The devils they didn’t get
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
One more bounce on the “moderate topic. Think of all the strategies spun by Democrats this year that revolved around demonizing Ralph Reed, and all those spun by Republicans that depended on Cynthia McKinney being there to associate other Democrats with.
So now what are they going to talk about? Issues?
Jim Martin accepted his party’s nomination Tuesday night by describing himself as a church elder and a grandfather. Casey Cagle’s campaign responded to his win by promising to avoid personal attacks. Whoever thought that was going to be the race for lieutenant governor?
And since no one else has asked the question: Has secretary of state become the “woman’s race in Georgia politics?

Who is going to have the whole story of the shenanigans tonight at the Omega World Center. Brenda Wood and co. on Channel 11 were mighty shook up by what they had heard and seen from their WXIA folks at the McKinney election event.
They showed video of pushing and shoving, camera hitting ground maybe, when McKinney arrived.
They talked of Cynthia supporters running out and in of the big room, running into a small room, lots of back and forth.
They spoke of WXIA employees being chased by threatening folks back to the satellite truck where the McKinney folks tried to bust in.
They said 911 was called and that police were handling much worse stuff outside than the on-camera people were seeing inside.
They made repeated comments that it was all very ugly and a bad ending for Cynthia, whose campaign would “have to explain” the incidents — and this before that speech.
Cynthia alluded to some of this by saying she had a supporter who required stitches (lawsuit!) at the hands of the media and her mother was hurt by the press (Bill Campbell know where you’re coming from Cynthia!).
After those zingers in her speech, Brenda and co. didn’t really deliver the goods with a run-down of the shenanigans. Yes, she’s a loser and will be gone soon, but who will tell us the story?
C’mon Political Insider, call up the assignment desk and get someone on this. If the AJC can tell us when she’s in an Escalade and when she’s in a Hummer, they can give us the dirt on the denouement.
Thank you.

Since the Nov. election will not be for President, the Dems and Repubs need to play the numbers game. The one who gets their folks to the polls will win. The Dems usually are better at this however we haven’t heard much from Gov. Perdue and his hugh war chest. I expect a ad blitz around late Oct. where Taylor won’t have the funds to do equal battle.

How could anyone be surprised by the outragous antics of the Mckinney crowd. I can hardly wait to hear her version. After hearing her rant tonight and watching the pushing and shoving,I’m sure she must be a sandwich or two short of a picnic,a real classless nut case. Steve Bartons right we can rest assured she’s a loser and will be gone soon.I hope we’ve heard the last of the Mckinneys.

No, the SoS hasn’t become the “womans race.” What the race for SoS has boiled down to is: Gail Buckner has loaned her campaign $245K, Karen Handel is running on vision and issues. Buckner, with her own money wishes to buy the office, Handel will answer to the people, Buckner to her own aspirations. The office of SoS will not be determined by which candidate wants to buy it, but by which candidate will best serve the people of Georgia. Not Katheryn Harris Buckner, but the alternative Handel 06.

handel’s a handle folks… a staffer. a former staffer of perdue’s who is almost as inexperienced (still) as the “former perdue ‘staffers’” who have run his impotent gubernatorial effort and who presently run his sadly deficient re-election bid (i. e., Nick ‘Judas’ Ayers recent show of his own enormous lack of cofidence in his own boss’s capability).
this is getting fun, guys. they not only hate us. they hate themselves.
you heard it here first. this group (who is presently running/embarrassing our state) either (1) could never get hired or (2) would rapidly get fired even if they tried their hands as rodeo or circus clowns (certainly not to take away from the impressive talent and skill of true rodeo/circus clowns.
this ship is a ship with the real potentially of sinking itself, not to mention the possibility of someelse a little more coherent sinking that ship for them.

Hey, Mr. Republican Dawg!! What happened to your State Senators last night? They got their tails handed to them on a platter!
The results last night were a repudiation of negative campaigning and anger directed at the state senators. Prepare yourself for November. There may be incumbent GOP state senators that are defeated.
Every single Reed supporter I knew voted for Handel and Black.
Call what happened Reed’s revenge! And that is just the beginning. Wait until November.
The state senators and Cagle have some “explaining” to do.
I hear that the GOP State Senators that supported Reed have been told by Cagle and his supporters that their legislation won’t even make it out of committee . HUGE MISTAKE. Obviously, Cagle and his supporters want this fight to continue.
Deb, why don’t you send this out to your email list and let the masses know what is going on?

We’re off to a much better beginning than we’ve had in years with yesterday’s elections. Finally, some very poorly performing incumbent representatives have been defeated, and a message (or should I say clear message? is there any other kind?) has been sent. If you’re in office, do a much better job of representing your constituents, and stop accepting bribes from special interests groups and professional lobbyists. Do the right thing! Balance the budget, to include means to quickly pay off the debt. Reduce government dramatically. Return basic freedoms. Replace the IRS and income tax with a national sales tax, and stop throwing away our hard earned money. Pork spending must be stopped! Provide line item veto to prevent the spending abuses of tax payer’s dollars. Pull in the Federal Reserve and stop printing dollars, which is the only cause of inflation. Return our currency to a gold standard and get off the fiat money system. Become responsible!

Congratulations to Senator David Shafer following the election. I was a Shafer delegate when he ran for party chair and I am glad he is back on top.
He orchestrated Cagle’s amazing defeat of Reed. He backed Karen Handel. He is on the verge of leading the Senate.
I’m sure he will be rewarded by Mr. Cagle and the Cagle senators with the honor of serving as majority leader or president of the senate. I hope so.
So while we congratulate the candidates who won, let’s also congratulate the power behind the throne, Sen. David Shafer, a conservative Republican hero.

Shafer also supported Kemp and he lost badly.
Cagle has not won in November either.
There is alot of anger directed at that State Senators now because of Shafer’s orchestration of the Cagle campaign.
If what I hear is true about the Cagle people including Shafer retaliating against the state senators that supported Reed, there will be a very public battle.
You are putting the cart before the horse. November is not here yet.
I know longtime GOP activists that are starting a Republicans for Buckley movement…
And then there is the state convention next year…

David Shafer is also the reason so many voters are mad at the state senators.
Cagle won because of anti Reed votes not because of anything Shafer did and not because of Cagle’s credentials. Get a grip on reality.
Shafer is the reason Cagle ran such a negative campaign.
Shafer will be part of the reason Cagle loses in November.
As Debbie pointed out, Shafer also strongly supported Kemp and he got defeated very badly.
I will vote Libertarian in November to send a message to Cagle about the negative campaigning…

PRIMARY BELIEFS
The private sector is more efficient than public sector
Separation of church and state
Competition is good
Government should exist only to serve the people, by handling things of common benefit that cannot be done efficiently on an individual basis (e.g., police services)
Eminent domain needs to be restricted to traditional government needs
Open government is essential
Entitlements are not good
Parents should be responsible for taking care of their children
Protection of the environment
A reasonable immigration policy should be enforced, primarily by significantly penalizing employers that hire illegal immigrants
Fiscal Responsibility is a MUST

Give me a break. This crap about the State Senators is worthless. You conspiracy nuts out there want to make this all about them. This had nothing to do with anger. If it truly were anger the percentages each got would have been different. if you conclude that then Reed lost because of the same reason by the same percentage. Are you all willing to say Reed is on the same level as Stephens and Kemp? Plus Stephens wasn’t even one of those “Senate Mafia” types anyways. He was a good ol’ boy Zell candidate that lost. I guess Zell’s crew completely failed as well. DO you agree with THAT assessment?
Reagan Conservative…did they get beat that bad? So I guess Ralphie got spanked as well. I want you to say that Ralph’s message and campaign is on this same level…failed and worthless.
I’m happy that all of your ‘friends’ voted for Handel and Black. I know loads of Cagle supporters who did the same. What does that mean? It means clearly you have NO grasp on politics and like to be a Cynthia McKinney type agitator making absurd comments. I know loads of Reed supporters who pushed HARD for Stephens. They’re crying for TWO losses. What of them? So Philly, Debbie, Reagan Conservative….keep up the nutty McKinney conspiracy theories. I love it!

So Shafer has a much better track record than Zell. That is quite good. At least he has winning candidates. With Handel and Cagle he had convincing wins. Facing strong lobbyist and “Congressional Mafia” support of Black, his support of Kemp was uphill.
I’m not sure how Philly can make such assertions that Shafer was responsible for so much negativity. I don’t think Shafer had anything to do with Reed accusing Cagle of breaking several laws but never offering proof. I guess accusing people of breaking several state and federal laws is an ethnical and Christian way to run a campaign. I guess bearing false witness is taken out of certain people’s Ten Commandments.
Philly…you go right ahead and vote Libertarian. Frankly those like you who condone breaking Ten Commandments can go be hypocrites elsewhere. For those of you who refuse to acknowledge that Reed ran a sleazy campaign are blind to reality. I’m still waiting on proof that the media and the gay crossover vote helped Cagle. Debbie, Philly, and Reagan Conservative sound awfully like Cynthia did in her rant last night. How does that feel to sound no different than a grumpy Cynthia? Are you proud? Perhaps Cynthia will run for Lt. Gov and birds of a feather will help her.

Cynthia, honey, take responsibility for your actions for a change. Could it be that you lost the election due to your outrageous behavior and not the Media? I love your smile but am embarrassed by your actions.
Also, talk about disenfranchised: I am a Moderate Democrat in Forsyth County (yes, we really do exist). Voting as a Democrat in the Primary, there were zero choices for me in the Forsyth County Commissioners races. Since no Democrats run for most of the positions in Forsyth County, I get no vote, except in a General Election.

Win for the wackadoo wing
Leftward, march! The sucking sound you heard from Connecticut last night was the air going out of the war on terror. At least among many Democrats. The party’s voters have spoken - and they are wrong to try to fire Joe Lieberman after three distinguished terms in the Senate. Now we know what a nutmeg really is. It has something to do with a nutty decision.
Don’t buy the baloney that Lieberman lost his primary race because he had lost touch with his home base on a range of issues. Rich upstart Ned Lamont was all about Lieberman’s support for the Iraq war and coziness with President Bush. That’s what this election was about, period.
So now that the wackadoo wing of the party has a bloody scalp, what are they going to do with it? Wave it at Islamic terrorists in Iraq and Lebanon and Afghanistan and Indonesia and Great Britain and Spain and Israel and New York and declare peace? That will work for sure. They better also wear armor and duck.
Lieberman is the first casualty of the war against the war on terror. If last night’s results are a window on the party’s tilt, then a huge slice of the Democratic party is ready to sit out the war to protect America. God help us if the Republicans also get the wobblies. Let’s hope the Connecticut Condition isn’t contagious. And let’s hope last night’s decision is overturned.
Lieberman’s decision to stay in the race as an independent is the right one. Given the close margin, all the state’s voters deserve a chance to have their say. Perhaps they will fix what the Democrats broke.
That many Americans are disgusted with events in Iraq is understandable. Nothing has gone as planned or promised, a point Lieberman made with some regularity. But wars never go easily, and thus are always unpopular at some point.
Even “good” wars have their bad moments, causing otherwise sensible people to look for the exits.
That is happening across our nation with Iraq, which, given the lousy intelligence on weapons of mass destruction, never was a “good” war. Yet Iraq, in all its hellishness, is important, even vital to regional stability and American security. Unplug America’s commitment there, which is what the Lamont crowd is about, and how exactly does that help us? Will the terrorists suddenly stop attacking us and our allies?
And does the price of peace also require us to abandon Israel and the moderate Arab governments who are our allies in fighting the terrorists? Indeed, there was a surreal quality to the television news last night: Stations cutting away from the Israeli-Hezbollah war to update the election results, and vice versa. Too bad no one thought to link them as two parts of one story, which is what they are.
Congressional Democratic leaders recently demanded that Bush begin withdrawing our troops this year, regardless of events in Iraq. They called it a “redeployment.” When I said that redeployment was another word for retreat, a top party operative disagreed. He said, earnestly, that Dems favored keeping about 35,000 troops “in the region” as something like a police force. “We could go back into Iraq if we had to,” he said.
This is fantasy. And that’s what Lamont’s victory is based on. That somehow we can pull out of Iraq, tell the terrorists they win - and we and our allies will not suffer any consequences. And if those Islamists misbehave, well, we’ll just scoot back over there with our police force and arrest those naughty fellows.
I believe that Islamic terrorists will stop at nothing in their mad quest to rule the globe. As a result, World War III has started, whether we like it or not. It will continue, whether we fight back or not. But if we think we can win by not fighting, then we’re not just wrong. We’re nuts. As in nutmeg.

I like the “Reed’s Revenge” title coined by one of your bloggers. (R.Reed probably wouldn’t.) We should make it clear to the Democrats that our helping to elect Martin should not not be a cause to celebrate. We can’t stand the idea that a liar like Cagle is in charge of the Senate. We survived 4 years with Lt. Gov. Taylor under Republican leadership…we can do just as well under Martin. Cagle has already threatened Senators who didn’t support him…and what would happen to Erik Johnson with Cagle running things???
This refusal to vote for Cagle will not carry over to other offices. If Gail Buckner was a male we would call her an “empty suit.” As a woman the closest I can come to is an “empty mumu.” Irwin doesn’t need us to defeat Black…he is there till HE decides to leave.

Oh Debbie don’t get me wrong. I’m entertained by your posts. I just find it amusing that someone in a party leadership position cannot come up with anything on her own other than insults and whining. When it comes to anything with substance, it’s all from some other source.
By all means, keep posting what you do. Each post just solidifies my point.

Hey, I got a novel idea. Why don’t the media ask the candidates the questions and ask them about the real issues and put their answers in the paper, on the news instead of all of the stupid celebrity fluff. That is what I need to know, to read to be informed about, try giving me some facts so I can decide on what is best for this country and GA. That is enough commentary, enough speculation. Ask. Some. Hard. Questions. Please. It is coming up to election year and the media has researchers and reporters, right? Well, this time report to us relevant things and ask relevant questions. I am sure the folks who write this stuff (news) would be releived to actually write about it and not rehash old news or another story about Madonna. Tell us stuff we really do not know but need to know without giving only one sided baised stories so I and other voters do not have to get accurate info by performing indepth research ourselves via the Information Act on candidates or via foreign media (BBC) etc. and then we can really and with knowldege decide on the best candidate when we go to vote. Like for instance why did no one tell us stuff about Clayton County building a Recreation Center across the street from a jail facility a looooonnnnggg way down Tara Blvd.? Who is the facility suppose to serve there exactly? That would have been a great question for a reporter to ask. Why has no one told us about that type of stuff. Ooops. The media dropped the ball there huh? Too much news about celebrities that we really do not care about for our real life concerns during an election period. News flash, there are tabloids, magazines and programs that do that for us now. Tell us, the voting public info we need to know about our officials, laws etc. Tell us how incumbents voted previously on issues and ask them why have they changed their stance, or why do they stand by their decision. We. Want. Real. News. Now. It is time to vote on serious stuff again you know. That type of info would be so very helpful. Just a thought. Thanks for considering.

It looks like all the “Interns” i.e., Security Guards and “Special Assistants” i.e., Cynthia’s son and other “staff members”, will have to find gainful employment. Hey! Here is an idea, have someone add the following words to the Cynthia McKinney road sign “BYE BYE CYNTHIA”. By the way, the Capital Police are planning their own Bar-B-Q party to give Cynthia and company a real D.C. send off for those losers. Hey Cynthia, don’t forget to turn in your Congressional ID pin, you won’t be authorized to wear one anymore and you will have to use the “Public” door for future visits to the Capital Building. Make sure your “boys” are not carrying any weapons, we would love to bust them.

Yep, Bye Bye Ms. Buckwheat! Ought to be a song in there somewhere. Yeah, no more embarassment to Georgia and this nation. Now what’s scary about Ms. Buckwheat is her affliation with the “New” Black Panthers, and other extremist groups. Thank the Lord she’ll be out of official capacity in Washington. Hopefull the people of this state and nation have the smarts to NEVER let her get in a position of real influence again. She can run her impudent mouth all she wants as long as she’s not in OFFICE anywhere.
