Thompson demonstrates the advantage of non-candidacy to Romney, McCain
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Matt Towery of InsiderAdvantage is branching out into national polling, with a 1,000-voter survey of Republican voters and their presidential preferences.
Towery says the buzz over actor/former U.S. senator Fred Thompson has vaulted him to No. 2 in the GOP scrum for the White House, past both Mitt Romney and John McCain. But Rudy Giuliani still holds the top spot with a substantial lead.
The poll was conducted May 30 and 31. Note that Thompson, Romney and McCain are all within the 3 percent margin of error. Newt Gingrich was not included among the pack.
Here’s the rundown:
Rudy Giuliani - 28%
Fred Thompson -19%
Mitt Romney 17%
John McCain -16%
Mike Huckabee- 4%
Sam Brownback -3%
Duncan Hunter- 2%
Ron Paul - 2%
Jim Gilmore - 1%
Undecided/Don’t Know -8%

This firm was the only one to get the Iowa caucus right in ‘04 (look it up, see Robert Novak’s column the week of the ‘04 primary)and the ‘04. I trust them nationally and I believe it reflects the bounce Sen Thompson will get once he’s in.

Fred Thompson likeable & folksy? How about the ultimate insider? He was a K Street lobbyist for 20 years people…20 years! He left his wife of 25 years and married a girl four year younger than his daughter???

Fred can run the table in the southern primaries. If he can show strength in the Upper Mid-west, he will argue that he is the only one that can win. This will win over those who think he is too conservative.

I dont understand the interest in Thompson either…
Read about Mitt Romney as Governor of Taxachusetts at
www.SmallGovernmentNews.com
Either give me Newt or Ron Paul…we are sick and tired of all the other regular guys like Guiliani and McCain, both totally UNworthy!
Republicans are having trouble raising any $$$…its been on the radio, and they called here to a big NO last week! Radio talk shows across the country are onto it…real republicans are withdrawing! Time for a good alternative candidate who cannot be shut out by the CPD, and the electoral control.
As always, STRIVE to be SMARTER than a democrackkk*!
*spelled with 3Ks to honor the democrat heritage as the original party of slavery, as they still continue.

Thompson comes across as a real nice, home loving guy who would do all the “right” things.
For me, he also comes across as a man who was talked into running and he decided he might as well give it a try.
I would like someone with a little more “fire” in their heart about being the president of the USA. Not just meeting a “challenge” and thinking it would be nice to win.
Guiliani has “fire” and the sparks keep flying. I think he also has leadership qualities that will make him a memorable president.

How soon can we get Fred Thompson to replace GW? It can’t be soon enough! And while we are at it, do we really have to WAIT to replace our DEAF SENATORS’ Johnny and Saxby?

“Republicans Recall Thompson The Senator: “He Didn’t Like To Work Real Hard”
A lazy w, Willard Romney a flip flopper, McTemper insane, Rudy, cross dressing, corrupt, abortion lover.
Do you really want four more years of gop destroying our country?
We need honest, hard working, non corporate wh-ore leadership and the only one that comes close to this is Ron Paul.
I will vote Dem for a change in direction.

Mitt is the guy. The only knocks on him are that he’s Mormon and flip-flops. Get past that and you have the greatest candidate we’ve seen in a long long time.
Mormon issue: Non issue. His record is long enough to show it hasn’t affected his decision making negatively.
Flip flops: Abortion: flipped from choice to life, just like Reagan and H.W. Guns: No flip; Assault=No; 2nd Amend=Yes Gays: No flip; Rights=Yes; Re-define Marriage=No

Thompson is McCain minus the temper. Add to the fact he’s been able to sit out and see what works and doesn’t work. He takes that and customizes the most grassroots-friendly campaign. Must be nice to pick and choose the good and toss out the bad based on a gauntlet that already exists. It makes Fred look cheap. Of course he wants to look like the knight in shining armor. He can now hit on everything the base is drooling for. He’ll jump in and peak early only to show people that he’s more of an insider than any others running. So to those who think him the ultimate outsider, look at his resume. He’s as DC insider as you get.

If the country simply needed to be presided over or maintained, then Thompson would be a great candidate. However, this country needs fixing, turning around, fiscal discipline and leadership. Thompson’s resume doesn’t even come close in demonstrating that he could handle this. I will also add that the problems of today are more complex than ever before. Let’s pick a president that has a resume catered to what we need!
