Mops have been thrown: Sanford Bishop’s wife accosted because of her Clinton support

The wife of U.S. Rep. Sanford Bishop was accosted this week because of her support for Hillary Clinton, the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer is reporting today.

Sanford Bishop is supporting Obama. But Vivian Creighton Bishop, a municipal court clerk in Columbus, is co-chair of the Georgia Women for Hillary committee.

Vivian Bishop said the incident occurred at the Clinton office in Columbus. According to the article:

She said about 2 p.m. Monday, she went to the building at 804 Veterans Parkway to pick up a friend before driving to the airport for a flight to Washington, where she was to see the president’s State of the Union address. As she walked into the building, a man at a vacant house next door started hollering.

“I couldn’t make out what he was saying, so I wasn’t sure he was talking to me or to someone else who may have been in the yard,” Bishop said. But when she came back out, there was no doubt.

“He said, ‘You heard what I said. You should be ashamed of yourself for supporting that white woman, you stupid something.’ He started calling me names,” she said of the man, who was black. “And I said, ‘Pardon me,’ and he said, ‘You heard what I said, supporting that white woman.’ “

Then he threw a mop at her, she said. “It got stuck in the hedges.”

it’s just as wrong to vote for someone based on the color of their skin as it is to vote against someone based on the color of their skin. bigotry is bigotry and no group is immune to receiving it or giving it. poor Obama, he seems like a good guy, but I think the worst thing that could happen to him is to be elected. as soon as he doesn’t take the side of black people for one thing, instead of looking at the needs of the country as a whole, he will catch so much flak from black people, he will be called an Uncle Tom and he will be treated worse than Bill Cosby was when he talked about truth, fairness and accountability.

this entire article is not worth the paper it is written on. Who cares what someone said to her. To me it is no more than mudlslinging and more racial division. By the way, perhaps her and her husband should get another job since neither one of them are representing the massives of the people.

If this incident actually happened, then it is definately wrong. I say if because the story goes on to say the police report “… listed the victim as the “City of Columbus” and did not say Bishop witnessed or reported what happened.” the report itself does not verify or confirm the actual events as described.

However, I do believe that anyone has the right to vote for whoever they want; black, white, yellow, or fuscia. I also believe others have the right to question your decision and call you out about it. But chasing somebody and physically threatening them is not helpful.

Still, I do think anybody planning on voting for Hillary should be in fear for their lives. We will all be praying for death if that lying, manipulative banshee gets into office.

The Bishops should be ashamed to support either of those candidates. They seem to forget that 70% of their constituents in South GA are moderate-conservatives. So I guess the Bishop’s are in agreement with both Hillary and Hussein. They believe in gov’t funded partial birth abortion, drivers licenses for illegals, and socialist laws. I wish someone down here would run against the Bishop’s so they wouldn’t have to worry about making any more state of the union address’s.

if hate crimes are to be enforced fairly and equally, as they should be if they are enacted, this should regarded as a hate crime and punished as such, bet it won’t happen. hate crimes are redundant anyway, just punish someone for the crime they commit. the reason for a crime usually not against the law.

Most blacks are voting for him just because he is black. Period. He is NOT experienced enough, nor qualified yet. Hillary is by far the most politically savvy and experienced, both domestically and internationaly. And this fact p** off people ‘cause they know it but still want Obama now. Will- they dont believe in partial birth abortions. I have a question for you- since you are against abortion period. THere are 14,000 children in Georgia waiting to be adopted - hOw many have you adopted? Yeah I thougt not- so to all the Christian conservatives adopt atleast 5 kids a piece and then talk to me about abortion. Without Abortion that 14,000 would triple in less than a year. WHich SOcialist laws are you referring to? This is America not England pre-america- where you didnt have a right to practice your own religion or have freedom of speech.

By the way to all who keep throwing the word racist around please understand that the only thing in this country that can be racist is an institution ie.. government, religion ect. These people are prejudice. In order to be racist you have to have the ability to control people Politcally, economically and/0r through education.

I remember when the white bigots used to say that blacks don’t want equal rights, they want special rights. This being said, I now ask my black friends who are supporting Obama because he’s black, if it’s ok for blacks to support Obama because he’s black, why isn’t ok for whites to support a white person based on color? As Latinos seem destined to be a greater threat to the white’s major status, the black community needs to be careful not to concede the moral high ground that the community has enjoyed for so long as thay will need it in the years to come because it would that blacks will not enjoy a majority status in this country for the forseeable future. White guilt will go so far and reverse bigotry will help extinguish it. When this white guilt wears off, such reverse bigotry will be pointed to as justification for future, majority-sided discrimination.

Let’s make Dr. King’s dream the American dream and learn to treat each other as brothers and sisters, regardless of color.

We have a Congress, with a lower approval rating than Bush, doing absolutely nothing and sliding under the radar because everyone is too caught up in their “HATE BUSH” thinking to notice. What’s narrow minded about reporting to this blog, EXACTLY, what I hear the overwhelming majority of black folks saying? Now I agree George Bush et al R all crooks but this comes down to experience. Obama has absolutely ZERO experience dealing w/ for example, the Israelis; they don’t know him. Using just this example,do you have any idea how much time would be wasted while all they “got to know” Obama and crew? Years at a minimum. Hillary can hit the ground running; she’s been there, for years. They all know her, have had many experiences w/ her and her team and know what to expect. This country needs an experienced president who can repair our damaged image at home and overseas beginning the minute after the inauguration; not months down the road while Obama and team try to find the rooms in the White House.

Every citizen in the United States of America, which is registered to vote, has the right to vote for whomever they choose. Every individual is voting for whom they think will be the right candidate for the U.S.

If you are voting because of race, color and/or religion that is something that you have to deal with, and you could care less about their abilities and character.

Before you classify Hillary as experienced, perhaps you should examine her Senate record. As far as Obama is concerned, he would NOT ever be considered as presidential material if he were white. He has no experience and his voting record is absurd and contradictive at best. I’m really tired of the BUSH haters and suggest those of you in that category examine the congressional voting record for the last several years before you sling any more mud at our president. The ignorant belief that a new president can “FIX” the gas prices, the housing market and health care for those who feel medicaid is not enough, really need to educate themselves before November descends upon us. I pray a large percentage of the politically uneducated are not registered voters.

Obama is not white or black, it’s a 50, 50 chance he’s one or the other. He is playing the race card, whether, he’s black enough or the other way around, to day he claims to be black enough. What race is support to be the prejudices, from what I have seem and heard the black races wins by a large majority. So the fact, as it’s presented on T.V., newspaper , and some so call leaders, is that we are not support to electing a qualify president come November, We are support to electric a so called Black man. This is because Blacks want it whether he runs the country to the ground or not. Obama, is not John Kennedy and he’ll never be close to what John Kennedy was. Again the anxiety, of the black to claim anyone who becomes famous of mix blood of one of theirs, is pathetic. People would respect Obama more if when ask if he was black enough, he would have said I’ am enough of all colors and races to be president of these United State. Yes, Blacks can deny it, but they are the most by far, prejudices race in this country.

Where in the heat of war with the Middle East…The type of countries that think of woman as a second class citizen. Why are we supporting a woman to be president, when she will appear to make the US look weak? I like Hilary, and given another time, I would have voted for her. But the US is at war, and regardless of what people think. The Eastern countries will view this as our weakness, and attack with more sleeping terrorist. Call him Hussien so we can associate him with Sadam. Republicans will sell their momma up a creek to keep him out of office. He’s black, He doesn’t have the experience, he went to a muslim school, he smoked pot, he tap dance with the devil in blue suede shoes. People get over it and stick to the issues that really matter.

keith another shut up and do as your are told fascist spouting rehearesed crap like ‘we have troops in harms way’ ‘we have boots on the ground’ ‘the surge is working’. that in no means we should stop using common sense. we should stop trying to do the right thing for this country in the future. the war we are in is a bunch of crap. and a bad example will never make a good example and two wrongs will never make a right. the only thing that unjust war can justify is anything that is opposite. and views like that, I can guarantee you didn’t serve your country in the military. only someone that runs from duty and war like you and George would be so ready to get into a war and stay there.

Nostradamus - Thanks for showing everyone why you and your fellow democrats are idiots. Oh yea, Bush is responsible for the idiots as well. What about the skinny grooves on a 205R15 tire? Ah, Bush’s fault as well I suppose.

May want to read a little history lesson about your American Idol Jimmy Carter. The WORST President this Country has ever seen. Your probably not old enough to remember the 21% mortgage rates and the fuel shortage. Oh yea, don’t forget his FAILURE to lead on the Iranian hostage situation.

Don’t let the facts get in the way.

Hey Abe, tell me why more of my money should go to the people who don’t plan for their future.

Sucking off the nipple of the Federal Government is always the answer for the majority of the democratic party.

and been there thanks for showing who you are and who republicans are for so quickly name calling and accusing me of being something i’m not because i don’t fall in line and follow the bull like you and so many others have that are hurting this country. i don’t like dems and i don’t like reps. i have my own opinions and i don’t outsource them like you do. that’s what is hurting this country. it used to be that people could have an opinion. now you have to have the ‘right’ opinion. and that’s not freedom. that’s not america. i don’t like politicians at all. and i believe that if you want to believe in politicians that you probably believe in the easter bunny too. democrats have no plan and aren’t helping this country, but at least they don’t have an evil plan that’s tearing this country down and to do it all in the name of jesus is even worse. the democrats are evil too, but they are the lesser of two evils. so go ahead and call me a liberal or a democrat if that makes you feel better. but the only thing i care about is this once great country that is slowly crumbling. political parties are tearing us apart and they know it and so many people are jumping on board with it. it’s a shame. oops gotta go, just found a penny on the ground, must be part of that trickle down thing….we’re in the money…we’re in the money….

How terrible. A racist man threw a mop at a Hillary supporter. This is not a good thing, but for those that say that people who support logic support Hillary, whereas those who want an emotional experience support Obama have not sufficiently listened to Obama. This is irrational. Every movement has crazy racist or stupid supporters.

Bill, for example, is stupid for calling Obama’s candidacy a fairy tale, but that does not mean ALL Hillary supporters are old, stupid, naive or resistant to change.

If you haven’t read or listened to The Audacity of Hope then you have no idea what Obama really believes in. The man has concrete ideas and concrete values.

Naive is expecting the Rephuklycans or even the Republicans to work with Hillary if she becomes President.

The only good thing about a Hillary presidency is watching her use all those new found powers that Bush has given himself against the Rephuklycans.

Carter was just a nice guy in a cut throat poker game. didn’t stand a chance. but I know Jesus would rather hang out with someone like Jimmy Carter than George Bush. Carter should have done things like me… like negotiate with muslims that hate us and make deals with drug cartels (Iran-Contra) and then given amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants (we see how that one turned out) then he would have been idolized and pratically canonized for it like I have been. sure am glad I ripped those solar panels of the White House property as soon as I got there and did awya with fuel efficiency standards. cause now my oil company stocks are soaring! bet George and Dicks are too! to hell with the American people, Skull and Bones forever. the weak minded are always easy to manipulate, we’ll always have them.

Republican paranoid logic: anyone that doesn’t automatically agree with me without question is a threat to my manipulation and must be invalidated by describing them as fools who want to tax everybody to death and give it only to lazy people. sounds like shades of Joseph Goebbels to me. the mindless propaganda continues while the leak in the boat gets bigger.

now the puppet masters have started to play everyone with the stimulus package but then they tack on the extension of the KGB spy program, but if someone stands up and says ‘this America, we don’t want the government spying on people by using terrorism to scare the wimps into believing we need it, only with probable cause and warrants should we be watching our citizens that closely’, well that person is a traitor working for Bin Laden cause we need that stimulus package and they don’t want to help the economy. which one is it? does it trickle down or not? is the economy great like we’ve been told for so long and now all of the sudden we need a stimulus package, a rubber check, which one is it? the manure is getting deep!

What about you reflect on the female black vote in SC? If only half of the black women were harassed like that? what do you think this means?

Overall, what has been done to Hillary, her campaigners and her supporters in the last couple of months by the media and Obama supporters is a shame, not for Hillary, but for the so-called Obama ‘uniter’. He is taking advantage of this bullying and he is the one who started and continue it.

Hillary started it. Obama is just fighting back, and he should. The Clinton’s play a rough game, and now they are getting it thrown back in their faces. You Hillary hangers-on have must realize that. You protest too much.

ok, everyone calm down. georgia is a VERY sensitive place. yankees who have moved down here for nice tax breaks and cheap houses have no say here, i think….you don’t understand.

i’m a middle GA native. columbus in particular is a little slower than the metro atlanta region in getting rid of racial “issues”. if this story IS true, then it’s a perfect microcosm that will explain exactly why hillary will lose the primary.

it’s true that a lot of african americans are demonizing hillary. everytime i see it, i stand up and push back against it. it is definitly there, and i think it’s wrong. i think michelle obama started it. funny thing is that she didn’t say anything about race in iowa. now, all the sudden, she’s in it up to her ears with this racial stuff.

as a white woman, i take a lot of offense to a lot of what black people are saying (incorrectly) about hillary.

this story may not be 100% true, but knowing columbus and knowing what’s unfortunately happening in the black community right now, i think it’s accurate.

i’m sure all of our ancestors, if they can see us fighting this out in the 21st century, are in awe.

i hate this.

This doesn’t surprise me. This is what the situation was like in South Carolina. I am for Oboma, but some of his supporters were rabid. Even calling blacks who supported Hillary Uncle Toms. Oboma would never sanction such stupid idiotic behavior. I specifically heard Obama say that he does not want anyone to support him just because he is black but because they agree with him on the issues. I wonder where these crazy pro black people were when Al Sharpton ran in 2004.
