When life imitates art that imitates life
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
State offices were closed Monday to celebrate the Third Day Before Christopher Columbus Landed in America. It’s always nice to see a multi-cultural nod to this special, brief period in 1492 that Native Americans refer to as the Apex of Western Civilization.
The state Capitol was shuttered, too. Except for the movie crew that rented the place out. Reports from security guards and gophers vary. Either a remake of “Revenge of the Nerds” or “Return of the Nerds.” Definitely something to do with nerds.
Word was that Room 341, a massive chamber normally occupied by the House Appropriations Committee, was to be the scene of a climactic, wild fraternity tribunal. They were going for historical accuracy — or so we were told.

How appropriate, since our legislators here in Georgia (as well as the ones in Washington) seem to think they are part of a great big FRAT PARTY. They have forgotten they took and oath (and a paycheck) to represent the people of their districts and the best interests of us all. Instead, they look to Brother Bluto, or Niedermeyer as it were, to tell them: Vote YES on this one, NO on that one, and then trot this pie chart out for the C-SPAN cameras so our buddies in the banking industry can get the new screws they want. “Oh, and don’t forget to strut around like you’re very big and important….”

The frat party description sounds quite a bit like the Travis Tritt concert hosted by the road lobby.

Libertarians - hmph - just another wing of the Republicans only they are more honest about individual rights and liberties and don’t masquerade behind religion. In fact, Libertarians have a disdain for religion. But make no mistake about it, they ARE Republicans and will vote Republican.

What I like about Libertarians: While, like the Republicans, they don’t care if you starve to death or die from curable diseases because you can’t afford medical treatment, at least they’re HONEST about it! They don’t feign “godliness” and purport that “it’s for your own good we let you starve and deny your freedoms,” nor are they sick enough to stick their noses into your bedrooms.

Exactly what part of the national Republican record or agenda should appeal to Libertarian voters? Our united Republican government has offered up huge budget deficits, massive new entitlements, larger federal bureaucracies, expanded federal and executive powers, and an attitude toward civil liberties that is, at best, indifferent. And they dropped the ball on Social Security reform. Other than tax cuts, what is there that mirrors a libertarian political philosophy in the DC GOP?
So how should Libertarians vote next month? They should vote Bull Moose
