Obama vs. Clinton, and now Toni Morrison vs. Maya Angelou
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
We’ve put you onto Barack Obama’s second TV ad, aimed at young people in Georgia. And you know that author Toni Morrison, who dubbed Bill Clinton “the first black president,” has also sided with Obama.
So now the question is, does poet Maya Angelou trump the Nobel-Prize author of “Beloved?” Lord knows which one Oprah would pick.
In Georgia, the Hillary Clinton campaign is set to go up with this radio ad featuring Angelou, entitled “My Girl,” along with this one by Magic Johnson.
Says Angelou:
“As a child, Hillary Clinton was taught that all God’s children are equal, so as a mother she understood that her child wasn’t safe unless all children were safe.
“I know what kind of president Hillary Clinton will be because I know who she is. Hillary Clinton has always been a strong woman and a passionate protector of families. For 35 years, that’s exactly what she has been doing.
“Each generation stands on the shoulders of those who came before. Today, the challenges facing us threaten the dreams we have had for our children. We need a president with the experience and strength to meet those challenges.
“I am inspired by Hillary Clinton. A daughter, a wife, a mother — my girl.”

Maya I must disagree. I am no poet but I am inspired by Obama! He brings and promotes a strong family many of what this generation fails to do. I believe he would be a great president for our country, yes he has a lot of work to do because we are in a mess but I truely believe he can make a difference. We need a president that promotes good morals, honesty, and strength and he has it all - my man!

Who cares? I guess it’s better than other story about how Heath Ledger is still dead and the whereabouts of his corpse today.
All this Clinton vs. Obama sniping reminds me of a middle school student council election.
What I’m waiting for is Monica Lewinsky’s endorsement of Obama.

Maya has lost her mind as well as Magic Johnson. And, there is no competition when you compare a writer, such as: Toni Morrison. To an old shucking and jiving woman like Maya.

I would reject this endorsement flat out. It is clearly an attempt at black for black, it’s t** for tat. Have we not had enough of this racial stuff? Hillary should politely decline her help. It’s just more division…..

Interestingly, only after I find out Caroline Kennedy and Ted Kennedy endorsed Obama, do I find out that Martin Luther King III endorsed John Edwards an entire week earlier. Robert F Kennedy, Jr endorsed Clinton back in November? Now when find out Toni Morrison comes out to endorse Obama, I find out Maya Angelou had already endorsed Clinton and cut an ad well in advance of Toni Morrison.
Why is when Obama gets an endorsement it is like a media frenzy with streamers and balloons, but when the other candidates get endorsements it hardly makes waves?
Interesting stuff, the way events are “broadcast”. It seems very indicative of the way things go in this game

GAConservative,
Morrison and Angelou are, indeed, different people —- yes!
Rob…the “way things go in this game” can be looked at a lot of different ways. For instance, every time I’ve called up CNN.com in the past few weeks, a picture of Hillary is on the initial splash page, along with coverage of her campiagn, front and center. No matter what happened in the respective campaigns that day. Similar for Reuters.
If you’d been in NH the day before the NH primary, you would have been treated to Hillary’s “tears in the diner”, wall-to-wall, all over the media. Many people have admitted to voting for her solely because they felt sorry for her. Whatever.
I guess it’s all just a matter of perspective. Different news outlets have biases. Trying to consume a balanced diet is a challenge, but it’s a worthy goal.

It’s amazing how much bad rep the Clinton’s are getting. I watch CNN and all of the analyst are anti-Clintons. I am not saying vote for the Clintons or vote for Obama, all I am saying is treat each candidate fairly. I can’t believe though how some people think Obama is God, I am sorry but I have heard no clear ideas from him. It’s all talk… give me some concrete plans. It’s foolish to think he can unite the government when the two parties are so different. I hope he doesn’t brain wash people like Bush did the second term.

It is unfortunate that we have Clinton vs. Obama. It is unfortunate that we must choose one over the other. It is most unfortunate that both parties seem willing to do whatever it takes to win – even if they do not personally create the ads. It is even more unfortunate what happened to a great leader like Colin Powell – he trumps them both. I like Ms. Clinton and Mr. Obama and I like Ms. Angelou and Ms. Morrison. Nothing about these primaries changes that. I truly want what is best for us and either of these candidates is better than what we have. I do not care what the media says or even what the candidates say – I will vote for a Democrat in November for the good of us all.

I agree wholeheartedly with Maya Angelou. As a black woman, I was torn between voting for Clinton or Obama — but based on the issues I chose Clinton. Now I’m feeling the “black backlash” of my decision and the intraracial gender politics. I never realized how important it is to have a strong, experienced female president until my brother said he refused to vote for Clinton because she’s a woman and may be “PMSing during times of national distress and refuse to address the problem.” That’s the kind of ignorance I hope electing Clinton as president will thwart.

Maya Angelou is supporting Hillary Clinton only because when Bill Clinton was president he said Maya was his favorite poet. Most of the older “leaders” of this nation and civil rights movement (ex. Andrew Young, John Lewis, etc.) still don’t get it. It’s not about friendship and paying back the Clintons (or any other candidates)for what they did for you years ago. It’s about what’s best for this country TODAY. Once upon a time I had high respect for our civil rights leaders and talented artists like Maya Angelou. In fact, I declared Maya Angelou my favorite poet for close to 20 years ago, “Still I Rise”. I’m saddenly disappointed in the decision she’s made. She’s not a supporter for change which is critical for the future of our children and young adults — boys and girls, men and women. Maya, like Andy Young, John Lewis and others are “opportunists”. Thank God Sen. Edward Kennedy, Toni Morrison, Caroline Kennedy, Mayor Shirley Franklin, Oprah Winfrey, Sen. John Kerry, Sen. Jesse Jackson Jr. and many other wise people recognize that our country is in a crisis and there is a man who has a vision for change. He’s instilled HOPE in the lives for so many people. I guess that doesn’t mean anything to someone like Maya Angelou. You say “Still I Rise”? Ms. Angelou, What does that really mean to YOU? A “rise” for all — or were you speaking of just yourself? Just what I said, “An Opportunist”.

Hillary is 61 already so there is no chance of ‘PMSing’ which you claim.
The problem is this: like the case of Howard Dean, Tsongas, all these clebrity politicians will not last.
Let us imagine Obama wins the nomination, you will see how the GOP will make a mincemeat of him. All the endorsement by liberals like John Kerry and Ted Kennedy will hurt him in the general elections.

Sen. Barak Obama picked up some heavy weights for endorsements. Endorsements from people that America respects. People who actually make a difference. That speaks volumes. Who “Maya Angelou” and “Magic Johnson” supports doesn’t matter. Hey - I guess Hillary Clinton needs some supporters…even if they aren’t people that the public woooos over. Poor Hillary…this shows desperation. In Support of CHANGE (OBAMA), Delores.

Obama, is clearly not the choice for informes, articulate, non-emotive and truly thinnking beyond color voters.
What amazes me is how colorful Obama became in SC and colorless he was in Iowa.
Obama is whatever you need him to be. What I need him to be is the distinguished genetlmen from Illinois and clean up East St. Louis and give them hope and courage and change before he tries to change the country.

I believe in Obama and want him to get the nomination. I was disappointed by the Clintons in the SC primary, but I can’t believe that everyone expects there to be one Black vote, and expect all the endorsements of African Americans to all go to Obama. That seems to not respect people’s individual beliefs and feelings. If you want more people to eventually vote for your candidate of choice, you shouldn’t attack the current supporters of the other candidates either, and try to avoid identity politics. I am a woman (white) but don’t expect people to say “You should vote for Hillary because she’s a woman”. I think Obama’s campaign has been pretty much above the fray and positive, but not innocent of certain campaign strategies either.

khb: Yes, he’s just what I need him to be and just who I do NOT need him to be. Hillary Clinton.
That IS an informed vote. Their policies barely differ. I like him better. Not because of Gender/Race or any other thing you can dream up, it’s because he has inspired me enough to register to vote, inspired me to think about our future as a country, and I frankly want my kids to have better than I did. What I had was Bill/Hillary Clinton. I was old enough to vote, but didn’t because I was APATHETIC and in my 20’s. The fact that this NEW generation are NOT apathetic for their future because of Barack Obama.
That has signaled something to me and I’m tired of being cynical about my country.
I will probably support either in the general, but please do not reduce my vote to a response to buzz words. It’s deeper than that for me, and I’d appreciate it if you didn’t lump me in with your generalizations.
Thank you.

khb what are you talking about? Your statement is ridiculous. The same could easily be said about Hillary. Her record is incredibly inconsistent, and quite frankly she is riding on the coat tails of her husband’s prestige.
I would say that Hillary supporters are looking back to the glory days of Bill Clinton’s administration, and rather than looking at how they think she would be as a leader, they are hoping that her political connections will give her the push to win her the 2008 presidential election. I mean who is running this campaign anyways, Hillary or Bill (He seems to think he is running things as of late)?
As for you TeeFas, you really don’t think that the republicans will emphasize the already present hatred for Hillary Clinton in relation to her husband’s infidelity? Are you kidding me! It infuriates me when people try and bring up this argument like it has some kind of validity. The republicans will come out of the wood works to prevent that woman from getting into office. Hillary simply represents another 4 years of the same old bi-partisan politics. Not to mention her campaign funding from special interest groups. Yeah… she really is a candidate for the little guy! (Roll of the eyes)
Yours Truly,

I would just like to point out as an Iowan that B. Obama dismissed Hillary’s endorsements as a vote for the past. At that time he had only a handful of endorements compared to Hillary’s many. Now that he is getting endorsements from high profile political figures, it suddenly matters. My question for him is this: How can you be an agent of change when you are looking back 45 plus years for inspiration? When the Iowa caucuses were going on, Hillary already had the backing of ten US senators. The press could have cared less. Now that Obama is starting to get endorsements, the press and Obama suddenly care. The press is very anti-Hillary. The truth should now be spoken.
Gender plays a greater role than race, as it is still socially acceptable to degrade women. It is not socially acceptable to speak about race. I am a white man who has seen the degradation of women in my life first hand. I am not voting on race or gender: however, how can we pretend that gender doesn’t matter when 43 presidents have been elected and not one has been a woman? Hillary is the first person ever to win a primary or a caucus. Obama is not the first black man to win in a primary or caucus.

I’m not sure of the importance of either Maya or Toni’s endorsement. Writers and poets are not any more an expert on politics than actors and other celebrities. It does surprise me a little because Obama’s very candidacy makes me think of “I Rise”.
Either way my support for Obama grows each day.
And as far as the media picking on the Clinton’s; they are just pointing out the obvious, the Clinton’s fight dirty. Let’s not forget that Bill Clinton is a liar, and Hillary is running about as dirty of a campaign as one can imagine. All the democrats have similar policies they want to implement. Obama’s health care plan is opt in, as opposed to mandatory, but that’s the biggest difference. So it comes down to character and the ability to unite the nation and take the White House in November. Obama is bringing voters to the booths like never before. The democrats can ride that right through to the Presidency. And clearly Obama has better character than either Clinton.

Honestly, I’m not sure why the AJC felt as if this needed to be formally discussed. Maya Angelou are two respected Black writers. But, they are also two different women. They have the same rights and freedom to support whomever they want to politically.
I’m sure that if you take the time to research you will find two respected White, Latino, and/or Asian writers that differ in their support of the candidates as well. Why didn’t you choose to include them in your discussion about “who trumps who” politically?
An endorsement is simply an open announcement of support-it does not instantly crown the winner. Focus on the issues and not the endorsements…

A person’s character is shaped and tested by their experiences which is why our next President’s character should matter as much if not more than their experience.
1969 – While Barack Obama was being raised by a single mother and experiencing a life of racial and cultural diversity, Hillary Clinton was learning the art of triangulation and writing an admiring college thesis on Saul Alinsky whose fifth rule of political agitation was, “Ridicule is man’s most potent weapon.”
1979 – While Barack Obama was actively involved in the South African divestment movement to end apartheid, Hillary was reaping profits of almost 10,000% in the futures markets and leaving taxpayers with her real-estate losses in the Savings & Loan bailout.
1989 – While Barack Obama served as the Harvard Law Review’s first black president in its 104 year history, Hillary Clinton then wife of the Arkansas governor was receiving payments from a law firm that was doing the state’s business and receiving board of director payments from Wal-Mart where she remained silent about Wal-Mart’s anti-labor union practices.
1999 – While Barack Obama was securing bipartisan support for health-care reform and passage of low-income tax credits and child care subsidies in the Illinois legislature, Hillary Clinton was urging her husband to bomb Yugoslavia and supporting his Iraq “regime change” policy in order to divert public attention from the president’s marital, legal and ethical infidelities.
2007 – While Barack was promoting a restoration of balance between work and wealth and criticizing special interests for distorting U.S. tax codes, Hillary and her husband were liquidating their blind trust of the nearly $50 million amassed during their years in public office.
The U.S. needs a uniter not a divider for President as the global economy teeters on the brink of economic meltdown not unlike the Great Depression.
Afterall the Roaring Twenties decade that preceded the Great Depression, like the Irrational Nineties that preceded our current decade, were both a golden age for technology, scandal-plagued politicians, corporate greed, and unrestrained personal debt and speculation.

So am I hearing myself correct? People are saying to vote for Obama because he is black? I realize the statement of progress that having a black man in the office makes, but I also remember Dr. King speaking about judgeing a person on the content of his character not the color of his skin. I just LOVE watching the democRATS go after each other like this. If Hillary is truly sincere about her opinions on affirmative action, shouldn’t she step to the side and let Obama take the nomination? It is just hilarious that all these years of kissing the rear end of blacks, she (and her red-faced, angry husband) turn out to be the true racists. I encourage black people to take an honest look at the Republican Party and consider switching parties. “Give a man a fish and he eats for a day, teach him to fish and he eats for a lifetime.” If you believe in this quote, you are a Republican.

For a candidate who talks a lot about the future, there sure are a lot of ghosts from the 60s sneaking into rhetoric and his version of reality.
Camelot II v. Clinton II?
If that’s how the story line is reduced, I’ll choose the reality of what happened in the 90s over the myth of the 60s.
Forward thinking?
Truly universal healthcare, a 90-day moratorium on mortgages. That’s forward thinking….
Continuing to use the words of icons from the 60s…not so forward thinking.

Why is it no one brings up the “gender card” when HIllary and/or her supporters bring up her unique qualifications as a mother, daughter, wife? These messages are clearly there to drive a stake into women’ hearts (“she’s one of us — she gets us — better vote for her so we can have ours in the office”).

Probably for the same reason no one calls Obama on using the race card whenever he quotes MLK, Jr., continuously or evokes images of Selma, or implies “they said it couldn’t be done.”
They are who they are….

Why do I care who these people endorse? It would only be surprising if they had the intelligence to tell the democrats to kiss off and actually endorse a candidate who wasn’t looking to be the caregiver to every person not interested in taking care of themselves. Try endorsing a candidate that has actually read AND understood the US Constitution. One who actually understands that the responsibility of the government is to get out of our way and let us make our own lives…good or bad…and that it is NOT the role of government to provide us with our every need and desire. Stay the hell away from my paycheck and let me do with it as I please.

I am so sick and tired of all this crap. The world in its current state is already going to HELLO in a hand basket. You would think that people, by now, would have advanced in the way technology has, but no such luck. Humans are still as narrowed minded now as they were back when, just in slightly different way. People are compassionate and sympathetic towards a woman who did no more in the White House than the housekeepers. She lived there. Just like all the other 1st ladies, she lived there and visited schools etc. If this is called experience, why not vote for Laura Bush or Rosalyn Carter or why not go all the way and vote for Bush’s Mom. Bottom line, the intervention this world needs to sustain comes from the force from which we were created. And as long as man rules and makes the decisions concerning the people, this world we’ve come to know and love will only get worse. I vote for CHANGE and Hilary is not change. She cried on National TV because people weren’t really feeling her and they liked Obama better, but she didn’t cry when her husband had a stowaway under his desk. (Sympathy Votes Earned, Kudos) Please! If she’s emotional about what people say, how will she react when the situation concerns the safety of the people, all people and not just Hilary? I am a woman and we are by nature emotional creatures that tend to react on emotion and she’s menopausal or close to it, hell we might as well elect a child with ADD for President. Stop it, for real! Hilary is not Bill and if you recall they wanted to impeach him, so what does that tell you. Maya Angelou is old and needs some attention so we’ll know she’s still alive and Tony Morrison insulted African Americans with that stupid comment about Clinton, Black, President. Yeah right! There opinions, in my opinion, are invalid. CHANGE is Good and I support it, 100%.

I wasn’t going to vote for anyone until I listened to Barack speeches. I personally feel he couldn’t do any worse than any other President before him. Our country has been sold to the hightest bidder. We are worried about if a racially mixed individual can run the country. What is it that they have versus what his capabilities are. I believe he can do it. Hillary and Bill is another subject what’s in a person heart will soon reach the tongue. We don’t need Bill back in office with Monica.

Sherri…are you one of those women? The kind who doesn’t acknowledge what it means to be a human who happens to be female. I agree that simply being First Lady isn’t adequate experience—it’s what she did as First Lady, both for Arkansas (improved school system) and for America (improved relations oversees and elevating women’s rights in oppressed countries to the status of a human rights issue). I agree they are both extremely qualified — Obama and Clinton. I feel most confident in her ability to lead and to face down (even if she doesn’t let you see her cry about her husband’s faults no matter how crassly you describe them).
She’s got incredible grace and moxy…enough to extend her hand to Ted Kennedy on a day when that couldn’t have been easy. That’s the kind of intelligent courage we need working on our behalf with foreign countries.

I agree with Ms. Angelou - Hillary Clinton has been fighting the fight for all Americans a long time. Behind every great man there’s a woman - Hillary was definitely an integral part of the successes Bill Clinton had during his Presidency.
I’m not voting for her because she’s a woman, I’m voting for her because I believe she is the best candidate in all parties!

It appears Maya Angelou may have been under some pressure. She knows the Clintons are divisive and corrupt. She knows a Hillary presidency would not only hurt the country but would hurt women. She knows Obama could bring unity and class back to America. She knows the world would look at us with renewed respect with Obama at the helm. Or maybe she’s just one of those senior ladies who is stuck in the old ways.

It’s very interesting that Ms. Angelou is forgetting the Clinton’s started a racially dividing program during the primary race in South Carolina.
Let’s not give too much credit to Hilliary during her time in the White House she tried to input Health care reform and it failed.
Bill Clinton and Congress only passed fiscal responsible policy to balance a budget which only work do to the Internet explosion and all the companies worry about computer systems not being able to work when the year 2000 came in.
Obama is reaching out to everyone to solve the issues of this country. Check his record with the Illinios senate he mad alliances that allow changes to happen for all the people.

The problem with all this is that we assume that because we are black we have to vote black. We can vote whomever we want to. If Maya Angelou wants to vote for Hilary that is her choice (something that so many of us have fought for the choice) even if she wanted to vote for a republican she can do so and shouldnt be judged for her beliefs. I mean why can’t we say that she is voting for Hilary because she believes in the issues that Hilary is discussing or because she is black. Its sad that people want to make her into such a simple minded person to say she is voting for Clinton because Bill said she was his favorite poet. Please give this woman more credit than that. Maybe you can’t see pass color or passed simple minded things such as what you stated but you should really open your eyes. I may be voting for Obama but it has nothing to do with the face that I am an African American and so is he. The issues is what I agree with. Its so funny how black people just know how to divide themselves fighting over who people should vote for based on our own opinions and beliefs like how we feel is universal and everyone should. I mean if Obama was a killer and wanted every black man in jail all black people should still vote for him right? Again black people are playing the dumb role not spending time looking at the facts of each candidate and then making a sound decision and the white people are sitting back and saying look these black people cant get it together. PEOPLE ARE ALLOWED TO VOTE FOR WHO THEY WANT TO! Do you know them personally did they tell you what made them choose what they choose? Just curious. I am a black woman and its a shame how quick we are to put down our own. Lets just try to respect our fellow blacks and people who have done a lot for us as a people and the same way no one is telling you who to vote for don’t try to tell someone else how to vote. Lets just focus on the issues at hand and make sure that another 8 years doesnt happen because we all spent too much time wasted on the color and gender.

1.Food prices and gas prices have risen 300 percent in 7 years!
5 millions Manufacturing jobs have left the country during the past 7 years!
We have a 7 trillion dollar deficit due to a war! The budget had been balance and had a surplus before Clinton left.
4.The Lending instutions need to be bailed out with Government welfare!
Unemployment is so higher than 5 percent most people go off of the unemployment after 6 months in most states so when they do not find a job we cannot count them!
Wages have increased in CEO pay 300 percent but the general population has only see a $1,000 increase during the past 7 years.
I can go on and on!
I did not know the Terrorists all wanted Iraq for the starting base I guess they are so stupid that whereever American Soldiers go they will follow to blow our boys up!

Hi Again! I read what everyone had to say and it really doesn’t matter what anyone thinks, myself included, we are all going to vote for whomever we think best serves us. Some will vote based on experience, some race, some gender and some just because they liked Bill. I honestly wish a human was not allowed to run the country/world. Whomever or whatever force created the people and this place, should be “The Ruler.” Who are we to say who’s right and who’s wrong? All people will say and do what they think people want to hear or see, to get what they want. And not just in politics, but in relationships, friendships etc. Especially when you WANT something really bad. Whether it’s a job or some money. If your Game (so to speak) is tight, you stand a better chance of winning. For example, if a kid wants some candy and you’re like no, that kid will say and do anything to try and change your mind. Cry, beg, smile, dance, whatever. And if you’re a little weak or sympathetic, you give in. I’m somewhat guilty of it myself. However, if you’re going to come to me, you have to come correct. You have to make me feel like it’s about me, us, we, the people, not just about,”YOU or I.” Hilary comes across like she deserves to be President, like it’s her “Birth Right,” like we owe it to her and personally, it doesn’t sit well with me. I feel like it’s about her and what she wants and not at all about what the people want or need. Her campaign, again in my opinion, is selfish and I can’t get with that. I need warmth in words and sincerity in your heart, again make me feel like you really care about the current state of society. A society that allows people to die because they can’t afford health insurance, a society that Leaves Children Behind, a society that can publicly dictate what they think is acceptable, while doing there dirt, behind closed doors. Give people a chance. Make me feel like I can sleep with my door unlocked and like my children are safe to play outside or are able to go to college. Bottom line, vote for your perfect candidate, whomever that may be, because I’m damn sure gonna vote for mine. Bush forcefully served two terms in office, which only goes to show, it really doesn’t matter who you vote for anyway, if “The Machines Behind the Man/Woman” wants you to be President, you’ll be President. NO MATTER WHAT WE DO! These last two terms proved that. And with that being said, I am going to BARACK the Vote! Happy Voting to All… Group Hug!

I am a black female and a democrat, but I could very well vote republican. So people give it a rest. Maya Angelous has said that she made up her mind FIFTEEN (15) years ago to vote for Hillary if ever she ran. How can that be considered a smart or considered decision TODAY? I love her poems, but there’s not getting around it: Hillary is NOT honorable, not wise, not particularly experienced (if you don’t count her hanging on her hubby’s coat tail), and NOT a candidate who can bring change or challenge McCain. If she wins the democratic nomination, I’m going with McCain.

When you say you are voting for McCain if Hillary wins, it proves you aren’t supporting Obama because of how he wants to govern. The Democratic policies of both Clinton and Obama are extremely close. If you are voting for Obama, but won’t vote for Clinton if she wins, you are not a Democrat. You are only swept into Obamania. I don’t see how that’s good for our country.
Again, look at the issues. Look at who has been able to work effectively in a bipartisan environment. That’s Clinton. She’s managed to cosponsor — in a bipartisan manner — a truckload (far more than Obama) of bills that have actually been signed into law for our country.
Be reactionary if you choose, but recognize what you are sacrificing in the process.

For all of the spin Hillary has given on ‘experience’, what are her specific policy plans for:
*Revamping public education to cause our kids to be competitive in a global environment in the future? Our highschool diploma graduate rates continue to fall, and many who do graduate have difficulty reading their diplomas!
*Specific plans to cause American enterprise to become more competitive in a global environment? What we seem to hear are threats against businesses, yet she claims she is going to bring back jobs — HOW???
*Providing additional health care availability without throwing the baby out with the bath water… HOW?
*Plans and policies to cause the US to become energy independent in 10 - 15 years (walking vice driving is not a solution!)?
*Revamping the US military to bring the strength of the forces back to the levels of 1990 — prior to the cuts of the mid 90’s — with heavier reliance on robotics and artificial intelligence?
*Cleaning up the obscene waste by the Federal government — especially earmarks by both parties?
With all of Hillary’s alleged experience, would like for her to address the above. If she can’t, then her experience equals ZERO!!!

Private enterprise will always dictate how the economy should flow, and traditional family values will dictate the values in society. The government is poor at steering both. I think Hillary and John are great candidates. I really believe they are what they say. I believed John Edwards and Kerry back in 2004 and I still have no doubt he can do the job as president. BUT. Barack Obama is by far the agent for change in america. The reason he is best is obvious. He is REAL!! His wife is REAL!! and his little girls are REAL!! When I say “REAL” I mean he and his wife have actually lived this life. Nothing handed to them. REAL work ethics, REAL ambition, REAL obsticles. He has been faced with the very same american issues as me. Not just because I’m a Black Man of 30yrs but because he represents truth. He represents what a MAN is not just for Black men but for all men. Although us Black men need to see success like Obama. He really gives me a true sence of HOPE, PRIDE and love for this country. When I speak of Obama I speak of real intellegence. Not ill-intent rhetoric of a man who has obviously been given EVERYTHING his whole life because of who his daddy was. Obama forces this nation to look beyond the color of his skin and judge him by the content of his character. UH-OH In what DREAM was that from….exactly. Magic and Maya should be ashamed!!! I’m sad for them. Hillary and John are great but NO ONE IS BARAK OBAMA…OUR SUPERMAN!

We have a uniter, we have a man with a vision in the WH and it hasn’t been working. Economy tank, prestige: down the hill, No child Left Behind: in limbo, Small Businesses: tank down. We need a grown up, someone who understands the past and chart a path to our future. Please no more promises such as the sun will rise, change will come or life is change. No more rhetorics, please.

Good arguments on all sides. Again, let’s vote next week, and agree to fully support the nominee! Each has something to praise and something that gives pause. Either way, let’s unite to WIN in November! The Republicans want to divide us, so let’s deny them.

Thanks, Reuben, for your GOP party-line input. Want to tell us why there was never a prosecution of those heinous whitewater crimes? Is it because the Republican Congress and liberal media were always giving the Clintons a free pass on everything? HaHaHa! Sure. If you had a valid point would you be digging up an old dirty pop top and calling it a nickel?
Unite, Dems. The Republicans will just hate it.

sure, and more than a decade ago, toni morrision was telling anyone who would listen, that o.j. simpson was an innocent man. see, according to ms. morrision, that poor lamb was a civil rights martyr, get it?????? i don’t believe she was maliciously lying, but i do think her critical-thinking skills don’t equal her skills at artistic literary prose. bill clinton ain’t black, either. and by the same token, barack obama may be a delightful seminar leader, but hillary clinton is the most formidable presidential candidate.

Jeffrey Toobin said something refreshingly honest on a CNN roundtable a day or two ago. One commentator noted that when Hillary was front and center in the campaign, she did very well, and when Bill has been out front she’s dropped in the polls.
Andson Cooper asked, “So will we be seeing less of Bill and more of Hillary now?”
Jeffrey Toobin, bless his heart, said something like, “Well, let’s be honest — we’re the ones that decide that. We decide whether we feature what Bill Clinton says or what Hillary says.”
Jack Cafferty, an unabashed Obama supporter who thinks he’s “wonderful,” seemed to scoff at that. Toobin reiterated, “No, really, let’s be honest. We have some say in what gets focused on.”
Those aren’t exact quotes, but that was the gist of the conversation. Thank you, Jeffrey Toobin, for acknowleging what so many of us have noticed: that CNN will cover negative campaigning by the Clintons and ignore the countless nasty and untruthful attacks on Hillary by Obama that have been going on since early 2007. An endorsement for Obama from the Kennedys is a good reason to vote Hillary. Really gang, let’s look beyond the personalities and the campaign sniping and go to who has the beef. The last period of economic stability came during the Clinton years. The woman is level headed and runs a highly organized office. She is on top of it. Imagine the top GOP candidate saying he doesn’t know anything about economics! Maybe someone ought to send him overseas to head up a military outfit. McCain sounds really over the hill. And Obama? He would make a great VP. But he is too naive for DC yet. He needs to know how to handle himself in a fight.

By snubbing Hillary Clinton at the State Of The Union Address, Barack Obama showed his true colors…
He is not a Statemen, and cannot be trusted.
And, Ted Kennedy is no friend of women. He accidently killed a young girl when he was younger, driving drunk.
So now we have a coke head, and a drinker enabling one another, and both trying to shatter the dreams of someone who truly can lead America.
GO HILLARY, GO!

Should the Clintons return as Co-President for another un-constitutional eight years in the White House, we Americans will truly enter into a United States of Slime and Sleaze, and return back to a future of a crazy mirror of deceptions and misrepresentations. The Clinton Co-President Dynasty will re-instate its old guard and party machine that have openly threatened to kneecap and bankrupt any opponent. The best hope for despairing Democrats is to turn to a third-party candidate like Bloomberg, which may mean that McCain may well become our next President. The Clintons are shameless in their pursuit of personal dynastic ambition and heedless to the world of hurt their lust of power is causing our great nation and our Party. And we can only feel shame at the sight of an ex-President like a slavering old dog attempting to savage the brightest of the generation that is logically, under natural law, to inherit the democracy that he had sworn to protect when he was President.

The media holds back certain information that can be used by the Republicans when the General Election rolls around. If you are wondering why you haven’t heard much about Obama’s Rezko real estate deal, thats why. It will become a big deal if Obama gets the nomination. Remember that the networks are corporate controlled. NBC is General Electric, war profiteer.

Obama as I see him is the future, the new blood in today’s politics. he has new ideas and vision. He represents the people mostly the young people and the people represent him. He will be the new face of this country abroad showing america openess to diversity, liberty, youth, real democracy and not a fictive one because my friends the reason why promoting our democracy around the world has failed is because our own democracy is an illusion. And quite frankly we are so arrogant to the point where the world is against us. So we need a strong president who will be a uniter as he is the world leader. And the only one I see who does not represents the establishement and self-interests is Barak Obama (By the way Barak in hebrew means “Lightning” and in arab it means ” Blessing”).Hillary represents her husband third term seeker, the establishement’s interests, the senior people and the elite. She seeks power and control ( Top down agenda which is not the people agenda but the elite’s )She has no experience actually I should say that she is relying on her husband’experience. Obama has enought experience to be the President of the United States Of America, our and the world president. He is smart and will surround himself with brighest minds to helps change this country within and abroad while keeping it strong and safe. Voting Hillary means voting for the elite and the message you will send is ” I want the elite to keep and stay in power forever and we the people will serve them forever. Voting for Obama is voting for the future, news ways and for the people not the elite and the messages you will send are ” I want America and the world to change in positive manner”and “That We the people own this country and this gouverment not the elite”. Then You will begin to see the positive changes around the world as America will show change leadership and regain his credibility and respect. Only Obama could unite Republicains, democrats, independants, latinos, whites, blacks, oriental, Christians, Muslims, non-religious and etc… I believe in him as we will all be part of his administration. (“Dont ask what this country could for you but what you could do for this country” JFK)(“I have a dream that one day every valley shall be exalted, every hill and mountain shall be made low, the rough places will be made plain, and the crooked places will be made straight, and the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together” MLK Jr). The choice is ours. As for me I’m voting Obama !!!!

Magic’s commercial is funny. If experience was that important…why didnt the Lakers beat the Bulls in the championship when the more experienced star (Magic) faced the less experienced star (Jordan)? Or why didn’t the Lakers beat the Pistons? Experience does not always equal preparation…Obama 2008!!!

I don’t think any of the endorsements should mean much to the people. But I do agree with Rob below. Obama has gotten a lot more positive support form the media than the other two canidates.
Experience should and does count for a lot. At 13 you think you know everything. At 18 you realize you knew nothing, but now you know it all, right? Well until you don’t again.
Time and life expereinces do matter. Hillary Clinton has political and life experiences to really get our country out of this mess that we have dug ourselves into these past 8 years. Hope is great, but we need experience and actions right now.

Experience and actions without hope won’t get us anywhere. to get this country out of this mess, you need to get people involve in the gouverning process in this country, all of us and not only the elite Hillary represents. She doesnt have collective agenda, only a top down agenda. We are no longer in 1930. We are all smart and we could all be part of this. we are not dumb .We don’t need Hillary to tells us that with her experience she could fix anything while attacking the republicains on all fronts. She wont be able to pass anything. she is to corrupt and hated by the republicains. On the other hand Obama has at least some republicains on his side. that counts for a lot shows he is a uniter.

Enough already!! At the end of the day - vote for whomever YOU beleive in. This back & forth with endorsement numbers (quality & quantity) is inane. Who really cares about any of the “voices”. Seems to me, America and yes fueled by the media prefers to be hand fed in sound bites - really do not want to think about what their votes means for the next year, generation etc. With respect to Abama - so he is “younger”, “blacker than Bill”, less experienced, etc - so Hillary is “older”; has 35 yrs of what experience (if you subtract being AR and first lady) - and on another note - what has HRC really done for blacks -are we not America - what has she done for “whites” - if that done for is someone’s benchmark?? Everybody has an opinion - i just wish we as individuals would step up to the plate and express our opinion at the polls.

At the end of the day…..we must vote for the Democratic candidate that wins!! Realize that the bureaucracy (and that includes the media) are Republican. The rich are not hurting in this country. They want us to bicker about Hillary and Barack. They nit pick and manipulate us to favor or dislike one over the over. They point out things to us and suggest negative behavior (the handshake thing and the MLK statement) Wake up folks….it is there way of putting another Republican in the White House. Have you ever heard of “divide and conquer.” Whoever wins the Democratic primary deserves our vote! America can not survive another Republican administration….at home or abroad.

I see no one talking about the real problems that are affecting the American people!
The Government spends trillions of dollars of our tax money on give a ways to other countries and war/police actions so a few in this country and other countries get rich, or should I say richer!
We see our children killed or coming home with missing body parts and the rich people who live in and out of the USA get richer from our tax dollars.
We Americans have to work longer hours and to older age and with less vacation/free time than the rest of the developed world so we can support the world—-lets stop this bull and support our country’s people first. We have now reduced SS payouts to our people and have cut interest rates on savings so low that are older Americans will not have a life of any value after they can no longer work. Plus our great government keeps rising the age for SS and we all know that once a person not in a government job get older than 50 they have little hope on getting a liveable job or for many holding on to their middle level corporate jobs.—-We see who the Government supports and cares nothing about!
Now we are supporting give-a-ways in the many 100’s of billion dollars to countries that have 3 times are growth rate and who currencies have gain over 30% to the USA Dollar —why, because the pigs are making more money at the cost of the poor to middle class American.
Our major Corporations and the Rich have major investment outside the USA, and they what us to pay to make those investments valued to its max by our Government give-a-ways to other countries of our tax dollars—and we are..
In addition products manufacture in Asia comes to our stores with such low prices, in many cases at lower than the prices sold in Asia and yet American made products sell from 2 to 5 times the USA price in Asia. What great free trade agreements our government supports. Has any one seen large or small price decreases on imported goods that were once produced in the USA—the answer is NO! Just the Rich making more money and America getting poorer with little or no future for our children.
Keep our tax dollars in the USA and stop being the Police and Army of the World—just match the average number of soldiers and dollars sent by the other countries in NATO. After all the American people should have a life not just the other countries. Stop spending on supporting the world—save that money and use it to support America.
Tax the hell out of imports like the rest of the world and increase the tax rates for profits of $10,000,000 and greater for sources of production outside the USA and $50,000,000 for all others and rise the Federal and State income taxes to the 65% rate on income over $1,000,000. Increase the tax rate for all companies that do not provide medical insurance and a livable pension plan based on the real interest rates and cost of living in affect.
Set the rates that doctors and hospitals can charge by medical service performed to real levels and limit the insurance cost and payouts for medical liability—-after all should not the real cost be a crime. Control the cost of drugs, not that a person can not import same—reduce the cost to Americans so the cost is the same all over the World—not that Americans have to pay more for the same drug!
When will a person run for office that will address the real problems that faces the American people who are not the Rich pigs? Let are tax dollars reduce our cost of living and let our people have a life other than work and a real life for most if not all of the older Americans who worked. After all that is what Government employees get and the rich will still get richer just not mush greater than the cost of living increases.
