Perdue on Iraq: Solve the problem yourself, or ‘keep your mouth shut’

Gov. Sonny Perdue just finished up his talk-radio session with former U.S. secretary of education Bill Bennett on WGKA (920AM), held at the state Capitol.

On his “Morning in America” show, Bennett mentioned that Perdue has been talked about as vice-presidential fodder in ‘08, and asked if the governor agreed with other Republicans who think it might be time to put some air between themselves and President Bush — specifically on the topic of Iraq.

Perdue said he did not. In fact, in Spiro Agnew-like fashion, the governor encouraged nattering nabobs of negatism to put a lid on the loose talk.

Perdue acknowledged that the going in Iraq has been tough. But, he said, “until you’ve got a better idea, keep your mouth shut.”

“This president did not choose war. He chose to protect the United States of America, and I’m thankful that he did,” Perdue said.

Here’s some rough audio from the interview.

I commend Gov. Perdue for his frank and honest opinion on the Iraq War and President Bush. The governor has given us some of the best advice from a politician I have heard in a long time.

Georgia’s governor looks and sounds very good. The governor of Kansas has shown us the other side.

Amen Sonny, You know I still remember the night of 09-11-01 when all of those two faced Democrats stood behind the President as he said this was going to be a long and costly war against terrorism and they were behind him 100%. I realized what the President was saying was true and knew we were going to have to be in it to win no matter how long and costly it would be. This is no political BS people! We must not run away like a coward and let the terrorist win! Our very way of life depends on the USA coming out on top in this thing. How soon some people forget. Those who have turned their face inside out should be ashamed of themselves! Think back now how you felt when you watched the President that night. How you felt towards the cowards that had struck the USA. Remember? Well you should feel the same way today as you did that night and if you dont you are as big a coward as the idiots who started this by flying planes into the Trade Center Towers!

Hey, Gov. Ever hear about a little pesky thing called freedom of speech? Yeah, I know it’s not really popular among you political types, especially in regards to boneheaded moves you’ve made. Who are you to tell me to “keep my mouth shut” when the Founding Fathers, those folks that created that Bill of RIghts, say we have the right and responsibility to speak how, when and where we choose? Or is it different in the state of Georgia?

Purdue is not a politician, he’s a priveliged pimp. How many times has he told people who oppose his ideas to “Shut their mouth.” He doesn’t believe in law and order or democracy, he’s one of the phony republicans who got rich off of cheap illegal labor, paying the law to look the other way and now he trys to talk tough on immigration and it’s all a front. He’s a hateful hypocrite. Mrs. Perdue- “Sonny what are we gonna do about all the pedophiles?” Sonny- “We’re gonna sell them to China for dogfood and then I’ll have all the little chilluns for myself.”

The President DID choose war. He chose war with Iraq even though the evidence linking 9/11 and Iraq were tenuous at best, non-existent at worse. When you start a war, make sure you’re actually in the right country going after the right people.

I’ve got a better idea! How about redeploying the troops in Iraq to Afganistan/Pakistan in order to get Bin Ladin and his ilk. Remember them? Meanwhile Iraq is already engaged in a disastrous civil war and there is nothing our military can do to stop it, short of adopting the tactics of terrorist, insurgents, and guerillas, which I hope we will never do.

Sonny is too provincial to be vice president of anything, except maybe the local chamber of commerce.

Sonny Perdue may well be the dimmest bulb that ever sat in the Governor’s Mansion. And that is saying something.

Bush did not choose this war? Put down the Kool-Aide — Bush and his advisors wanted this war from the moment he took office.

However even Bush admits that there is no connection between Saddam and 9/11 — as many Republicans (including on this forum and working at AJC) still believe.

But I understand Perdue’s notion about not saying anything about the problems in Iraq. Perdue doesn’t even talk about the problems here in Georgia (transportation, health care funding, etc.) so why should he talk about Iraq?

He’s too busy piddling with his tackle box cause he’s going fishing.

Freedom means “shut up!” War makes peace. Torture people to defend justice. Destroy Iraq to make Arabs like the U.S. Wiretap to protect the right to privacy. Imprison without charge to defend freedom. It all makes perfect sense—here in the U.S.S.R.

So the “war on Terror” is the war in Iraq? Whatever happened to going after public enemy number one, Osama Bin Laden? remember him? He was supposed to be the main person behind the attacks, yet nearly 6 years later, he still makes videos and we can’t seem to find him. makes you wonder what we’re really doing in the “war on terror,” which was what we all thought was the focus, NOT going into Iraq and cleaning up after Bush 1.

I have a better idea Gov. Perdue. How about let’s pull out of Iraq. We aren’t at war with Iraq and we have no clear purpose there militarily. It shouldn’t take 3 years to train a police force and military. Our purpose there is done. We toppled Saddam’s government and established another which is in the hands of the people of Iraq. Mission accomplished, let’s go home. I have yet to hear a good reason why we are still there. I’m again further escalation and our economy is no better for this enormous tax drain. “Amen SICEM – I’ll never forget that day when Saddam Hussein flew them planes into our buildings. Haven’t been that scared since 1975, when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor.”

I have seen some pretty stupid statements on this board by whacked out liberal bed wetters. But what is your point?

Did we not fight the Germans in WW2? Even though they did not bomb Pearl Harbor? Did Saddham Hussein not support suicide bombers in Israel? Was he not linked to the Trade Center bombing in 1993? Did your “God” Bill Clinton not bomb Iraq over twenty times during his administration? The world of Geopolitics gets very confused and twisted. Maybe going into Iraq was a mistake. But any “thoughtful” person would believe that losing is an even bigger one.

Billbo. I’m going to call you out too. It is a proven fact that Iraq had WMDs. He used them against the Kurds. Maybe they haven’t found any since 2003. Or maybe they were removed. Some people believe the Russians helped moved them to Syria. Wacky? Maybe, but not any more so than the leftwing nuts who say Bush 1) was responsible for 911 and 2) He is going after Iraqi Oil.

Woodie,

Thoughtful questions. My answer would be that if we pulled out of Iraq, Iran would move in and dominate the region. Take in more money from oil sales, build nuclear weapons, and attempt to destroy Israel.

On a more humanitarian note…When we pulled out of Vietnam, over 2 million South Vietnamese were slaughtered by the VietCong and Chinese. A lot of people are pressuring the UN and the US to intervene in Darfur. Maybe that is the thing to do. But why let thousands and millions of innocent iraqis die?

A good idea - I don’t pretend to understand all of the reasons we invaded, but I do know that it goes a great deal farther than simply uncovering WMD or simply “taking oil”. There were and are terrorist training programs in Iraq. To assume that because that because 9/11 hi-jackers weren’t Iraqi, that Iraq wasn’t a threat is to take a much too simplistic view. The fact of the matter is that Al-Qaeda is everyday diverting resources to Iraq to fight us there. I’d much rather the fight take place there than on the streets of New York or Atlanta. This isn’t a black and white issue. It’s complex and it calls for tough decisions. I don’t know the answers but I know what I’ve seen and what I feel. Thank you for asking an open minded question, if if you don’t agree with my answer. It’s much more than some people can muster.

JJfighter, how sad it is that you can’t make logical connections. I know it’s difficult for some to grasp this concept: one can support the troops, without supporting the leadership’s decisions. I served this country from 95-99 in the USMC and I enjoy observing people who disagree b/c it reminds me of what I served for: freedom to agree or disagree. It’s sad to see individuals like yourself not be able to grasp that concept as you belittle others for disagreeing with you. You and I did not serve for the purpose of having others forced to agree with us; we served to protect the freedom that allows others to agree or disagree with us. I’ve done plenty to earn my freedom; does that mean I have more speech rights than my neighbor who didn’t serve? Obviously not. I didn’t make a choice to serve to obtain a greater degree of constitutional rights. I served to protect them. I welcome your comment, but I expect it to be of the same caliber as the previous posts, rhetorical and illogical. Once name-calling comes into the picture (“ignorant a*”), you really do lose all intellectual credibility.

JJfighter, the fight’s not with you and others who faithfully pick up everything and go into battle when called upon. My father was of this ilk, so I’ve got the utmost respect for you cats. Rather this disdain is with those who we depend upon to use our lives, our money, and our international goodwill with the utmost care after the most introspective deliberations. The evidence overwhelmingly shows that those in whom we’ve placed this enormous trust have failed us. That failure is unwarrantingly costing us the precious lives and limbs of true heroes like yourself, and those so many innocent Iraqi victims (I think Mr. Cheney and Mr. Powell call it collateral damage); it’s costing our children decades of ‘blowback’ from those around the world who view this quite obvious overwhelming evidence and come to the conclusion that the United States’ deeds are incongruent with its words. It’ll cost our children and grandchildren trillions of dollars for decades to pay off the huge financial debts to those countries who’re financing our war debt.

So ultimately JJfighter, it’s the decision-makers (some call them desk murders) who send our troops and intelligence contractors off to ‘take out’ the Allendes of Chile (1970’s), to install the Shah Mohammed Reza Pahlavi of Iran (1950’s), to prosecute the Vietman war in the 1960’s, and to - under false pretenses - wrongly invade and occupy an Iraq in 2003 and beyond; it’s those decision-makers with whom so many take issue. The realities of the 21st century require that our ‘leaders’ realize that 20th century type ‘shock & awe’ approaches to forcing our neighbors on this planet to conform to our wishes will be wantonly ineffective, and will continue to result is drastic blowback for us and our progeny. We don’t really want that do we JJ?

Mr. Sonny is clearly clueless, but that’s not at all newsbreaking. Where are our young people on these matters? It’s your lives that are being most adversely affected by the stupidity of these so-called decision-makers. Stand up to these idiots; don’t let them ruin your futures with 19th century approaches to 21st century problems. Take back your country; take back your future.

We release all of our HARDEN prisoners (Like Churchill) and put them in the military. They can never return to our country BUT they get freedom over there in the sand, etc…WE then turn a lot of the prisons into schools, etc…save US money on taxes, etc..THEN we finish the job!

Those of you who make the argument that “Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11 so why did we go after them?” couldn’t be any more wrong in your way of thinking. You all are the same people that would have been opposed to an invasion of Afghanistan in August 2001. Or in other words, you believe it is only appropriate to defend ourselves militarily AFTER we have been struck and the damage has been done. If you believe that Saddam meant America no harm, you are deluding yourself. He may not have been involved in the planning of 9/11, but you can be sure that he cheered it on. And furthermore, it can only be assumed based upon his record that he would have continued to give any anti-West terrorist organization any and all kinds of support, including financial support. Until America gets realistic about the fact that the civilized world is going to have to set up shop and occupy many areas in the Middle East for many years, no real progress is going to be made. Living out in La-La land and pretending that there aren’t thousands of crazy Muslims that want to kill each and every one of us posting right here isn’t going to help. Overthrowing Afghanistan, leaving everything other regime in the Middle East as is isn’t going to help anything either. Progress will only be made after a few decades of direct American intervention in the Middle East. It is sad, but true. Don’t shoot the messenger.

To be blunt, what a crock from Sonny Perdue that Bush “did not choose war”. Wake up and smell the coffee, Guv - the fact that we are at war in Iraq is precisely what Bush chose. It appears that Perdue is just one more sycophantic follower of Bush and will support him to the end, no matter how many lies have to be told and no matter how many lives have to be lost in Iraq.

Bubble head Perdue and Bill (lost virtue aka the gambler Bennett), what a pair! Have either ever worn a uniform for their country? We are standing in the firing zone of a civil war in Iraq where all sides can only agree on one thing- they all hate us. Let’s back off to bases in Iraq and let the religious factions have their inevitable slug fest while we carefully relocate out. Now there’s a plan Bubble head.

So Mark, based on your logic, if I feel you are a threat to me and my family with no evidence of being able to follow through with that threat, can I come invade you home without any repercussion? Sounds like something out of Minority Report to me. I honestly feel that any real threat to this country is already on US soil unfortunately, like those guys who had planned to attack that base in NJ and the fools who flew the planes on 9/11. Now that’s the scary thing. We are over there wasting billion upon billions of dollars and human life when I think we are just adding fuel to the flame of Western and Muslim relations.

Rebecca,

The Germans did not have anything to do with Pearl Harbor either. Do a little research and you will find that Iraq had a connection with the 1993 WTC bombing, the USS Cole, etc. If you don’t understand pre-emption. That’s ok! Do you remember Bosnia? Did they attack the US. Quit being so simple minded. If you’re Democratic leaders in Congress really believed this bull crap they would have voted against war-funding in 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006. The “Bush Lied People Died” stickers were out prior to the 2004 election. Why did Hillary and 90% of the rest of the Democrats in congress continue to vote for funding? As much as I think Howard Dean is looney and wrong, at least he has been consistent.

Okay,

It’s your logic that is flawed. Terrorists and non-US citizens are not protected under the US constitution. So not sure why you would mention the Minority Report.

Let me ask you. If a child molester moves into your neighborhood. (Oh and hypothetically you have two beautiful children). Do you wait until they do something evil before you act?

We have always spent billions of dollars in forward projection of military forces (US Navy, bases overseas, etc.), so your premise that we should only fight our enemies here makes no sense. Prior to 1993, we had never been attacked on American soil.

How do we stop terrorism? These terrorist don’t wear uniforms and most are born and raised to die for their cause. This is going to become the same thing, a great idea in theory, but not really plausible.

I’m sick of the WMD argument. The Dems had the same evidence as the Republicans. It is easy now for both sides to blame GWB, but he at least had the balls to pull the trigger, unlike Clinton. If Sadam had WMD, would he use them. YES!!! I believe that this administration underestimated the resistance that is left, but do any of you folks understand that what is going on Iraq is terrorist factions trying to gain control of the state? The U.S. is trying to prevent that from happening. The war is bad, but it is being fought over there on their soil. In essence, the same type of people who are responsible for 9-11 are the same type of people that we are fighting in Iraq. And if you think that Osama Bin Laden is not involved over there, directly or indirectly, then you are really drinking some Kool Aid. Now you can say this about Sadam, he controlled those groups we are fighting now, usually by genocide. So how do you explain how how these groups are getting access to weapons??? Terrorist factions — with only one sworn aim in mind, Destroy the United States of America.

I don’t agree with everything GWB has done. I consider myself to be an independent thinker. But if you pull out party allegiance and think for yourself, then I think it is fairly simple to see what is going on other there.

Yes, the President could pull everyone out — don’t you think he cares about people think of him. But he is more interested in doing what he sees is the best for this country. Some well-meaning people have different ideas what is best, and that can be debated, but to have the animosity that both groups demonstrate hurts our efforts — just ask the troops.

If he/she is in direct violation to that, I would call the police. If he/she was not in violation, there is nothing that I can legally do. I know the Minority Report comment was pushing it. Just because we as a country have done things one way in the past, does that mean it will still work? The more and more the USA butts into other peoples business forcing their ideas and philosophies on people, the more and more people will hate us until they have just had enough and join forces to destroy us. ARTC, I am afraid it is people like you that are drinking the Kool Aid. You need to put your emotions aside, forget your personal hatred for George Bush, forget about the lost election of 2000, forget about the short term political victory that your political party needs so badly, and face the simple facts. There is no way that we will ever be able to make meaningful progress in the Middle east with tyrants like Saddam in power. I am not someone who feels that the war will begin and end in Iraq, nor Afghanistan for that matter. It is absolutely delusional to think that all we had to do was stay in Afghanistan and clean up the Taliban, and voila! Islamic fascism is over with. I have a long, laundry list of complaints that I have against George Bush and many other Republicans that I will gladly articulate. Your attempts to confine my argument to the tired old “neocon koolaid” nonsense is no surprise to me. That’s all they need to hear because as I said in an earlier post, they will die for their cause, which in this case is their religion. It never fails, politicians continue to prove my dad right time after time. As a senior in High school, I had several recruiters call my house asking me to join up. I asked my dad his opinion of it. My dad was a Vietnam Veteran. He told me that I could do what I wanted to, but he advised me NOT to join up. I thought this was very strange coming from someone who supported the Military as strongly as he did, until he gave me the reason. My father told me:

“Son, the reason that I don’t want you to join the Army is because the Politicians of this country will put you in places, and then NOT SUPPORT YOU and give you the things you need to win”

This was in 1992.

I am mad at both parties. Sit your differences aside and GIVE OUR TROOPS A BLANK CHECK! LET THEM DO WHAT THEY NEED TO WIN!

Anybody who listened to Bush and the neo-cons prior to the 2000 election knew that one of their top priorities was to eliminate means by any means, legitimate or otherwise. They considered his being in office an insult to the United States (some were quite harsh in their treatment for Bush Sr. for that reason). I never had any doubt that we would be at war in Iraq before his first term ended. That is why the excuses for the war all proved to be false when fully investigated after the fact (e.g. WMDs and the Iraq-al Qaida connection). For Sonny to say he had no choice is a frightening comment on Sonny. I hope he is more careful about what he says and does for the State of Georgia than he was in his comments on the war.

All the death and mayhem is a direct result of the corrupt and tyrannical governments that have always been in power in the Middle East. Hopelessness and misery is very contagious, particularly when flamed by a group of organized religious zealots. It is the culture of hopelessness that must be changed. In order to do that, governments certainly must fall. Once many decades have gone by, with Middle Easterners enjoying lives of moderation, progressivism, and not worrying about getting blown to shreds when they leave their homes, we will have won.

You better think again. They did it on 9/11 and they can do it again. The terrorists have said that they want to hurt and destroy americans. They said that we are a weak country and that we will pull out of the war, and when we do they, the terrorists are going to hit us hard. When a democrat gets nominated as our next president, and they probably will, the first thing they will do is pull our troops out of Iraq (against their will. Remember. These people voluntariy signed up to be in our armed forces knowing they may go to war), and then the terrorists have won. Then they will have all of Iraq to finish what they started on 9/11. You better think real hard about whose side you are on. Ours or theirs. Have a little support for your country. It’s not like you are the ones over ther fighting for our freedom!!

“until you’ve got a better idea, keep your mouth shut.”

Ok, so besides really being beneath the dignity of a sitting Governor to make such a silly schoolyard statement, Mr. Purdue’s comment doesn’t even hold up to the facts. Both houses of Congress passed a bill setting benchmarks for withdrawal from Iraq. While there are certainly some who, with good reason, do not like that approach, it is an “idea”, but one that the President vetoed. It appears that Mr. Purdue, like the President, only thinks that “ideas” have merit if they are his. Without taking sides on the issue of what to do about Iraq, I would say that the Governor, and the President for that matter, may want to pay attention to the fact that a clear and strong majority of Americans now favor withdrawal from Iraq. That may not be an “idea” that they like, but I seem to recall learning in 8th grade civics class that our elected officials are there to represent the people, not tell them how it’s going to be.

one more thing….with regard to the Governor saying that the President did not “choose” this war. Does he live under a rock?! How many former Bush Administration officials have to come out and say that the President, Vice President, and Rumsfeld were itching for this war since the day they took office? The facts do not support the pie-in-the-sky view that some people have with regard to Bush but they just keep on keeping on believing don’t they?

I can’t believe that people say “Bush started the war”; No, 535 people in the congress and senate agreed to start a war. That is an undisputed fact, so thank the 535 people that gave the American military the permission to start the war, remember that includes the democrats too. Anybody that thinks that a President on there own can start a war does not understand government or how it works. With a little education the Bush haters would have to find a different cause. But education is not on the liberal agenda. You can’t control educated individuals, only illiterate crowd followers can be lead by the socialist, I mean the liberal democratic party.

At the end of the day, all that can really be said about liberals is that they are simply wrong. People on the right generally list ways of defending our nation. People on the left list reasons why America shouldn’t or can’t defend itself. At the beginning of the war, it was “Saddam didn’t attack us, we have no right”. A few years later, it was “there is a civil war in Iraq, we need to leave”. Now, it is “the war on terror is unwinnable”. Democrats have consistently undermined every step that has been taken against Islamic fascism in the past 6 years. Short-term political victory is what is at stake here. To you democrats here on the board: just know that it is most likely that your Democratic leaders do not really believe what they are feeding you. They would (I hope) be far too smart for that. Just remember that you all are merely pawns in the fight to get a bunch of liberal elites back in power. You are all just simply wrong.

Ted P - You actually make some very good points about Congress approving the war. But..then you get into the liberal Democrat = socialist stuff. That’s as constructive as the liberals who go off calling Republicans fascists. Neither analogy works for anyone who knows anything about socialism or fascism.

Sophie - The US Army is happy to accept female enlistees these days in case you weren’t aware and I’m sure would benefit from the services of someone as deeply patriotic as you. I would also encourage you to do some research and about the really wonderful work done by President Carter to help the world’s needy and then criticize this good Christian man for putting his faith into practice.

Non Bandwagoner - As I stated earlier, the elected representatives of the American people in the US Congress (which in case you’re not clear is a CO-EQUAL branch of government along with the Executive Branch and the Judiciary)did present an alternative idea yet it was rejected outright by the President. You may not have thought it was “better” but it is supported by the majority of the American people. But I will digress on that and ask you…What is your “beter idea”?? Clearly what’s being done isn’t working, so what would YOU suggest be done since you think you know better than the Congress and the majority of your fellow citizens? I would be curious to hear.

You’ve got to be kidding me another chicken hawk chimes in on Iraq. The Democrats have said what to do with Iraq. GET OUT!

Fighting in Iraq is not making us safer it was an optional war because Iraq was contained. No doubt Iraq was about oil and getting as many US bases established in the Mid East to protect that oil.

Everyone predicts that it will get worse in Iraq if the US leaves. Just like everyone predicted that Iraq had WMDs, right? The bloodletting will happen if the US is there or not, but at least if we leave the lives of the few brave Americans that are paying the price for this failed policy will be saved.

Now had we spent $500MMM on killing Bin Laden, defending our borders and developing alternate energy sources we would be much safer right now.

Dan said, “You crazy democrats. You just don’t get it. The reason we are in Iraq is to “protect america”. What? You don’t think that the terrorists have the power to attack us on our home field.”

We need our troops here to protect our southern most border. We are being infiltrated by a force larger than the fanatics in the Middle East. They are destroying the jobs of Americans, raping & killing our citizens on our own land. Bring home our troops so they can protect the United States of America. Here is where our priority lies.

I think President Bush and his administration owe the American people an explanation for why they went to such great lengths to sell, yes sell, the invasion of Iraq based on false data and the threat of WMD. Once we get that explanation, perhaps then it will be justified to ask us to let the situation work out. But since the President has put troops in harms way for apparently no good reason, he does need to answer some tough questions. Best thing for Republicans to do is distance themselves from that goofball as fast as they can.

Believe me, terrorist are not only in the Middle East, so saying that we went into Iraq to protect our freedom and fight the war on terror is a bunch of bull. There are terrorist that live right here in America and probably more to come. There are more than likely terrorist setting up shop in Mexico, and you know how easy it is to get here from there. So explain to me again how exactly we fight terror. And no, I have no idea of how we win an unwinable war with people we can’t readily recognize. So I should just shut up huh? How is the hunt for Osama Bin Laden going? You know, the 911 mastermind, biggest serial killer in the history of the United States. The guy who is NOT in Iraq, and never has been.

To imply that Bush is protecting us by invading a country that was not even involved in 911, and thereby driving even more deranged muslim extremists to want to kill Americans is just plain silly. The fact that he couldn’t even plan for the post-war occupation of the country is just insulting.

I would like to think of myself as a independent thinker because I take the facts given to me and form my opinion based on that, not because somebody tells me to think that way. But we will see who was right in a few years when many of are military are either injured or dead and we are broke. Now that will be easy pickings for terrorist. Watch and see!!! If and when the democrats take office the world will be more messed up than it is now. They degrade our country and the way it is run, but have no solutions on how to fix it. All of you shut up unless you have a feasible solution to the war in Iraq. Sonny said it perfect. All of you democrats can open your big mouths, but have nothing smart to say. Keep on saying what has been done wrong. It will never solve anything!!

How do you fight Islamic terror? Here’s how:

First, you establish a realistic portrait of who your enemy is. In this case, it is poor, uneducated, impressionable, hopeless Muslims in the Middle East.

Second, you look for the reasons for the hopelessness experienced by the enemy. In this case, the reasons are political oppression, topped with control by religious fanatics who preach that the free West is the root of all the suffering experienced by the Muslim world, when actually it is their own oppressive governments.

Third, you carefully eliminate, whether through military means or political means if possible, some or all of these oppressive governments that are contributing to this culture of hopelessness, death and violence. You replace (or at least attempt to) these governments with more moderate governments that understand that they have the full, unwavering support of the west.

Fourth, you get realistic about the fact that the shift toward a more progressive and moderate culture within the Middle East will take many years, if not decades. You do not lose your nerve after only 4 years, but instead stand side by side, as partners, with Muslims who want to live in a moderate, progressive society.

Fifth, you give them the moral support that they need. You do not engage in retroactive arguments about the legitimacy or necessity of our actions, but instead, deal with the present, and convince the people in the occupied countries that we will be with them through the trying times that are ahead. Pointless domestic arguments about whether an invaded country should be a part of the war on Islamic terror should be replaced with the sober acknowledgment that this invaded country where all the fighting is going on IS the war on Islamic terror.

Sixth, you work closely with legal authorities in the region, and give them every bit of support they need in establishing a place that is run by the rule of law. Give the local police every bit of authority that they need to go after terrorists, or even would-be terrorists. Send a signal to the country that “if you kill or try to kill, you will pay dearly”.

Last, you do not leave or give up on the fight until people stop mindlessly killing each other. Do not give up until Middle Eastern civilization and culture is a bastion of progressive and moderate ideals, a place where right prevails over wrong, and where people reject death and oppression, and fight for truth and moderation.

I agree with Elizabeth. The Iraq war is and never was about terrorism. We’ve now spent over 1/2 trillion $ on enriching the cronies of Bush. We can all only dream about the good that kind of money could have been allocated to. I do not have to “shut up” just because some average Governor says I have too. What exactly are Sonny’s ideas to solve the issue?

Uhhh… actually I’ve heard plenty of people suggest alternatives to the way President Bush has decided to conduct the war in Iraq, including many of us who thought weought not to start a war there in the first place. Sonny and his like-minded brethren have an automatic rebuttal to any idea that doesn’t involve staying there. And for the clever folks who link Iraq to the war on terror, we could create many more fronts in the war on terror if we choose. We could even bring Kenya into the war on terror if we were to repeat the same actions we’ve taken in Iraq.

There is NO WAR. The war ended four years ago with “the end of major conflict”. If there is no “major conflict”, then there is NO WAR. All that we’re trying to do now is stabilize a region where the residents hate us only slightly less than they hate each other. Please get us the heck out of there.

Bush is an idiot.

Sonny is too.

The War is crumby. My brother is fighting for a cause long lost in a line of false promises of connections as false as the financial statements at the Perdue household.

Radical militant republicans have driven us in a course of destruction and a sure pathway towards global isolation by lying to the American public as for the reasons for war. But thats okay, because as long as we buy in to their latest reasoning, we shall continue to spend our tax dollars on a labyrinth of mistakes and misguided reasoning.

Wake up America. Islam is not the problem, hatred is the problem. The same hatred that you have for dem ol’ towel heds who fluw dem playnes intwo the towerz! is the same hatred they have for the fat american populous who would rather watch American idol than vote in local elections. Freedom isnt free, but neither are those text messaging fees that failed poor Sanjaya.

Its not left and right people, its right and wrong. We’ve made wrong decisions. Lets correct ourselves, and actually act like the beacon of hope that we pretend to be. Every American is born with the right to free speech, and that includes Sonny. But many men, much smarter than he have thought of much more enlightened things to say than his little jab comment.

He’s a great candidate for the Vice Presidency. A regular Hawking compared to Cheney. Now if the GOP could find another puppet like W to be maintained by his excellency Perdue…the democratic party would be a lock victory.

Keep your religion out of my dinner table. God may bless your America, but not mine. My children were born free of a ‘loving’ religion that blesses this god-forsaken war every day. If you beleive that an omnipotent God wants death and destruction, and gave our current leaders…such as Sonny to the public as a gift…then you should ask, What would Jesus do?

Not fight a war, my friend. He’d probably use the money to actually fix the problems at home…haha. Wow, what a novel concept.

Rant over.

As a Georgian, let me say that Perdue is a joke. A “Republican” joke.

First off, I want to get some of these comments retracted by saying if you did not vote, which I know there are some, you have no right to say anything for or agaisnt the war in Iraq, Bush or Perdue. You know who you are. Second of all, We are defending our country!! Do not forget we were the ones who were attacked!! It is about fighting them there, including in Iraq and yes Afghanistan!! We have troop at both locations looking for terroists in Iraq and Bin Laden. I have family at both locations and they know the truth. Not the false truth that is put on the media each day to meet their materail to drive ratings. Believe it or not we are winning this war and making progress you just do not know because the media does not show it. If they showed that their ratings would not go up. That is why they show what they want to show!! They are about ratings!! My best friend’s brother has been in Afghanistan for 3 years deactivating all the bombs that the taliban is leaving in caves while they are looking for them and Bin Laden. Oh by the way, if you read the official 9/11 report, not the Micheal Moore version, you will see that the materials were present to make weapons of mass destruction. It is just like a cake. If you have the flour, eggs, sugar, and icing you have the ingredients to make a cake! The same was found in Iraq for the ingredients for mass destruction!! Oh yeah, Hussein was financing everything the Taliban was doing!! Get your facts straight and quit being decieved by the Michael Moores of this nation!! I applaud Perdue for speaking truth!! A job well done!! We need more people in office like Perdue who are willing to stand for what is right even the Michael Moore’s of America are dumb and have no clue what they are talking about!!

Marks, many things that you say sound feasible except for a couple of things that I don’t agree with: One, you are stereotyping who the terrorist are. So we go kill all poor, impressionable, homeless Muslims? Secondly, just concentrating on the Middle East is not all we should do, as I said before, terrorists are living in other countries besides the Middle East. Also, the civil war in Iraq has been going on for so long, I don’t think they are going to stop killing each other because of something we do. This is just my opinion and even though we don’t agree on everything, I commend you taking the time to think about it and form a strategy and that’s more than some people have done, including my self because as of right now, I don’t see a plan that will work. Maybe in the future, my mind will change.

Seriously now. We have no reason to be in Iraq. Saddam’s government is gone. Iraq has a government now. Why are we still shooting at Iraqis? Why are they shooting back? We need to leave them be so they can begin to rebuild their lives. All we are doing is agitating the entire planet. It doesn’t take massive troop deployments and over 3 years to train police and military. Our boot camps are only 10 weeks. They hand you a rifle and point at where to shoot. How much training does that involve? The Iraqis are perfectly capable of pointing a gun same as an American soldier. In fact, the Iraqi army probably knows who to shoot, whereas the American troops are more likely to shoot anyone who looks funny. I’d much rather see the Iraqi’s take care of their own problems.

Okay, you are exactly right, I am stereotyping who the terrorists are. I said nothing at all about killing every poor impressionable Muslim. I did, however, say that we should make every effort to replace the culture that created their hopelessness and hatred.

We should certainly focus our efforts on the Middle East. That is where this culture that we are fighting originates. You should be the first to admit that just because a terrorist has moved from the Middle East to China does not give us a right to go invade China.

Last, my compliments for admitting that you have no idea how to solve the problem. I would urge you to give the troop surge time to work, and never accept chaos in Iraq as a feasible alternative. I would also suggest that you take everything you hear or read in the media with a grain of salt.

If you would get your nose out of Bush’s back side you would be able to see how stupid he really is. This war is another Vietnam and unwinable.

We would be better off if we would spend all of these billions of dollars at home on trying to protect our people.

You know our ports and borders, our food supply yes! inspectors to inspect what goes into the food we human eat its bad enough we are killing off our pets but now it is in the human food chain too.

Regarding SICEM and his comment. Oh, yea buddy, 9-11-01 happened and things changed forever. What world do you live in? Buddy, things happen and people react to them, but it doesn’t mean because you feel one way one day you will forever feel that way. Sure, that makes perfect sense to a delusional individual, but not to a sane person. Bush decided to attack Iraq, a country that did not attack the US on 9-11. You come across as a complete imbecile with your comments. Figure out why we are in Iraq still? Saddam is gone. There is a civil war going on now. In general the fight is over the oil. Sonny is such a pitiful joke. Is he even still the Governor of Georgia? I haven’t seen anything of him in several years it seems.

I agree with Rebecca (way up the list). I have never thought Bush went to war for the oil. He was bent on going to way against Saddam before he was even elected. It is clear to me that he doesn’t even have any interest in the Iraqi oil…..it was all because of his father. He wanted revenge and was going to make up reasons to invade Iraqi and get even for his Dad. He involved this entire country in his desire for revenge and has cost 3,000 mothers their sons and daughters because of his desire to “get even”. He is a sick individual. No US President, until him, has ever made a decision based on personal feelings for revenge like W did. Other Presidents have made decision based on gathering the facts and analyzing the pros and cons of any decision. W just went into war blind to the easily foreseen consequences. He didn’t want to know about them. He just wanted revenge. He is pitiful and shameful. His deeds have hastened the downfall of the US in the world’s eyes. Look to China as the next superpower. If we cannot defeat an unorganized group of rag-tag hoodlums and have run our of men in our army and are straining our army….how can we ever imagine having to defend against a billion Chinese one day in the future?? The US’s best days are behind us.

They can’t even come up with a solid exit plan for a war created by a Republican administration that never considered the fact that civil war was a possibility in a country whose boundries were developed by the west with no consideration for centuries old ethnic hatred 60 years ago during yet another republican administration’s solid thinking. Bush is paid $400,000 a year to have ‘the better idea’. For five years he has had the mightiest fighting machine ever known to man under his command and he has been manhandled by a guy who lives in a cave - a man who dropped our towers five years ago and still breathes.

There is no greater abuse of the welfare system than the 400k paid yearly to this president.

Thats the best response you can offer? You’re even more pathetic than your previous post indicates - which is quite a feat. Congratulations. As compelling an argument as you make I think we both know it’s more likely the fact that you get your perspective from TV and haven’t read a book since your liberal English teacher was grading you on your reading comprehension skills (D+)right before you dropped out of high school leading to those foreign b******* taking YOUR job while you were nodding to the talking heads on radio/TV. Ladies and Gentlemen, I am disgusted with what I read in this blog. It amazes me how fast President Bush haters turn the argument into truckstop bathroom scribble. On the other side, the argument of serving is impetent and does not elevate your point (or lack of). I can say that since I have gone three times. If you really want someone to contemplate your comment, take the time to carefully compose your thoughts. Don’t type angry. Some classes in international relations or strategic studies will help. Most of the comments in this blog are very shallow and don’t even touch on the real issue. USA is the first modern day hyperpower. What comes with that status is our far reaching influence. Why, because we can. Get over it, we are no longer pre-WW isolationists. We have the world’s best economy and a commodities consumption to match. Even though we do not import a large percentage of our oil from the Middle East, stoppage of a free flow to other states impacts us directly. Any President, no matter from what party, will defend our way of life. If he does not, he losses his job and his party suffers. Any argument to surrender or redeploy from Iraq, whatever you want to call it, is non-sense. We will be in Iraq for at least 50 years. The key now is to provide enough regional security until the Iraqies unite. If we run out of political time, look for a divsion of Iraq into three autonimous states. That comes with its own issues but might be the only way out of the monkey show. Thanks for reading, now get back to throwing your mindless poo!!!!

Liberals are so dumb they fell for that old republican trick of balanced budgets and deficit reduction becoming the party of fiscal responsibility. Fools. The key point of their stupidity can be traced to their ridiculous belief that in the wealthiest nation on earth everyone deserves quality education and health care. Old people should not have to choose between medications and food! Can you believe this craziness? This concept is so laughably stupid. We all know that spending money that could have been used to aid a crumbling Social Security system was much better served supporting the death of American Citizens in a region with no interest in western ideals. Dumb liberals - if we didn’t enter this war for revenge and oil we would be paying gas prices 3 times what they were prior to the war with price rises well outstripping healthy economic inflation. Stupid liberals.

I am tired of hearing that its the 21st century and that we should not be over there because of all the killing that is going on. I am tired of hearing of people saying it is wrong over there for each other killing and sometimes our own soldiers killing each other. HELLO! There is killing going on here in America everyday!! IT IS ABORTION. Why should an innocent babys who have no choice. That is legalized murder! How wrong is that! These babies need people to rise up and defend themselves. Go to you tube and search for the silent scream and watch it. Only if you dare to watch and innocent baby scream for its life! I do not think the liberals have the guts to watch it. Now with the war, Liberals wake the freak up! Quit trying to watch out for your own group and trying to make your group look good. Our country was hit by terroism and you want to back out from the war? Are you serious? Quit being brainwashed by Michael Moore and all his liberal friends. Contrary to his 9/11 report the real 9/11 report both from America and England found ingredients to make weapons of mass destruction and you want to pull out! Sure lets do it the liberal way and let the terriosts win the battle. Who cares that they attacked our country. Lets welcome them back and let them do it again. That is what is going to happen if we have a liberal president. Awake yourself to the truth and quit letting the fellow democrats deceive you. I have friends and family in all branches of the military fighting the war in afghanistan and Iraq. They are fed up with the liberals and democrats lying to the american people! I praise you Bush and Perdue for doing what is right not would be popular. There is the difference between Republicans and Democrats!!

For too many years Americans have chosen to be blissfully ignorant of things that don’t appear to directly affect us on a daily basis. We are incredibly apathetic of what is going on in the rest of the world, even when technology and global economics has effectively shrunk the world. Our public education establishment had been a total failure teaching American students about the history of the US, so World history is out of the question. What happens on the international scene effects us at home.

Well we cannot get away with it any longer. We can no longer be complacent and think that if we ignore it and it will go away. We have to be brave enough to look at reality and not just simply imagine it to be the way we want it to be. We have to be strong enough to tell the truth and accept the truth even thought it may be painful. We must be willing to tell the truth even if it is politically incorrect and may offend some group or someone’s sensibilities. Being brave means being willing to recognize that we have and will make mistakes and that we must be willing to deal with them and make every attempt not to repeat our mistakes. Being brave is being willing to change. Being brave does not mean sitting on the sidelines and letting others carry the load.

We must be smart and that means being informed. We must understand what is going on. Being smart means we don’t always accept what we are being told. Being smart means that you can identify b****** when you hear it. Freedom of the press should be coupled with responsible reporting. If we do this we will come to realize that who is in charge does matter. Take charge of you own destiny by getting involved- it’s tough stuff for yourself and for your children and their children. bE IT JOHN Q.OR Sonny Perdue.

Remember “We the People” are in charge!

Titan - I certainly respect your service. I am curious about 2 of your comments:

1 - Your suggestion of Strategic Studies. I imagine that all members of the decision making cadre in Iraq have attended West Point and/or The American War College. Please forgive my impertinence but this education does not appear to have served them very well in the morass that is Iraq. My gut feeling is that deployment and Strategy is being provided by the Joint Chiefs - but only to the extent of protecting their jobs by pleasing their boss. I hope to God I am wrong on this but “strategic thought” and Iraq do not seem to go hand in hand. I do fully agree with your dividing of the country but the inequity of oil wealth by ethnic region makes this difficult at best.

  • America as the strongest Economic system on Earth. Yes we are the world’s largest consumer. We are no longer the leader in key growth industries based upon science and math. Our debt load on both a personal and national level is rotting this system from the inside out. Despite a weak dollar philosophy (one I must state I am in agreement with) The US has been unable to cut into horrendous trade deficits with the large majority of our trading partners. Unfortunately this is not new (we are 25+ years into this)and the trend is expanding.
  • The US cannot afford a 50 year stewardship in Iraq on many levels. You are suggesting a time period 8-10 times the length of reconstruction in Europe in WWII. Not only are the logistic issues dissimilar from this time period, we are working with people who have millenia of distrust and hatred for western ideals - Rome/Persia conficts - Alexander/Persia etc. This war has been a wasted effort for what is shaping up as a more necessary action - Iran. All we have done in this vacuum is shift the balance of power to the more oppressed and vicious Shiite people (with all due apologies to secular muslims). As awful as Saddam was - and he was one evil SOB - we have made the world more unstable in his removal. I have a hard time thinking of this as “strategic”.

Ummm… If Iraq didnt have WMD… exactly what would you say killed all those Iraqi people that Saddam buried in mass graves?

    Hmm

But you know what.. for me… this war was never about the WMD in the first place.. and never should have been. It is and should have always been in the first place… about the Iraqi people. Plain and simple. That country has been an utter hell long before this war began.. and it was because of the regime.

I hoped and hoped that we would have found another way and avoid war altogether. When I was pressed on what that “other way” would be… I didnt know. Had no idea. I still am not 100% positive we excercised every alternative, but then again, I dont have every detail either and we never will.

As for Perdue as a VP candidate… PPFFFT… rrrriiiiiight. Wait till someone calls him out for his comment in a debate against Roy Barnes and his tacky question about foster children. Umm just how much better have foster children been under Perdue’s watch? We surrrrrrrre have heard about alot of drama with various DFACS here lately. How many children have died and/or continued to be abused? Id be interested to see if there was any significant change under the Perdue regime. (nudge nudge nudge)

Your “friends and family” in service (which makes you incredibly unique)? Recruitment levels are so low that standards have been lessened - perhaps you can help fill this void and go cave to cave to get Bin Laden or police neighborhoods in Basra furthering the protection of our beloved home land? Lastly - Our concern with making our own group look good? I give you John Kerry. We must not be that concerned with image when this is the most recent face of the Democratic party. Abortion - get back to me when your pregnant. Lastly, your 9/11 report crutch - I am sure you fully digested that document and can quote chapter and verse? Let’s discuss the section of culpability and the previously provided intel on “chatter” in the events leading up to this great tragedy, in a city I was living in on the day it occurred with friends personally impacted by this event. WH, We are in violent agreement on many of your comments. Actually most military officers attend public colleges or universities. In the normal career path, a military officer will attend several military schools. Do not confuse becoming educated in IR or SS with having the ultimate decision making authority. There is only one Commander-in-Chief. JCS recommends to the C-of-C. The main issue in this Iraq mess is that it is very complex. Read General Frank’s book about the build-up and invasion of Iraq. The take-away is that Sec of Def Rumsfield forgot who were the military experts. Rumsfield’s scaled down plan will ultimately be the downfall. We had our window of opportunity to secure the country but did not have the manpower.

Since WWII the price of oil has been tied to the almighty “dollars” which gives the U.S. a great advantage because the fluctuation of the dollar has had relative little effect on the price of oil but even more important is that oil-importing countries need to have a supply of dollars to purchase oil – petrodollars. If suddenly the price of oil is tied to the euro instead of the dollar the effects to the U.S. economy would be devastating. Countries would dump U.S. dollars causing it to devaluate to unimaginable lows and the price of foreign goods would escalate. A devalued dollar would significantly increase our foreign debt and the U.S. would have no influence with OPEC. Suddam Hussain declared that he would no longer take U.S. dollars in 2000. The threat that other oil producing countries might do the same is a contributing factor why we went to war with Iraq. Within weeks we were in Iraq. I’ll bet no one told you that is why we went to war with Saddam! “Petrodollars vs. Eurodollars”.

Lee to your point - Foreign Nationals have already begun to divest in the Dollar. The rise in US interest rates has as much to do with the rate of return vs. the Euro as it does a statement of the robustness of the US economy. The US will always (forseeably) hold trump in that a vast majority of goods produced world wide are consumed here - An American collapse would destroy the world’s economy. The old statement was is the US catches a cold, Japan gets Pneumonia - Players shift but theory remains. Additionally, China pegs its currency to the US (Yes I know there is a “bucket” of currencies) The combination of these 2 economies tied so closely together effectively negates US economic collapse (forseeably) On top of this the Saudis, and other Gulf Allies, want American Military technology - this also contributes to OPEC making decisions based beyond the “true economics” of currency. OPEC statement is conjecture and my opinion.

I do not agree with our governor. I think all americans have a right to express their opinion, popular or otherwise. I wish republicans would stop trying to link the “War on Terror” with the issue of Iraq. Sadam Hussein never hit the world trade centers with any planes or bombs. Thats not to say he didn’t want too, But that is Bush seniors fault for not finishing the jobe in 91. Don’t use 9/11 as a catalyst for starting a war. Donald Rumsfeld was in Juniors ear the moment he took office about going to war in Iraq. Watch and reflect on the media surrounding the patriot act. It was only three days after 9/11 that false connections between Al Queda and Iraq began to surface. Oh yeah where are all these WMDs that we were going to rid the world of anyway. What have republicans given to the country over the last 7 years besides an outrageous national deficit. I know personally we have done nothing for educaiton. I can speak from personal experience on that one because I work in the public school system. This country needs to get back to the Clinton era. I hope this puts the WDM counter arguement to bed once and for all. This is exactly what I was refering to when I states earlier that “we the people” need to arm ourselves with the truth.

Saddam’s weapons of mass destruction existed and they were moved into Syria. There is more than enough evidence to bear out this reality. General Georges Sada, the former Iraqi Air Force commander in January 2006 elaborated on these realities during a Congressional House Select Intelligence Committee closed door hearing, chaired by Peter Hoekstra (R-MI). Sada also tells about the 20 tons of Serin gas that the Syrian government conveniently let slip through their hands into that of terrorists that attempted to release the gas in Amman, Jordan. Luckily the Jordanian intelligence thwarted that attempt to kill everyone within an 18 mile circumference.

I can personally attest to these facts having heard Generals Sada’s lecture in America subsequent to the noted Congressional hearing. General Sada also stated that the media has advised him that they will not publicize his statements because that would make Tony Blair and President Bush appear correct from the beginning. All these facts are available to the public in General Sada’s book “Saddam’s Secrets”. To bear evidence here are exerpts from the Fox News, January 25, 2006; SEAN HANNITY & Co-Host: Now Iraqi General George Sada is breaking his silence with a new book, “Saddam’s Secrets.” He joins us for an exclusive interview tonight.

SADA: Well, I want to make it clear, very clear to everybody in the world that we had the weapon of mass destruction in Iraq, and the regime used them against our Iraqi people. It was used against Kurds in the north, against Arabs — marsh Arabs in the south…

HANNITY: Where were they? And were they moved and where? SADA: Well, up to the year 2002 they were in Iraq. And after that, when Saddam realized that the inspectors are coming on the first of November and the Americans are coming, so he took the advantage of a natural disaster happened in Syria, a dam was broken. So he — he announced to the world that he is going to make an air bridge… which went largely unnoticed because they were flying under the guise of humanitarian aid. HANNITY: You know for a fact he moved these weapons to Syria?
SADA: Yes. HANNITY: How do you know that?
SADA: I know it because I have got the captains of the Iraqi airway that were my friends, and they told me these weapons of mass destruction had been moved to Syria. BECKEL: How did he move them, general? How were they moved?
SADA: They were moved by air and by ground, 56 sorties by jumbo, 747 jets were moved, after they were converted to cargo aircraft, they were moved to Syria. BECKEL: So I assume this would not have happened without the permission of Damascus. Is that correct? SADA: Well, of course, you know, when the aircraft would land in Syria, they must have some sort of agreement between the two.
BECKEL: So the Syrian government knows exactly where these weapons are today?
SADA: Yes. Am I the only one whom wrote his congressman and got documentation of the Senate Intelligence hearing?

April 26, 2004;AMMAN, Jordan (CNN) — Jordanian authorities said Monday they have broken up an alleged al Qaeda plot that would have unleashed a deadly cloud of chemicals in the heart of Jordan’s capital, Amman. In a series of raids, the Jordanians said, they seized 20 tons of chemicals and numerous explosives. U.S. intelligence officials called the capture of tons of chemicals that together could create several large conventional explosions “a big deal. At least 80,000 people would have been killed,” the commentator said. Al-Zarqawi “is the terrorist” who plotted this operation.”

If you are still not convinced, I have nothing more to say.

The faster that Southern conservatives realize that the Republicans have been and always will be hostile to them and their interests the faster that Southern conservatives can go back to the Democrat party and liberate it from the Marxist insanity that grips it. Purdue wants us to shut up until we have a better idea. How about this. Support our troops by giving them the equipment they need to do the job and bring them home.

Bush did not protect the US by going to Iraq. He turned a non terrorist state into a terrorist state in civil war.

Reports of the GOP’s death are greatly exagerated. Newt’s New Republican Party is only a little Green around gills because of envy - envy of Democratic Poll numbers.

Green is the color of the bile that GOP bellow-radio hosts spew.

Green is the color of the no bid GOP defense contract profits.

Green is the color of the grass over the graves in the cemetaries of those who gave their last full measure of devotion……for Iraq is a war of the administration, by the adminstration and for the administration, and it tests whether any war so ill-conceived and so hastily dedicated can be long endured……

Thats why he is the 1st republican governor in 50 years. He says it the way it is. I don’t agree with everything he says but atleast he says what he feels. Most people who don’t like what he says probably doesn’t like the war so no matter what anyone says they are going to bad mouth them. Look we are in Iraq and we have to win. If we leave we will be in bigger trouble.

“This president did not choose war. He chose to protect the United States of America, and I’m thankful that he did,” Perdue said.

What a complete idiot. This President ABSOLUTELY chose war and manufactured evidence just to make sure we did go to war. In no way is this country any more protected than it was before the war started and more likely, we’re in worse shape. Look at the tornadoes last week where 60% of the emergency vehicles and equipment are in Iraq instead of right here.

With any luck Bush will be arrested for the murder of over 2,000 great American servicemen as soon as he leaves office and if Sonny feels so strongly, he can serve right alongside Dubya.

Yea…we have given up the search for bin Laden…that is exactly why the US has roughly 25,000 soldiers still in Afghanistan. If you want to find bin Laden then you can go do it yourself.Join up with Blackwater and go get him. But until you go do somethin better, stop criticizing. Bush went into Afghanistan to find bin Laden and to free the Afghans from Taliban rule. He has done one of those things. You wanna know the main reason he prolly has not found bin Laden. Because of the idiots at CNN and in the NY Times who have to tell every little thing the US does. Then, because Bush was given reason to go into Iraq(Saddam did break his promise by not letting UN inspectors in and he was very willing to not say no about WMDs),Bush went into Iraq. Hmm…what a failure Iraq has been! The Iraqi people were allowed to vote in free elections for someone without the fear of that person killing them!Geez we have really failed!I mean…the Iraqi govt is stabilizing, they are building a police force!Geez we have done terrible. The number of people the US has lost in Iraq is less than the number the US lost in some battles!and guess what…the American people did not back down! They supported their Pres and their troops!I thank GOD for the troops who have fought and sacrificed their time/life or both for the US but also for those in other countries that dont have the same opportunities!God Bless the USA and the troops!

    Hey Sonny,

You shut up. And for the rest of you knuckleheads…there is NO connection between Iraq and 9/11. Do you listen to the news, the CIA or even the 9/11 study commission. Until Sonny starts sending his children to die in Iraq, he should go himself. All the rich Republicans are worried about is the stablization of oil prices. But believe me whoever is in charge will want to sell it. They can’t eat oil. Better plan? Bring our sons and daughters home.

A couple of days ago in a meeting with moderate Republicans, Mr. Bush got an “unvarnished” appraisal of his policies. It wasn’t good and he got this as well: “If we don’t have something good to report by September, we’re ditching you.”

One Republican congressman told the President that his approval rating in one part of his district was at 5%. Nationally, the President is at the 30% mark with Newsweek having him at 28%.

Mr. Perdue may decide to bury his head in the sand, but the American people have had enough. Even among Republicans, the President’s performance in Iraq is driving them to distraction.

After all the effort we have put into Iraq and all the dollars we will be years paying off, every assessment of our performance there is discouraging. The terrorists can hit any part of Iraq they wish, oil production is down and large parts of what is produced wind up in terrorist hands and is used to buy weapons that kill our soldiers. On average, Iraqis in Baghdad get a little over 5 hours of electricity per day and about 8-9 hours nationally. Vast numbers of rebuilding projects are falling into disrepair. Everywhere the signs of the administration’s failures are apparent and we’re supposed to shut up? Thanks governor for that helpful comment.

And with the Iraqis wanting us to leave, just how much longer do we stay there?

Mike: If the AJC is dying it’s not because of it’s political stance. Neocons never supported the paper much anyway. The Internet is diverting advertising the papers around the country have always depended upon.

The “mindless” liberals you castigate aren’t really “liberal”. They appear liberal because you’ve gone over the deep end. Come back to the middle where people belong.

Sonny has a point. He has no solution, so he’s asking for one: “Take my war, please”.

Iraq without US troops in it: A vacuum. that will suck in ambitious combatants into a fight to the death for all that oil.

All that oil. Imagine it up for grabs. The Kurds are dug in, so they’re probably safe, unless they get attacked from the rear by…TURKEY!!

The Syrians will certainly align with the Sunnis and position themselves to receive the onslaught by Iran and Iraq’s Shia. Whoever wins that one will turn on the Kurds.

But one power will emerge, or will it? If we abandon Iraq, then even China (via Iran) could get pulled into that vacuum, and world war three would be upon us, (via US/Sunni axis).

This aint no time to be buying stocks on margin, my fine friends.

What bush has unleashed by opening pandora’s Iraqi box….it’s enough to unnerve the stoned statue of lincoln at the monument.

I wonder if Bush ever has a moment of clarity where he realizes what he’s done. I wonder what form his denial takes.

I wonder if Bush is educating himself on the culture and tradition of the various tribes and sects that dwell in ancient mesopotamia? I wonder if he even thinks about the history he’s stepped into…

    nah!

Democrats keep insisting that there’s no military solution, but rather a political one. What the hell does that mean?

What political solution could there be that has escaped the population of mesopotamia for 10K years?

Part of the Iraqi problem is an historically-ubiquitous foreign presence that has undermined the natural evolution of a tribal population into nationhood through civil war, or whatever it is that shapes a country to be a country over the millenia. Foreigners artificially ensured a peace, preventing the real Iraq from distilling.

From what did France or Germany emerge? From their shared hate of Rome?

Our own experience with the Indians from 1492-1896 prove that a country must be free to exterminate those that would stand in the way of nationhood or any presumed manifest destiny, which any self-proclaimed country must engender to survive.

Iraq never had that chance, because there was always a foreign country stopping them….a foreign country with it’s own manifest destiny over the very planet we live on.

Where does the rights of any one country end and another country begin? Does a cannon always make that determination?

Are we simply armed animals roaming the planet arbitratily identifying our own national security threats?

Buy whose authority? Whose idea was it to send Custer to destroy civilian indians at the Little Big Horn? How dare we? What gave us the right to send cavalry into a bunch of babies and women in tents?

YOu want a scoop? Try digging into how those same indians got their hands on repeater rifles in the weeks leading up to little big horn. Now there’s a story of Grant administration corruption that’s been covered up for over a century, but it’s right there for any of your news hounds/tin-bloggers.

Try thinking Iraq. Think Iraq. Think about it. You can do it. You’ll know what to blog, and what to write your congressman, and what to tell the citizens in your orbit.

Now is the time for all good men to come to the aid of his country. We need to get ourselves out of this Iraq Peace without starting world war three.

Nothing’s impossible. Think Iraq. We can solve this.

Impeach Bush. Why? Because that will occupy congress and prevent any more madness from that sector. It will also pin the administration down and stop them from any more of their treason.

We can get out of this, my fellow americans, but it’s going to be a damn near thing.

    engage.

    America’s war on Terror

655,000 = Iraqi Death Toll 3,390 = US Soldier Deaths

America has become a bully in world politics. Our arrogance, greed, and blood thirst has gotten us involved in mass murder as well as genocide. America was built on freedom and respect for humanity. We were the leaders in keeping the peace and practicing freedom of speech and religion. Now there’s an atmosphere of fear. This fear was caused by the gentlemen in the Washington DC as well as the business owners in the Arms Market and Lockheed. If we aren’t at war, certain businesses don’t make money. Republicans need war becuase they support the second ammendment which includes the gun dealers support. Who’s making the suggestions in DC. Gun totting, blood thirsty, greedy villians are the reason we’re in Iraq. Along with the US based oil companies that seek to make a dollar from the fall of Sadam. America was never in danger, except from itself.

If I hear my neighbors arguing and I walk out of my house, go across the street. Kill my neighbor and sleep with his wife while the kids watch. Yes I’ve created an enemy. That’s what America has done in Iraq. Butted into some one elses business and created an enemy.

I think in ten years all of you raging GOP koolaid drinkers will be doing one or two things. Many of you will act like you thought Iraq was a huge mistake the whole time. The other half of you will act like the war was going WONDERFUL until the liberals screwed it up despite the following; It wasn’t their idea, they were shut out of the planning, they didn’t control the presidency or the congress for the first four years of the conflict and IRAQ was is chaos when the finally took over. Sonny Perdue and all of you raging neo-con rednecks can shove it up your a*. Perhaps, you all are the ones who need to shut up. W stood on an aircraft carrier in 03 with mission accomplished in the background, Rumsfeld wouldn’t admit there was an insurgency until it was over a year old, Cheney said the insurgency was in it’s last throes in 05 and last of all Bush said we were winning in Iraq before the 06 election. You all are just frustrated that something that you believed in so strongly has been an absolute sham. Honestly, believing Iraq will turn out good in the long run(no matter how long we stay)is ridiculous. When we leave Iraq will go into chaos, but that will be the case whether we leave next year or ten years down the road. It’s all a matter of how many dead Americans and how many billions of dollars do we want to waste on a war that shouldn’t have been fought. You all say Democrats are “Rushing to Surrender” or don’t have a plan. What’s the GOP plan? It seems to me stay forever and make sure a generation of military families are seperated from their loved ones for a decade. For what? Nothing.

I am a huge Sonny detractor—I think he’s usually gutless, unimaginative, and a total political creature. But in this one instance, he surprised me by being 100% right. Anyone who does not have an idea should just shut up. It’s really easy to be AGAINST something—but where’s your alternative? The “War Is NOT The Answer” yard signs are a perfect example—who is going to stand up for war, and against peace? Only an idiot. But sometimes you have to take up arms against dangerous people in the world who want to kill you badly enough they’ll sacrifice themselves, their children, and other people’s children in that pursuit. Even the avowed liberal Tom Friedman understands that. So get with it, liberals—I’m waiting for your ideas, and the idea of forcing benchmarks on Iraqi leaders is actually a pretty good one. Let’s have some others. But spare me the “Bush is a war criminal” nonsense. We all remember what the country was going through right after 9-11—we were not in a mood to brook any more defiance from Saddam, or take any crap from anybody else, for that matter. To look back now and say you weren’t worried about Iraq; you didn’t want to take Saddam out; you weren’t p*ed in general—that’s just revisionist history. Be honest with yourselves and stop blaming our thoroughly mediocre president, and start thinking of ways to make things better.
