The Big Guy goes to South Carolina for Edwards
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Just got a report from Mark Taylor, the former lieutenant governor, who was up in Greenville on Saturday — one of several Georgians who knocked on doors for Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards.
“We got a great response. There’s a path for John Edwards, right up the middle between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama,” said the Big Guy.
As in Georgia, polls in South Carolina have Edwards a distant third. But local newspapers reported the candidate drawing well on Saturday.
Taylor said the increased focus on the economy plays to Edwards’ strength, and that the former North Carolina senator had returned to his basic, “Two Americas” speech.
“There’s a lot of concern about the economy in South Carolina, just like there is in Georgia,” Taylor said.
After meeting at the state Capitol just after dawn, the Edwards caravan headed up I-85, and were handed a packet of 75 Democratic-leaning voters to contact. Taylor said the Georgia squad located perhaps half of them — to be expected on an unusually warm January day. They even tracked down a couple Bob Jones University students who had shown evidence of Democratic predilections.
In addition to Taylor, also making the trek to South Carolina were Steve Leeds, the state Democratic committee member; Chuck Byrd, Perry law partner with former House majority leader Larry Walker; and Macon blogger Amy Morton, who filed this report.
Taylor has kept a low profile since his lost to Sonny Perdue in the 2006 race for governor, and we couldn’t let the former lieutenant governor go without asking him about a return to public life.
The Big Guy waved the inquiry away. “Somebody told me the other day I look a lot better without a target on my back,” he said.

Acropolis Review has an interesting report about a Republican governor essentially endorsing Obama in South Carolina:

Restoring the Middle Class, Prosperity and Quality Jobs in the United States
You must have a viable strategy that will be inherently financially supported and carried forward by the “invisible hand of economic globalization”.
The US is declining as the global economic leader, only because the Fed Gov does not have a viable strategy. The US became the Economic Leader of the World only by the supported hard work of technically creative individuals, engineers and scientists, inventors, who led the world in INNOVATION (Greenspan has listed INNOVATION as the missing ingredient in the current US strategy, that previously was in place, and the Intellectual Property and Patents, built this country to be the world leader). As a graduate engineer and small entity inventor, I have started ventures and provided quality jobs, however, the large entities, like the old “robber barons” have managed to rob me of my money and Intellectual Property. I need to retrieve my Intellectual Property to benefit US quality jobs.
The current laws, gov, large entities, venture capitalists, and powers of influence, consider what actually built this US, now equals high risk, and strongly discourage and make unpopular, any financial support for qualified individual technologists, inventors, scientists, and engineers. Studies at MIT have proven that these qualified individuals working independently have, always created the most significant inventions and new manufacturing with quality jobs.
Restoring the Middle Class, prosperity and quality jobs in the US will only happen when you create Support Programs and restore tax shelters for financial support for individual qualified engineers, technologists, inventors, and start-ups. In this way, the current 80% employment that is provided by small entities would generate a wealthy middle class, instead of a group of “hamburger flippers”. This will also solve the problem of math and science leadership of young people, and encourage the neglected 40% of high IQ students to pursue math and science.

Edwards is the best candidate with the best policy plans.
He will NOT let the South down like the other national democrats will! The South will rise again!
The other two candidates would really like to cut him out, but truthfully he is still very much in this race, and support is still growing. The campaign has $12 million cash on hand, he has 20% support of democrats nationally, he consistently beats all the republican candidates in match-ups (better results than the other two), and as you can read from this article, he’s got a lot of evangelical voters (1/3 of his supporters, and more than the other democratic candidates have!).

John Edwards is the only candidate who will stand up to fascist industrialist big corporations. John stands for middle class values. John Edwards polls best against all the Republican candidates. Go John!

If you don’t think the “iron my shirt” sexist remarks during the Clinton rally were staged to help her galanize female support, you don’t know the Clintons. Here in NH it seemed fairly obvious to those who have seen that type of thing before. Her other “flaw” of being too mechanical an unapproachable disappeared when she became “touched” by a supporter’s concern for her welfare. Perhaps not staged, but certainly exploited to good use. Hillary however has had to play the insiders game in order to be effective as a senator, an insider’s game that Obama and Edwards have vowed to get rid of. Obama is willing to negotiate, Edwards says you can’t negotiate with snakes, they bite on instinct. The media are all owned by the very corporate giants Edwards is taking on, no wonder they ignore him.

I second most of the comment on this page, except the one indicating the “south will rise again.” THAT SEEMS DIVISIVE AT A TIME WHEN WE NEED UNITY ACROSS THE ENTIRE NATION TO RESTORE THE GREAT MIDDLE CLASS SOCIETY GIVEN TO US BY THE ROOSEVELTS, KENNEDYS, TRUMAN AND MANY OTHERS in the last century. For the past thirty-five years huge organized power groups have been systematically eroding our progressive, democratic world, replacing it with a huge unthinking oligarchy. EVERYBODY IN THE ENTIRE NATION MUST WORK TO RESTORE THat GREAT MIDDLE CLASS SOCIETY. John Edwards is the only true progressive in this election race and the only president who would even THINK of restoring a strong middle class. LET’S GET EDWARDS ELECTED AS OUR NEXT PRESIDENT.

Voters in South Carolina should make up their own decision about John Edwards and instead of simply blindly following the voters in Iowa and NH. John Edwards is the only Democratic candidate that can win against any GOP candidate and he offers a real choice for the middle class. Hillary has huge negatives and the GOP is salivating at the chance to rip Obama to pieces.

There are certain some dillusional Dems on here who apparently think Edwards-the-champion-of-the-poor poser actually has a chance, which he doesn’t. His aunt is a member of my church, and even SHE isn’t voting for him (and didn’t last time either).

Edwards is the better candidate. Whether he’ll be allowed to run as the nominee is, of course, not up to the voters but rather the party leadership.

America - Our Mottoes must be our guide: Annuit Coeptis gave us Our Nation where E Pluribus Unum rules. A false-elite fascist plutocracy has coalesced apart from the commonwealth, in conjunction with the Old Sectarian Order from which we escaped, and proves itself, through ommission and commission, to be “enemies, domestic” of The Constitution, and The People.
Reason and Common Sense dictate that We, The People who created this Country, in the Court of Public Opinion, first, and at the Bar of Justice, last, render righteous judgment of those who have treasonously misled us: in promoting illegal immigration, false war, unconstitutional money, racism, bigotry, and election fraud, as well as murdering and countenancing the murder of President Kennedy and Dr. King.
As a professor of Constitutional Law for ten years, Barack Obama is best equipped to transcend the partisan aspects of conflict at hand and lead us in an improved and uplifting awareness of our unique legal and historical inheritance by which each of us as citizens and partners is endowed by the Creator, named in Our Founding. He is anointed.
Let us return to the virtue of our roots, and truly be that Nation into which all other nations flow: where Truth and Justice rule. We can once more be a beacon to the world, but only if we expunge and expropriate the ravening wolves now defiling us: our own fascist faction of plutocrats and traitors whose policies and practices spell doom for the Middle Class - The Beast’s only obstacle for a return to the despotism America’s Founders arrested.

Edwards IS THE ONLY CHOICE, and the best choice. PEOPLE NEED TO WAKE UP AND REALIZE that the corportations (including NEWS AGENCIES) have already sold us out. (Republicans have ran network news agencies since the Reagan administration, which is despicable-and an abuse of power.) The GOP and quite a few Democrats have sold us out. They have put political considerations above the rule of law established by the Constitution. They have needed, and need to impeach these corporate goon politicians who occupy the White House in order to show the world that we don’t stand with these careless idiots. To show that in fact we despise everything that they stand for. This will help to make the United States less of a target for the world and give us some of our respect back that we have lost due to their criminality at home and abroad. All they care about is fattening their pockets. Therefore they have deliberately failed to uphold their oath to the Constitution and do not deserve the to to be a representative of the people. We desperately need “spring cleaning in our government. The current criminal administration has sold U.S. soldiers and the American people out. Congress has sold us out. Edwards is the only choice of a candidate who can and will fight for regular Americans and bring our rights back to us. They were taken away from us based on known lies. All these people that would trash talk Edwards really need to wake up, before they wake with no rights, and broke. Rights must be fought for, tooth and nail if neccessary. If you don’t believe this, just look around the world. Us regular American are the majority here, we have the most populous group. We must unite and stand with Edwards. We must give the power back to the people, and restore decency, humanity, and the rule of law.

Notwithstanding the fact that Edwards permitted his wife to forego life-saving chemo to help him on the campaign trail (is she the brains?), dooming her, an Obama/Edwards ticket might be feasible.

The corporate and globalist interests are getting desperate because they know Edwards would take them on and restore fairness for Americans. He would return the US to the people, creating job that paid well. Unemployment would greatly reduce, our middle class would start to grow and become stable again. This would revitalize our communities and our economy. Our small business owners would see their efforts grow and expand. Our children would have a future once again.
Both Clinton and Obama are in favor of allowing corporatist and globalists to run the US into the ground, putting the burden on the US taxpayer. They only pretend to care to get our votes. Edwards is the only candidate who cares about us and saving America.

The Democrats need to win back blue collar white males. If they do, they can carry the south. Whatever Edwards’ drawbacks, he is the only Democratic candidate capable of doing that. Otherwise, it could be one of those all nighters waitig to see if the Democratic candidate has won Florida or Ohio. Even if that candidate wins, it will not be a mandate.

Will, Elizabeth hasn’t forgone her chemo. She’s a very strong woman, who says she intends to live her life the way she wants and that her job is to stay alive and healthy until a cure for cancer is found. And if anyone can do it, Elizabeth can.
And Churchill, if you earned the money and opted to spend it on a haircut (or anything else for that matter), what who you say to people who criticized you for spending your money the way you want. I can guess.
John Edwards is the candidate who has been out in front, first out with the best policies and all the other candidates have been trailing along in his wake. He’s the only candidate to never take money from lobbyists/PACs. Obama took $1.3 million for his Senate race and Hillary’s busy taking money from the Daddy’s Bush’s buddies in the Carlyle group.
How can Dems consider supporting anyone other than Edwards?

John Edwards is the slip and fall Breck Girl. He won’t even win his home state. I don’t care what he spends his money on, sandramore, but I can laugh at his class card playing politics. John Edwards began the hard way, stuck with his dreams and is a financial success. So I wouldn’t care if he had $1,000 haircuts. The BASIC FACT is, with his homespun background he is the ONLY candidate who understands in his heart and mind the plight of our failing middle class. He will fight to restore balance in our country, so we can once again be proud at home and respected abroad.

I would call that caravan to South Carolina the “millionaires express.” There is nothing more repulsive to progressives than to see very rich white men pander to the working class(and I mean real working class) and tell them how much they (and only they)understand them.
Democrats have been waking up recently to politicans like Taylor and Edwards. People like them are out to serve only themselves, their families and friends; not too unlike Bush & Cheney. Their populist message is only a front.
