Sonny gets a gentleman’s ‘C,’ with the possibility of probation

The Cato Institute, a libertarian think tank, has never been easy on Sonny Perdue. Cato gave Roy Barnes high marks for his management of tax matters, and it jumped on Perdue hard when he proposed cigarette and alcohol tax increases in his first legislative session as governor.

Cato is out with its latest report card on the fiscal responsibility of the nation’s governors, and Perdue scores an unremarkable-looking C.

Don’t call the graduation coach just yet, however. Cato grades on a hard curve. When you look at the scores, Perdue’s in a four-way tie for 8th place, with Democrats Bill Richardson of New Mexico, Brad Henry of Oklahoma and Tom Vilsack of Iowa.

“If Perdue wins a second term,” says the study, “he could improve his grade by finally cutting taxes for a change.”

Word, I’ve been waiting for him to cut taxes for four years. And spending too. And can we do something about synchronizing those traffic lights like he promised? Grrr. But Mark Taylor won’t do any better, so I’m stuck.

When it comes to accomplishments of his first term as Governor Perdue has been a modest little Governor, of course he has much to be modest about. It has been most unfortunate for our State that he suffers from delusions of adequacy.

An examination of Perdue’s record reveals that he has received failing grades in net jobs creation, education, ethics, reduced government, to name a few.

Forgive the revised reprint. The brain went to lunch while doing the former blog. Opposing viewpoints may think its still out to lunch.

At any rate, Perdue is modest when it comes to touting the accomplishments of his first term. Make no mistake, he has much to be modest about. Georgia suffers from his delusions of adequacy.

An examination of Perdue’s record reveals that he has earned failing grades in net jobs creation, education, ethics, reduced and open government, to name a few.

The Cato Institute is a Libertarian organazation, and a damm good one! Sonny cannot ever be called a Goldwater Clone (social conservative, perhaps, but the Cato sees it like it is. He has doon a good job, but he is not a fiscal Conservative. Sorry, Sonny. No hard feelings!
