House Speaker goes for Giuliani
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Despite Rudy Giuliani’s lead in the polls, there have been lots of questions about what kind of establishment Republican support he could muster in Georgia. Giuliani’s campaign sought to put that question to rest this morning by announcing that House Speaker Glenn Richardson would serve as Rudy’s Georgia campaign chairman.
In a conference call, Richardson praised Giuliani as a decisive leader “in a very stormy world, at a very difficult time.”
Richardson was joined by House GOP whip Barry Fleming, Reps. Jeff May, David Ralston and Jay Roberts, Sen. Ronnie Chance, former Augusta Mayor Bob Young and former state GOP chairs Bob Shaw and Rusty Paul.
In putting one question to rest, the Giuliani endorsement raised a few more. Giuliani’s campaign manager, Michael DuHaime, denied there was any connection between today’s announcement, which he said had been months in the making, and the appeal by a group of legislators, headed by Senate President Pro Tem Eric Johnson, to former Sen. Fred Thompson to jump in the GOP ring.

Just what Georgia needs and wants to succeed the draft-dodging, 9-11-committing, closet-queen we have now: a cross-dressing, Mafia-connected, Roman Catholic adulterer.

Mr. Will Jones, you sound tired today. What’s the matter?
Please, tell us what you really think about the Guilliani-Richardson political marriage.
What is Speaker Richardson selling out for?

Will Jones - great substantive, reasoned post there. Real meaningful content. Where did you get your PhD in political science? Because if you had ever taken a course in municipal govt you would know how Giuliani’s administration in NYC changed the way the subject is studied at universities all over the world.

Interesting dynamic. Will the conservative base be willing to side with Richardson over Cagle in four years now that Glenn has gone with the liberal candidate?

Better question, is Speaker Richardson trying to line something up in Washington D.C. with future President Guilliani now that his House Leadership career has flopped?

Ah, I love it… He’s a failed Speaker of the House and now he’s sold out every conservative in the state to align himself with liberal candidate for President Rudy Giuliani.
Great!
Real Republicans Govern Fiscally Conservative.

Persons of principle and character don’t waver, but Glenn Richardson is no better that a common street peddler; his wares go to the highest bidder. If Mr. Guilliani fails in his presidential bid, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Glenn talking to Senator Obama or Hillary.

Ed, you and Sonny are real funny…..Sunshine’s selling everything out the back door just so somebody will pick his sorry @ss to be Vice-President!
The most probable pairing is from a bumper sticker seen on West Paces Ferry Road:

Easy to see why Richardson didn’t go for McCain. McCain hates lobbyists and Richardson loves lobbyists or is it lobbyists love Richardson. Oops!

Ron Paul is a congressman from Texas yet his name is being excluded from the polls being taken in Texas. He has been left off the polls in 27 states. This, despite the fact that we won both of the recent republican debates.
Why are the pollsters afraid to mention his name? Is Rudy really winning?
Rudi is just another big-government political hack who is using 9-11 to improve his career.
It should be obvious to everyone that hs knows nothing about the terrorists, US foreign policy, or how to keep this country safe. Ron Paul clearly showed that none of the other 9 are capable.
Maybe if the MSM would stop fauning all over him we would get to hear some intelligence out of the other candidates like Ron Paul. America could certainly use a bit of fresh honest air for a change.

Well look at who is behind Fred Thompson in Georgia. The two leaders are Rules Committee Chairman Earl Ehrhart and Senate President Pro Tem Eric Johnson. These are two men who have been fighting to build our majority since the 80’s.
Here’s the rest who’ve gone on record: Federal Officials Former US Senator Mack & Leslie Mattingly
State Senators Sen. Tommie Williams, Majority Leader Sen. Chip Rogers Sen. David Shafer Sen. Don Thomas Sen. Jack Murphy Sen. John Douglas Sen. Cecil Staton Sen. Preston Smith Sen. Greg Goggans Sen. Lee Hawkins Sen. Bill Heath Sen. Bill Hamrick Sen. Jeff Chapman Fmr. Sen. Brian Kemp
State Representatives Rep. Ron Stephens Rep. Ron Forster Rep. Buddy Carter Rep. Burke Day Rep. Jim Cole Rep. Doug Collins Rep. Mark Butler Rep. Clay Cox Rep. Jay Neal Rep. Sean Jerguson Rep. Tom Dickson Rep. Calvin Hill Rep. James Mills Rep. Doug Holt Rep. John Meadows Rep. Tom Knox Rep. John Heard Rep. Tom Graves Rep. Donna Sheldon Rep. Melvin Everson Rep. Mark Hamilton Fmr. Republican Leader Bob Irvin Fmr. Rep. Chuck Harper Fmr. Rep. Barbara Bunn Fmr. Rep. Ted Waddle
Local Officials Commissioner Esther Fleming (Newton) Commissioner Pat Farrell (Chatham) Commissioner Jerry Brigham (Augusta-Richmond) Councilwoman Liz Hausmann (Johns Creek) Solicitor General David Cannon, Jr. (Cherokee County) Sheriff Steve Cronic (Hall County) County Executive Ben Brandon (Dade County)
And more elected officials and party activists are signing on everyday.
Fred Dalton Thompson is a candidate that can truly rebuild the Reagan coalition and he has the ability to connect with voters unlike any of our other potential candidates.
We shouldn’t make our decision by poll numbers. Once Sen. Thompson announces, I think we all know there will be spike for him in the polls. Then after 2-4 weeks, the numbers will likely stabilize.
My guess is it will freeze some of the money that might have gone to the top three for a little while. Then 1 of the current top three will likely get pushed to the 2nd tier, likely McCain, who is lagging in the polls and in the money race.
Then we get to see an interesting three way race with Thompson, Rudy and Romney.
With the way the February 5th primaries are set, my money would go with Thompson to pull it out.

Excuse me? Ron Paul won the two debates? OMG LOL… Romney won the first and Huckabee looked good in both. McCain is a goner and Giulini will follow quickly behind. Giulini would already be sinking fast if Paul hadn’t made his stupid comments in debate 2.
