On abortion, Bobby Franklin, and Neal Boortz
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Neal Boortz, the libertarian radio talk guru on WSB radio (750 AM), has spent much of this morning laying into state Rep. Bobby Franklin, the Republican from east Cobb County, for submitting legislation banning all abortions in Georgia.
Referring to Franklin as a “nut-job,” Boortz belittled the measure for linking breast cancer and smoking among women to abortion, and for failing to include any exceptions for rape, incest or the life of the mother.
Paraphrasing here, because we didn’t have the recorder going, but Boortz said that — if that bill should pass into law, and if he were the husband or father of a woman who died as a result — he’d hunt Franklin down and “snap” his neck, consequences be damned.
And so the dawn of a friendlier, kinder era of political debate.
Don’t bother trying to respond to Boortz. The radio host said he isn’t taking any calls on the matter.
Franklin’s bill doesn’t stand much of a chance of passing, but religious conservatives are backing it as a potential test case for the U.S. Supreme Court.

This is not a subject about religious groups/people verus the U.S. Supreme court. Its not about what person or group is for or agianst abortion. Its about human life.
I believe that the ONLY time abortion should be allowed or legal is when it comes down to the mothers life or the babys life. If the doctors know that the mother will die if she doesnt have an abortion then it should be allowed.
In the case of rape and any other mishap pregnancies than I think adoption and foster care is a better choice. Sorry but I personally do not believe in abortion unless it comes down to being the only way the mother will live.
As far as Neal Boortz, I think he is funny as crap but is also a arrogant pompas a*. I would love the opportunity to come on his show and debate the child custody/child support issue and the so called family court systems that we have here in Georgia. And how incompetent of a DFACS system we have in Georgia.

Jack-what kind of Christian a* answer is that?! No abortion for rape or incest-give the kid up for adoption. Would you want your daughter to carry the child of a rapist? And what if the rapsit were black? Rape is traumatic enough, and to have an interracial rape is even worse! Also, it costs the state hundreds of thousands a year to take care of unwanted/illegitimate kids-a $500 abortion is preferable to the tax payers than having to pay welfare. After the second abortion-give the woman Norplant! Just another example of how the “Christians” are trying to turn America into a Puritain Country. You guys are almost as bad as the Muslims-you haven’t started blowing yourselves up yet. And before anyone starts, Yes, we would probably have been better off if Bill Clinton were in that group too!

Funny…Boortz claims to be a Christian, but he’s really a cafeteria Christian, taking a spoonful of this and a dollop of that to suit his needs. It cracks me up when people say they are Christians and then go on to explain that they embrace evolution and gay rights and the heliocentric theory of the solar system. As if a religion could be 27% or 18% or 72% correct. Perhaps Neal is “complex and nuanced” in his religious views. As an atheist, I can respect the Fundamentalists more than Boortz in one respect…their consistency. A religion is either the inspired, literal truth of the universe, or it’s a pile of man-made mythology. There is no middle ground. A religion should be embraced or rejected in its totality.

Boortz is being consistent as a Libertarian in his opposition to government intruding into private behavior. No man has the right to decide on legislation regarding abortion.

Bud loosen up. I want you to go ask any “sane” person if they agree with every aspect of their religion. I’d like the answer in a report on my desk in the morning.
It seems you’re as fundamentalist as they come.

Hmm…this morning Neal detailed under what circumstances he would initiate physical force against a politician who passes a law he doesn’t like. What a great libertarian.

Bud. Do you follow every belief in your chosen political party or religion? Get off your high horse you pompous a$$. People choose to be in a certain party or group because they identify with “most” of the beliefs. I said “MOST”… not ALL.

So as a true believer that demands 100%, then I suggest you start your killing spree — After all the Bible demands it!
Oh Wait - then there’s that contradiction with that ol’ “Thou’ Shalt not Kill!” part~ EH?

Umm… what makes an interracial rape worse than non-interracial rape? Is the state going to allow lynchings next?

I could not imagine how awfully horrible it would be to be raped by a Southern Baptist. That would be worse than anything I could imagine.
Just thinking about that make me want to fling myself off of a tall building or into a lava pit.

Thomas…I’m not a true believer…I’m a true unbeliever and I encourage others to embrace reason and discard judeo-christian mythology. The bible is a pile of contradictory absurdity. Which makes it all the more silly to cling to bits and chunks of it. Just let it go and use the cold, clear light of reason to live in this world, the existence of which is not in doubt.

Today is another proud day for GA Republicans. Mr. Boortz also lamented today that he was sore at national Republicans for losing power…he is such a master at speaking out of BOTH sides of his mouth. He harped constanly during the campaigns that voters SHOULD NOT vote Republican! He has a following and is personally responsible for having some effect on the elections outcome.
His hate-filled rant against Rep. Franklin makes me wonder how many times he may have been responsible for a young lady having an abortion…”me thinks he doth protest too much.” Typically such protestations makes it sound like he may be trying to assuage his personal guilt. Care to comment on THAT, Mr. B?
