Know when to hold ‘em, know when to fold ‘em

Max Burns’ decision not to seek a recount in the 12th District congressional race saves the taxpayers’ money, and therefore speaks well of him. After looking at every possible ballot that might have gone another way, the Republican former congressman decided there was no point in prolonging the outcome.

Personal circumstances may also have come into play – Burns’ father-in-law suffered a heart attack the day after the election and died Tuesday. A recount would be a bothersome distraction under those circumstances.

His decision not to challenge the results that certified Rep. John Barrow the winner also says something about the impact of those much-maligned computer voting machines. For all the questions that swirl around them, the new machines have dramatically speeded up the process of tallying votes and rendered recounts pointless in most cases. There were no hanging chads or butterfly ballots to confuse the issue in the 12th District race. A recount would simply have been a process of running the machines again, and would have taken only a day longer.

For the first time in four election cycles, Democrats are not attacking the Diebold Corp. the day after the election, accusing it of rigging its voting machines. I guess Diebold has finally been vindicated.

Burns took the high road on this one, good for him. Give the national Democrats two years to screw things up royally, and they will, and the Republicans will once again be as strong on the national level as we are in Georgia. Pelosi has already lost her first battle, with more losses to come. Carvelle is already calling for the head of Dean. They have no plan, no promise for a better future. The Dems rode into power on a wave of knee jerk reaction. Two more years and then they go bye-bye !!!!

OMG! Could they screw up any worse than the Dubya Brigade? I certainly think not.

Hopefully Americans are waking up to the tactics of the neocons and removing thier heads from their collective bootys.

Democrats are not much better than the RepubliCONS, but at least it’s a small step in the correct direction.

If the Democrats went in on a wave of knee jerk reaction It was the Repubicons knees that were jerking.

You dum-dam Democrat parents should be happy: The draft is coming back and will soon take your little liberal children into the Army. This a Democratic scheme, courtesy of Rep. Charlie Rangel, D. Harlem. He has backed this bill for years, but now that the Dims are in the majority, the iron is hot for striking.
