The NYT looks at the Giuliani-Ailes relationship

Here’s one of the more important political pieces out there today, a New York Times look at the relationship between Roger Ailes, former political consultant and head of Fox News, and former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani.

Don’t dismiss it as a Democrat-on-Republican attack. If you’re a fan of Fred Thompson or Mitt Romney, this has got to be a concern.

Here’s a taste:

Roger Ailes and Rudolph W. Giuliani have been pulling for each other for nearly two decades.

Mr. Ailes was the media consultant to Mr. Giuliani’s first mayoral campaign in 1989. Mr. Giuliani, as mayor, officiated at Mr. Ailes’s wedding and intervened on his behalf when Mr. Ailes’s company, Fox News Channel, was blocked from securing a cable station in the city.

This year, they were tablemates at the White House correspondents dinner, which Mr. Giuliani attended as a guest of Fox’s parent company, the News Corporation.

Now these allies and friends find themselves on largely uncharted political turf. Mr. Giuliani, 63, is a leading Republican candidate for president. Mr. Ailes, 67, is head of Fox News, the pre-eminent media outlet for likely voters in a Republican primary.

Then Guilliani is our next president. Period.

There’s no way to lose when you’ve got that kind of one-two poll punch. Media ownership and Presidential Pal.

I dont care anymore. What difference does it make who the president is? Our foreign policy, as Ike warned, is controlled by outside influences. (saudis?)

After we spend on foreign policy, there’s no money for domestic policies, so who cares who’s prez?

Not me. I just want to live out my days in peace and quiet under some bridge……D’OH!

Right…If a draft-dodging, closet-queen, 9-11 committing grandson of Hitler’s banker can be POTUS, after his “can’t recall” his whereabouts upon hearing of JFK’s assassination-father was president: a Mobbed-up, married-his-cousin, adulterer Roman Catholic could hardly be any “worse.”

Who can’t “recall” his whereabouts, G.W. Bush’s father? No problem, he was in Sylvester, Ga when he heard the news of the JFK assanation. Funny how strange the truth is sometimes, huh. I guess he figured it would be easier to “not” recall than try to explain to the rest of the intelligent world where “Sylvester, GA” is. Go figure.

Why would the fact that Ailes and Guiliani are friends bother a Thompson or Romney supporter? Are you suggesting that Fox will turn into a “All Guiliani All the Time” channel? Won’t happen. Backing a specific candidate is CNN territory. And of course it won’t be a Republican.

As for Ron Paul, he’s a nut job. From today’s WSJ editorial:

“Texas Congressman Ron Paul — libertarian gadfly and current Republican Presidential hopeful — has made a name for himself as a critic of overspending. But it seems even he can’t resist the political allure of earmarks.

After reporters started asking questions, the Congressman disclosed his requests this year for about $400 million worth of federal funding for no fewer than 65 earmarks. They include such urgent national wartime priorities as an $8 million request for the marketing of wild American shrimp and $2.3 million to fund shrimp-fishing research.”

Ron Paul doesn’t believe in funding the effort to kill terrorists overseas, but he does want to promote “Wild American Shrimp”. Whatever happened to promoting “Wild American Freedom”? Sheesh.
