Obama wants another ‘boom’ event in Atlanta

We’ll have presidential candidates of both stripes popping in and out of metro Atlanta over the next two weeks.

The largest event looks to belong to Barack Obama. The Democratic presidential candidate is out to hold another huge rally in downtown Atlanta — this one indoors, with a relatively small cover charge.

The event is Sept. 20, the locale is the Georgia World Congress Center, and the cost of admission — in the form of a campaign contribution — is $25.

Sharing the stage will be Usher Raymond IV, the actor/singer who usually goes by a shorter handle, and former Atlanta Hawks great Dominique Wilkins. Wilkins’ presence is interesting.

The last politician we saw him with was Newt Gingrich — the two are partnered in an anti-diabetes, anti-obesity campaign.

In April, on the Georgia Tech campus, Obama drew 20,000. This September event is less about show and more about serious network-building. Among real people, $25 is a significant — though affordable — commitment. And most of those donations will be accompanied by an e-mail address and phone number.

A standard, $1,000-a-head event follows. Invitations for both can be found here and here.

On the Republican side, former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee is here Saturday, Sept. 8. Cobb County Republicans will be shifting their monthly breakfast meeting to McCollum Airport in order to give him a listen.

Huckabee’s appearance — his first in Georgia that comes to mind — is significant, since it will come only two days after Fred Thompson’s formal entry in to the presidential race.

In Thompson’s absence, Huckabee has been building as an alternative candidate for social conservatives dissatisfied with Rudy Giuliani and Mitt Romney.

Speaking of Giuliani, he’ll be in Georgia on Sept. 12 and 13, with fund-raisers in Gwinnett County, Atlanta and Savannah. We’ve no details on the metro Atlanta events — but will pass them along as soon as we get them.

You Obama lovers out there. Remember this. His father was/is a muslim which by default makes him a muslim. His so called conversion is not allowed by Islam and he is considered an apostate by it or his conversion is mearly a ruse. Under Sharia law the penality for apostasy is death, so I am opting for the ruse. Be very afraid of this man.

Who CARES if he is muslim or not? You are EXACTLY one of the reasons why GA is still very racist and probably always will be. We all need to be much more afraid of those like you….very afraid. You, and those like you are the worst of the worst, The worst this world has to offer.

Senator Obama was never a Muslim. His birth father, born Muslim, became an Atheist at adulthood. He and Obama’s mother divorced when the senator was 2. He was raised in a secular household in Indonesia by his stepfather and mother. In early adulthood he became a committed Christian, and has been since.

Racism and ignorance have always walked hand in hand. I don’t know that it needs to be feared, Dave, so much as pitied, especially when such ignorance is so proudly displayed as it has been in some of these comments. They are a dying breed, fortunately, though some have the indecency of passing their mental and moral defects on to another generation. Decency and truth will always come out ahead, and one day every generation will look back on such hate and ignorance with the shame and disdain it deserves.

Dave and Terri,

If a muslim converts or becomes an athiest they are considered an apostate. I live and work in the Middle East and I read in the paper everyday stories of those who try to convert. In the country I am in the penality is DEATH. There is nothing racist about me or my comments, they are based on facts that I see everyday. Recently a man here was given 10 years in prison. His crime, coming to the aid of a women he is not married or related to. His actions saved her life, but the Sharia court did not care. By the way both the man and women are muslims. Have either of you ever been to a beheading or a stoning? They are weekly occourancies here. If you have never witnesed this brutality, then please do not quesion or assume my motives. Our way of life in the West is under attack and has been for 1400 years. I FOR ONE WILL NOT SUBMIT.

Our so called “leader” is no better then the taliban…..he is basically what I would call a “talibangelical”…looking to make this a religious country….he and his croonies are evil evil men (and women)….they have set this county back 60-70 years. The damage they have done may not be corrected in my lifetime…i do hope that is NOT the case… perhaps a great man like Obama can chip away at the damage they have done in this world…

Having been raised in GA, I know a lot about the racism that still exists in this state. There will be many voters who will not vote for a black candidate and who will not vote for anyone with a “Muslim” name like Obama. The state of GA does not matter in the grand scheme of American politics anymore, thank God, because this state is still stuck in 1864.

The rest of America is moving into the future and GA still insists on clinging to the past.

“There is nothing racist about me or my comments, they are based on facts that I see everyday”

As a Christian born just south of Atlanta familiar with the ways of racist hate. I must inform you sir That you are indeed a racist and a hate mongerer.

You might not wear your sheets in public (especially where you live)but it doesn’t change who you are. Anyone who would tries to tie a noble man and born again christian like Senator Obama to muslim extremists in order incite hatred and fear is indeed a racist.

Now as far muslims go, that garbage you wrote disguise as an insider’s view of what going on in the middle east where you live and work means nothing here in these United States of America. You and your kind have nearly destroyed the fabric of our society with your fear mongering and hate mongering.

As a former republican for John McCain I reject all that you are. This time I’m siding with a Hope mongerer? You can’t scare the people anymore. They are tired of being afraid!

Goldie, That’s kind of “soothing” in a way to hear from someone born and raised here in GA. You are SO right that GA is stuck in 1864. I learned about the civil war in school….then never paid it any mind. Once I moved here, I quickly realized that there are many many people here that won’t let it go….what do they want? Do they still want African Americans to be slaves? What makes these people tick? I have to say…..it “baffles” me! I grew up in NY. I grew up in a affluent area of Long Island….we had a very mixed community….I will be absolutly honest here….there was NO RACISM there…by best friens was African American…another good friend was Indian….we really did not care about race (at least where I grew up)…I’m not saying there’s no racism in the North….but again..I DO agree…the South is stuck in 1864…only NOW….the target for the racists seems to be those of Mexican heritage….sad to see…hopefully so many different cultures and races will move here that eventually…they will be the majority… THIS WAS NOT SET UP TO BE, nor will it ever be, a white christian nation…. Those are the ones that scare me the most….the “Talibagelicals”….they preach nothing but HATE….it’s CRYSTAL clear….they don’t even try to hide their hate….they preach it from their churches….SAD…very very sad…. :-(

I’d like to say thanks…but it’s SAD…and overall…it’s true…somehow I hope my new “word” sticks and makes it into the mainstream…..because that is what many here in this country want to be like….the taliban….they want this to be a religious country…and know what? only 2 of the 10 commandmants are law…only 2!

Good thing that GA is STILL #46 in SAT scores….but you know what? Our “rulers” here passed a law to allow the bible to be taught in HS as a history class. YEAH!…That’s what we really “need” to fix the proplem with the education here….the bible being taught….hell….that’s what they wanted right? (the talibangelicals)….so…they are raising another generation of morons…just like they are…just like themselves….so very very sad…

I think the congress center only seats 7,500. At $25 a ticket, won’t last long. They should have booked a larger venue. I’ve been noticing that the Obama campaign has been trying to keep the crowds smaller in order to connect more personally with the audience. I understand that but people are being turned away at every event. I was in Conway, SC about three weeks ago and hundreds were turn away. I think the same thing happened in New York last week as well. What’s up Obama Camp?

Trust me….the NEXT president WILL be a LIBERAL….scary to you huh? So…..what’s more important to you sweetheart? An american fetus…or an Iraqi? I ALREADY know your answer…..

we have created more “terrorists” by being there….if I WAS BORN there….and my father was killed…I’d want to get revenge…..and trust me….we’ve now got “hundreds of thousands” of kids growing up that will want…and WILL TAKE revenge…those that never would have…I have to say..I DON’T blame them…they have EVERY reason to…..

I lost my grandfather in World War II at Iwo Jima. He jumped on a grenade to save fellow American soldiers. A liberal President will be a weak President. Other countries know this and will rejoice. Most other countries do not respect women and blacks. Do you think Hillary Clinton or Barrack Obama will be respected in the international community? Terrorists would love a weak liberal President in 2008. I for one will be voting for the Republican candidate who will most likely be Fred Thompson.

Iraq did not attack us, nor anyone else…nor did they even have a capibility…..Tell me how many of the 2008 republican canidates were members of the military?….i’ll keep waiting……

John McCain served in the United States Navy from 1958-1981 with service in Vietnam; • Prisoner of war, Vietnam, 1967-1973; • Awards: Silver Star, Legion of Merit, Purple Heart and Distinguished Flying Cross. And Donna….all of the Democratic canidates (one of which is 100% sure to be our next president) have the same military experience that Bush and Cheney did when they took over. See see how well that’s worked out. YOu’re just a racist who’s afraid to see an extremely smart and gifted black man run the country (or an extremely smart woman)….one of which will be running the show in a year and a half….thank god (not that there is one…im mean thank allah….what’s the difference…they are both just characters from a fiction book….one that you take too literally)….;-)

But, we sometimes fail to really check out a candidate’s credentials; like, education, intelligence, integrity and just plain logic. But even that may not be enough these days. WE NEED SOMEONE WITH EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE OF THE WORLD AROUND US. We need someone who will be able to speak intelligently and knowingly with the leaders of the other countries so as to put us back where we were before this last fiasco of an administration happened. Obama is well spoken and seems to be a nice guy, but he’s a far-left liberal, plain and simple. I don’t care what color he is, but unless he converts to Islam and institutes Sharia Law America will remain a target of terrorists. Those who think that Bush created the terrorists simply have bought the hype and choose to ignore the repeated yet unanswered terrorist attacks in the 90s. As for who is racist, would you vote for Obama if he were white? He is saying exactly what Joe Biden and Chris Dodd are, so why prefer him and not them? Could it be the color of his skin?

What you need education on is Sharia law. When you are born to a muslim father you are a muslim. Conversions are not allowed by Sharia law and are punishable by death in most Islamic countries. It’s been less than a decade since the Clinton impeachment. Since that time we have stood as a nation politically divided and highly polarized. You either have to be a Conservative or a Liberal, Republican or Democrat. There can’t be a happy medium. Nothing in Washington is done for the good of the people or the nation. It’s all party politics and politics as usual has thrown the concept of bi-partisanship out the window and into the garbage.

It’s time for a change. It’s time to rise up with one voice and demand a president who won’t divide us any longer. Our future as a nation depends on it. We have brave men and women fighting for us abroad against an enemy that hates us and yet we remain divided at home. I don’t care what your opinion is on Iraq or the War on Terror. We might as well just bring them all home, retreat and surrender to our enemies who gather like a pack of wolves at or doorstep . We cannot achieve victory abroad in any sense without being united at home.

How do we rectify the situation? We unite around the only presidential candidate that appeals to the masses on either side of the aisle, former Arkansas Governor, Mike Huckabee. I endorse him not as a Democrat or a Republican, but as an American. He is the greatest communicator of ideas since Ronald Regan. You might disagree with Mike but at the very least he will give you a laugh and a smile at the same time. He doesn’t leave you with a sense of bitterness or anger no matter where you stand. There is not a man, woman, or child that would hate Huckabee as President of the United States. Wouldn’t that be a breath of fresh air compared to the current status quo?

How do I know Huckabee has bi-partisan appeal? While he has received the endorsement of New Man Christian magazine and the Home School Legal Defense Fund, Mike also has the endorsement of the International Machinists Union and has delighted the audiences of Bill Maher and The Daily Show. Mike’s stances on the issues go beyond political rhetoric and are admired by people outside of his party. Let’s get behind a winner and vote for Huckabee because “A house divided will never stand!” Mike is the only “Hope” for a true “United”States in 2008.

Let’s vote for Mike Huckabee and unite our nation again!

Is Obama White enough? Reading some of the comments apparently not. Maybe if he was only 1/4 Black instead of 1/2 Black. Think that would make a difference.

What about women? Women support Clinton 2-1 won over Obama. I would really like to hear from women that support Obama and why?

Note Obama & Clinton run even among men.
