Senate tells NRA to take a hike

Just got word that the Senate will do two more bills, and then adjourn without addressing S.B. 43, the bill to permit employees to store guns in cars parked on corporate lots.

Hard-core tactics by the NRA were blamed by some senators. We hear that Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle was concerned that the Senate would be debating the issue on the same day a woman was killed by a co-worker with a gun in northwest Atlanta.

We’ll try to flesh that out tomorrow.

Legislation on billboards, sonograms for women seeking abortions, and deannexation tanked with the gun bill.

Outside the Senate chamber, the mother of Genarlow Wilson walked away in tears. He’s the teenager who was sentenced to 10 years of hard time for oral sex with a consenting 15-year-old girl. A bill to permit a judge to shorten his sentence died as well.

And now we’re really gone. Good-night.

LEADERSHIP… That’s what it took to stand up to the bullying tactics of the special interests and this take your gun to work bill.

Thank you Lt. Governor Casey Cagle for allowing the measure to meet the end it deserved.

Bull Moose- You call it “LEADERSHIP” when somebody denies you your basic right to self defense? The only special interests out there are those American corporations with the politicians in their back pockets. The NRA fights for us, the lawful people who just earn a living and want to be free of fear for our safety. Corporate America really doesn’t give a hoot if you live or die. WE the people…will remember this beauracratic atrocity come next election day.

It’s not leadership when you say you’ll bring legislation up for a vote and then flip flop all over the place just before the vote comes up.

Cagle is a flip flopper and is showing his word can’t be trusted.

NRALifemember,

Give me a break. It’s people like you who don’t care about the rights of others. It’s people like you who say “forget everyone else’s rights” and think it’s all about you. You really show you have no clue about the Constitution by your own statements. Go back to school and read up on where your rights are fine until they impose on my rights. If I don’t want you bringing guns on my property, you have to abide by my rights. You love using government power to force others to give up their rights to succumb to your rights. Sounds like you’re a fan of wiretapping as well. I guess with your logic we can expect you to allow Cindy Sheehan to come hold a massive rally on your property? What about the Klan? As was mentioned before would you allow this type of action since Free Speech is First Amendment?

Ironically, most NRA members are firm supporters of the Patriot Act, but they find that not being able carry a machine gun to work somehow violates their constitutional rights. “The right to keep and bear arms and maintain a well regulated militia” How does that give you the right to carry a machine gun to work? That amendment is about as archaic as the amendment about “Quartering Soldiers” in your house. I am not saying the NRA is wrong about everything, but this legislation is RIDICULOUS.

Tony I beg to differ-When some armed nut-case felon comes up to me in a parking lot intent on causing me or my family grievous harm, that person has chosen to forfeit their rights. As for the Constitution, what part of “….shall not be infringed…” don’t you understand? If some corporate fat-cat decides to remove my ability to defend myself, then steps should be taken to insure my saftey. Even if this includes adding new legislation/ammendments to current law. You need not fear Tony, I wont bring a gun onto your property-I will just take my business/money somewhere else. Then when the boss bans chewing gum, Ipods, sneakers etc. then those people will take their business elsewhere too. As for REAL GOVT WASTE- Who said anything about machine guns? Like most liberals you have those mixed up with the Daisy Red Ryders. And about my education-I can proudly say that besides other acadamia, that I am a graduate of the School of Hard Knocks and Common Sense. Unlike Tony and REAL GOVT WASTE who share the same classroom at Hillary Clintons Academy of Liberal Arts. When you lump Cindy Sheehan and the KKK in the same subject line….ya gotta wonder.

Shall not be infringed? What part of property rights do you not understand? If it shall not be infringed, take a gun in a courthouse. Go fight that battle. Take one on an airplane. Go fight that battle. Take one in a school. Go fight that battle. You still clearly don’t understand your rights end when they infringe on mine. Bring a gun on my property and tell me what happens.

PLEASE take your business somewhere else. If you cannot handle the Constitution and other people’s rights, take your person somewhere else as well…like another country. You can’t expect people to bend to your fascist view of the second amendment and forget about the rest of the constitution. I see you conveniently avoided the part about letting certain people freely speak on your property.

I’d say in addition to not knowing your Constitution you have no clue what classroom I share. Anyone who forgets 99% of the Constitution and imposes his rights on others on their property has more in common with Hillary and the Klan than he thinks. So when you actually WANT to defend the constitution come back with a cogent argument. Take your argument and your business somewhere else.

Let us all bow our heads in awe of Tony…The worlds leading authority AND sole benefactor of the U.S. Constitution. Don’t forget to put one of those anti-gun signs in the window of your business so law abiding citizens can avoid it like the plague. Although, with looking at your comments on this thread, I cannot understand how somebody as ignorant as yourself can successfully operate a business.

Sorry NRA, but Tony’s right. You also have the right to free speech, but if you camp out on my parking lot with a bull horn I’m going to have you arrested and removed.

Play with your guns all you want, just don’t bring them on my property.

NRAlifemember, if Toni’s so ignorant, why don’t you respond to his points about free speech or individual property rights? With the ranting about law-abiding cizizens, corporate fat cats and Hillary Clinton you sound like a Saturday Night Live skit of an NRA member.

“I guess with your logic we can expect you to allow Cindy Sheehan to come hold a massive rally on your property?” Hey Hank…you just answered Tonys’ query. But, if you show up on my property with the intent of causing grievous harm or injury to me or my family I WILL invoke Castle Doctrine. Every American has the right to self-defense, period.

Every American has the right to self-defense, period.<

Absolutely. You just don’t have the right to bring whatever you want on to my property. Just like I don’t have the right to come onto your property with nefarious intentions.

There, now that wasn’t so hard was it?

Wow NRALifemember, nothing better than kneejerk emotional whining to plead your case. Your whole argument, lacking logic and fact, sounds like some bleeding heart liberal. Just to clarify your interpretation of my argument, I never said I was going to ban guns on property. My argument, speaking slow so you can catch on, is about the government and you telling me what I can do on my personal property. Had you had the intelligence to follow the argument, you’d note that my argument is about property rights and the government having no power to impede on those rights for someone else’s supposed rights to do what they want on my property.

So again, go back to school, pick up a constitutional law book, read the document, and then hopefully something will sink in where your rights end when they impede on my rights. It’s a shame that the NRA has such bleeding heart knee jerk whiners trying to argue the Constitution. It’s a sad day when they have to resort to getting Democrats to jump on board the emotional bandwagon to get something done. A fitting pairing for the NRA now.

If, under the RULE OF LAW, I am permitted to bring a firearm onto a place of business for the sole intention of self defense, then I will do so. With or without your permission. And with the help of organisations like the NRA, this will soon become a reality for all law abiding Americans. Your right, no rocket science here…

If you come in my business with a gun, I will have the legal right and the Constitution to either have you removed and/or arrested.

I don’t care what organizations like the NRA do. The Constitution says my property rights override your rights on my property. I don’t care what your motives are. If I don’t want your guns on my property, you’re out of there.

I love your mindset. You need to move to a third world country where those with guns force their will on others regardless of rights, law, or Constitution. You’d fit well under Iran than the US. Frankly you can go run to your special interest group and intimidate with threats all you want. You have threats and blackmail to use. I have the Constitution. I feel more confident in what I resort to than what you do. Look yourself in the mirror and tell me what is more patriotic and American here. Threats, intimidation, and blackmail or just referring to the Constitution?

Your one of the reasons for “concealed carry”. What are you going to do, strip search everyone who enters your establishment? Choke on it…
