About all those Mexicans: ‘Barnes and Taylor brought them here’
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Immigration has become the chosen weapon of the Georgia Republican party for general bashing of Democrats this season.
You’ve seen Gov. Sonny Perdue’s mailer accusing Taylor of an alliance with radical homosexuals. That was a bit of fluff aimed at re-assuring the religious conservative base.
This is the kind of mailer that matters to Republicans this October — if the topic’s use in this and other races is any guide.
Here’s a bit of the language in the Perdue mailer: “For years the Democratic Barnes/Taylor administration ignored the growing masses of illegal immigrants flowing into Georgia. They allowed these illegal immigrants access to taxpayer-funded state services and benefits, causing Georgia to become a magnet for illegal immigration.”
The Perdue mailer also gigs Taylor for opposing the 2005 voter photo ID law. But the statute has been transformed. When first presented, it was a measure aimed at alleged excesses by African-American political machines. In the mailer, it’s become a tool “which stops illegal immigrants from voting.”

Disgusting, pathetic political pandering. When did it become an acceptable practice to attach an absentee ballot to a campaign flyer?

Both of these fat redneck blow hards disgust me.I will cast my vote to the Libertarian Party this year, so will several of my family members and friends. The Sonny Do ads are so sickening they made my dog throw up on my new rug. Taylor is a good ole boy in disguise trying to run as an inclusive candidate. Both of these men scare the heck out of me. What has Sonny done for me lately? He turned me Libertarian, thats what!

What can Sonny Purdue say he’s going to do if he’s re-elected as Governor of Georgia that couldn’t have done in the last 4 years as Governor? What nerve! What political pandering! What patronization! Does he actually think Georgia voters are that stupid? Are they? Are you? And another thing. Why would anybody spend $2 million to do a job that only pays $200k? Can you spell Pre-meditated Political Corruption? Or Under-the-table dealings once you’re in office? What’s on my “Sonny-Do-List?”. To get that slim-ball out of Office this coming November!!! That’s what!!!!

Oh, so Sonny is responsible for all the good things, like the economy, but isn’t responsible for the bad things, like illegal immigration.
Yes, folks, that’s the Republican party…the party of personal responsibility.

You think Taylor is any better? A fat drunkard who “works” in daddy’s business for 100 grand per annum, but, as far as can be seen, does nothing. And, the so-called libertarians are no better. In case you didn’t know, after 9/11, the official site ran a column which, in essence, said: “We had it coming.”
All politicians are crooks & liars.

opk Folks-you cannot get a lot done in politics in 4 yrs unless you have a house and seante that goes along with you. Vote out the Democrats and see how quickly Sonny’s ideas get passed. Remember, the Meximelts were here during the Barnes Administration-and he did zip about it as well as the Democrats. Demos are still the No vote on the Flag party. Now they are the come as you are and vote party.

All I can say is that, despite her weaknesses during the primary, Cathy Cox would NOT be 20+ points down to Sonny Perdue at this point in the race. Period.
Mark Taylor is a sorry candidate with no real vision for our state. It’s a sad statement that, even given the national political environment, Mark Taylor can’t even make it a close race against Purdue. That’s more a reflection on Mark Taylor than it is on Sonny Purdue. Purdue is not that strong of a governor, and there’s no reason he should be this far ahead.

Yo War Damn Eagle:
In case you’ve been in a coma for the past 4 years, let me make this clear:
The GA Governor’s office, House and Senate have been controlled by the Republicans for the past 4 years.
Sonny and the Rethugs have had 4 unencumbered years to get something done. They are a Do-Nothing bunch that’s not concerned about you and me. They’re only concerned about their own power and their own bottom line.
And to you, Yea Verily…
MT could have made much more in the private sector being a lawyer for the past 20 years. Instead, he chose public service. Good for him!!

I don’t recall the purpose of the voter ID bill being stated as a way to shut down “alleged excesses by African-American political machines.” Democrats said that was it’s purpose. In reality, dealing with voter fraud was the real purpose.
Since illegal immigrants cannot vote, requiring a valid photo ID would indeed discourage those illegals who might consider voting from doing so.

The last thing someone who’s “illegal” wants to do is to go into a government office (or polling place) where someone might ask them questions and someone might have a badge on who will put them in jail.
Requiring a picture ID is only putting a burden on older citizens (who don’t drive or are in nursing homes or can’t travel or don’t have a car) to take an extra step to vote.
The biggest possibility for fraud is in counting the votes, not in being a voter.

Sonny had to present his ID to buy beer. Mark Fat Guy Taylor didn’t have to present his ID to buy cocaine. Now do you understand.

What I don’t understand is the GOP leadership screaming about fake IDs and forged documents, etc. If ID’s can be faked tell me what does it matter if we require photo IDs? It seems like the GOP is a dog chasing its tail. The issue makes no sense. They are contradicting each other. But who am I to question if those in power ever contradict their own message?

Here’s a joke.
**Why do you never hear about the Libertarian candidates?
Answer, Because the other two slimebags can’t come up with anything nasty and true to say about them.**
Vote Libertarian in the General election to tell the other two just how revolting they are. Then pick the lesser of the two evils in the Run off.
Till then, remember 3 points about every problem we have today.
Democrats and Republicans got us into the mess we are currently in.
Republicans and Democrats always promise they’ll fix it.
If they fixed it, they’d have nothing to campaign on.
And lets face it, if Sonny and Taylor gave half a box of donut’s thought about any of our issues, wouldn’t they have done it already? I mean if you can blatently get the legislature to pass a sweetheart land deal, of if you can get lots of Govt work for your family and friends; couldn’t you throw us a bone once and a while and come up with a solution to an issue?
But you cant blame them for trying,… Your legislators always tend to vote for things they didnt read. That way if it turns out bad they can say “They tricked us!” or of course “They slipped that in there without telling us!”
Vote Libertarian in the general, and lesser of two evils in the run off! The other two parties will start behaving when you stop rewarding them with votes.

By all means vote Libertarian. Both parties need to be knocked in the head to get their attention. Build momentum and work for a win, not spoiler status

VOTE LIBERTARIAN while you still have the chance in Georgia…the slimeball demopublicans in North Carolina disenfranchised 13,000 registered Libertarians, and ousted them from any ballot access status again…a lawsuit is pending.
What are the demopublicans afraid of? Its time for another party to rise up if the LP cannot grow…they’ve had their chance now for 30 years…next.

Governor Perdue is only working towards spreading false and xenephobic statements that will continue to seperate communities. He uses communities as his scapegoats to increase his political gain in a dirty manner. He does not deserve my vote and he will not be getting my vote.

The greatest opportunity for fraud is presented in the use of absentee ballots, yet the Republicans have not tried to eliminate fraud in this area because it’s generally believed that more Republicans use this method of voting, i.e. it’s not fraud that the Republicans want to eliminate, but non-Republican voting. Perdue is just pandering to his base.
Also, the spectre of illegal aliens voting is hysterical - like Jawja Peach says, the last thing an illegal alien wants to do is put himself in a situation where he’ll be asked for legal documents. Not to mention that they could care less about our elections.
Much of the present hysteria about illegal immigration is just disguised racism &/or the standard U.S. response by established immigrants to new immigrants. The English & German settlers felt the same way, & made basically the same racist comments, about the Italian, Irish & Russian immigrants that created new swarming tenements full of violence, poverty & people who couldn’t speak English. Read our history - it might give all you fearful “they’re invading us” types a sense of perspective.

I am saddened by Gov. Perdue’s inflamitory rhetoric especially in light of his overwhelming lead over Taylor. There is no need to inflame hostility and xenophobia when you are so far ahead in the polls, why not try and resolve some of the serious issues facing Georgians? Why he is attacking the Hispanic community is beyond me. Norcross, Gainesville, Chamblee, Doraville, the International Village off the I-85 corridor, cities throughout the south of the state will all go bankrupt if we followed Perdue’s advice to its logical conclusion. This is not what Perdue really wants, cities throughout Georgia to go bankrupt, but he feels he must appeal to his base. Is it possible that racism plays a role in Perdue’s politics? I seem to remember that it was all about the stars and bars the first time Perdue got elected. What upsets me more is that there are a good many well intentioned Christians in his base who go along with this, forgetting that the Bible, both OT and NT, demands that we treat the foriegner in our lands as we treat our citizens. The issue of immigration is complex indeed and something does need to be done, but the scorched earth policy of this administration will not help to resolve the problems we face in a modern globalized society. The fact that this is a Federal Government issue and not a state issue seems to be lost on the Gov. but if he wants to align himself with Pat Buchannan and other xenophobes all we can do is vote, protest, march, write letters, and raise a ruckus. I am a Georgian by birth but I am ashamed of my elected officials and consider it an insult to the great State of Georgia that they continue to act with such hatefulness to the people who helped build (and I do mean build) the economy of Georgia.

Oh I forgot this is America SPEAK ENGLISH!!! For those of you who care to know what I said..it was. Hello Atlanta, I live in Georgia…I am not a immigrant…I am a Citizen of the United States of America whose parents and grandparents came from South America (they are citizens too and they vote). I have lived in Georgia for 18 yrs and everytime I have a chance to vote I VOTO because it’s my right to be the voice of my children’s future. Governor Perdue is not the person that I want representing me in front of President Bush when there is the meeting for Governor’s in Washington, DC. There is too much focus on the Mexican’s in the media but what about the other immigrants that quietly slip in and do your pedicure’s, manicures, Chinese food, clothing stores, run gas-stations, and drive taxi’s in the Atlanta area. Want to know why they are quiet…BECAUSE THEY CAN’T VOTE EITHER IF THEY ARE NOT CITIZEN’S…AND THEY TOO USE THE RESOURCES OF OUR STATE WHEN THEY ARE NOT INSURED…AND THE LIST GOES ON…My vote will count this year…FOR WHO???????? Perhaps a write-in of my choice. That’s legal right?!

I’ve been in Georgia for 16 years, and even when I have seen people mistreat others because of race, I decided to stay. I’m an immigrant, and also a citizen of this country. I’m not voting for Perdue, because I am tired of seeing how the Republicans run office. The Republican Party is always blaming the democrats for this and that (we just have to spend 5 minutes watching a news channel to see that!), but the reality is that they don’t care. Last election the issue to win, was the gay marriage, before was the flag, and now is the undocumented!!! They are not capable of really solving the problems! They just look for issues that will get more attention, and will make people forget about the real issues of concern. Governor Perdue is not the answer for our state… Georgia cannot continue having a Governor that has such a narrow mind, and such a lack of humanity. I wanted Cathy to win, because I’m sure that she would of done a remarkable job, and Georgia would of set an example, but hey I’m voting for Taylor, because there’s no way that I would be able to stand another Republican term!!!!

Sonny Perdue, Mark Taylor seems to be cowards. They have not answered a letter I sent to both of them challenging them to come to the area where ICE/HOMELAND SECURITY performed unnecessary violent raids at the homes of some US Citizens and undocumente migrant workers. They left behind the wifes with chikdren with no way to provide for their needs, food, water, rent etc. no money to return to Mexico or a way to find out when theoir husbands would be deported or where they be taken too.
They entered the homes without a warant, treatened to use gas and force to get in. Confiscated what littele documentation they had from their countries and just told them to wait for a leeter with instructions???
So how are they to feed their kids, their husbands where working at the local poultry plant where taxes were deducted, social security and medicaid. iIf this was not the case they would have shot down the plant. No one tells you the truth that undocumented Immigrants do pay taxes and everything else we do, but cannot get on welfare as Sonny claims, cannot get on Medicaid ot anything else.
They only present what sounds outrageous to you. They dont tell the whole truth. The real problem is that there is no legal way to get into the USA if you are an unskilled worker. We create at least 485,000 new unskilled jobs a year and only permit 5,000 VISAS. You can figure why there is a problem cant you…. Sonny Perdue and Mark Taylor cannot… Why vote for them if they cannot do simple math!!!!
PLEASE HAVE THEM FIX THE LAW!!! NOT THE PEOPLE!!!
