A poll! A poll! On the Speaker’s tax plan
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
After months of having his GREAT tax plan hammered by critics, House Speaker Glenn Richardson can take solace in a new poll suggesting Georgians like his proposal to eliminate property taxes.
Our colleague James Salzer learned a new poll commissioned by Richardson of 600 Georgians in late October showed 58 percent of respondents favor his plan to eliminate property taxes and replace the lost revenue with an expanded sales tax.
About 29 percent opposed it, and the rest hadn’t made up their mind.
The poll by American Viewpoint, an Alexandria, Va.-based public opinion research firm, was taken from Oct. 22 to Oct. 25 and had a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points.
Richardson’s proposal, if approved by the General Assembly, would go before voters next November as a proposed constitutional amendment.
Here’s what those polled were asked:
“As you may know, the Georgia legislature is considering putting a constitutional amendment on the ballot that would eliminate all property taxes — including taxes on homes, commercial property and personal property items such as cars and trucks.
“This revenue would be replaced by eliminating nearly all sales tax exemptions, and make the 4% state sales tax include services. Knowing what you do, do you favor or oppose this constitutional amendment?”
Pollsters also asked people which tax they considered most “unfair.”
Their answer:
— 40 percent, property taxes;
— 24 percent, gas taxes;
— 20 percent, state income taxes;
— 8 percent, sales taxes;
— 3 percent, other;
— 3 percent, none;
— 2 percent, don’t know.

I took that poll, it was a slanted piece of crap. They asked a series of questions to lead to the desired answers. Richardson can stuff those results up…uh, in his trash can.

I unlike you did take the poll and while I am not sure of the plan I despise those who lie to make a point.

Remember that is Glenn’s tax proposal passes that you won’t be able to claim your property taxes on your federal or state income tax forms. Read the small print, my friends, before voting for this dumb plan!

lets see Andy about dumb. If the Speakers plan passes and you pay 3000 in property taxes you get 3000 dollars. On your federal return you are lucky if you get 28% of 3000 dollars. especially considering the Alternative minimum tax provisions
Hmmmm lets see which one the dummy would take?
I will take the 3000 dollars and you can have 28% of that and feel like you got a good deal all day long.

Yes, let’s talk about dumb indeed. You won’t get to keep your $3000 because the speaker’s plan is not about reducing taxes but about changing how they’re collected. In fact, he has promised that this won’t reduce revenues. SO, instead of taking that property tax deduction on your federal and state tax form, you’ll be paying that $3000 in extra sales tax w/ no deduction. Yep, I sure am the dummy here.

Epol, you tossed Andy a soft ball. I’d rather get back 28% of the $3000 I pay in property taxes than 0% of the $3000 more I’ll pay in sales taxes.

Our elections are open to significant voter fraud. Boards of Elections across the country have not been checking the citizenship of voters. This is one of the essential requirements of voting in any local, state, or federal elections. Most Boards of Elections will readily admit that citizenship checks are not being done.
This opens up the possibility that voter fraud by non-citizens/illegal aliens could affect the outcomes of many political races across the country, especially with the number of close elections.
The following states currently grant or in the recent past have granted drivers licenses to illegal aliens:
(1) New Mexico (2) Maine (3) Hawaii (4) Michigan (5) Oregon (6) Utah, has issued a different type of license to illegal aliens after 2005 (7) Washington (8) Maryland (9) North Carolina until August, 2006 (10) Tennessee until May, 2007
Elections in these states are certainly open to fraud by illegal aliens since they possess government issued photo identification needed to cast a ballot at a polling center.
Elections in other states are at risk due to the reciprocity agreements between states to exchange drivers licenses between these states and those that do not “originally” grant these licenses to illegal aliens. These new drivers licenses are granted without citizenship checks.
Voters are signing affidavits affirming their US citizenship under penalty of perjury. However, significant numbers of illegal aliens have procured and presented false documents for employment purposes and to obtain other benefits given only to US citizens. This evidence suggests that the mere penalty of perjury will not deter non-citizens from falsely affirming their US citizenship for voting purposes. They have a large stake in the outcomes of local, state, and federal elections.
I ask what will be done to prevent voter fraud from non-citizens affecting the outcomes of our election processes?

Rick, I have pointed out, ad nauseum, that the Roman Catholic Church’s stratagem to effect the overthrow of Our Country is explicitly outlined in their “National Pastoral Plan for Hispanic Ministry.”
Illegal immigration, naturalization (and the record setting rates of amnesty), voter registration, and the spurious historical “perspective” that this is actually THEIR country, is plainly stated in Spanish and English.
9-11-committing Bush and his Vatican-banker Rockefeller-lieutenant family, the Roman Catholic Congress and Supreme Court, and the pedophile fascist fabric of Rome’s Fifth Column are all working against The Founders and true Americans.
Hang Bush and Cheney, their backers, and several dozens of the leadership of Rome’s Fifth Column false-elite who have condoned Bush’s treason, in and out of government, and the vote fraud problem will disappear through common sense solutions and a secure border.

As many other folks a lot smarter than I am have pointed out, the thing that made this poll completely biased and worthless is the failure to disclose the loss of local control of the revenues.
The poll should have asked: Do you want Glenn Richardson to decide how much of your tax dollars are going to come back to your schools and city (or county)?
I think the response to that question would be rather obvious - HELL NO!

Georgia—get ready to SUFFER! Bridges, roads, streets, parks, lakes…this Glenn Richardson guy is gonna whack your state because the general public is too uneducated or lazy to look into the facts and consequences of doing away with property taxes because I promise you Mr. Richardson and his group of lawyers will not tell you the truth before, or ON the ballot. Property taxes stink, sure, but they really are the ONLY FAIR kind of tax you ever pay. You are paying for what you built or paid in a home. Fair market values are usually pretty closely monitored by State Revenue Departments and tax bills reflect that. It’s very hard to be cheated on your county property tax bill. You usually pay what you deservedly should pay, or else you can usually find a solution by looking at your property records at the county tax office that will fix the problem. Be a “hard-head” and you will suffer. REMEMBER my words…especially the ELDERLY folks!

You Republicans won’t stop until Georgia is the new Guatemala. Holy crap, no property taxes but no reduction in spending? A gallon of milk will be ten bucks! What are you people thinking? Do Republicans not have to eat?

The Fifth Column “Shoot-the-Moon” requires that America’s eighty-percent Working Class be broken through illegal immigration, debasement of the currency, off-shoring, shipping our manufacturing and its good jobs to Third-World countries. The false-elite gets a pliant workforce with wide suffering inducing the young and jobless into the military for false war “adventures.”
America’s Founders were students of History and knew of all the machinations of evil factions in the past.
Closet-queen, draft-dodger Bush’s overt 9-11 treason shows that Rome is in the endgame of fascist domination. The People must awake from delusion and complacence to arrest these traitors and heal our body politic by purging our society of the false-elite which has so misled us…capitally. There is no alternative. The Republic must be saved.

There is no valid dispute. We permit America to be sold down the river or we fight and prevail.

It is Bush’s fault that all republicans are beautiful, rich, skinny, and do not have to eat. They all live in big houses and drive nice cars. Time to impeach Bush and take all the money a way from these rich republicans. I hate Bush!!!

So the state that is 49th or so in education has developed a plan to become dead last. Interesting. I wonder if Richardson passed 6th grade math by the time he graduated law school?
