Disaster: A bright side?

While drought-weary folks in the Atlanta metro worry that their water will run out before the federal government declares the region a disaster area and funnels in money and other help, farmers out in the country are already getting some relief from Uncle Sam.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has declared 24 Georgia counties agricultural disaster areas because of the drought, making many of the farmers in those counties eligible for low-interest loans to help them recover, Rep. Sanford Bishop, an Albany Democrats who represents many of those counties, said Thursday.

But be warned, city dwellers, rooftop gardens don’t make you eligible for drought relief.

Aren’t you just so glad that the backward rural racists voted a bunch of Rethuglicons into office? Not only are they sucking off huge amounts of metro Atlanta taxes now they are able to get low interest loans. The Laughing Fat Man of a joke we call governor is getting completely ignored by his buddy Bush. Goes to show how much pull he really has nationally. He’s an embarrassment to the state that’s an embarrassment to the US that’s an embarrassment to the world. Now that’s a one big embarrassment. When you vote Rethuglicon, you vote against your own best interests. And the Laughing Fat Man is living proof.

Count on the AJC to perpetuate economic ignorance.

First of all money from the federal government is OUR money. They do not have any money they haven’t stolen from us in the first place (or have printed, thus lowering the value of our money and causing inflation).

Secondly, low interest loans must be paid back. This is a setback for farmers, not an advantage. Unlike the low interest loan you got for that big screen TV, the farmers are just trying to stay in the black and recover from their losses. Again, these low interest federally guaranteed loans are also the money they stole from us in taxes.

Then lets discuss the bigger “broken window” principle. Ignorant types in the media and government alike seem to think that there is some good that comes from disasters. An ignorant female newscaster (but I repeat myself) said about as much the other day as she talked about how much the fires would stimulate the local economy with the new building that would come with the insurance payments.

In case you don’t understand the stupidity of this comment, let’s break it down. Insurance payments are not manna from heaven. These are dollars that used to be invested in other worthwhile growth mechanisms. The insurance company had to pull this money out of the economy in order to pay these claims. Additional monies will come from the homeowners, etc. in order to make things right. While the builders and others will see their money go up, all those who were counting on the money the insurance company was investing, etc. will see far less as a result. Once everything is back to normal, there will be net loss of billions of dollars in the economy. All of this just to set things back to normal. Had the fire never occurred, the billions would have been helping the economy in their own way, but not now.

If you still don’t understand, look at it this way. If it is so good for the economy, then why don’t we burn everything down??? Obviously because there is a real COST to fire. There is NO benefit. Don’t listen to these idiots anymore. Call them on it and tell them you are tired of their misleading lies.

Read, educate yourself on economics. The political class counts on your ignorance to pull off their tricks.

IMHO the Govenor needs to stop talking or anticipating a timely judicial settlement but instead he needs to take action physically. If that entails using the national guard or the state police and take over control of the damn so be it!

The lake is full at 1070 feet above sea level. The lake is completely empty at 919 feet above sea level. Critical low is at 1035 ft above sea level. That is where the water level is below the spill way of the damn. We are currently at 1056 feet above sea level. Think of this - Lake Lanier is 40% empty. Hello Govenor, Water bans ain’t going to stop the inevitable. It’s time to act.

MrLiberty is a graduate of the Rethuglicon School of Schlock Economics. I bet he still believes in the Laffer Curve and Trickle Down Economics from the Reagan years. This idiot is just spewing the same Rethuglicon nonsense that was used to justify tax cuts (that mostly benefited the upper 5%) while spending lots of money (2.4 TRILLION) on a war that wouldn’t cost us anything. If only he could read, he’d be embarrassed. But he can’t so he isn’t.

When you vote Rethuglicon, you vote against your own best interests. And MrLiberty is living proof.

Start packing folks before it’s too late!!

“If it is good enough for the rats, then it is good enough for me!….”Taken from the movie, “Titanic ” as the big boat began to sink….as unsinkable ships do sink, and if we run out of water, life will be never the same here, as it was in New Orleans, after the “Perfect Storm”.

I agree with you, JB. Someone who has to use flame-bait like “Rethuglicon” has already lost the argument. Rather than debate things sensibly, this one resorts to name-calling. It sure makes that argument all the more convincing, GaLiberal!

Oh, and insulting those who post here as somehow not being able to read? Some things just defy common sense.

Like “Rock, Paper, Scissors,” mollusks and fishermen in Apalachicola Bay (supposedly $205MM) is beaten by 800,000 customers of Alabama Power/The Southern Co.. But the “Grid” can supply them from elsewhere (EE-types correct IIAW) and five-million humans in Georgia’s “New Jerusalem” trump them all.

If the flow from Lanier is not stopped and rain is not forthcoming to replenish: the power plant runs out of coolant, as it is presently configured, Florida’s bay will have fewer red tides…and Atlanta might have big trouble, G-d forbid.

It is easily understood, though humanly unconscionable for any sentient American, that Bush take the side of Florida (whose governor may have inside knowledge as to the various crimes there contributing to Bush’s appointment to the White House by the Roman Catholics of the Supreme Court) and Alabama (all Georgia must seriously consider some PSC action/divorce from the Southern Company and “Georgia Power” for their role in stabbing Metro Atlanta).

N.B. Any sensible debate must include discussion of the fact of Bush/Cheney’s having committed 9/11: whether military appropriations, “natural” phenomena, “Annuit Coeptis,” or water wars. Given this inarguable truth, their silence on the subject, by the Democrats, is criminal, and continued affiliation with the Republicans is treasonous.

I moved out of Bishop’s district because he is a racist idiot.

Went to Marshall’s district. I don’t always agree with the man, but he is a decent soul from what I know of him.

Got married, and moved back to Bishop’s district.

Word of warning to Sandford Bishop: I am going to do everything in my power to make sure ANYONE BUT YOU is elected in 2008. Your racist comments and open disregard of ALL people in your district is WRONG. And your close ally Bobby Jenkins in Randolph County does you no favors in gaining my vote either. Matter of fact, there is only one way you can salvage yourself in my eyes, and that is to demand a federal investigation into the corruptness of the black politicians within your district, specifically Bobby Jenkins.

Hey Jim!

Are you just blowing hot air or do you have any real evidence about “corruption” in Randolph County? I think you assertion about Bishop’s racial feelings is incorrect. As a white farmer in his district, I think he has done a good job looking out for us…even though he is black. Sometimes you got to look at deeds…not skin color.

Hey ST —

Do some searching and you will find plenty of racist comments by your congressman (hint — comments in AJC about renewal of the Voting Rights Act). He may be one of the most inept in Congress but is really good at fooling you and the rest of the district by always keeping the federal money pipeline flowing. If that’s all your congressman should do, keep supporting him.

You, taking the name of a corrupt Simpsons cartoon cop, think you are “my” inner voice, and “I” need meds? Hey, take this cup from my lips. I did not ask to know Bush did 9/11, or that he is a closet-queen, or that his father killed John Kennedy, or that his grandfather was Hitler’s banker, or that they’ve all gotten away with it, so far, because they’re nothing but tributaries and fronts for Rockeller and Rome; but, having taken the Oath and joined the Army in ‘68, and not being able to forget having a second generation CIA employee explain in fully corroborated detail that the CIA is Roman Catholic, and then come to realize President Kennedy was killed by the CIA (Hunt v. Liberty Lobby) to keep us dying - to the tune of 58,000 of my comrades after Dealey Plaza - in Vietnam, which was a Roman Catholic slave plantation: coming from an American patriot, pioneer family I just can not stop trying to tell everyone else just what’s going on.

I understand why the braindead yet hooked up with that which America’s Founder regarded as “the real Anti-Christ,” don’t like hearing the truth, but I figure since I know I’m telling only the provable truth that there are thousands, or more, of real Americans, legitimately, and intentionally, confused about a lot going on around us, that just might be grabbing a little better American Fundamental Whig understanding about where we are, who we’re supposed to be, and how we got here.

From there its simple: get a rope. Traitors are the hindmost…let the Devil take them.
