The waiting game
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
At a little past 9:30, Hank Johnson came downstairs to his victory party at the Decatur Holiday Inn and announced to his supporters that “we’re in for somewhat of a long night.”
Worthy caution. Johnson was holding to a strong lead in the early returns, but DeKalb is still a blank in the early returns.
This is when the house band reverts from energizing funk to elongated lounge. There’s time to kill.

Will be tuned to WSB from the Georgia mountains. Want Johnson. Long night indeed. I’d rather him be up there green and learning than another minute of McKinney’s clear eyed belligerance.

I raise a glass in hopes of a McKinney defeat. Seriously, who are the jokers that are voting for her? Oh that’s right! The uneducated, no thinking, sheep - that’s who votes for her.

Cynthia - the public has spoken - we don’t want you to speak for us - we are tired of your flimsy rhetoric and your smear campaign. We hold the power….the most powerful instrument available…one person, one vote. DeKalb is proud of its newest representative. Your term here is at long last over and we ask you most respectfully to go just go away.

Cynthia never deserved a street named after her in the first place. What positive impact did she make on this country while she was in office? Her entire term was plagued with foolish comments and unwise decisions. Yes, those that do not agree with her are rejoicing in the fact that she is no longer a candidate in this election. This does not make them lynchmobbers or trash.

I feel sorry for those who can only say that they did not vote for CM was because she was controversial. Never giving specifics as to what made or makes her controversial, but just that she was controversial. You have no idea of the power of the media to dissade, to disseminate misinformation, to downright lie and to slant toward whatever they want. There is no real free press in America.
If controversy is so bad, then guess what, so was Ghandi, Malcom X, ML King and Jesus. If they were running would YOU have voted for them…..how quick the people of GA forget.
All you SMART people who voted for the dim witted, slow and no talking and powerless, Judas Goat Hank Johnson to represent the people of DeKalb Cty will find out what it is NOT to have representation, e.g., what did Denise Majette deliver to the 4th Congressional District when she bought the lie of crossovr Republicans?
It will be amazing when you SMART people look at the actual voting results from the redistricted District lines, to see how many votes actually came from DEMOCRATS alone. Isn’t it amazing that you a man whose campaign was broke after the primary suddenly got a lot of money for the run off.
Oh but your payback is not yet to come, what makes you so sure that the 4th Cong District will remain in the control of the Democratic Party. It is pathetic that you who allowed yourself to be hood winked, have lost one who does speak the truth and is unafraid. You choose powerlessness. More important the African Americans EAT their own, and that is what is so shameful.
Cynthia will rise far above what you small minded and racist people think.
You know what you also allowed through this race the crossover of Racist Republicans knock out an African American who was far more qualified for Secy of State than the one nominated. You NOT only eat your young, but let others eat your young. GA Democrats ought to feel ashamed.

Oh poor pitiful victim Lou1. Boo hoo.
Attitudes like yours are what keeps conservatives and their minions inflamed and keep progress from happening.
Go ahead, label, complain, expect something for nothing. It keeps us all down.

Although I was very upset last night to see the fall of Congresswoman McKinney, I am a firm believer that everything happens for a reason. I believe what the 4th District voters thought they were doing against Ms. McKinney, may actually work to her advantage. For instance, Ms. McKinney is now free to promote nationwide her movie “American Blackout”. What happened to Ms. McKinney in the 4th District voting on Tuesday, will only provide more evidence on the information that is discussed in this movie. Is it possible that the by trying to silence the voice of Congresswoman McKinney, you have now given the platform that she needs to speak?

I appreciate Ms. McKinney and her willingness to speak out - and I believe she is a very intelligent woman. She and I agree 90% of the time on issues. However,I started voting against her when she became ineffective for the 4th district - when she was unable to bring home the same amount of “pork” her colleagues in the Georgia delegation were bringing to their districts. And I believe she was unable to influence the budget because of the timing of her stands (right after 9/11) and her actions (the altercation with the Capitol police officer). Sometimes as an elected official it is not what you stand for but how many colleagues you can get to stand with you that counts the most.

Thank you “Not A Yellow Dog”
At least you stated clearly your reason for not supporting Ms. McKinney.
I believe there is greater work for her to do that is bigger than the 4th District.
However, I was hoping that we would have an opportunity to use her to get some of that “pork” over here in South Gwinnett!
