The latest word in campaign finance
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
The latest campaign disclosure filing from Bill Stephens, one of two GOP candidates in a run-off for secretary of state Tuesday, is on-line now.
Campaign manager Katie Grove cited technical problems after the form failed to appear on the state web site over the weekend.
Stephens has raised $131,120 in the last few weeks, almost exactly as much as rival Karen Handel.
About $19,000 came from a pool of current and former state lawmakers, plus two congressmen — Nathan Deal and Lynn Westmoreland.
Big-name contributors include Bernie Marcus ($1,000), Zell Miller ($1,000) and Virgil Williams ($6,000 from two entities).
Lobbyist Bruce Bowers gave $2,000, which takes the sting out of the $2,000 that his dad gave to Handel.

And apparently he’s spent it on nothing. The mail pieces aren’t hitting a quarter of the households Handel’s mail is. If he did any radio ads, I haven’t heard them, and I’m a religious listener to talk radio.
Stephens is done. Handel by 10%.

Stephens has been a great leader in the Senate and worked hard for our Republican majority in the legislature. He has the backing of many Republican leaders and will make a great Sec of State.
Mrs. Handel has criticized him for being a former democrat when he worked for Zell Miller. Yet she is happy to have a picture of herself with Sonny Perdue, who we remember also was a former Democrat. Seems hypocritical to me.
Plus she is a flip-flopper on social issues. I want someone you can trust when it comes to fundamental issues.
Stephens is the conservative candidate and I will vote for him tomorrow.

what’s funny is that just about every campaign uses the software. Why is it that everyone else can get it in on time. Also interesting is that every donation is listed as primary 2006 vs run-off 2006. This is from the same guy that was fined $14,000 for poor disclosures. Not the type of thing I want to see form someone who will be in charge of the elections process.

Why should we trust Katie? She had her old college roommate file false ethics complaints against Handel, she then denied knowing her, and only after the AJC reporter stated that he had a picture of the two did she “remember” who her roommate and co-conspirator was.

I use to support Handel until I learned her stances of gay marriage and special rights for gays. She does not reflect family values or those of most conservatives in this state.
I urge all to vote for a real conservative, Mr. Bill Stephens, who has led us to a Republican majority in our legislature. He is a real Republican and conservative leader, not someone who will reflect the cluture of gay Atlanta.

I agree that MS. Handel is not a true conservative. If she were, she would have kept her place as a secretary and housewife, and not intruded upon the manly rough & tumble of politics. It is simply not a calling for ladies who like men. Perhaps this explains her support of the lifestyle abominables?
The same problem, alas, bedevils the Stephens campaign, which employs the woman Katie Grove, who, like Mizzzz Handel, would be better off in the kitchen, like Mrs. Freedom, than in the newspaper.
Which campaign, then, to support, since both have succumbed to the wicked siren song of allowing women to participate in the political arena? I, for one, so not appreciate the imposition of these so-called “capable” females in the public forum. I cannot help but feel diminished by the spectacle.

Karen is strong on family values. She does not believe in special rights for gays. She fought with Dan Quayle for family values when it was not popular to do so.
I believe gays should be able to sign over power of attorney to their partner in case of illness so the partner can m ake life or death decisions for them. I believe all unmarried couples should have that right. Karen could believe that as well.
There is not one shred of doubt in my mind that Karen opposes gay marriage and does not believe gays should receive protection as a class under the Constitution.
