Cox’s husband: Let’s get behind Jim Martin

Aside from the people within Mark Taylor’s campaign, those most worried about the poor numbers being put up by the nominee for governor are Democrats who will appear on the ballot with him in little more than two weeks.

Taylor’s primary weakness has been his inability to unify his base: white women, African-Americans of both sexes, environmentalists, etc.

Several key Democrats have told us — going back several months — that Jim Martin, the Democratic nominee for lieutenant governor, would become the vehicle for unifying base voters, with the hope of creating a firewall to protect down-ballot candidates.

The first major sign of this came Saturday, when Martin’s campaign sent out a fund-raising letter to supporters of Secretary of State Cathy Cox, the woman who has so far refused to be seen with Taylor following her defeat in the July primary for governor.

At the bottom of the letter is the signature of Mark Dehler, Cox’s husband.

Says Dehler:

“Thank you for all of your hard work and support for my wife, Cathy Cox, in her run for Governor. With your help, we tried to raise the issues that you and I care about. Although Cathy did not win, I am proud of the race we ran and sincerely appreciate your support.

“I write today to ask you to support Jim Martin in his race for Lieutenant Governor. Jim is a long-time friend of Cathy’s and mine. We have known him and his family for over 20 years. He is a man of exceptional integrity, political courage, and commitment to the issues we care about.”

And not a word about Taylor.

Seems like Cathy Cox can not forgive Mark Taylor. I don’t blame her. Hey Cathy, you are the lucky one, other women in MT’s life have had to spend years in court trying to get over the damage done by the big guy.

Mention of Dehler’s letter is Much a do about nothing. It’s somewhat akin to and probably would have the same effect of a letter from Bobby Brown, husband of Whitney Houston, asking her admirers to support Joe Jones for Governor. Endorsements have little effect in general and practically none when they come from spouses of defeated candidates. Dehler’s letter only raises questions about how much of her own person Cathy Cox is and would have been if she had been nominated.

I think this letter is yet another symbol of Mark Taylor’s incompetence as a party leader and gubernatorial nominee.

If Mark Taylor was a true leader he’d unite his party behind him. But at least Jim Martin can do that…

The fact that Cathy Cox hasn’t endorsed Taylor is an example of an old lesson that Mark Taylor is now learning: Live by the sword, die by the sword.

You can’t run slash-and-burn campaigns and not expect that to catch up with you at some point. Unfortunately for Taylor, that seems to be catching up with him while he’s trying to win the job he’s wanted for so long.

Found on another Georgia blog site:

I am puzzled by this professed caring about children from the Big Guy. If he cares so much about children why did his first wife have to take him to court to get his to pay for his son’s milk, books, tuition, uniforms and doctor bills in a law suit that took 3 years and included bringing principals and teachers in from 3 schools? He lost, of course in Fulton County civil action #D-57854. Then he lost again in D97353 where he had to pay his son’s mother’s attorny’s fees. Of course, he likes being in court so much and thinks so much of himself that he appealed and lost again when he appealed in #S94D0932. Then again, this must be the child he forgot about when he told Sonny that he should run instead of Sonny because he, the Big Man, didn’t have a family and Sonny did. Charity begins at home. If I were you, believing that Taylor cares about any thing but himself, I’d think again. Check it out.

Maybe this is why Taylor can’t wrap up the female vote?
