Blogwatch: Illegal immigration, terrorism, and the Al Qaeda voting bloc in Georgia

The language used in the debate over illegal immigration is getting pretty rough out there.

Tom Crawford of capitolimpact.com has a piece, available at Atlanta Magazine, in which 10th District congressional candidate Jim Whitehead of Evans, a Republican, explains why he’s leaning on illegal immigration as an issue, rather than the war in the Middle East.

Writes Crawford:

“Iraq has not been a big thing in our district,” said Whitehead, a former University of Georgia offensive lineman. “Immigration is the No. 1 issue, pure and simple.” Whitehead contends that “left-wing political activists [are] intentionally registering illegal aliens to vote, including known Al Qaeda terrorists…. This is a pivotal issue for the future of America. We have to have the intestinal fortitude to protect all Americans.”

Don’t dismiss this as a stray stab of hyperbole. D.A. King, the illegal immigration activist who supports Whitehead, allegedly said much the same thing at an April 28 meeting of the Newton County Republican party.

“They’re not here to mow your lawn - they’re here to blow up your buildings and kill your children, and you, and me,” King was quoted as saying.

Jerry Gonzalez, executive director of of the Georgia Association of Latino Elected Officials, has been berating GOP officials in attendance, urging them to put distance between themselves and King’s remarks. Without much luck.

Dear Mr. Whitehead,

What liberal political activists are registering known Al Qaeda terrorists to vote? Please supply factual information. I have asked repeatedly but have yet to see anything to back up the claim you actually attacked Cynthia Tucker for. I want to know what liberal group signed up what Al Qaeda terrorist. No newspaper articles taken out of context please. Since this is your core issue, I want substantive facts.

NO GAS…On May 15th 2007

Don’t pump gas on may 15th in April 1997, there was a “gas out” conducted nationwide in protest of gas prices. Gasoline prices dropped 30 cents a gallon overnight.

On May 15th 2007, all internet users are to not go to a gas station in protest of high gas prices. Gas is now over $3.00 a gallon in most places. There are 73,000,000+ American members currently on the internet network, and the average car takes about 30 to 50 dollars to fill up. If all users did not go to the pump on the 15th, it would take $292,000,000.00 (that’s almost 3 BILLION) out of the oil companys pockets for just one day, so please do not go to the gas station on May 15th and lets try t o put a dent in the Middle Eastern oil industry for at least one day. Thank you!

Let GOP officials keep on instilling fear into their base. This is all they have, they can’t provide any hope for the future. There is no optimism in the GOP message because it has turned off 65% of the American voters. People are sick of their lies.

This Jim Whitehead guy sounds like a complete nut. he is using scare tactics & plus he nor D.A. King have any factual evidence that left-wing activist are registering terrorist or illegals to vote. That’s complete bull**.

Whitehead himself claims it’s true Keith. I’ve been asking for proof. So far nothing. He’s stirring up hatred for his own gain making extreme claims with no proof. If he actually knew how many of his potential constituents were profiting from illegals, he might change his tune as well.

The problem here is that all the d******* think that not buying gas for ONE day is gonna make a dent-NO! You will buy gas the next week when you are on empty. The problem is China and India building cars and raising demand. There is a large supply of oil-the refineries just can’t make enough gas. THAT is the problem-we need 10-20 more refineries and then gas will go back down to a buck-but NOBODY wants a refinery built here. As for you liberals-WE SHOULD have bombed IRAQ into the stone age and taken over the oil and refinery fields-that way we would have cheaper gas. However, since our “christian” president did not have the heart to anhialate the Shiites and disrupt Iran’s Radical klan, we have a problem in Iraq. Next, Liberals-why are YOUR leaders talking with the Radical Muslim States of the Mid East? Is it to say when they are elected, the US will turn Muslim in return for 50 cents a gallon gas? Can you imagine “forcing” a black man to pray 5 times a day and give up Basketball? or Football? Or Rap/hip hop music or Pimping? The only thing good out of that would be the deprotation of Jackson and Sharpton to Africa-Muslims won’t allow them to stay. Oh, BTW Mr. Black man, the Muslims don’t consider you an “oppressed” class. Just “Second” class as they do have a class stature in Muslim land. So liberals, after you’ve taxed everyone to death what next? If we want to make a dent in oil-then let’s see if water or liquid coal would work-OR we could all just telework-that would save lots of money on Gas and rent prices and development would go straight down and more trees would be planted where office buildings once stood. Now THAT would be a good sight.

Out here in Los Angeles(Illegal Alien and Gang Capitol of the USA) the taxpaying middle class have been voting with their feet and moving instead of at the untrustworthy polls where a utility bill and matricula card works for registration.

I really hope James Marlow wins this one. He’s smart and balanced in his views. I trust his independence and know that he will get a lot more done for the district than Whitehead, Broun, or Greene would.

It doesn’t make sense to elect someone who is 65 years old and ragingly partisan in the party that’s out of power and think that the district will benefit.

Marlow’s appeal seems to transcend politics. I know quite a few Republicans who have said they will vote for him.
