Democrats are from hell?

Rep. Jack Kingston, a Savannah Republican, has never been at a loss for words when it comes to demonizing Democrats. However, Kingston, a leader on the House Republicans’ message/spin team, may have run out of earthly insults to hurl at the other party.

Congressional Quarterly, a wonkish policy magazine in Washington, reports this morning that Kingston recently issued a press release declaring that Democrats are, in deed, from hell.

Demoncrats and Republicans Split Over Government Healthcare” was the headline on a release criticizing Da Dems for proposing a tobacco tax increase to pay for children’s health insurance programs, including Georgia’s PeachCare.

Freudian slip or typo?

“Obvious typo,” Kingston’s spokeswoman, Krista Cole, laughingly told the magazine.

“I believe it’s a typo,” an anonymous Democratic aide told CQ. “But I also believe in the Easter Bunny, unicorns and that the (Washington) Nationals will win the pennant this year.”

The magazine noted that Kingston’s office never corrected the typo. Instead, the release was moved to a more prominent position on Kingston’s web site. Read it here.

If Democrats are from hell, then Republicans must be from the dark, slimy, murky underbelly of hell!!

Demonocrats are as evil as communists and radical muslims.

Hell, if it was World War II those evil jackasses would be pulling for Hitler and the japs.

Biff — One, it’s really rude to refer to the Japanese as “japs” and two, don’t forget that it was a Democratic president, FDR, who lead the US during WW11. Did you take US History in school??

FDR didn’t want the US to go into the war-he was an appeaser who had to do something-unlike slick willy who bombed an aspirin factory. Demoncrats just want to tax us to death, give to the illegal and bow down to the Muslim Arabs all in the name of votes.

The demoncrats of today are not related to the FDR era. Lieberman is the last “democrat” in the U.S. senate, the rest are demoncrats.

For you two scholars, note the present tense used in my post as opposed to the past tense. Got it?

Rude to call japanese “Japs”? cheesh-this PC crap has really turned everyone into sensitive A-holes! call them what they are. Now Gays have been called f* for years and now they are “offended” by the word. Grow up people and get thicker skin.

I think a Lieberman/Giuliani ticket would work. First order of business-NO Palestinian state, unless they want the remains of what would be left after a bombed out Iran! Next-Borders secured and all illegals deported. Then, an elimination of ALL pork projects and lowering of Federal gas taxes plus a tax credit for alternative fuels-coal to gas, etc. As for a finisher-we install OUR own governmentin Iraq to rule over the out of control Muslims, and sell ourselves oil at $20 a barrell so that prices gas is $1 or cheaper while we develop the alternative fuels which will put us at the 75 cent a gallon level. Lower taxes, more American’s employed, lower fuel prices and the Muslims and illegals defeated. Now THAT’s a good American economic plan and foreign policy plan to keep the world safe and we won’t need to strip search grandma at the airport or wait in line for an hour and a half.Maybe we can outlaw the ACLU and those other radical groups that want to take away American Freedom and give it to Islamists, and other terror/boycott groups like Rainbow/Push and the NAACP. Read my lips-No More Radical Islamists!

Some of you folks don’t live in the real World. Did you not take note of the last Election? “Democrats Are From Hell”? Yeah, there’s a campaign theme. Unless something changes, the GOP is about to take another fearful thumping. Then, what will you all say? The time for garnering votes by questioning the patriotism of the other side is over.

Who Cares is right. And the fascists and Nazi-strokers among Bush’s supporters should be willing to accept whatever people call them!

Taking offensive when people point out your bigotry and stupidity would be silly; just “grow a thicker skin.”

War Eagle at 11:43am - I would highly recommend the new FDR biography by Jean Edward Smith. You would learn a lot about FDR’s views on war and US entry into WWII. It’s a good read and full of fun-filled facts that would probably be shocking to your tiny little brain.

I wouldn’t worry too much about Mr. Kingston’s “typo” since everything I’ve read seems to point toward even greater Democratic gains in the 2008 election. Perhaps the GOP needs to replace the elephant with the ostrich since they seem to have their heads in the sand.

You got my vote. Imagine that, a real American foreign policy.

The only thing the muslims understand is violence. Nuke Mecca and Medina and bomb every radical muslim mosque to start.

Tim,

I took note of the last election. I don’t know what you thought it meant, but I believe conservative Americans became disenchanted with the Republican party because these citizens failed to see much difference between the too parties. In short, Republicans stopped being conservatives.

Voters didn’t reach a consensus on Iraq though most people want the war over. I am a conservative and agree with the earlier comments that Democrats bear no semblance to their counterparts of 50 years ago.

The Democrat party holds no appeal to me. There are many differences between the two parties but these are some of the major ones that I see that would trouble me if I voted for some of the now-mainstream Democrat candidates.

  • Expansion of government programs, including nationalization of health care which is 15% of the economy. It’s amazing how much faith people have in government when they think they can get something for nothing. A healthy economy allows us to pay for social programs but it also allows us to finance our self-defense. When we kill productivity, we kill our ability to exist as the strong democratic country we are.
  • A pacifist approach to the war against radical Islamists. They won’t rest until they’ve destroyed our way of life. We can’t let that happen. FDR didn’t turn his back on doing what was right. We shouldn’t turn our backs on what is right at this point in history. Evil doesn’t go away on its own.
  • Raising taxes to pay for the expansion of government programs. This will greatly slow the economy and pressure politicians to expand government programs—which will, in cyclical fashion, mean higher taxes on productive Americans. Making other people worse off doesn’t make me better off. I want this country to continue to let people benefit from their own labor.
  • A further decline in our system of values. Say what you want, but a party that leads with gay marriage and abortion as prominent party planks offers nothing to our country in terms of improving our culture. The pilgrims fled England to gain religious pluralism. They didn’t have gay marriage and abortion in mind. Few want to bash those who advocate these positions, but we are worse off because of some of the positions we’ve adopted as a country.
  • I hope people will look past the name calling and vote for candidates who have decent values and don’t just buy votes with peoples’ own money. These candidates are difficult to find, but there are a few around.

Freedom and justice ARE decent values, Gen. Lee. You and I just disagree on what they mean in terms of specific policies.

What you call “pro-abortion” is actually restricting the power of government to interfere in our private lives, i.e., freedom.

What you call “gay marriage” is actually recognition that all citizens deserve equal treatment by the government, i.e., justice.

The fact that you don’t see it that way doesn’t mean the Democrats don’t have “values,” or even that their values are bad for America. They just differ from yours. Ain’t democracy wonderful?

Anonymous—with respect—you can take a Libertarian “no government involvement approach” with respect to a number of issues including gay marriage, abortion, prostitution, drugs, etc.. Our country was founded on free speech.

However, moral values should guide secular law. That society has declined in the last 40 years is a result of the steady erosion of these values. No one, for example, should be pleased with the rate of illegitimacy in this country.

One can say that government has no business interfering with relatives marrying relatives or with adults seeking relationships with children. But “no government interference” doesn’t work here. With your justification, an adult could marry a 10-year old since “even children deserve equal treatment.”

It’s funny that people claim the government has no business in these areas but then the same folks claim that the government has a duty to “provide ‘free’ health care.”

Prevailing societal moral standards, when promoted, result in a better society.

Sure, we can say that anything goes—and we have. But look at the result. I’m not pleased, are you?

For the most part, yes I am. We have more freedom, more justice, and more equality than in prior decades. Remember those? When segregation ruled, when women were bound to the home, even back when the “prevailing moral standards” permitted slavery?

Society evolves. The law should evolve with it.

Slavery didn’t exist in the U.S. 40 years ago—which is what I referenced. Your argument is weak when you try to suggest that I believe slavery is consistent with “prevailing moral standards.”

Ending slavery is not the moral equivalent of permitting (encouraging?) abortion and gay marriage. In fact, ending or reducing abortion is consistent with the concept of ending slavery. Both slavery and abortion degrade (or end) life.

The analogy you tried to create is invalid, but good try. It’s sad to think that some people revel in the degradation of life and moral values.

    I feel sorry for you.

I’m sure you do… I’m also sure you’ll use the slavery point as a distraction from the primary point I made, which is that “prevailing moral standards” are a poor choice for setting laws—because those prevailing standards can and do change.

The core point remains this: when society changes, our laws should change with it.
