In the meantime, store up your energy for the sequel to “You and Your Legislature.”

It’s been a delight to serve you during this session of the Legislature, and we’d like to personally thank you for the ride on that particular rollercoaster.

No matter how rickety it turned out to be.

But now we’ve got sweaty palms and thumping hearts, and we need some rest.

Use this space to argue amongst yourselves. We’ll be back sometime next week, but we’ll be checking the e-mail occasionally. If you’ve got an important tip, tell us.

Hey, Ted: they want us to argue. If you’re so pro-gun, do you give guns to the poor? Now that’s pro-gun!

A little wacky at times but always a fun “must read”. I actually made it required reading for my High school govt. class.

thanks and look forward to the special session with your comments.

Wannabe-Governor Richardson sold out Dunwoody - one of the largest Republican strongholds in the state - for his Perdue veto override. Richardson “showed his backside” to Dunwoody on this and it will not be forgotten.

Tom and Jim,

How about filling us in soon on who is looking at the Atlanta mayor’s race; as you know, one candidate (Council President Lisa Borders) has already started raising money.

I got to studying the $721,000 the General Assembly approved last FRiday night (HB 95) for the expansion and renovation of 5 DFACS offices. They are:

  • $257,000 to Liberty County Senate District 19 - Sen. Tommie Williams - Republican Majority Leader

  • $49,000 to Truetlan County Senate District 4 - Sen. Jack Hill - Chairman - Senate Appropriations

  • $50,000 to Oconee County House District 113 - Bob Smith - Vice-Chair Appropriations Senate District 46 - Bill Cowsert - Appropriations Committee

  • $245,000 to Carroll County House District 18 - Mark Butler - Vice-Chair Appropriations

  • $120,000 to Walton County House District 117 - Barry Fleming - Majority Whip - Appropriations

  • The real question here is: Does DFACS really need $721,000 to renovate and expand these five offices or do these members of leadership and appropriations committees “need to deliver the bacon’ home?

Why is Speaker Richardson worried about a special session???? It means more time in Atlanta with his lobbyist girlfriends! The porkbarrel king sold out the GOP. WE WILL NEVER FORGET

Oops!! Typo - Walton County is in District 107 (not 117) and HD 107 is Rep. Len Walker - also a member of House Appropriations.

Things were going fine before that darn Bobby Kahn and his silly complaint…

Isn’t that the truth! Kahn’s jealous since he doesn’t have a girlfriend!

Many of our legislators guickly forget that they would not be in places of power if Sonny Perdue had not won what was called an impossible victory and carried it forward with real leadership.

Dotty - our legislators are in positions of power because they got elected in their districts. Republicans are in control because a majority got elected statewide and then a good number of Democrats converted.

Sonny is not responsible for that.

Let’s not forget that Sonny is still scratching his bald head and his a** trying to figure out how he first got elected in 2002.

I’m in the House because of Sonny? I was elected a Republican when Sonny was a Democrat thwarting Republican efforts.

    What did Sonny do?

Sonny “converted” to the GOP, but in name only. No right thinking Republican would veto a tax refund! We will override the veto again!

Maybe Sonny can go back to being a Democrat and we can finally elect a real Republican for Governor - Speaker Richardson!

This afternoon, I received this e-mail from Republican State Senator:

Thanks for the email again. We are working on a way to bring your tax dollars back to you without having to vote to override the veto. We arent sure at this point if it might be another gas tax holiday, an extended sales tax holiday or what, but we are determined to give some back that should be coming back to you and the taxpayers of this state. What we have to be very cautious about is going back to Atlanta before we have worked out the problems. If we reconvene and then dont pass the budget, we will all look like first class fools.

The more I read his reply, the more upset I become. It appears the Georgia Senate wants to offer “sales tax free days” instead of refunding the $142mm. I don’t want “sales tax free days” - I want my $100 check. What if I don’t have money to buy anything on “sales tax free days”, then my “refund” is -0-. Suppose my neighbor (or some Senators) buy a car or a large ticket item; their “refund” is huge. Not fair! Also, “sales tax free days” benefit tourists and other visitors. Why should they be part of this equation?

Dear Senators: Override the veto! Please!
