The Chiefs of Staff report: Perdue in good shape, but not “safe”

Around the state Capitol, McKenna, Long & Aldridge has been known as the legal and governmental affairs firm with a foot on both sides of every fight.

Two of their associates are Keith Mason, once chief of staff to Democratic Gov. Zell Miller, and Eric Tanenblatt, former chief of staff to Republican Gov. Sonny Perdue. They’ve put together a national analysis of 36 races for governor this November, noting that Democrats are positioned to claim control of a majority of gubernatorial mansions.

And in Georgia? They list the Perdue-Taylor race as “leans Republican,” but not “safe Republican.”

Read the entire Mason-Tanenblatt report here, but keep in mind that they’ve underestimated the strength of Kinky Friedman’s campaign in Texas. Outrage over his friend Willie Nelson’s arrest on pot charges is sure to give Kinky a boost.

In the meantime, here’s what the pair say about Georgia:

“Gov. Sonny Perdue continues to have a significant lead over Lt. Gov. Mark Taylor, and enjoys a large fund-raising advantage. Though Taylor is a proven and veteran campaigner, his campaign has not closed the gap since the July primary. Perdue’s win in 2002 was the biggest upset the country among governors. It will take a similar effort by Taylor to prevail in 2006.”

The Mason-Tanenblatt report! Why do you all bestow credibility to Georgia’s best a.. kissing individuals, as well as law firm?

Their opinion has no more credibility than mine, which is that Taylor will defeat the “accident Governor” because Perdue has no real record of accomplishment and Taylor has the resources and tactical capability to make it known.

Sonny has lied one time to the Georgia voters(the state flag vote)and he will lie again and again, this is what people who lie do. I voted for Sonny the first time, but NEVER again.

Link to this We have gone from the “Sonny Did” list to the “Sonny Do” list, and we are waiting for the “Sonny Did’t Do” list, the “Sonny Couldn’t Do” list, and “Sonny Never Intended To Do” list.

The is this the Governor who spent most of his term in office trying not to step on d**! As much as he tried to play a game of defense could never get it going. He tried to have public vists with the Gov. and that fizzle! He tried to pass what he considered stong Ethics Legislation and that got watered down and possible saved him from further ethical violations, because of his Land Deals in Fla. and Ga. He installed an Office to Investigate Violations in State Government and that fizzle!

He tried to become a Helicopter Pilot and lacked the qualifications. He then had the Pilot fired for blowing the whistle on him for having dual controls installed in the helicopter!

He became the first Sitting Governor in Georgia’s history to have been found guilty and fined for Ethical Violations!

I think if Sonny would go back to “The Farm” he seems to miss so much. We wiil not miss him or missteps. So add this to your “Sonny Do” List!

Taylor and Barnes sold everything under the dome. Just check their appointments against the contributions received and even a blind person can see the truth in their actions. Taylor will never catch up no matter how many commercials Andrew makes for him. Best question that has ever been ask of the Ga voters, WHY GO BACK???

Joe T you are quite optimistic about your candidate who has no real record of accomplishment on health care, crime, education, juvenile justice, economic development, to name a few. An analysis of Perdue’s proposal to untax retirees pensions shows that it will benefit only people in the high income end. That will be exposed just like his land deal.

Why would we want to go back? Because we now know that what we got is not what we need to grow Georgia.
