Huckabee and the Republican blue-collar vote
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
What is the proper way for a Republican presidential candidate to flash his blue collar?
This could be the most pertinent question awaiting Mike Huckabee in the morning when he arrives in Georgia.
With Monday’s appearance at Martin Luther King ceremonies and a Tuesday speech before anti-abortion activists, the former Arkansas governor becomes the first presidential candidate of either stripe to spend consecutive days in Georgia in the run-up to the state’s Feb. 5 primary.
That Huckabee isn’t in Florida, site of the next GOP showdown, is significant. But after a disappointing second-place finish in neighboring South Carolina over the weekend, metro Atlanta isn’t a bad spot for a former Baptist pastor to salve his wounds.
Evangelical clout still runs high in Georgia, and a mid-January poll by the Journal-Constitution showed Huckabee with a hefty lead over Republican rivals John McCain and Mitt Romney. Though surely Huckabee’s margin has shrunk since Saturday.
If it were peopled by Democrats, we would say that the GOP contest for president has devolved into factions. Perhaps the better word — at least more in keeping with the Republican mindset — is “franchise.”
Huckabee has the social conservative franchise. Mitt Romney has the economic franchise. McCain, and perhaps Rudy Giuliani, has national security. The man who can best cobble together two or three franchises — so far, McCain — will win the nomination.
Which brings us back to Huckabee. In Georgia, the victor of Iowa — Jan. 3 seems so 2007 — is again likely to demonstrate his ability to fire up evangelicals.
But it is Huckabee’s easy familiarity with the plight of working families that has given him broader possibilities. This is the fellow who said the next president should resemble the guy you work with, not the boss who laid you off.
Last fall, when he was still bogged in the second tier of candidates, Huckabee dropped by Kennesaw with a message aimed squarely at Wal-Mart shoppers.
He identified the lack of health insurance as “a point of total terror for many families,” and spoke of siding with Main Street before Wall Street. He told of his own blue-collar roots, and the prevalence of Lava soap in the family bathroom. “I was in college before I found out that it wasn’t supposed to hurt when you take a shower,” Huckabee said.
And yet in job-challenged Michigan, it was Romney who shone in that state’s primary. In South Carolina on Saturday, Republican voters who worried about the economy preferred McCain.
When we outsourced the analysis of Huckabee’s dilemma, we were told that Huckabee may be putting crosshairs on blue-collar voters one election cycle too early. Reagan Democrats are to be courted in October, not January. But more than likely, Huckabee’s aim is one income bracket too low.
Republicans prefer to be addressed according to their aspirations, said Merle Black, the Emory University political scientist. “They put more emphasis on where they want to end up rather than where they started,” he said. Even if they’re not rich, they want to be spoken to as if they someday might be.
Ralph Reed, the GOP strategist, said nearly the same thing. Social issues such as gay marriage and abortion already capture many white wage-earners. If he wants to penetrate the economic franchise, Huckabee needs to address small business owners, rather than the people who work for them, Reed said.
The Arkansas governor also needs to recognize there is danger in using blue-collar language, no matter how eloquent. “What Mike’s got to be careful of is, many economic conservatives get very nervous if they think you’re trying to demonize people who create wealth,” Reed said.
Revolutions also unsettle many economic conservatives. And you have to wonder whether the Fair Tax can be lumped into that category. As anyone who listens to Neal Boortz on the radio knows, Huckabee has endorsed a shift away from the federal income tax to a national consumption tax.
Huckabee may want to look at how one blue-collar war among Republicans ended in Georgia just last week. It was an effort in the Legislature to overturn corporate policies that bar workers from storing firearms in cars parked on company lots.
“They are our employers. They are not our owners,” growled state Sen. Preston Smith (R-Rome), who sided with the proletarian, lunch-bucket crowd. The state Senate didn’t hesitate. It smoothly gutted the bill, at the behest of Republican business interests.

From what I have seen in the media Mike Huckabee has been misrepresented on several areas. I hope that everyone who has a question about him will check out his website at Mikehuckabee.com and see what he REALLY is about.

Republican populism has been rare since the days of Teddy Roosevelt’s economic progressivism.
From time to time, there is a surge of populism among working class Republicans like Pat Buchanan and his “peasants at the gate” who won the 1996 New Hampshire primary.
And there is some grassroots Republican support for populist positions. A recent poll showed that a majority of Republicans voters oppose “free trade” agreements that have destroyed so many American jobs.
Still, the Republican Party remains firmly in the hands of the wealthy and big business interests. That is why I have remained a Democrat and will be voting for John Edwards in the primary.

Mike Huckabee is a true fiscal conservative. He has the most executive experience of any candidate running. He was re-elected as Governor until his term limits expired in Arkansas. He was their Lt. Governor prior to that. Time Magazine named him as one of the Best Five Governors in America. He is real. He is Authentic and he has our votes!

NEWS FLASH: We regret to inform you that Governor Huckabee has been medivaced by helicopter from Chuck Norris’s ranch after allegedly being kicked in the head by Norris. A witness at the scene told reporters that Huckabee was found face down in a bowl of wheaties cereal and that Norris had flown over a table and kicked the Governor while screaming “This is a beef barbeque you stiff!”. An un-named doctor from the hospital where Huckabee is being treated has said that Huckabee will probably not be able to make it to Florida for the upcoming Republican primary in the Sunshine State. We will continue to keep you informed as we recieve information about the Governor.

I have a hard time believing Huckabee. He was such a strong supporter of immigration. Even weeks ago he said he would let them back in the country after only a few days.
Here is Huckabee talking about his TOUCHBACK AMNESTY: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0jKeWIrlzLw
I am voting for Mitt Romney, he was endorsed by Tom Tancredo.
THE TRUTH ABOUT THE “FAIR” TAX: http://www.morrisdailyherald.com/articles/2008/01/16/voiceofthe_people/632tax.txt
HUCKABEE LIES ABOUT THE FAIR TAX, HE SAYS 23% - ACTUALLY 30% for starters:
“Proponents say the Fair Tax would mean a 23-percent sales-tax rate on all items purchased. First of all, the real tax rate proposed is 30 percent. The FairTax would add 30 cents to every dollar spent, but since 30 cents is 23 percent of $1.30, the FairTaxers call the rate 23 percent. Just the first bit of the numbers game.”
HUCKABEE IS A LIER IN EVERY WAY!
Don’t forget Huckabee wants to create the COMMANDSTITUION! He wants to rewrite the constitution to include gods will. If you remember, America was founded by people trying to get away from religious governments….remember, religious freedom.

Mike Huckabee has a stellar record as governor in Arkansas. Was re-elected TWICE even in a DEMOCRATIC state so he had to have been doing a great job. Improved education system in Arkansas from 49 to 10. Better roads and health care. The fact that he has a religious “core” has nothing to do with the fact that I voted for him for President except for the fact that a strong man needs to have some solid “core” belief that structures him and makes him consistent. I see a STRONG leader in Mike, a man who knows how to surround himself with people who can get things done. Look at what wonders he has done with his campaign with no money and no staff to speak of. ALL news channel say, you HAVE to give him credit for that. Even those obviously biased against him because he’s not part of the Washington inner=circle.

The Huckabee haters are really showing their true colors with their continuous critisim of him and painting him as a populist and a religious zealot. They point their fingers at him and cry out: “He’s wearing his religion on his sleeves. Watch Out! Watch Out!” Like a thief who calls out when the police come up the road, so is their warnings to their own kind. They are afraid not because of the religion, but because their lies and deceit may be exposed when held up to the light.

Clearly, Fred Thompson split the ticket and allowed McCain to win as Ross Perot split the ticket on H Bush allowing Billy C. to win in South Carolina.
Due to what I now call the “Fred Thompson chicken block” on Huckabee, Thompson allowed McCain to win S.C. with an otherwise 2nd place vote count. McCain’s win placed Huckabee supporters with greater national responsibility than before to also correct the Fred Thompson “Vote Block” mayhem of South Carolina and go forward to win Florida. Now that the GOP has started eating their own for sport and the most electable candidates are defending themselves from the “no plan” “no accomplishment” competitors the last one standing may be the weakest GOP candidates.
Remember, Bob Dole and George H. Bush got hamburger because the young voters would not or can not associate with them and the same goes for McCain, not to mention the other bones in his closet. That means the democrats will win!
Not only does Huckabee need your strong support now, America needs your support of Huckabee more than ever! Don’t let the elite media get you down, that is their job. Be strong for Mike Huckabee, he needs to see our support and know we are behind him through good time and bad.

To those opposing FairTax, please do your homework before stating comments like “it would really be 30%, not 23%.”
From Boortz’s “The FairTax Book,” page 152-3: “…the crux of the matter is the distinction between inclusive and exclusive taxes… right now, almost all federal taxes are figured on an inclusive basis. The prime example would be your federal income tax…
But there’s another way to figure your tax rate- the tax exclusive way. Here’s how it works: after paying their $28,000, this couple would have $84,000 in their bank account. Here’s how the critic’s get their 30-plus percent number: They look at $28,000 as a percentage of the $84,000, not of the original $112,000. An exclusive tax rate will always be higher than its corresponding inclusive rate.
… Now let’s apply these definitions to sales tax rates. Let’s say that, after the FairTax is passed, you set your sights on a $100 toaster… When you pick [it] up at the store, the retailer sends $23 to the federal government as sales tax and keeps $77. The government gets 23% of your purchase price. The sales tax was included- it was an “inclusive” sales tax.
If on the other hand, you walked into a retailer working on a tax-exclusive basis and bought that same toaster for $77, and he added $23 in sales tax for a total price of $100, the sales tax rate would be 29.9%.
There’s the 30 percent critics are quoting. In each case, you pay exactly the same for the item, and exactly the same dollar amount in sales tax. The only difference is how you figure the rate: As an inclusive tax it’s 23%, as an exclusive tax it’s 30%. Let’s reduce this entire discussion down to one question. Do you think the opponents of the FairTax would rather have you believe you’ll be paying 23 cents worth of sales tax out of every dollar you spend, or 30 cents? That’s a real toughie, isn’t it?”
FairTax isn’t perfect, but you have to admit after reading the book and truly thinking about it, it makes a heck of a bunch more sense than the hideously complicated tax code we have now.
Who doesn’t want to go home with ALL of their paycheck?? Who doesn’t want to worry anymore about the IRS?? Who doesn’t want more in their savings accounts and more to spend?? Who doesn’t want to help our econmy??
I for one would definitely spend more money if I had it in the first place. No more income tax/federal tax via the FairTax means I have more to $pend, ergo, I will Spend more = happier economy.
Read the book people, please. You can still oppose it if you want, heck, it’s a free country, but at least then you’ll understand what we’re all talking about. It’s easy to read and there is even a great ‘Questions and Objections’ chapter that is very enlightening.

I have a lot of relatives that live in Arkansas and they ALL LOVE MIKE HUCKABEE!!! He was re-elected until his term limits expired there. Do you really think he was doing a bad job? They are all voting Mike Huckabee for President and so are we!
Mike Huckabee is a true fiscal conservative - Dick Morris: In Arkansas, the income tax when he took office was 1 percent for the poorest taxpayers and 7 percent for the richest, exactly where it stood when he left the statehouse 11 years later. But, in the interim, he doubled the standard deduction and the child care credit, repealed capital gains taxes for home sales, lowered the capital gains rate, expanded the homestead exemption and set up tax-free savings accounts for medical care and college tuition. Most impressively, when he had to pass an income tax surcharge amid the drop in revenues after Sept. 11, 2001, he repealed it three years later when he didn’t need it any longer. He raised the sales tax one cent in 11 years and did that only after the courts ordered him to do so. (He also got voter approval for a one-eighth-of-one-cent hike for parks and recreation.) He wants to repeal the income tax, abolish the IRS and institute a “fair tax” based on consumption, and opposes any tax increase for Social Security.

Huckabee isn’t here to set up God’s kingdom here on earth. But he believes that goverment was ordained to be the keeper of justice. As a citizen of the greatest country on God’s green earth, we the people are called to be the voice and protector of the unborn, the poor, and the exploited. He believes in an America where everyone has a chance to live the American dream. But in the real world the fact is there are those that don’t make it. God didn’t make everyone with a high IQ and didn’t make us all perfect. Some of us have defects and for whatever reasons will not reach the top. They are trying to mislead you when labeling him a populist rather than a true gentleman with a consience.
Huckabee believes in smaller government and knows that government is the problem and not the solution. Some people are trying to misrepresent him by saying he will make government a huge mega church. He does not subscribe to that movement. He believes in personal responsibility.
The latest lies coming out of the pundits and his competitors is that Huckabee can not bring the party together to beat Hillary or Obama. Those same people have held the presidency and congress for ages. Yet, where is that small government they promote so dearly? They had countless chances to keep their pledge to end the injustices and to promote an America where people can trust in her again. It’s time for a change! The government is a mirror of the people. Let the change in goverment begin at home and standing up and saying Enough is Enough! You want Social Security fixed. Now! You want them to stop stealing from your paycheck. Now! You want them to stop killing the babies. Now!

I agree with some of the analysis in this article, and I hope Huckabee can learn from it.
First, I am sorely disappointed in my fellow conservatives for jumping to conclusions based on Huckabee’s courting of the blue-collar voter. Perhaps it is too early to speak like this. But one of the things we like about Huckabee is that he is not afraid to be Huckabee. He speaks from what he believes in, so I don’t see how he could totally hide his desire to tackle “blue-collar” problems.
I also reacted negatively the first time I heard him. But I kept my mind open long enough to research WHAT HUCKABEE PLANS TO DO about the blue-collar problems he mentions. The solutions he proposes are solidly conservative, mostly free-market solutions. Get the government off the backs of taxpayers. Stop using the IRS as an instrument of social engineering; replace it with a FairTax. Give people MORE choice in health insurance, and let them carry their policies from state to state.
Other solutions he proposes are just common sense, though some conservatives may initially feel they are “nanny state” solutions. For example, Huckabee wants our health system to focus on prevention, not just disease treatment. I haven’t researched far enough to know how he proposes to do so, but I can think of several ways we could encourage healthy behavior without it becoming a “nanny state.”
Finally, I think his emphasis on energy independence and security is LONG overdue. Whether you believe we cause global warming or not, we need to stop sending money to the parts of the world that hate us.

I graduated with a business degree from Northwestern University, and have served as an executive with the most successful healthcare companies in the world, while serving on the Board of others. Despite my successes, Mike Huckabee’s message resonates for me, because he speaks to all of us whose financial stability lies potentially victim to Corporate greed and government intrusions. And, I’m very tired of seeing Washington beaurocrats and pandering politicians whose message is one of promising “the moon” in return for votes. I like Mike Huckabee, and will vote for him, because Mike understands that good values, not empty promises and self-serving goals, will save our nation from the demise of those superpowers before us.

It’s exciting to see several Pro-Huckabee comments on here today …as of late, it seems that all the other guys were jumping on Mike every chance they got. For all those who believe in Mike, as I do, keep the faith and keep working hard telling your friends and family about Mike. I personally think the Huckabee campaign is wise to court the blue collar, middle class vote, b/c Mike’s the ONLY candidate in the GOP that can relate to this group of voters. THe thing that upsets me is that Huckabee is much more than just the “Christian candidate”…yes, that is an important part of who he is, but Huckabee has SO many other strong points which the main stream media continues to ignore b/c they’ve already pigeon holed MIke as their “evangelical” candidate (see, everyone has to fit in some schema for the media these days - they can’t grasp it that someone like Huckabee actually has good ideas across the board).
Huckabee supporters — keep on getting the message out. While CNN and FoxNews would love to count Mike out, the fact is if he can win 4 or 5 of the Southern states on Super Tuesday, he’s right back in it delegate wise (with the SOuthern momentum heading into Texas’ primary - which has a LOT of delegates at stake).

First, people need to learn what an isolationist is. Paul is not one. Huckabee is not what he seems he is. wanting to give discounted tuition to children of illegal aliens and then saying he will be tough on immigration just doesn’t add up and no it is not the Christian thing to do. Living in Arkansas I was never impressed with Huckabee, kept the used car tax alive, which is a scam and a half. He is also on the judicial watch corrupt list for 2007.

Mike Huckabee is nothing like Pat Buchanan. Mike Huckabee represented his people of Arkansas by being as Time magazine called him, of the top 5 governors of America. Mike knows how to successfully run a Government, siding strongly with the benefit of the people. He was a Baptist minister who cared immensely for the common man.
Mike Huckabee has been criticized over his faith, but as we know of the 55 men who wrote our Constitution, 52 were active members of their church
Please note that Romney has out-spent Mike Huckabee up to $50 to his $1 making dishonest and untruthful ads about Mike. Please don’t let Mitt Rmney buy America!

The more I learn about Huckabee, the more scared I get for America.
The Rev. Huckabee is a true Theocrat with no respect for our Constitution.
To all of you looking for the most Christian candidate — have you considered voting for the most American one instead? The candidate that will respect all of the peoples of our land? The candidate that can unify our nation instead of divide it along religious lines?
This is all that Huckabee can do.
If this is how you choose to vote, then we should just make our churches the polling places and may the largest denomination win.
Forget the political parties, lets just have the Baptists, Catholics, Hindus and Methodists duke it out in the primaries. The poor saps without a religion wouldn’t even get a vote!
Dividing your vote along religious lines makes as much sense as the scenario above. Vote for America!

Economic dislocations are THE problem with an INCOME tax system that is highly manipulable - subject to influence by lobbyists and continual revision by politicians, taxes business resources and payroll whose costs can NOT be extracted from export prices and results in higher domestic “price tags” for consumers.
Clearly, the answer is in front of us - the FAIRTAX ( http://snipr.com/irsgone ); that’s right, the same plan ardently advocated by Gov. Huckabee ( http://snipr.com/fthuckabeeonirs ) and demagogued by people like Bruce Bartlett ( http://snipr.com/foulbb ).
The research makes a compelling case for EVERYONE to get involved in voicing their support for the FairTax Act of 2007 (HR 25 / S 1025) that’s been reintroduced into every session of Congress since 1999, and with growing numbers of co-sponsors ( http://snipr.com/fters ).
Mr. Huckabee’s advocacy of the FairTax ( http://snipr.com/irsgone ) is the single most important policy position in this election. Here’s why:
The FairTax rate of 23 percent on a total taxable consumption base of $11.244 trillion will generate $2.586 trillion dollars – $358 billion more than the taxes it replaces ( http://snipurl.com/whatratewks ). [BHKPT]
The FairTax has the broadest base and the lowest rate of any single-rate tax reform plan ( http://snipurl.com/baserate ). [THBP]
Real wages are 10.3 percent, 9.5 percent, and 9.2 percent higher in years 1, 10, and 25, respectively than would otherwise be the case ( http://snipurl.com/realwages ). [THBNP]
The economy as measured by GDP is 2.4 percent higher in the first year and 11.3 percent higher by the 10th year than it would otherwise be ( http://snipurl.com/econbenes ). [ALM]
Consumption benefits ( http://snipurl.com/econbenes ) [ALM]:
• Disposable personal income is higher than if the current tax system remains in place: 1.7 percent in year 1, 8.7 percent in year 5, and 11.8 percent in year 10.
• Consumption increases by 2.4 percent more in the first year, which grows to 11.7 percent more by the tenth year than it would be if the current system were to remain in place.
• The increase in consumption is fueled by the 1.7 percent increase in disposable (after-tax) personal income that accompanies the rise in incomes from capital and labor once the FairTax is enacted.
• By the 10th year, consumption increases by 11.7 percent over what it would be if the current tax system remained in place, and disposable income is up by 11.8 percent.
Over time, the FairTax benefits all income groups. Of 42 household types (classified by income, marital status, age), all have lower average remaining lifetime tax rates under the FairTax than they would experience under the current tax system ( http://snipurl.com/kotcomparetaxrates ). [KR]
Implementing the FairTax at a 23 percent rate gives the poorest members of the generation born in 1990 a 13.5 percent improvement in economic well-being; their middle class and rich contemporaries experience a 5 percent and 2 percent improvement, respectively ( http://snipurl.com/kotftmacromicro ). [JK]
Based on standard measures of tax burden, the FairTax is more progressive than the individual income tax, payroll tax, and the corporate income tax ( http://snipurl.com/lessregress ). [THBPN]
Charitable giving increases by $2.1 billion (about 1 percent) in the first year over what it would be if the current system remained in place, by 2.4 percent in year 10, and by 5 percent in year 20 ( http://snipurl.com/moregiving ). [THPDB]
On average, states could cut their sales tax rates by more than half, or 3.2 percentage points from 5.4 to 2.2 percent, if they conformed their state sales tax bases to the FairTax base ( http://snipurl.com/staterates ). [TBJ]
The FairTax provides the equivalent of a supercharged mortgage interest deduction, reducing the true cost of buying a home by 19 percent ( http://snipurl.com/homebenes ). [WM]
ALERT: Kotlikoff refutes Bruce Bartlett’s shabby critiques of the FairTax ( http://snipr.com/bbrebuke ).

Mike Huckabee is the real deal. He didn’t make up the “Fair Tax” but he adopted the cause of replacing the Federal Income Tax with the Fair Tax after taking a good look at it. If you want to make up your own mind - go to fairtax.org. Mike Huckabee knows what it’s like not to be born wealthy. He knows what it’s like to earn your way in life. He’s the right candidate at the right time. Conservative all the way. But he doesn’t toe the Republican power brokers’ line. I like Mike.

What Huckabee’s Fair Tax means is that the spending of retirees will be taxed when we spend it. It has already been taxed once. So Republican… spend, spend, spend, then figure out a way to make the middle class pay while coming up with tax breaks for Paris Hilton and her buddies. Anybody who works hard for a living and wants a better life for their children should know better than to vote Republican.

Dave Holley, a “black market” is what will happen if this thing passes. Those same criminals who now are selling drugs will start selling everything else on the side. And you’ll buy your car or your groceries from them to avoid paying the stiff new sales tax.

Hopefully, Huckabee will be HuckaBEEN before long…
However, the FAIRTAX will be the greatest return of power to the people since the 1st Revolution! I just wish Ron Paul would embrace FAIRTAX, but I guess NO INCOME TAXES are even better!
I think Huckabees biggest problem is the Baptist preacher background. The other is the FEAR of another Presidunce from Arkansas.
I will be sending another $1000 to Ron Paul today to honor the freedom fighter MLKjr, and to continue the cause of freedom for all Americans, as ours is depleting fast.
Hopefully, the King Center will do likewise today! Donate your maximum TODAY!

Instead of listening entirely to what the candidate’s opponent has to say about him, how about spending about 60% of your time reading and listening to what the candidate’s position is ON HIS WEBSITE and how that candidate handles unrehearsed questions thrown at them in an interview.

“Hucksterbee” is a total puppet for the Globalist Elite (as evident by his speech to the CFR). Like “Rudy McRomney” & “Fraud” Thompson, “Hucksterbee” is a pretend conservative (aka Neocon). His record as Governor of Arkansas proved his Neocon status with the huge spending, friendly policies towards illegal invaders & soft on crime. The DNC is full of Globalist pawns (Hildabeast Clintax, Obuma, Breck Girl, etc.) too. There’s only ONE proven man of integrity who’ll stand for our Constitution, American jobs & taxpayers (& who’s voting record validates that)…Dr.Ron Paul!!!

The McCain franchise, in its best locales, has only shown 1/3 penetration or 1/3 market share.
To succeed, they must show 50% or greater market share.
There is no evidence to show that the McCain franchise has any ability at all to absorb the other two.
The GOP may well be in for a long and expensive primary season.
It does not seem likely that this will add to the luster of the brand against the change franchise in the competition which will determine who runs the government.

We have to choose which franchise is the most important, which has the lasting effect, which means the most to the kind of country we live in. Social conservatism - strong family, strong faith, strong freedom - ought to be considered. Yes the economy in Us now is not at its best, but i think more important is the happiness of our kids. Ask your child what’s more important for him a new toy or a happy family where he feels loved.
And when your kid goes to college you won’t be afraid that he will be killed with a gun by another student. I’m not saying that we have to study ten commandments in school, it’s not about religion. It’s about the direction where this country is headed. I came from a ex soviet union country where you wouldn’t hear the world God, but we were taught moral principals. Students had respect for their teachers, we were taught what is right and what is wrong. I’m not saying that we need a communist regime here, no way. But we need to let our children know what is right and what is wrong. When they grow up they will choose the life they want to live. But this will be their choice not affected by the society they live in. We need. Why I like Mike is not because he is christian but because he has enough courage to stand by this principles not being afraid that it will affect his campaign. I bet if people wouldn’t know he is a christianian and wouldn’t be criticized by media, he would be the first in all polls. But at the end people will have the president they deserve. Wish this be Mike Huckabee.

Saying that any of these candidates other than RON PAUL is for the working man is just plain ridiculous.
Huckabee promotes the Fair Tax because it is revenue neutral. Why should the government have as much money as they have today? Ron Paul supports abolishing the income tax thus ending our slavery to the feds, while cutting the budget back to only 1997 to pay for it. Yes, that’s how fast we have grown this budget!
No other candidate except Ron Paul is talking about the Federal Reserve, the unlimited printing of money, or what that is doing to the common man’s retirement plans. This may be way over your heads, and you may just want to listen to jerks like Greenspan and Bernacke, but the truth is that the dollar is falling in value and so is the value of your savings and investments. “Winning” in Iraq (as if there can be such a thing), imposing the greatest police state on the US possible so as to prevent terrorism, and securing all the oil in the world for us will mean little if we are paying $1000 for a barrel of oil, $20 for a loaf of bread, etc. Think it can’t happen, then you need to do some reading.
Ron Paul is attempting to avert some of the inevitable pain by scaling back government spending sooner than later. That’s what fiscal conservatives were supposed to be about, yet Huckabee loves taxes, and every other candidate barely hints as real cuts in government spending, while vowing to keep the foreign empire as big and as wasteful as ever.
Meanwhile of course the antiwar group in this state will be voting for Obama and actually thinking that he will do anything different that the war criminal who occupies the white house now.

Tax cuts without spending cuts = inflation.
Tax cuts + spending cuts = prosperity.
No income tax + massive spending cuts + elimination of numerous government agencies + sound money restrictions on government growth = A Free, Restored, American Republic that benefits everyone from the poorest to the richest.
And those benefits aren’t targeted, they are now available to all - the way America once promised these things to its people and the world.
Only available through Ron Paul and the Constitution.
Imagine that - restoring the constitution. How scary would that be? Obviously too scary for most of you if your responses are any indication. Some of you were probably even soldiers who once took an oath to defend this special document. Guess none of that matters any more huh?

If you support the fair tax then you support the belief that the government deserves to be getting all the money and deserves to be as big as it is today. There is absolutely nothing fiscally conservative about that position. Government is way, way, too big. Spending has increased by 2 trillion just during Bush’s term. This is not play money. It is money that the productive economy could put to good use feeding, clothing, housing, employing and sustaining everyone (in a free market sense of course).
NO INCOME TAX is fiscally conservative. No empire is fiscally conservative. A Gold/Silver standard is fiscally conservative (and the only thing allowed by the constitution).
Check out some of these books FREE on-line http://www.mises.org/studyguide.aspx?action=subject&Id=117

Huckabee is no better than Clinton. They are representative of the slaves of our current system. They are slaves because they cannot live without big government. They would literally shrivel up and fade from existence without big government. Their lives, as with so many other government employees, revolve around politics. They could not think of a way to make a worthwhile contribution to society, so they became taxpayer dependents. Too bad we cannot claim them as deductions.

I am a landscaper for a very wealthy gentleman in Orange County, California. He has 5 acres of land and a large house and several fine cars. He told me he made most of his money in the stock market. recently he told me he recently pulled most of his money out of the market because we were headed for a large stock market correction. It appears he was correct. He said he sold almost every stock he owned except for one company called AVASOFT (AVAF)
He told me to put some of my money in this company, helped me open up a stock account and so far it is doing great. Maybe one day I can attain great wealth such as the gentleman I work for…

I’m an Atlanta voter who is definitely voting for Mike. I like his support of the FairTax and believe that fundamental tax reform though repeal of the 16th Amendment and adoption of a national consumption tax is far more important to the future of America than fighting terrorism, engaging in Iraq, or fighting global warming.
Only the FairTax will fundamentally alter the way business is done in Washington, DC and it is scaring the bejeezus out of those politicians and bureaucrats who rely upon spending and the manipulation of the tax code for their power and livelihood. Implementation of the FairTax will shift power back to the states and away from the overly intrusive Federal government. We have to have wholesale replacement of our tax code; otherwise, lobbyists and politicians continue their cozy business-as-usual game for which we all pay the price.
Do not believe the what the strident naysayers misleadingly claim about the FairTax. FairTax critics are simply panicking over the growing popularity of the FairTax within America. As those of us know who have done the research, the FairTax is fair, it is progressive, it is only 23%, and it is only levied on purchases of NEW goods and services at retail (so you can buy and sell existing houses and used goods without paying the tax). Furthermore, you keep your entire paycheck, including what your employer currently withholds.
To see for yourself, READ the research: FairTax Rate 23% or 30%?

Ron Paul understands what fair tax really is — no tax. How do we get closer to fair tax? Reduce spending. So simple even a Fair Tax advocate should be able to get it. How does it work? Follow the bouncing ball. Reduce spending on anything — anything at all. Then, you need less tax to pay the government bills. Now do it again and again and again. Get it. It’s so simple.

One question. How is the current tax structure figured? Exclusive or inclusive. That is where the 30% comes from. It comes from you people figuring it as an exclusive tax when it is not.
The current tax structure is an inclusive tax. So the Fair Tax follows right along the same lines with 23% inclusive tax. Could you play numbers games with that? Sure, but people in this forum as well as candidates play on the peoples lack of knowledge or willingness to do their homework. But as my Drill Sergeant used to say, “Don’t talk about it, be about it. In other words, read the dang book and get you some edumacation.
I bet 99% of you hacks criticizing the Fair Tax haven’t even been to Fairtax.org or even read the book and you same uneducated nut jobs that believe everything the media spoon feeds you actually have an impact on the vote. And that even includes the leftwing AJC. What a shame.
You hear the water running? That would be you’re hopes and dreams going down the drain.
