me wrong, I believe in Christ, and live by His teachings.

Too often, young Donalbain’s warning of daggers in mens smiles rings true with those who would wear the badge of Christianity to win a vote.

And, as GW Bush has proven, the false badge of Conservatism has been equally abused for personal gain.

Why does one need to ‘bow out’? What happened to actually giving credit to people for staying in and finishing what they started? And people are so easily offended now a days that you can’t even joke around anymore.

And by the way, most of the questions raised to Huckabee are almost always in regards to his ‘faith’. I don’t see the other candidates getting those questions ALL the time. When quoting Huckabee or making note of him in the media, his name is always prefaced with, a southern Baptist preacher..why not approach everyone in that manner if you want to be politically correct and all????

Once again, Hucakabee shows his true Christian background by attacking a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Mormon)!! One can be assured that all of the money that backs Romney was not obtained from a congregation—-it was earned by hard work and honest principles in the field of play(the business world)!!!!!

Wow, is there an election “conspiracy” between the talk show hosts? They say no way! But I say what are the odds that 99 out of 100 talk you hosts are for Romney? Are they as free thinking conservatives as they claim? I think not, just more elites talking to the little people.

We need to start a real conservative party where talk show hosts and lobbyists are not welcome. The media in the US is as powerful as many dictatorships around the world.

Strange that Huckabee would acuse Romney of flip flopping. At one time Huckabee said he received a calling from God to minister to the people hence the self proclaimed title of “ordained minister” (I’d be curious to know who ordained him) Now he’s a politician. Where did that come from? That is the ultimate “flip flop.”

Dan Campbell is on Huckabee’s payroll. Any article that hits the newswire about Huckabee or Romney that allows comments has a comment from “Dan Campbell”. Huckabee pays this guy along with others to do this. You’ll also notice that in some posts Dan Campbell claims to be a Florida Voter and on other posts he claims to be a Georgia Voter, etc. It’s nice to see honesty in politics “Dan Campbell”. Hopefully the Huckster is paying you enough.

The Base is Beginning to Rally

In addition to many high profile talk show conservatives, many evangelical leaders are also rallying for Mitt and realizing that he is the best face to represent the party. Here are a few great examples of their thinking:

Reverend Rob Shenck: “After careful and prayerful consideration, I have concluded that an evangelical vote for Mike Huckabee is a vote for John McCain, and a vote for John McCain will be a disaster for this country. Let me explain. It’s clear to me and many others that Mike Huckabee is not broadening his appeal enough to win the primary.”

John Schroeder of Article 6 Blog: “The conservative voice in the Republican party is at stake - everybody agrees on that, and Evangelicals are the energy, motivator, and banner carrier for that voice. Conservatives lose and Evangelicals are on the bench, if they are in the stadium at all. In other words, we stand on the precipice I feared from the beginning. The current electoral calculus is such that a vote for Mitt Romney is the only way to preserve that voice.”

Rev. Jesse Lee Peterson: “Love of God, family and country are the most important values in my life. All are under attack in America as never before. I believe that Governor Romney, though not without flaws in his record, is a decent, highly capable man who believes in these same values.”

I know Mike Huckabee has little formal education even he ought to realize that Romney does not have “basically the same number of delegates that I have”.

McCain has 97 delegates Romney has 92 delegates Huckabee has 29 delegates

McCain has 3 wins out of 8 contests so far Romney has 4 wins out of 8 contests so far Huckabee has 1 win out of 8 contests so far

McCain has 2 second place finishes Romney has 3 second place finishes Huckabee has 1 second place finish

The fact is that it is not even close between Romney and Huckabee but it is close between Romney and McCain. Effectively it is a two-person race; only Romney has a chance of beating McCain and John McCain has been in Washington for 25 years and is part of the problem. We need new leadership.

Romney has the midas touch with everything he has been involved with and our Nation’s government needs a major overhaul. Please support Romney. He is a brilliant guy who would bring the kind of change to Washington that is so desperately needed.

Despite what Huckabee says, the numbers just don’t add up for him.

Incorrect information. Check RealClearPolitics website - McCain has 93 delegates, Romney 77 and Huckabee 40. It’s not over by a mile!

Huckabee had been number 2 nationally for a long time and leading the Southern states until Romney/THompson smear campaign spread untruths and distortions about Gov. Huckabee - Huckabee lost South Carolina to McCain 33% to 30%. THompson had 15% - yet campaigned eventhough he had absolutely no chance at winning!

Romney hasn’t been that close to McCain. Romney’s campaign is all smoke&mirrors. He advocated for gays while running for gov of MA and a host of other liberal issues until he decided to run for president. Gov Huckabee has governed for over 10 years - more executive experience than ANYONE in the race - and he did a good job at it.

Mainstream media doesn’t care to let the voter know all of these things, since the big money is on romney and mccain.

Think about it.

As is my duty to the resurrected Lord, I am here to tell you that the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe the gospel. The Lord of Lords, Jesus Christ of Nazareth, was crucified and died for YOUR sins (not his own, because he was, is, and always shall be sinless), and he was raised from the dead on the third day.

If you believe and are baptized, you will be saved. If you do not believe the gospel, you will be condemned.

The kingdom of heaven is at hand. Jesus does not condemn you, but go, and sin no more.

Huckabee seems like a good enough guy (until recently when he has been lashing out against Romney). I have nothing against Huckabee’s character; we all make mistakes. I do, however, disagree with the people who think that he still has a chance to win. He has no money and he has lost the momentum. As shallow as that seems, candidates unfortunately need money to win. It is down to McCain and Romney, who will you vote for?

Can’t anyone take a joke. Huckabee was just kidding. Anyway, I know that many of you Southerners are recieving phone calls from Romney saying that “It’s a two person race”. Isn’t that lying and voter supression. I’m from Iowa, and I looked at all the candidates up close. I met every one. Huckabee is the only sincere candidate and that is why he won Iowa. He connected to us. Romney’s arrogant attitude and “contrast” ads didn’t fool us. We know Romney first hand. He flip-flopped on every issue. What threw me off his bandwagon was that he supported a 50$ abortion on his health care plan in Mass. How is that being socially conservative. By the way, I heard that joke about letting people’s airs out of tires if they don’t vote for me in Iowa in person. He laughed about it and then turned serious and said, “No, I encourage you to vote, even if it isn’t for me because this is a democracy.”

It’s my guess that if Mike H. wasn’t a former preacher, then he’d be in a much better position to claim the nomination.

Think about it. He’s damned if he does, damned if he don’t. If he gets fired up as a result of Romney’s attacks, he’s showing “poor christian manners,” if he sits idle and takes it like the good, meek christian, then he’s tarnished by the pastors-don’t-make-good-presidents label.

Unlike some of the others here, the fact that he’s a former Baptist preacher doesn’t get my panties all bunched up. And I’m not even one of those self-described evangelicals or born-agains. I just think he makes sense and his stance on issues most closely resembles mine.

Romney is a social liberal who has been (quite recently) pro-abortion, pro-gay rights, and anti-gun. He dismantles companies, ships jobs to China and has received huge amounts of money from Mormons all across the West. The Mormon vote won him the elections in Nevada and Wyoming and his father won him the vote in Mich. His only other win is in Maine. He is a Northeastern Gov. but isn’t going to win any other Northeastern state besides Mass. and he can’t get anyone there, either conservative or liberal, to endorse him.

WAKE UP.. Romney can’t be elected. He can’t deliver the Northeast, Mid-atlantic, or Pacific states. His Mormon backing and social liberalism puts the South and Midwest at risk in the general election for the first time in decades (in the same way that no baptist preacher is going to get the nod from California - it’s not bigotry - that’s just how it is). Romney would get killed in the general election! and he will give the DEMS a bigger margin in both houses or Congress.

Michael Litzau,

It’s not Romney’s money that is causing Huckabee to loose support. It is Huckabee’s actions. He claims to be a Christian leader but then lies on national television and acts as a wingman for McCain.

Romney has displayed nothing but class in this election. The worst thing he did to Huck was run ads highlighting his record on taxes which is fair game. No politician should fear their own record. He never attacked him personally or lied in any way.

Huck, however knowingly lied when he said Romney’s company owned Clear Channel and that Romney was in favor of timetables.

Huckabee is trying to help McCain win the nomination so that he can get the VP slot but McCain called Christian leaders “Agents of Intolerance” so I am perplexed how he rationalizes that.

Huckabee is selling out his soul to win. Huck needs to read Mark 8:36 again. It says: “For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul.”

I would NEVER vote for Romney. He’s too slick. Too schmarmy-corporate. He’s the type that’ll rob you blind with a smile on his face. And you guys are insane if you think he can win the general election.

McCain is too liberal for me. And his communication skills make me cringe sometimes.

Huckabee at least has a sense of humor, has the most conservative record, and is a gifted speaker. But there’s no chance for him to win.

Basically, there’s no good candidate.

The Mormon card. Really, Desert Pirate? How democrat of you. They play those divisive cards, not our side. Hukaphony started this “Mormon” issue. In part, because he is politician from Arkansas, and because he was trying to deflect attention from his own dismal, liberal record as Gov.

Actually, a vote for Huckabee is a vote for Hillary.

As time goes on, it is more and more obvious that Mitt Romney is the only Republican candidate that has the ability to defeat the Hillary/Obama ticket. The democrats know this - just look at the press releases from the Democratic National Committee attacking Romney. The liberal press has been supporting McCain in order to get Romney out of the picture. If the are successful, they will turn on McCain, and he will lose in the general election.

As far as Huckabee is concerned, his continued involvement is clearly for the purpose of pandering to McCain by taking votes from Romney. Apparently Huckabee is hoping for a vp nod for his efforts. More that a little “self interest” in Huckabee’s not so tacit support of McCain.

Brett -

Nevada and Wyoming are conservative states - that’s why Romney won them. Who did they vote for before a Mormon ran? Conservatives! Duh!

He just took Maine - so your analysis of his ability to win Northeastern states is washed up.

Can you see McPain standing next to Obama in a debate? It would be Kennedy and (an old crazy) Nixon all over again.

Romney can wipe the floor with an attractive empty suit like Obama - he’s smarter, better looking, understands the facts and issues about 1000 times better and actually has the best interests of the USA in mind. Obama is all about Obama - no experience, no understanding of anything. What’s McCain done but sit in the Senate making kissy face with liberals like Kennedy for years?

GO MITT! He’s our only hope!

Huckabee is NOT a conservative. He is a big government liberal. During his time as governor of Arkansas, he TRIPLED state government spending, increased taxes, released over 1,000 criminals from prison, and supported giving state-funded college scholarships to the children of illegal aliens.

Huckabee also is a intellectual lighweight. He does not even understand his own “fair tax” plan and admitted that it would not be so simple after all. He does not really understand economic issues nor does he understand foreign policy issues.

Finally, I find Huckabee to be a sweet-talking shyster. I reminds me of a used-car salesman. I don’t think I would trust him as far as I could throw him. He seems to be a Republican version of Bill Clinton. In fact, people in Arkansas say he is even more liberal than Bill Clinton.

Therefore, I implore anyone thinking of voting for Huckabee to reconsider and vote for Romney. Romney may not be perfect, but he is a far better choice than either McCain or Huckabee.

What has been amazing is the flip flop of Romney, again!. First he spent millions of dollars lying about how liberal Mike is, now that he is losing, that thoughs supporting Governor Huckabee are true conservatives, he now says Mike is taking his conservative voters away. Mitt, you ran as a liberal for Governor, now you are running for president as a conservative? The truth be told you are neither. Your track record is you are a self serving monster. Your record as a CEO has left many people without a job. Your company Bain is now in China creating a network of companies to produce more work to import product to this country. Your passion for people is, don’t get in my way. Arrogance is your party. I suggest you take your silver spoon and sell it. Maybe we can talk you into staying in the race so we can get all that Money you stole from this Country’s people.

Come on Romney stick around. You know darn well that once we get to convention, all that money you spent will drain you dry and you will look like the Kaiser you are. How is that? By the time we get to the convention, Rush, Hannity and the rest under the banner of Clear Channel will be exposed for the conflict of interest, that you are their boss, as Bain Capital has purchased this media and these pundit void heads, yes you Rush, Hannity has always been, will be eating the dust of everyone leaving, as these pundits space of demure propaganda will be too bitter to overcome. And they claim to be conservative. Actually they are being as the current GOP elite, sick and rotting in their own power and stew.

The only way out of this Romney children and I don’t mean that biologically, is to repent and confess your ways. By Mitt.

In response to By Mark Dewey:

YOU ARE A LIAR!!! Guess I shouldn’t be surprised coming from a Romney supporter though.

Huckabee took office in Arkansas with a $200 million deficit. Fact

The Supreme Court ordered the Arkansas government to bring their schools into compliance which resulted in a tax increase of $380 million. Their schools went from 49th in the country to 8th after this tax increase. Sounds like a good investment to me. Fact

The infrastructure project resulted in another tax increase of $122 million which the voters in Arkansas later approved by an 80% margin to cover the bonds for that. Arkansas roads were considered most improved nationwide by Trucker Magazine. This resulted in thousands of new jobs and good growth in their economy. Both of which Massachusetts finished in the bottom 4 states nationwide during Romney’s term. Fact

He left office with an $850 million surplus which went back to Arkansans as a tax cut just after Huckabee left office. Fact

Pardon - Releasing of responsibility Commute - Shorten time Parole - Only parole board, no Gov.

Your number of 1000 criminals released from jail is a LIE!!! Learn what the words mean and then do your own research and stop reading Romney’s talking points. You will end up looking like him and trying to explain what the word “SAW” means.

Then the rest of your post is personal insults. I doubt very seriously that you have sat down and talked to Governor Mike Huckabee so you obviously don’t know what you are talking about here as well.

To try and convince someone they should vote a certain way because you think they should, just demonstrates how arrogant and unethical Romney and his supporters are. A person’s vote belongs to them and no one else. Each American should cast their vote for the person that best represents their views. After all, that is who will be speaking for them in Washington. People should not vote based on a strategy or because they are voting against someone else. Vote for the person who best speaks for you and only you. This is a personal thing. You can’t or shouldn’t even try to change your wife’s vote or husband’s vote. That is their vote, it belongs to them. When we stray from this, we stray from being Americans. I don’t care who you vote for just please get out and vote.

A vote for Huckabee is a vote for the Fair Tax - the ONLY economic plan that is NOT a “here’s what I’ll do”, but a “here’s HOW I’ll do it.” I don’t care if Huckabee says “Merry Christmas” or “God Bless” from the White House as long as he uses the bully pulpit to push for the Fair Tax.

ALL Presidential stuff is BS. The President is only as powerful as his/her ability to influence Congress. It makes no difference at all if we elect Clinton, Obama, McCain, Romney, Huckabee, or even Paul. With the exception of the Fair Tax, which is sweeping economic reform not seen in modern times, ALL candidates will leave the country a little worse than they found it.

Untax businesses and America becomes a tax haven where businesses want to locate, not vacate. It might not be the only solution to reverse America’s economic decline, but it’s the only one with growing grassroots support - once someone (like me) supports the Fair Tax, they never decide to not support it.

Mike is the only life long conservative in the race. Despite the lies told about him by the Country Club For Growth, he got tax cuts through a donk dominated legislature, unlike Romney. Mike is a fiscal conservative, he is pro-life, pro-family, and pro-2nd amendment, always has been, unlike Mitt, who says he is all those things now. The GOP establishment is pushing for McCain, because polling(see Rasmussen Report) shows that of the three, only McCain beats Billary or Obambi. The GOP establishment only cares about the GOP winning, they don’t care one bit about conservatives, and assume we will vote for the GOP, irrespective of who is nominated. My message is simple, I am a conservative, not a Republican. McCain is not a conservative, he despises us. Mitt seems conservative now based on what he says, but a look in the not too distant past shows him espousing abortion, gay marriage, forcing Catholic Hospitals to give the morning after pill, and he actually said he supported the so-called Assault Weapon ban, but now he doesn’t. Go to the Gun Owners of America website, and see for yourself, as they have an article for each of the candidates, in both parties. I like Mike, and I have actually met him in person in a casual setting, just as his time as Gov. was ending. He is a genuinely good and decent man, and character, as well as conservatism matter to me. I support Mike, and regardless of how the primaries go, I look forward to casting a vote for him in the election. If Mitt wins, I will vote for him in the general election, but not if the little bully from Arizona wins. I’m a conservative, and if it’s McCain vs. the donks, I will not have a candidate.

WoW! There is a lot of angry people out there. Can’t we all just be NICE! All the candidates have their strengths and weaknesses. It is important to exercise our right to vote and it is our vote not someone else’s to make. I like Mike Huckabee because he has a sense of humor and we all need that. Remember Ronald Reagan? He made us smile and not be so forlorn. He reminded us of the gift we have been given to be AMERICANS. He inspired us to reach higher, give more, and to love even Democrats. Huckabee is the only candidate that remotely approaches that inspirational level that Reagan did. Huckabee is a winner even when he is down. Even if he doesn’t win he has given a lot to all who have followed his candidacy. He has inspired even my children to want to help him. This is a TRUE leader in the lineage of Reagan.

If Huckabee doesn’t make it this time he will be back. Ronald Reagan came back and took the world by storm.

In the beginning I sort of liked Huckabee - then came his statement that he doesn’t know much about Mormons…don’t they believe Jesus and Satan are brothers? First of all, Huck was the keynote speaker at the SB convention in SLC - held there for the specific purpose of witnessing to Mormons. He knows exactly what Mormons believe and exactly how to distort it! For those who worry about Mormonism, I agree with those who posted earlier - look up the basic doctrine at mormon.org and find out for yourselves. Personally I don’t see why what Mormons believe happens after death applies to anything in this political season. What should matter is the fact that they are decent, trustworthy people of integrity. I haven’t heard anyone from MA. complain that Mitt tried to convert the state! It sounds like Mike is more interested in conversions than Mitt is - Mike is running for Pastor in Chief. Since that first little inuendo I have paid attention to every little lie and inuendo Huckabee has uttered - and there are a lot. He also has 5-6 ethics violations he’s been cited for, what a guy! Mitt Romney seems to live a scandal free life. Those who state he has flip flopped on “every position” really haven’t done their homework and probably won’t. They are so smitten with Huckabee they can’t bring themselves to see the truth. Mitt Romney isn’t well liked by the mainstream media, McCain and Huckabee don’t like him either - reason enough for him to get my vote!

Huckster fans, If you think Hucklebery will be back after losing this battle, think again, you are delusional. People have great memories.

In baseball, everyone knows that by making a sacrifice play you have the potential to be a hero. You become a winner for the team. But in this campaign, Huck is the 3rd class player who wants the homerun instead of making a sacrifice. He wants to hear the crowd cheer “Huck, Huck, We love You! But when the last pitch is thrown and he strikes out - losing for the game for him and the team (all conservatives)- everyone will remember. Nope, no future for you Huck in the Big Leagues!

By Saddened

February 4, 2008 11:23 PM | Link to this

After reading through all the comments I feel sadness that there is so much hate against those that don’t share the same views. There were a few folks that were civil, didn’t slander and kept to the point. They are to be commended for being above the bickering and name calling.

I’m a Latter Day Saint, former Baptist, Methodist, and Church of God member and know what it’s like to be a Protestant and a Latter Day Saint. There are many good people in all religions who are trying to live their lives as the Savior taught. They are going about their lives and doing good as He did and offering their assistance to those in need.

Politics is important but should not get in the way of the love we should have for our fellow man. Hate is something that is very real in our world today and those that wish our demise have enough hate to go around. We should not stoop to their level under any circumstances.

We should focus on the issues, determine what our positions are and exercise our vote. Tomorrow is a very important day and we should take it very seriously. When we argue and bicker, the opposition is getting what they have gleafully been wanting for years - a splinter of the Republican party.

I will vote for Mitt Romney, but that is because my political positions line up with his. My second choice would be Huckabee even though I know he has very little love for the Mormons. I can’t vote for McCain because of his disdain for conservative Christians and more importantly because of his filthy mouth, child-like tantrums, liberal positions, and his age. I also believe as Chuck Norris does, that McCain is too old to stand up under the rigors of the Presidency. Look at how President Clinton and President Bush aged after they each were in in office just 8 short years.

I will be very prayerful and hopeful now and in the coming months that our country will be led by a good and honorable leader so the freedoms we enjoy will be preserved and the Constitution upheld.

Each of you may have a different view of who you think that leader should be. That’s ok, but be sure you vote your conscious. Making a decision for a candidate after research and thoughtful consideration is what politics is all about. Go forth and vote!!!!

I thought only liberals were devoid of a sense of humor. The letting air out of tires is a joke, and a shot at what the donks did to GOP get out the vote vans back in ‘04. As for the statement Mike made about not knowing much about Mormonism, and the other part, it was a question he was asking a man who is considered to be one of the most knowledgeable men in America on religion. I don’t recall the man’s name, I heard Michael Medved discuss this in length, and he has had the scholar on his show. Medved is not a Huckabee supporter either, he supports McCain…why I don’t know, but he did come to Mike’s defense on the misrepresentation about what he said. It was a legitimate question he asked a scholar, in a private conversation while riding in a car together. Then that info gets to a NY Slimes reporter, and makes it into a hit piece on Mike, and makes it sound like he was slamming Mormons. The lies and distortions about Mike’s record are astounding, but not as astounding as the laziness of some people to not get all of the facts. I’m certain that all of the people posting comments here, that are opposed to Mike, are opposed for personal and emotional reasons, and haven’t even visited his website.

The real reason that both Huckabee and McCain attack Romney? For the same reason that the aides to Thompson and Giuliani traded dirt on Romney. None of the other GOP candidates even likes this guy. None of them can stand him. It’s well known.

Romney is a social liberal with a thin coat of conservative paint applied to him just in time for the campaign. Don’t just believe what everyone in talk radio - many of them based in New York - says. What is the likelihood that someone liberal enough to win a statewide contest in Mass suddenly becomes a conservative and changes every position just in time for the election? He is a salesman - and a good one. But you don’t really want the product. It just looks good on TV and has a few “celebrity” pitchmen telling everyone it’s the greatest thing ever.

By WakeWashington

Huckabee is the most ethics-challenged candidate out there. And if he has anything to do with a GOP presidential campaign after Super Tuesday, the Democrats are going to show how easy he has had it up to now.

They have been holding their fire, waiting to make the most of an easy kill. And this summer when the moment seems just right, they’ll start off with his sellout to the tobacco industry and all of his ethics violations and his misuse of public office for personal greed.

The “wedding” gift registry he used to shake people down after leaving the governor’s office won’t seem like a big deal at first.

But Democrats will expand on the picture of greed, bringing up the Jonesboro school shooting and how Huckabee promised survivors no one would profit from it, only to cut a book deal a few days later and reject pleas to share the proceeds in the form of scholarships.

Use of another Huckabee book will start establishing his dishonesty along with his greed, when Democrats start having fun with what they’ll portray as his pretense that dieting took 110 pounds off him, rather than bariatric surgery or some similar procedure.

At this point some fringe blog will use public doubt about Huckabee’s character to seek traction for a charge that will attract heavy web site traffic when played correctly: the dog torture incident.

Everyone knows there is something seriously wrong in a family when a teen old enough to be a Boy Scout counselor tortures or helps torture a dog: It was hung by a wire, stoned and had its throat slit.

Democrats will say it is especially wrong when the crime is minimized and the father steps between the son and a state police investigation, then fires the guy who would not immediately back off. The guy who says he suffered the injustice loves an audience and liberal mainstream media will be only too happy to provide him one at the perfect time. Juicy!

Then they will take Huckabee to task for granting convicted criminals 1,033 pardons and commutations of sentence – about twice as many acts of amnesty as his three predecessors in the governors office combined.

After Huckabee pressured a parole board to release a sex offender early, the rapist went on to murder a mother in Missouri. And people who don’t have a special loyalty to Huckabee are going to be outraged by this as it gets more and more attention.

He pardoned or commuted the sentences of 669 criminals, including 11 murderers. And this time instead of media playing down the evangelical connection, it is going to be played up.

The way Democrats will portray it, criminals who said they were saved will have used pastors to get special consideration from Huckabee. And you know they’ll ask if the pastors and Huckabee got anything in return, and they’ll ask in a way that implies corruption. (Remember all the ethics violations and gift demands?)

Liberal mainstream media may wait for fringe blogs to raise these subjects, but then they’ll report on what the blogs have been saying with glee. It won’t be pretty.

What I find embarassing is these people who comment on the governor in derogatory terms, yet have no substance behind their attacks. Mike lowered taxes, built highways, improved schools, but most of all, has not bowed once on conservative principles on right to life, godly marriage, 2nd ammendment rights, balnacing the budget, a strong military and conservative judges… all positions the Republican party has held since Reagan.

He has been against more conservative principles than any other senator out there from tax cuts, to immigration, to the marriage amendment, campaign finance reform, global warming tax, all the way to opposing republican attempt to confirm conservative judges. Huckabee talks about Romney spending $100 million as if it’s a big deal. Funny thing is, Romney’s already made it back interest. He’s probably getting 10% on his $500 million while Huckabee never saw more then $30k a year as the hypocritical man of God he pretends to be. Interesting to see a man of the cloth so eager to jump into bed with another man (McCain), or is it?

Mr. Huckabee, Mitt spent $100 mil because he can while you’ll always be a degenerate sellout, robbing from the poor and praising the good lord.
