Dog with no bark gives Chambliss new hope
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
The Sunday morning talk shows were rife with pundit predictions about the 2008 Senate races. But listen closely for the dog that’s not barking.
The two men running the Senate campaign committees - Republican Sen. John Ensign of Nevada and Democratic Sen. Chuck Schumer of New York - both talked tough on their chances next November, each citing races that could determine which party will control the Senate come January 2009.
Schumer is focused on races in Oregon, Minnesota, New Hampshire and Maine. Ensign, who has 22 incumbents to protect compared to Schumer’s dozen races, named only Louisiana as a potential GOP coup.
And both men are scrambling to deal with the just-announced retirement of Sen. John Warner in Virginia and the resignation of Sen. Larry “Wide Stance” Craig in Idaho.
Left out of the conversation, interestingly enough, was Sen. Saxby Chambliss of Georgia, who was once considered a top target of opportunity by national Democrats. Is Chambliss’ race off the A-list? Are the nationals going to be too busy to play in Georgia? If so, Chambliss could move from doom to zoom in ’08, proving miracles can happen.

(Craig is from Idaho, guys.)
Unless some kind of miracle happens, like the average IQ in Georgia jumping 20 points, Georgia will remain GOP country. Chambliss is the perfect bag of wind POS trash, a man of the Georgia people.

You could say something about GA not being able to come up with a candidate that could get the DSCC excited, but then if the DSCC/DNC wants to start fights they need to start actually training fighters.

Chambliss was never on the A-list. It was merely bluster from desperate Georgia Dems and people still bitter from 2002.

Umm, Larry Craig is from Idaho. Isn’t the new guy from DC supposed to guard against rookie mistakes like this?

This is a typical example of why nothing reported in the media can be taken at face value and assumed to be accurate. The most over-reported story of the week, and they can’t even get Senator Craig’s state right. Why then, should anything else the report be accepted as accurat??

If you are going to get hysterical about a small mistake you might want to make sure your spelling is “accurat”
LMAO!!
Oh the humanity!

You know, checkyourfacts, that the easiest job in the media is fact checker on Faux News or Limbaugh’s show - so easy even a redneck POS like you could do it.
You might have to learn to use spellcheck though, idjit.
Trash.

Georgia Dems are so frustrating. Saxby is an absolute moron - with no thoughts of his own. If the Dems would put up a strong contender, Saxby would be toast.
Come on folks, give us a top shelf candidate - let’s send this idiot back to South Georgia.

shelb is on it. You beat Sax by making sure you get your best to run. Charles Brewer. Kasim Reed. Michelle Nunn. Shirley Franklin. David Adelman. Heck, even Sam Nunn.
Michael Thurmond is positioned perfectly to run against Saxby. He talks a big game, but when it comes down to it, he’s too chicken to put his money where his mouth is. Do it for your party, do it because its the right thing to do. Or go ahead, Mike, and be a four or five term labor commish, but you will be as relevant as Paris Hilton.
GA Dem’s ran Denise Majette, who had to be one of the worst candidates for US Senate ever…EVER! If this were pro sports, the GM, scouts, coach and all players would be fired…even the equipment manager would be gone. The DPG is a distant second because it deserves to be a distant second.

All of this commentary once again raises the issue of why a Democrat with fairly high name recognition — such as Cox or Barnes — isn’t pressured into running. Most people agree Saxby could be beat if only the Democrats could rally behind a viable candidate. Where is the state and national party leadership on this point?

Don’t you love how they do that. “Most people agree”… really? George? Most people are just walking around thinking, “my gosh, we really could beat Saxby, if….” I call BS (Barbara Streisand) on that one. What world do you guys live in? You create your own little realities.

I hope the comment by S Shiver is shared by the Saxby people. If the Dems can field a viable candidate — which I admit is not likely — the old draft dodger will be scrambling all next year to explain why he has accomplished so little in the Senate.

Saxby opposed, granted its was late in the game, the ridiculous immigration bill this summer. That is enough for me. I judge my representatives on legislation they defeat, and on legislation they pass.
Saxby, is effective, reasonable, and conservative.
