Edwards raises money, and a new star rises

About the same time Illinois Sen. Barack Obama was announcing the formation of his exploratory committee Tuesday, former Sen. John Edwards was greeting Atlanta supporters at a fundraiser at the Capitol City Club.

According to one of the hosts, Steve Leeds, the event went well and raised a nice chunk of change for the ’04 vice-presidential candidate.

With Obama in the race, he’ll need it. Edwards - who has taken a more outspoken position on getting out of Iraq than most of his potential rivals, and who made a big hit with his King holiday speech at the Riverside Church in New York - has as much to lose from an Obama candidacy as any Democrat.

Incidentally, expect a Georgia Obama group to be up and running by the end of the week. We spoke Tuesday afternoon with Parag Mehta, a 26-year-old IT consultant from Decatur who’s been involved in the group’s formation. Several hundred Georgians have expressed an interest in the campaign, and a core group is moving toward some kind of official launch, he said.

The last presidential campaign only offered a taste of how quickly a campaign can get up and running in the internet age. The Iowa caucuses may still be a year away, but trust us, it won’t seem like a long time.

John Edwards was EXTRAORDINARY today…as always. No question in my mind: He will be the next President of the United States and he’ll need all the help he can get as he attempts to correct all the damage BU$HCO has caused.

More drivel from the left. You can’t say something positive about your candidate without slamming Bush. Very original.

Romney will be President come January, 2009. http://www.georgiansforromney.blogspot.com

I am a graduating senior at Georgia State University. I am a political science major. I have taken classes in Campaign Organization and Georgia Politics which focused on Jimmy Carter and his political career. I did an internship last year with the Democratic Gubernatorial Candidate Mark Taylor. I was a part of the financial committee raising money. I am interested in working for The Edwards’ campaign. I live in Atlanta, GA. and will have my undergrad. degree this May.

Extaordinary…as always?? Really? Wasn’t all that extraordinary in 2004, was he? AT least the Dems didn’t think so.

Mark George Dorough I have worked on campaigns for years and have done my fair share of hiring campaign staff. I have to say that if I was shown what you just wrote on this public blog then I would never hire you as you do not have the tact, nor the intelligence to work on a major campaign.

And here’s a hint. If you want a job on a campaign the best first step is to just show up and start volunteering. Very few campaigns, let alone presidential, hire someone right out of college unless they work hard first.

Just what America needs. Another ambulance chasing blow dried shister in office. Comb Over Boy is the reason why medical costs are soaring. Lawyers and labor unions are the reason why jobs are leaving America. Soon the only thing not Made in China will be lawyers and labor unions. Pubbies want our souls and dims want our wallets. My soul you can have. Just keep your grubby mitts off my wallet.
