Franklin goes up on radio — not TV — for Taylor
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
While Republicans have worried whether conservative Christians will show up tomorrow, Democrats have quietly expressed concern about their own base.
During the primary, Mark Taylor, the candidate for governor, brought out former Atlanta mayor Andrew Young in a 30-second TV spot to carry the turnout message to black voters.
If there’s an equal effort in the general election, we haven’t seen it. Last week, Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin cut a radio ad for Taylor that’s getting significant air time across the state, on stations geared to African-American listeners.
“He’ll work to raise the minimum wage. He has a plan to provide health insurance for every child. And Mark Taylor will never, ever cut education funding, Franklin says.
We’re assuming that the decision to put Franklin on the radio rather than television was strategic, or economic. Taylor may have felt obligated to keep up his TV attacks on Gov. Sonny Perdue until the last moment.
But it must be said that something was left on the table by not putting Franklin on the tube. The Atlanta mayor has tremendous appeal among all women, white as well as black.

One could only wish that Mayor Franklin were on the ballot for governor instead of Bozo and Ronald McDonald.

It seems the Guv and the Mayor understand that they are not to attack one another directly. Perhaps the Mayor will run for gov in 2010. Or maybe something bigger and better?

Mayor Franklin’s a formable politician with accomplishments; Tayor’s nomination (at far-better candidate Cathy Cox’s reputation/expense) was achieved via ‘chits’ cashed through the years vis-a-vis political favors done for other Democratic officeholders … so, who’s sorry now? During Sunday’s debate Mark Taylor promised he’d do everything he could to buy Oaky Woods for the people of Georgia. I bet he would … anything else that he’s ever bought was with other people’s money. The guy’s middle-aged, still living in Daddy’s house, driving Daddy’s cars and getting an allowance. Give me a break! Several wives, drugs and booze, dysfunctional children; yea, ‘ol “big un” done finally got caught in the headlights. Tell ‘ol Bobby Kahn to come drag him off the road. Cathy Cox is pretty tough, but she couldn’t fight her own party’s corruption. Sonny wouldn’t play … he switched parties and then ol’ Bobby and his boy, Roy attacked. They moved Sonny out of the Capitol and into the basement across the street. Sonny moved them out, period. Now, ‘ol ‘big ‘un’s gone, too. Smile Jimmy, another southwestern Georgia Dem’s coming to join you. Even if you voted every headstone at Andersonville there aren’t enough ‘registered voters’ available to steal this one. Bye-bye, ‘big ‘un. Now, Mayor Franklin … she’ll be a tough candidate … she’s got a record. Women, men, blacks, whites, R’s & D’s will give her a decent listen, she’s earned it … but that same crowd KNOWS when you’re out just for yourself. Go play on Daddy’s airplane, Mark (or maybe Sonny’ll loan you his; remember … CAPTAIN Sonny Perdue … Viet Nam; lifelong love of flying) … Nah, how could you remember, about that same time you were singing Kumbaya’ on the corner of 10th & Buckhead, readin’ a copy of the BIRD while imbibing in some gooooood s**! Well, you’re in some now, too Mark. Have a good life.

Funny think is, being from Houston County, nobody really cares (or even knows) where Oaky Woods are, or what they are. We just call them “them big ol’ trees”

Gee Tom Davis: I do agree with you about Shirley. And Shirley has endorsed Mark Taylor wholeheartedly. She even signed a letter that was sent out to Georgia women.
But, why are you so angry about Mark Taylor? If he is the “playboy” you’ve painted, why would he want to run for Governor? He should be in Florida on a cigarette boat drinking champagne, shouldn’t he?
But no…Mark has acknowledged his privildged upbringing and CHOSEN to run for political office. I don’t know why he would put himself through it, but there are easier ways to earn a living without the personal attacks and vitrol one gets from running for office.
Sonny has chosen to run for Governor again to enrich himself. He’s cut cut cut funding for the people of Georgia (handicapped kids, teachers, etc.) while giving himself a $100,000 tax break. For goodness sakes, very few Georgians even make $100,000 in a year!!
Boss Hawg Sonny has also made more money in the past 4 years as Governor Perdue than he did in the previous 54 years as plain ole regular citizen Sonny Perdue. Mark Taylor pointed that out in the debate last night.
Speaking of the debate…did you notice Sonny’s nervous giggling throughout? Did you notice his Bush-like smirk? Did you notice his voice breaking when asked the tough questions? Did you notice his squirming?
I think Georgians will wake up tomorrow morning and realize that they want a Governor who works for them and not one who’ll work to enrich himself. Georgians will vote for Mark Taylor tomorrow.

Tom Davis give it up. Cathy Cox caused her own demise with race-baiting ads, poor judgment on Diebold, and last but not least saying she never said her name in those ads which clearly she did say her name. She did not tell the truth.
She ran every bit as negative a campaign but b/c she’s female it’s poor Cathy. Well get over it.
Also,a lot of people were turned off to those self-promoting ads.
I don’t think Mark Taylor is perfect, but on his worse day he will be better than Sonny Perdue.

Hello my fellow Georgians, I’m sorry I holler and scream like a used car salesman when I give out endorsements on the radio. But I want to encourage you NOT TO VOTE FOR GA. DEPT OF LABOR COMMISSIONER MICHAEL THURMOND. BOOT HIM OUT.
