I am appalled by the radio campaign ad the Mayor recorded for John Eaves. Lee Morris has worked as hard as any public official in Atlanta for racial reconciliation, and this ad is a mean-spirited, race-baiting distortion. It really calls into question all the cross-racial bridges the Mayor has worked so hard to build over the past five years.

I am VERY DISAPPOINTED in Mayor Franklin … I have believed for so long that she was above that sort of thing…but she’s showing her true colors..and that saddens me.

This doesnt surprise me a bit! As a Native Atlantian I have seen the “victims” pull this sort of crap more times than I can count. Black Democrats know that their time is running out in Atlanta and at somepoint in the not to distant future they will not have a monopoly on elections in the City of Atlanta. The more whites that move back into the city the less of stranglehold these racebaiters have on this city.

People can blame Shirley for the soon to be split-up of Fulton County. She showed her true character in that ad. So much for her “who are your neighbors” and “moving forward and making strides” talk after that race-baiting piece. Her despicable radio ad depicting Fulton County Republicans (of all people) as extreme Right-Wingers is the reason that Lee Morris, a practical consensus builder and the only person who could have kept the county together, lost last night. She compared the situation to fighting off fire-hoses in the 60’s and that people’s lives depended on voting for John Eaves. She should be ashamed and I actually thought more of Mr. Young as well.

I know that politics is politics, but that did what was needed to make Milton/North Fulton County a reality by providing a concrete motivating force for the actual split of the county. If Lee had won, people would have endured. Down 5-2 at the commission with people like her in power, it sealed the deal. I guess she is going to get what she asked for - a consolidated power base for her and her friends, but she should have realized that sometimes you actually get what you ask for - and this case it will be a smaller county. In addition she committed political suicide for anything but Lewis’ seat after that ad.

With a solid Republican held dome the out of touch, racist, bigoted, we hate anyone but black people McKinney clones better enjoy the double standards they have had in the past when they ran the city (into the ground) from Auburn Avenue, those days are over. Had this been three white people doing this horrible scare tatic ad we’d have Lewis and Young, with JJ and Al…. all marching today. Franklins political career has the life span of a house fly in October now, outside of crime infested SW Dekalb; Young is a joke, he’d sell his soul to the devil for a dollar and Lewis…he’s an idiot.

Unfortunately Lewis and Young didn’t surprise me (Young ceased being a statesman a long time ago), but I honestly thought Shirley Frankling was above something as cheap as this.

I don’t know if Pitts was given the same opportunity, but if so he should be commended for rising above the trivialization of the civil rights movement. If the children today are taught that moderate Republican Lee Morris is the equivalent of Bull Connor and the attack dogs, then it will inevitably diminish the reverence their generation will have for those who truly sacrificed during the Civil Rights movement.

I think it was very short-sighted on Franklin’s part. Sure you managed to get John Eaves elected, but now your ridiculous commerical will be the battle cry for the new, very wealthy county of Milton leaving behind a very poor county of Fulton.

I couldn’t agree more …. Fulton County will split (Republicans are still in power)…Forget Young and Lewis … MANY are very disappointed in Franklin … she has secured the fate of Fulton County … watch for a new Milton County within 2 years.

It’s very disappointing that the Mayor’s impressive work had seemed to be directed at cleaning up Bill Campbell’s messes and above racebaiting. I was looking forward to another strong WOMAN moving up the politcal ladder.

This message is to those who fail to speak out against racist behavior and those participating in discriminating acts against people of color

I live in Conyers, and I’ve been called a N…r in 2007. Racism is alive in America.

Isn’t that a racist comment? Move the white people into Atlanta and get the blacks out. Who’s playing the race card here? We live the race card daily. Are white people blind or clueless or selectively ignorant? We’ve been playing spades all our live w/white people. We’ll always play the card, becuase you remind us everyday at work, in stores, on the news, and in politics that whites are the selfproclaimed saviors and honorable residents of America. Whites will never understand people of color, it’s obvious by the comments above. I pray you all find peace in your hearts.

It’s only 40 years since we were able to share a restroom. It’s still in our minds. Most white people show no guilt or remorse for the gross treatment of African Americans during Jim Crow and Slavery times. It’s obvious white Americans conitnue to think this land was made for them only. Remember this land was colonized(stolen, genocide, and raped of Native Americans) We’ll never forget the mental and physical abuse white have caused people of color.

Remember this, you were in caves when people of color were living as civilized people of Africa, Asia, and Native America until the Greek and Roman Armies destroyed all of our history and stole the resources. Play the human right card and we can all live free.

Let’s play what if:

What if an African empire (Ethiopia for example) had developed in technology and industry ahead of the Europeans? What if an African Empire had explored and settled the New World instead of the Europeans? What if an African Empire had the advantages in warfare that the Europeans enjoyed hundreds of years ago? Do you think the history of the world would have been better?

I think you know where I am going here. Whether we are white, black, or yellow, all mankind is capable of treating others inhumanly especially when it is to their advantage. Do whites have a monopoly on cruelty and racism? Any quick studey of history will tell you otherwise. Let’s start the world over and let some other race take the lead and I’m sure every thing would be just fine now. Think about it. God bless.

Yes, the ad was race baiting. But let’s be real—Repubicans do the same damn thing. For years, they’ve scared voters playing on racial prejudices linking Democrats to single, black welfare mothers with 10 children. I received racially-based attack ads from Saxby Chambliss’s 2002 campaign against Max Cleland in which he sent literature to my Alpharetta neighborhood (which is predominately white and Republican) associating Cleland with black gang bangers, welfare moms and the ghettos trying to scare voters to oust him. Kudos to Shirley, John and Andy for taking a page out of the Republican Playbook of Race Baiting. If its good for one, its good for all.
