Poll: Chambliss, Isakson get wrist-slap for immigration; Thompson grabs lead from Giuliani
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Strategic Vision, a Republican-oriented public affairs and polling firm in Atlanta, says it has a poll in hand showing that Georgia’s two U.S. senators, Johnny Isakson and Saxby Chambliss, have seen a slight decline in their job-approval numbers as a result of the immigration debate.
Of some 800 voters surveyed, 50 percent said they approved of Chambliss’ performance in office, while 52 percent said they liked what Isakson was doing. Gov. Sonny Perdue’s job-approval rating was 55 percent.
David Johnson, head of Strategic Vision, attributed the decline to the disenchantment of conservative Republicans.
That said, Chambliss had 55 percent margins and greater in hypothetical match-ups with Democrats Vernon Jones and Dale Cardwell in his re-election contest next year.
The three-day poll has a margin of error of 3 percentage points. We’ve asked for cross tabs, and have been told we’ll soon get them. The SV press release can be found here.
The poll also indicates that, among Georgia voters, Fred Thompson has ripped the lead away from Rudy Giuliani in the Republican race for the White House.
The field looks like this:
Thompson — 25 percent;
Giuliani — 20 percent;
John McCain — 11 percent;
Newt Gingrich — 7 percent;
Mitt Romney — 6 percent;
Mike Huckabee — 5 percent;
Sam Brownback — 4 percent;
Tom Tancredo, Ron Paul — 2 percent;
Tommy Thompson, Chuck Hagel, Jim Gilmore, Duncan Hunter — 1 percent.
On the Democratic side,
Hillary Clinton — 29 percent;
Barack Obama — 26 percent;
John Edwards — 18 percent;
Bill Richardson — 7 percent;
Joe Biden — 4 percent;
Chris Dodd, Dennis Kucinich — 1 percent.

Survey says that Georgia voters prefer a career Washington lobbyist that plays a tough guy on TV that hasn’t yet entered the race. Oh, good.

Chambliss, Isakson deserve the slap!!
Thompson will give Hitlery a run for her campaign donors’ (read as SUCKERS) money.
Every candidate has skeletons in their closet, it is just a matter of weeding out the pro commies and socialists from the field.
Thompson will clean any Democrat’s clock.
Don’t be hatin’!!

Can any FredHeads tell me what he actually stands for? Tell me what his plan and agenda are? I don’t want retroactive votes when he was in the Senate. I want what he is advocating as President.

They both get a thumbs down from me after the two of them voted “Nay” on the Clean Energy Act of 2007 this past week. Let’s stay hooked on other countries to fuel our country! Yeah! Considering GA was one of only 14 states that voted against it (it did pass), that’s pretty embarrassing. Even Alabama and Tennessee voted “Yea” on it.

Fred Thompson stands for reducing government, including entitlements, pork spending, taxes,and regulation.
He stands for beating the radical Islamists who want to kill us.
He stands for enforcing the border and the laws, and reducing the illegal population by attrition.
He stands for States Rights, and going back to our foundations: The Declaration of Independence and the Constitution.
He stands for improving our economy with trade, without compromising our sovereignty.
And he stands for listening to the American people. That’s something that most of those in Washington D.C. refuse to do.

Cindy,
Those are wonderful vague talking points with little substance. Bullet points that actually match many of the other candidates give me nothing to set him apart from the other ones running. What sets him apart? What will he do to actually carry out those fluffy talking points? I mean I can come up with those same points. Does that make me or anyone else for that matter qualified? Please give me more substance that sets him apart and shows me he’s not just hitting on focus group and poll-driven issues.

Only an ignoramus would believe that hit piece without doing further research.

I sure hope Thompson supporters can list something more than vague talking points for the guy they want to lead the US. Copy and paste warm and fuzzies are not what sets the 11th man apart from the rest of the field.

So Craig, which Democrats are you supporting again?
It is obvious you have no inclination of voting Republican, so stop trying to feign interest…..it is obvious you are a plant aka troll.

LOL. I love it how egos get bruised and people assume someone is either on the other side of the aisle or a troll. Zombieboy, let me guess. You’re a Thompson supporter - another one who cannot give any substantive reason to support him? And you cannot actually list a substantive agenda for your man? Sorry sir, but I’m not buying into this or drinking the Kool Aid. Perhaps if Thompson does actually come out with a plan I might be inclined to support him.
So zombieboy, word to the wise is to stop assuming. And another word to the wise is to actually come up with a more credible response to a challenge than “oh you must be a bleeding heart liberal because you don’t agree with me”. It is obvious you have no clue who I support or why I am actually here posting quite frequently. I find it amusing that supporters of a candidate cannot even come up with legitimate reasons they support someone. Amazing.

Am I? Sorry I asked such a difficult question. I figured someone who says they support a candidate and he’s the man to lead our nation could actually come up with some real reasons he is all of that. I mean where’s the loyalty? Can you not sell someone on your own candidate? Is it that hard? Or is it true that he has no substance and people are just so desperate for someone they’ll jump on the bandwagon because there is no one else? I’m dying to know here. Is he really that much of an empty suit you cannot come up with anything? When all you have to come back with is cute tweenie text message lingo, I wonder.

My candidate can beat up your candidate.
Wait, who did I say my candidate was?
I am an independent and can tell from your position that you feel threatened by Thompson’s tactics.
Actually quite smart, let the other candidates work over each other and come in later to take on the real villan….a Democrat.
lol

Independent? Sounds like you let others do your thinking for you. Shocking on that count. Threatened? By Fred? Not really. I just feel sorry for his supporters. They follow a guy they cannot even list his platform. But I can tell by your name you fit right in. So no I don’t feel threatened. I just think its hilarious that so many are gullible enough to follow someone who has no substance. Fred won’t be around to take on the real villain if he keeps this tactic up. Sooner or later he’ll have to take a position on something and it will have to be different than everything else. He’s no different than McCain on just about every issue - even campaign finance reform. He even passes everything off to the states. Noteworthy - don’t solve the problem, just pass it to someone else. Way to take a stand.
