Democrats accuse House speaker of ‘inappropriate relationship’ with AGL lobbyist
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Republican hopes for a smooth and triumphant opening of the 2007 session of the Legislature were dealt a blow Sunday with the announcement by state Democratic party chairman Bobby Kahn that he would file an ethics complaint against Speaker Glenn Richardson (R-Hiram), charging that the speaker, due to be re-elected to a second term on Monday, had an ‘inappropriate relationship’ with a lobbyist employed by Atlanta Gas Light.
Here and here is the paperwork Kahn says he’ll file on Monday. More to come.

I have not been a big supporter of the very partisan way that Bill Richardson has run the House. However, this seems like a very personal attack against Speaker Richardson. The story seems vague (what is an “inappropriate relationship? Do they have pictures, videos, or something?). If Bobby Kahn has specifics, perhaps we will have the opportunity to see exactly what he is talking about as the investigations moves forward. Otherwise, we should not spend so much time evaluating the personal lives of politicians (Republican or Democrats). It is like a soap opera sometimes at the Capitol. I would prefer to see how the political agenda is going to affect our lives.

GA Independent- If Bill Richardson has done a bad job of running the GA House of Reps, that might be because Bill Richardson is the Governor of New Mexico. I’m sure his duties over there keep him busy and prevent him from giving the needed attention to the Georgia chamber. GLENN Richardson is the Speaker.

Dear Senator Nunn, You were a great Senator but If you think the Middle East was better off with Sadam in power you have losted your mind. The Middle East is a powder keg the only way to defuse it is to have the people of each of those countries have real free elections and to allow them to govern themselves within their own boarders. The biggest mistake that created this problem was done when Jimmy Carter failed at supporting the Shah of Iran. He cut off funding by the CIA to the Iatolls. Now we see that Speaker of the House wants to cut the funding for the troops serving in Iraq. Instead of cutting the funds there lets shut down all the bases in Germany, England, Korea, Japan. Lets see how much guts you have now. The Democratic party is no longer the party of my grandfathers. It’s a party that uses rasism and bigots to try to govern our country. I Known that Mr. Cox’s is rolling over in his grave when he looks down at what has happen to the party that he was the Presidental nominee in the 1930’s. I can even think that he is sick of the AJC being so one sided. The media today will someday have its day to the people. They have lost there sense of duty. They are out to make news instead of reporting it honestly. There is a new media growing in strength and the people one day will realize the great mistakes that have been made in reporting the news. When that occurrs the NYT, AJC, LA times and NBC, ABC, CBS will come down off the high perch and change will come. All these things are contributors to Iraqs problems. It’s time to tell the truth guys. There are alot of us who do known it. Thank Wes

barkeriv, you are off subject.
Ga Independent…The story is vague at this point for obvious reasons. The call for an investigation does not necessarily require a presentation of all of the facts. The actual investigation is suppose to unfold the facts.
The personal lives of elected officials become relevant when relationships, marital or extra-marital, have an impact upon the formation or implementation of public policy, i.e., assistance to Atlanta Gas Light, a public utility. It is especially relevant when elected officials, under a banner of “family values,” engage in improper relationships. Such conduct speaks directly to truthfulness.
Improper conduct is an issue that transcends partisanship. I could care less about the source of exposure. Arrogance is an enduring frailty for all elected officials.

I just hope the inappropriate relationship was with an adult female rather than a 15 yr old boy or gay hustler/masseuse/drug peddler. Ewwwww!

Bobby Kahn has NO credibility in the State of Georgia.

Bobby Kahn is pretty darn smart. He’s not going to put out the proof now - he’s going to let the Republican sweat it. As he should. They all KNOW Richardson has never been able to keep his pants zipped. Now they have their own little Mark Foley disaster - who knew what when - and who has the proof?
Well, we know Bobby has the proof. And he’s not accusing GLENN Richardson (got, can’t you bloggers even get your names right??)of marital infidelity without good reason. And it’s not like Richardon is the only one. I worked down at the capitol for years with those b******* - and I have to tell you there is nothing more disheartening than to hear them campaign at your church on family values, and then see them sneak out the back door of their office with the first physically well endowed lobbyist.
Republicans in Georgia have a unique opportunity - they can practice what they preach, or they can let Richardson drag them all down.

Somebody finally had the cajones to call Glenn Richardson on his hypocrisy! Yay!

Oh, and let’s not forget - Richardson isn’t alone in this behavior. There are too many Republicans in Georgia who tell the wives back home they have to work late, then pick up 18 year old girls in their convertibles and take them back to taxpayer paid for hotel rooms during the session.
It’s time for Georgians to hold their elected representatives to a higher standard. Marital infidelity is NOT a God-given right of elected office.

So quick to assume a dirty rumor is true. Very sad state of the human soul. Glenn is a personal friend and I will not believe it until it is proved. If it is true then the Speaker should resign. If it is not true how does he get his good name back as it was before? Quit licking your chops and wait for the fact to come out and please be considerate of a wife and children who are being put through Hell by this. Again if it’s true he deserves what he gets. I do belive that in America, we are still to be presumed innocent until guilt is proved. I have seen no proof as of yet so I just say shame on you all who rejoice in the opportunity to publicly drag someone and their family through the mud without giving thought to truth or who it is harming. And we wonder why it’s so hard to find good candidates to run for office.

Richardson is a troll. His coronation was staged like a middle school play (don’t know who sewed the costumes) and he cried. Then, not five minutes later, he was castrating the Democrats with a gleam in his eye. He and Perdue show that Georgia Republicans are arrogant, suck the trough dry, corrupt ignoramuses. And that’s just their good points. Hope they both wind up in jail.

Oh and I suppose that Democrates don’t have illicit affairs. Give me a break. This is not a party issue, it’s an issue between a man and his wife. Not for media fodder and not for us to judge. Don’t legislators have better things to be doing than digging up dirt to make others look bad? They should be doing the job that they were elected into office to do and that’s take care of issues that affect Georgia citizens and our laws.

Go to the picture of the Speaker and his wife at the Wild Hog Supper http://lpe.ajc.com/gallery/view/metro/0107/hog. Susan is not a fan of politics to begin with; add to it an affair and tell me you would have this smile from either of them? This isn’t Bill & Hillary! The Richardsons are a committed couple and real, they can’t fake it like that.

Darrell: I hope its not true, but it could be that she, as well as everyone else, didn’t find out until this morning. Unfortunately, bad things happen to good people.
I wish the best for her if it is true.

Missy, of course Democrats have illicit affairs. The difference is that Democrats do not go around lording their supposed superior morals over everyone else. We are all humans and make mistakes, and if Mr. Richardson has made the mistake of cheating on his wife, then that is really an issue for him and his wife to deal with. However, it would seem to preclude Mr. Richardson from behaving as if he is somehow superior to others in his morality wouldn’t it? There is nothing worse than a hypocrite.

This is just an example of the “valuless” Dems striking out in the only way they know! They know we Republicans have a higher standard, so they believe we will panic and stampede to bring down our leaders…or the public will rise up and demand it. After all, that worked for them in the Congressional elections. The media, of course, is only happy to do their part.
There have been countless instances of outrageous behavior by Democrats…I could go on and on about the “inappropriate toy” flashing of a young page…mixing personal and campaign funds…receiving state payment for NO services…taking 3 different sources of per diem payments at the same time!
Those events in the above paragraph were very recent…and the media gave them a pass. The Dems have been out for revenge ever since they lost power. “The Kahn” has fostered a big “CON JOB” on a gullible media as well as the public, and HE should have to PAY for his libelous charges.

BEEN THERE—REPUBLICAN, How did you learn about the misbehaviors of Democrats that you mentioned in your last paragraph? Like the rest of us, you learned from the media. Please do not be so eager to show your ignorance.

BeenThere- You’re right that Dems commit offense - just as Republicans do. What is really shocking is that you seem to think taht anyone who is a Democrat has “no values” and that Republicans have a “higher standard”. Can you seriously be so blinded by your partisan views that you think all Dems are alike and all Republicans are alike? Dems and Republicans are HUMAN and make mistakes. In equal measure. Stop viewing the world through your Republican-goggles and try to see that you guys don’t have a corner on values.

Again, you are mistaking the issue-it is not about a party! Everyone makes mistakes-that is true-whether Republican or Democrat. A Democrat caused one of the biggest White House scandals of MY time and made Americans look stupid to the whole world. And don’t tell me that Democrats don’t lord it over anyone-Clinton wasn’t sorry about anything. And we wonder why other countries look down on us? They don’t air their dirty laundry for the world to see on TV.
All I’m saying is that this issue is not about party and it’s not for the media to jump on. It’s a private matter, if it’s true and it’s between him and his wife and family. That’s who I feel sorry for.

A democrat got a blow job and caused a scandal.
The current president lies to get us into Iraq causing the death of over 3000 Americans, and how many Iraqis?
Blow Job, Murder —— I can see how that is on the same par….

Who gives a rat’s hiney who slept with who…..
THE ISSUE IS $300 million of my tax dollars went to the AGL for some pipeline in exchange for sex, that’s one very expensive prostitute we taxpayers all paid for.
I mean at least the one at SugarLoaf only charged $10,000 per date. At the very least, the guy should get fired for expense-account fraud. There should be a line on his expense report that says ‘personal services’ and it should show an amount of $300 million.
The AGL screws all of us, each and every day. Richardson is doing a public service by experiencing first-hand how the AGL company screws people.
