Senate race: Air war vs. ground game

Democratic Senate candidate Dale Cardwell came down from his perch on a 300-foot tower on Tuesday, declaring that he’d gotten the attention he needed.

The question arises — what did Cardwell’s primary opponents think of the stunt. DeKalb County CEO Vernon Jones at first said he wasn’t interested in telling us what he thought.

But, come on, you’re running for a statewide office and you’ve spent weeks raising money and building your nuts-and-bolts campaign organization, and you hear that your chief competitor is hanging from the side of a tower. How could anyone resist opining on that?

In truth, Jones couldn’t. He added: “I’m on the ground where Georgians are. I have always campaigned on the ground with the voters, not up in the air all by myself.”

Well, Jim Galloway, you did finally entice Jones into commenting about Daffy Dale, but I noticed that nearly 18 hours after you posted your report about Cardwell climbing down from his pole, not one single reader posted anything.

That could mean several things, one of which you would not like to hear, namely that few people read the political insider. A second possibility is that no one cares about the Senate contest, figuring that the Democrats have given up trying to entice a major political figure to oppose the Draft Dodger.

And the third option is that Cardwell succeeded in getting his “message” heard by the electorate and, therefore, there is nothing left to say. So, what was the message?

If you guys give Daffy Dale any more attention in the months ahead. we’ll have to go back and seriously consider Possibility #1.

Once again, Mr. Galloway, why aren’t the major Dems giving this race serious consideration? Is Chambliss truly unbeatable?

Vernon is running a better campaign, with stronger publicity and much stronger fundraising.

Dale’s act of lunacy reveals just how out of touch with Georgia voters he is.

Vernon is running away with this primary.

Senator Chambliss is unbeatable.

He has represented Georgia with class and ability in the U.S. Senate.

His strength is further evidenced by the poor quality of the Democrats seeking to unseat him…

Vernon (Snuggles) has more baggage than a luggage salesman, Daffy Dale is crazier than a loon, Franklin Randolph Jr. is a 25 year old wacko liberal, Maggie Martinez is a joke, and Josh won’t even declare his candidacy.
