Traffic tunnels: Someone explain this to us

First, we hear that commuter rail is dead in Georgia. Rail is no good, we’re told, because you can’t move iron tracks with every shift in traffic patterns. Perhaps this is true, perhaps not.

But now we have this idea of moving metro Atlanta traffic via giant, underground tunnels. Much like we do sewage, which is an interesting metaphor.

Lord knows that tunnels are easier to pick up and move when commuter patterns change. If you think about it, a huge tunnel doesn’t weigh much more than a donut hole.

Face it…. excuses can always be found NOT to do something. The thing is that we MUST do something. Rail has seemed to work for cities like London, New York, and even DC. But for some reason, it cannot work in Atlanta? How much dumb(er) does that make us sound?????

I would think that after watching the Billions that went into the “Big Dig” in Boston, only to have it collapse less than a year after completion, would keep anyone from even considering this silly idea.

Simply unbelievable. There’s $100 million of fed money for the Lovejoy train. But conservative Republicans Steve Davis, David Doss, Mike Evans and even the AJC’s Repub lackey Jim Wooten fight, fight against it.

But these agents for road building interests are all for spending $6.39 BILLION for a tunnel? OMG, a tunnel?

And not one word from GA Dem rep.’s or senators? These cowards, like Calvin Smyre, DuBose Porter, David Adelman and even Shirley Franklin have enabled this mess. People need transit options. And we’ll probbaly never have that in GA, and Dem’s are a big part of the reason why.

Get real Dem’s Enable This! The Republicans are in charge in Georgia and they set the priorities. It serves no real purpose the make news comments about their decisions. The more meaningful impact is to use influence to impact the flow of federals transportation funds.

Georgia’s leaders have not gotten the message yet. Bi-partisanship in Georgia will have to be forced from the federal level, which I am sure it will be…just watch and see.
