Gingrich on Boortz: He leaves himself and McCain out of the ‘most likelies’ for GOP nomination
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Newt Gingrich was on Neal Boortz’ radio show this morning — and again seemed to be writing himself out of contention in the ’08 presidential race.
Gingrich named three GOP candidates he said had a chance at the Republican nomination. Significantly, he didn’t include himself — or U.S. Sen. John McCain of Arizona.
“I think the three people most likely to be nominated are Mayor [Rudy] Giuliani, who has had a great record of fighting crime in New York and changing things in New York, [Massachusetts] Gov. [Mitt] Romney, who did a great job turning around the Winter Olympics when it looked like it was going to go bankrupt, and Fred Thompson,” Gingrich said.
The former U.S. House speaker seemed on the verge of declaring himself a “Fred-head” — and noted that former Tennessee senators Howard Baker and Bill Frist are pushing Thompson’s cause.
“If Fred decides to get into this race, he will — overnight — be a major contender. He’s got good knowledge, going back all the way to when he was Howard Baker’s law director on the Watergate committee, he’s got tremendous knowledge about how the system works, he has a presence,” said the former Georgia congressman.
“He has the same advantage Ronald Reagan had of real training in television and in movies. When you watch Fred, you see a guy who’s very comfortable in his own skin.”

Hopefully we’ll have to have our Voter ID cards after todays ruling to vote in this and all other elections going forward. I know this is bad news to all the dead voters in SW DeKalb County but you’ve enjoyed your years of voting frauds, it’s time to pay now.

As a lifelong Republican, I can only say that my hope is for a Republican candidate who is actually a conservative and not a fascist. I was delighted to vote in my first election for Ronald Reagan in 1980. I voted for every Republican since…except last election. This administration has spent more money on pork than any administration in history (even deducting for the war). I supported the Afghanistan War but not the Iraq war. In an effort to save face for his father, W has managed to give us another Vietnam for this generation. Corporate CEOs are in charge of this country, getting buy in from W. Jobs are shipped overseas, foreign workers are courted to take over U.S. workers. Bill Gates says Americans don’t have the education to do the jobs he wants to fill. Don’t believe it. We have the intelligence and the experience. What we also have though is the desire to make enough money to support our families. Gates wants foreign (read: Indian and Chinese) workers because he can pay them pennies on the dollar what it would cost for U.S. workers.

JT - you don’t want a fascist, but you support a man that wants a national ID card. Can you say “show me your paperz pleeze?” Rudy is the ultimate Fascist, and Mitt wants Guantanamo to be double its current size.
The only true Republican, Conservative, small government supporter with the SOLID record to support it is Ron Paul.

Ironic that a republican would be concerned about voter fraud and likely support the Diebold systems without paper receipts.
Frankly I don’t know why anyone would take Gingrich seriously on anything. The last time he had a chance to set this country on the right track in 1994 he and his colleagues blew it. Meanwhile, Ron Paul has been voting for smaller government, the end of the Federal Reserve, the end of the Dept. of Education, and every other CONSERVATIVE position and has been taking flack from his fellow republicans the whole time.
The problem with the current other crop of clowns is that they are really afraid of what it means to be a conservative. It is much easier to get the crowd wooped up as a war monger than support truly small, responsible government that will safeguard the america that all of us once loved.
I didn’t hear the show, but I can only imagine that that worthless libertarian wannabee Boortz was fawning all over this guy as if he represented small government philosophy or something similar.

Fred will enter the as a major contender, because a whole lot of conservatives have been patiently waiting 3-4 months for him. There is currently not a conservative in the race with a chance at the nomination. The hope of Newt or Fred joining the race was based on one of them changing that. I think now that Fred has stepped in Newt is backing off.
I’d like to see a Thompson / Huckabee ticket come together before this is over with. www.toughfred.com

Instead of this slightly veiled reference to “SW DeKalb,” Ed, why don’t you go ahead and say what you really mean? Coward.
People like Ed love the Voter ID because they don’t want poor black folks to have a vote. You got your wish Ed. But you’re still a douche.
