They’re getting a bit punchy up in north Georgia

If you know Georgia, you know two things about the people who inhabit the hills in the northeast corner.

First, they’re hard-core Bible believers. Second, they’re about as stubborn and contrarian as they come. Occasionally, the two characteristics clash.

For the last month or so, Republicans have concentrated on turning out the evangelical base for state Sen. Nancy Schaefer, and for the two Republican challengers to state Reps. Jeanette Jamieson of Toccoa and Alan Powell of Hartwell, both Democrats.

(See the blog entry below)

The constant base-energizing got to be a bit much for Spooner Phillips and Charlie Shell, who run a financial services business in Hartwell.

They shelled out $800 for 100 or so signs they’ve put out around town: “Wake up. Don’t drink the Kool-Aid

“I’m Republican, and a church-goer, too, Phillips said Friday. “Personally, Charlie and I feel that the Republican party is leading people astray. We thought [the signs] would be funny.

Not everybody thinks so. We caught Powell, the Democratic state representative from Hartwell, on his cell phone. He said that as he’s been driving around the district, he’s been moving any Kool-Aid signs he sees far away from his own.

Christian right & cool-aid go hand in hand. Where is Jim Jones when you need him. At least some Republicans are waking up. Keep drinking that cool-aid & you will find yourself following a cult-like millionaire drugie gay pastor. The one thing certain about the Christian right is that they are neither. Where can you get one of those signs?

All you Christian bashers go ahead and have your fun. The cold hard fact is that over 80% of this nation’s population considers itself Christian. Yeah that’s right. Not muslim, not Jewish, not athiest, not agnostic, but pure boneafide prime Christian. So go ahead and have fun kids, it’s your lost soul, not ours. You leftwing hate mongers will wish you’d had a different mindset when you meet your Creator.

Christians aren’t worth a SHID. Doesn’t matter if they are a democrat or republican, they all fall for MONEY, PUZZY and lately the MALE BOOTY.

Left wing hate mongers? Hmm…When did Rush Limbaugh become a lefty? And that shif slingin’ O’Reilly…when did he join the Dems? Oh, and Hannity-job…I guess he’s on the left now. Sir John, you sir have drank the kool-aid.

There ain’t no hell, other than the one we create for ourselves by putting a bunch of liars, and war mongers (most of whom haven’t put on a uniform), into office.

I wish I had the certainty that faith offers. But there’s a little thing called critical thinking that I’d rather use rather than taking the leap off the proverbial cliff. Must be comfortable being swaddled in a belief system that shouldn’t have survived kindergarten.

Is that cherry or grape, Sir Ape?

Here’s a interesteing possibililty…what if when we meet our creator; he says that politics was never his business anyway. That he is no respector of persons and that those who are hypocritical were like warm vomit in mouth, which he will “spew out…” THAT his sacrifice is the only thing (not works or piety) that allows us to be worthy of a hope of heaven.

Children, children, name calling does not solve problems.

My daddy always told us to judge people by what they do, not by what they say. I have voted for candidates of both parties based on their actions. By that standard, though, I’m not voting Republican for quite a while. We all make mistakes but being proud of making them and blaming others for them - not a winning strategy.

Mary says “WE ALL MAKE MISTAKES”.. That’s what my christian buddies are telling me about the good Rev. Ted Haggard since he was exposed this week on being a hypocrite of preaching against gays on Sunday, but sleeping with em on Monday. My friends said “HE’S JUST A MAN, HE’S HUMAN AND HUMANS MAKE MISTAKES”.. MISTAKE?? HOW DA FUGG DO YOU CONTINUE TO MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE FOR 3 YEARS?? HE DIDN’T MAKE A MISTAKE, HE HAS AN ADDICTION TO BOOTY.

Alan Powell is a good guy. If the pols were all like him, things would be a lot better in Georgia than they are. As far as the Kool Aid goes, Yikes! Take a look at the Constitution Party. Both main parties stink to high heaven with very few exceptions, they have one concern: getting their sorry selves re-elected, usually by spending our tax money on special interests.

In 1994, Newt Gingrich promised to bring integrity and accountability back to Congress. THE REPUBLICAN CONTRACT WITH AMERICA outlined ideas specific action items – promises for something better. We believed in them. Were we wrong?

They SAID they would bring about the end of government that is too big, too intrusive, and too easy with the public’s money. It would be the beginning of a Congress that respects the values and shares the faith of the American family.

It’s been 12 years. Have they done this?

Powell may be a good guy, but he represents everything wrong with politics. He was proud to be in that “good ole’ boy” bunch and bring home the bacon when Democrats were in control. Now that he is a minority in a minority party, he is suddenly an independent thinker. He has no natural allies in either party and he can’t get things done any longer. It looks like Hartwell, Toccoa and Blairsville are the only rural North Georgia communities who don’t see the writing on the wall for Georgia Democrats refuse to wake up and see reality.

Please vote the current GA Labor Commissioner Michael Thurmond out of office. If you’ve ever been unemployed and had to deal with those azzholes about your unemployment check, then you should know what i’m talking about. If you haven’t been unemployed or had to deal with them count your blessings. You have a much better chance of dealing with the IRS than the current Labor Commissioner and his staff. BOOT THEIR AZZ TO THE CURB

The Rev. Ted Haggard got the boot from his church today. That’s one paycheck he can’t collect like he tried to do by resigning Friday while the investigation is going on. Next week his wife will give his sorry azz the boot too. I can’t imagine a woman who has been ridiculed, will allow a man that has been parking his pecker in another man’s behind continue stay there and poke her.

My age is getting to me. I forgot to add that I fully endorse all Republican candidates. The hatred and intolerance that they spew fit perfectly into my grand plan for world domination. Please assist my by casting your vote for GOP candidates.

By the way, Ronnie says hello and to give em one more for the Gipper.

What is the world coming to when Christian’s are put down for living their lives according to the instructions that the Lord gave us through his scriptures. All we want is a better future for ourselves and our children. If people would stop living for themselves for two seconds and start thinking about serving others, the world would be a much better place. And as for the troubled gay pastor that has had so much publicity lately, he clearly is lost and is not living for the Lord. Do not lump him and all Pastors/Christians into the same catagory.

I would like to think that those of you that have commented on the “Kool-Aid” signs , were not alive when Jonestown met it’s demise in the early 70’s. That would be the one and only excuse for thinking this would be something that would help Alan Powell’s campaign. When i heard about the signs that were posted around town by native Hartwellians, not only was i shocked, but it turned my stomach to think that ANYONE would have the audacity to compare Republicans to Jim Jones. It’s disgusting, and way beyond childish. As a partner in business (that includes both parties) we have come to the same conclusion. Our company will no longer do business with anyone that supports the Kool Aid signs. There is a cap on what is acceptable politics, and this is not one of them. For those of you that think it’s funny (including those that actually spent their money making and distributing these signs)simply do not have ANYONE’S best interest at heart. I was born and raised a democrat, but once i had children, i realized the importance of family values and Christian upbringing. Although i am not particularly religious, the biggest responsibility i have on earth is to raise my children as good Christian boys. Having come from a family that did not believe in attending church, i think it was a path that was greatly missed throughout my young life. I have the opportunity to give them exposure to a positive path in life. This will help provide guidance when that path forks, and difficult decisions are made that will affect their future. If that makes me a born again Republican..then i welcome the title.

As for someone who indeed was alive during the early 70s, I do indeed think the Kool-aid signs will help A. Powell’s campaign…but only for those who truly think for themselves. No one is trying to compare Alan’s opponent with Jim Jones. The signs are meant to make you think…apparently those who disagree with these signs are against freedom of thought. It is obvious to me that these signs upset all the Republicans because it hits a little too close to home. Without their blind flock, Republicans cannot get elected. By the way, I am a Christian, and I will be praying about whom to vote for, not blinding following the mob mentality…that is the meaning of the signs…not comparing Alan Powell’s opponent to Jim Jones. Get Real!
