A Fourth of July straw poll for Republicans
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Year after year, the Fourth of July gathering by the Cobb County GOP is one of the largest in the state. On Thursday, 247 cast votes in a presidential straw poll.
To no one’s surprise, Fred Thompson — who has a fund-raiser in Atlanta on Friday — was the leader. But the fact that Ron Paul and Mitt Romney finished second and third may be significant. Possibly. It was just a straw poll.
Jason Shepherd, the Cobb coordinator of the Georgia Draft Fred Thompson Committee, sent us the break-down:
Fred Thompson: 30 percent;
Ron Paul: 17 percent
Mitt Romney: 15 percent
Mike Huckabee: 13 percent
Newt Gingrich: 12 percent
Rudy Giuliani: 10 percent
John McCain, Tom Tancredo, Jim Gilmore: 1 percent

Isaiah Washington is looking for a job. Why not put him on the ticket with Thompson? Two tough guys, one of which got Imus’ed after showing how he feels about homosexuals. How can you miss with that ticket?

Ron Paul is a surprise; also kind of surprising that Tancredo, the anti-illegal alien crusader, didn’t poll higher with those Cobb Repubs. It’s funny to watch the Fred Thompson man-crush continue; so typical of GOP voters to value style and appearance over substance.
BTW deegee, great ticket idea; the Republicans who hate gay people aren’t very likely to vote for a black man (much less an angry black man) for any office, especially vice president - “a heartbeat away from the presidency.”

If people would spend more time researching views of the candidates, the clear logical winner is Ron Paul. He is the only one that tells the truth. The rest are just puppets for the federal reserve and they (unlike Paul) are more than willing to play right into the military-industrial-congressional complex.

The fact that Ron Paul came in second IS significant, and hopefully the Republican Party will pay attention. Ron Paul is the ONLY anti-war (from the start) anti-illegal immigration candidate, and thereby the ONLY candidate that can beat Hillary. When a majority of the nation is against the war and illegal immigration, his ideas do resonate with the public. He values the freedoms of the individual over the divisive rights of groups, e.g. gays, evangelicals, etc., as provided for in our wonderful Constitution. God bless Ron Paul!

One more thought: Ron Paul has brought up the possibility of Walter Williams, a black free-market economist and writer, running as his VP. If the Republicans were smart, they’d consider this team carefully and realize its political merits.

Look for Ron Paul to speak the truth for the people, not for greed, or for fame. This is a man that cares about his family and this country; enough to stand up for what’s right and wanted after it’s been missing for many decades.

Dr Ron Paul has won all three GOP debates. He is for small government, wants to eliminate the IRS and Federal Reserve, he voted against the war and is pro freedom. He is also not a paid sock puppet like the other candidates. Look at his following on myspace, facebook, youtube, digg etc, etc….
Why should anyone be surprised he is leading the polls?

What is most amazing is the Ron Paul does so well in spite of receiving so little attention from the mainstream. It’s like his campaign just springs up out of nowhere…The kind of candidate who stands up for the Constitution and not for interest groups—for freedom, not for entitlements—THIS is the kind of man we need in the White House. Go Dr. Paul.

He cares more about the Constitution than pandering for votes. That’s why, in the midst of a public hysteria, a Republican voted against the PATRIOT Act.

The more the media excludes Ron Pauls legitimacy, the more Americans aware of Paul, will wake up about the il-ligitimacy of the media. You can not go anywhere in public, where politics are being spoken without Ron Pauls name coming up. Then, you go to watch the MSM and, it’s like being on another planet where Ron Paul doesn’t exist or is a joke. He is real and the people are very serious about the direction of our future and the, growing like wildfire support, for Ron Paul to lead it. Thanks for reporting on this Poll!!!!

Dr. Ron Paul is the only candidate running (from either party) that is pro-American. Every other candidate in the race has sold out to the multi-national corporations (like the ones that own the media) and international bankers (that are making billions financing endless wars). Every other candidate puts corporate profits ahead of the U.S. Constitution, U.S. law, the good of the nation, & the rights of the citizens. This isn’t speculation. They all have a documented voting history. It doesn’t matter if you call yourself a Republican, a Democrat, or an Independent. If you’re an American that still believes our founding fathers had it right, you need to register Republican and vote for Dr. Ron Paul. Do it for yourself. Do it for your family. Do it for your nation.

Ron Paul is NO SURPRISE. He has more subscribers on YouTube in half the time than OBAMA who is being pushed by the MSM and he has more cash on hand than McCain.
He had out fundraised both McCain and Giuliani for NH donors on his very first trip.
Paul has wide support from fans who’ve followed him for years. This is the moment we’ve waited for.

I have noticed two other straw polls across the nation held by the GOP. Paul, was third in CA, i don’t remember the other state but it was a few weeks ago and it may have been a county as with this poll but Paul was second and Paul is second again.
I’m very excited to see Paul starting to rise. I think the online polls are closer to truth just as straw polls are. The other polling methods may have worked 10-15 years ago without but it appears polling methods are changing.
All we need to see now is Paul’s ablity to debate Fred and fred will fall on his face. Fred supports the Real ID Act and a whole host which Paul opposes. It’s only a matter of time before we see that Fred isn’t a slick live as he is on TV.
We need to support Paul more then ever…. Donate, donate.
Fake conservatives will donate to Fred to maintain status quo. While freedom loving American’s will support Paul.

Ron Paul’s campaign is gaining momentum. Fred Thomas is the celebrity candidate, as thick as a thief with special interest groups. As a member of the CFR he is already heavily compromised. He has to toe the party line on Iraq and foreign policy. We need a radical shift away from the political philosphy that wastes our hard-earned taxes to prop up corrupt regimes. Enough of that, gives us back our liberty! Ron Paul 2008

I joined the GOP because of Ron Paul and have a feeling many others have done so as well. It is funny to watch the GOP fight Ron Paul when from my perspective Ron Paul is probably the only thing that can save the GOP at this point.
No pro war candidate will win the general election so Paul is the only candidate the GOP can chose that will win. People have been leaving the GOP in mass the last few years because of Bush and the currupt congress (yes I know the D’s are corrupt too!) but are coming back to rally behind a man that beleives in limited government.
Embrace him, do not fight him! Viva la Ron Paul Revolution!!!

Where have you folks been hiding? When we woke up July 4 here in St. Pete Florida literally EVERY street corner had a Ron Paul sign on it. There must have been thousands of them, all put up over night on the third. I’ve seen reports of similar events coast to coast. Ron Paul has an army of tens of thousands of dedicated, self motivated volunteers all over the country. No other candidate in the last 30 years has inspired that sort of grass roots support. He doesn’t need money. He has MeetUp. A few bucks to buy a plane ticket and a hotel room for his appearances. That’s all the money he needs. His supporters on the ground do the rest. All the other candidates HIRE support, Ron Paul INSPIRES it.

Dr. Paul has the medicine our country needs! The only honest politician running from either party. We must elect Ron Paul to put this country back on track. I just registered republican for the first time in my life so I can support Ron Paul in the primaries and so should you!!
Lets face it… most of us are reasonable people in the middle hold our noses and vote for the lesser of two evils or the one who will screw us the least. But here we have a true peoples candidate, a strong defender of the Constitution and an honest man that will correct this great countries path.
Before Ron Paul we had only more corruption and government run by special interests. No matter who wins from either party nothing really changes - you know this is true! But now we have a real choice. A real chance for true government reform.
You only have to believe and stop being apathetic and do something! Register republican so you can vote for Ron Paul in the primaries. Join your local Ron Paul meetup. Donate money to Ron Paul’s campaign. We can do it together! Save America - Ron Paul 2008!

If you haven’t heard of Ron Paul by now, you need to google him or check out some videos on YouTube.
Main Stream Media is a joke. Fox is owned by Rupert Murdoch, who owns many magazines and newspaper companies. It is in their best interest to not show Ron Paul, b/c he is against these conglomerate businesses.
Also General Electric owns NBC, CNBC, msnbc.com, and more tv stations, so they wield a lot of power. They are also one of the top 3 world’s producers of jet engines, and since the “war on terrorism”, they have had an increase in their military contract. So they have a lot of money coming in from us being at war, so it would benefit them from a finical standpoint to now show Ron Paul as much on their news shows.
Either way its pretty sick out the main stream media is operating. So we the people need to help spread the word on Ron Paul. Tell these people to check out YouTube if they want to find some good info on him.

Once people start to hear Ron Paul’s ideas, he will be in the lead. Remember how Jimmy Carter came out of nowhere in 1976? Ron Paul is about to do the same thing.

We are also looking at Ron Paul’s long Congressional voting record, his copious writings on the issues, his long-term consistency, … The YouTube and FreeMe.tv videos are the dessert. Some have their dessert first. That’s OK.

Hello ajc commenters.
Every election cycle people come along promising ‘change’ like a mantra to woo voters.
Other candidates simply aren’t credible, and most of them are already advocating defying the Constitution. Remember the constitution? That document that enumerates limited powers of the Federal Government and requires that all other functions be left to the states and the people??? Which one of the candidates would actually HONOR their oath to DEFEND and UPHOLD the Constitution?
Ron Paul.
He’s a 10 term Congressman with THE most consistent and lawful voting record in Washington. Don’t believe it? Check dis out!

Fred Thompson is a CFR man - the CFR despises the concept of national sovereignty and has been working to destroy America since its founding. (As a matter of fact, it was founded specifically FOR THAT PURPOSE - to help bring about world government.)
Ron Paul is the only candidate that can beat Hillary OR Obama. Ron Paul is the only candidate willing to strike the root of what has gone wrong in this country. He’s Thomas Jefferson material…no joke.
Still don’t know who Ron Paul is? You can meet him here: http://youtube.com/watch?v=IWfIhFhelm8

The only surprising aspect of this poll is that Ron doesn’t have 100% of the vote. I guess there is still some work to be done.

Ron Paul is actually a Libertarian who runs as a Republican. He is the only GOP Candidate who supports individual rights and the limits the Constitution places on Federal Power.

Republicans just need to mail it in this go round - they have no chance of winning anything. It will be victory for them if they lose less than 50 seats in the House and 10 in the Senate. The White House is a lock for the Dems. Don’t blame me - blame the crazy hypochristians who took over the republican party.

Ron Paul is the only republican who can win. Put anyone of these other blathering polititions up against which ever Democrat gets the nomination and they will lose; logic should tell Republicans to back Ron Paul. Something is going on in this country that can not be controled by the goverment or the media and that is the message of liberty. We are not state property. We are created in the image of Almighty God and he alone are we to serve.

I am very glad to see Congressman Ron Paul coming in second in this Georgia straw poll. Ron Paul is the best hope that our grandchildren will live in a restored American republic of peace, prosperity and liberty rather than struggle to survive in a decaying and declining empire of war, debt and servitude. Run Ron, run and win!

the most amazing thing about Dr. Paul is that he has a skeletonless closet! as the crooks and scumbags competing against him for the nomination are revealed as such, the media will try their hardest to dig something up on him. problem is, there is nothing to be dug up. he lives by the principles he espouses.
get out in the streets, spread the word like your freedom depends on it (it does) and send more money and shock the world.

A Republic represents the individual (Bill of Rights) A Democracy represents the majority (51% tells 49% what to do) The Dems want Big government (the government controls the people) ie Socialism The GOP want Corporatism (corporations control the government) ie Fascism
Ron Paul wants a Constitutional Republic Ron Paul wants the government we’re SUPPOSED TO HAVE.
Phase out the illegal and unConstitutional Federal Reserve, IRS and fiat currency.
Fred is a dog that won’t hunt, it won’t take long for everyone to see that. Nixon called him dumb, he’s a lobbyist, and he’s for continued war.

I suppose all Dr. Ron Paul needs is for someone to cast him as the President in a movie. Fred Thompson wouldn’t stand a chance against Morgan Freeman or Harrison Ford. The Ron Paul Revolution is a true, grassroots phenomenon. No other candidate - not even Obama - has an army of volunteers posting on blogs, YouTubing, phoning talk radio, waving signs, yelling and anything else they can do to get attention. The other candidates can’t buy this kind of activism, no matter how much they raise.

The thing Ron Paul supporters need to remember is over 70% of Americans have never heard of Ron Paul much less what he believes or wishes to do as our President. The only way he can win is if he gets enough cash to run advertising in the key early states and super Tuesday states. Without it the msm will suppress/attack his message enough that he will never be elected. Donate whatever you can every payday ! www.RonPaul2008.com/donate That is if you want to WIN !!! A $10+ million third quarter starts today.

Start teaching your children to spell Rudy Guiliani because he will become President in 2008. Republicans need to get on the same page and not split our votes on people that are not going to get President. Rudy was Mayor when the twin towers were hit for a reason. He can get the job done and keep the country safe. He is going to get Dem. votes and Rep. So Vote Guiliani~

Had Mayor Giuliani actually protected the city he was elected to keep safe, the Twin Towers and Bldg 7 wouldn’t have been dropped by controlled demolition. He is a mob-connected adulterer and Bush/Cheney probably had him in their confidence before their treason for a “New Pearl Harbor.” Watch Norman Mineta’s testimony of his witness of Cheney’s stand-down order if you have any interest in the truth of 9-11. Why do you think NYC’s firefighters hate him?
