McCain & Cagle: Together again, for the first time
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Now that Ralph Reed is out of the picture, Georgia is open territory for Republican presidential hopeful John McCain, the Arizona senator.
We’re hearing that he’ll come to Atlanta on Oct. 9. We’re pretty sure it will be McCain’s first visit to the state since the Senate Indian Affairs Committee began looking into the doings of Washington lobbyist Jack Abramoff — and by extension, Reed.
McCain, of course, is chairman of that committee. The visit is a three-fer:
There’s a fund-raiser for Casey Cagle, the GOP nominee for lieutenant governor, who used much of the material dug up by the McCain committee in his TV campaign against Reed.
McCain will also be a speaker at a luncheon for the Georgia Public Policy Foundation. And U.S. Sen. Johnny Isakson has roped McCain into some sort of golf tournament. We’re not clear on the details of that last event.

I dont know why there is so much disdain for McCain. He and Giuliani are probably the only two closest things to true moderates (that I can think of right off) this country has.

McCain is the pro illegal immigration candidate. He and Ted Kennedy came up with the disgraceful Senate Immigration Bill. McCain likes to appease liberals and the press.

Most Democrats would find John Edwards, Sen. Hillary Clinton, Al Gore — and, to a lesser extent — John Kerry to be acceptable presidential nominees for their party in 2008. Roughly 7 in 10 Republicans rate Rudy Giuliani and Secretary of State Condoleezza as acceptable 2008 presidential nominees. While a majority of Republicans view John McCain as acceptable, a substantial proportion (41%) does not.

DEBBIE—I have started reading these blogs as entertainment because of YOU. I’m sorry but you are one of the stupiest people I have ever read on one of these things. Ignore those losers Debbie and keep on posting.
I detest John McCain as well and am tired of politicians like him. They walk on egg shells so the don’t offend liberals or anyone else.

As for the topic of this piece..

Activists like you truly embarass Reagan Conservatives. You are so close to the Democrats it is uncanny.
Why don’t you have the nerve to call yourself what you are- A Liberal. I bet you believe drugs should be legalized, too.
I lived in Alabama but am from Louisiana and I will match my IQ against yours anyday of the week. I design, build and maintain computer networks. I graduated from college with a 3.74 average and scored 34 on the ACT test.
Thank goodness you and betinick are not like the average Georgian. The average Georgian believes abortion is wrong, they are against gay marriage and believe the Ten Commandments should be displayed in government buildings. They believe it is ok to say prayer before a football game. In other words, you two clowns are in the minority and most Georgians agree with me.

Debbie, I believe you’re confusing the people who settled the country with the people who founded our system of government. The founders were largely Deists (Franklin, Jefferson, Madison, Allen, et al).
I urge you to check out [http://www.nizkor.org/features/fallacies/]. The sections on ad hominum and appeal to popularity should be enlightening.
I would observe that the “average Georgian” probably has much in common with the “average European” of the 15th century. They believed that the Earth was flat and had 4 corners, and that the Sun rotated around the Earth. More importantly, they believed that it was perfectly OK to burn those godless heretics (Liberals?) at the stake for their blasphemous writings.
The average Georgian also believes that the Earth is 6,000 years old and was made by Gawd with all of the cool fossils already installed for our amazement.

Thanks Debbie size 5, married, from Louisiana and not Alabama, computer whiz, IQ 34—IQ’s are archaic indicators— no longer accepted anymore as valid because of basically the people who make up the questions—-but when it comes to American history one thing for sure is you earn F. Stay with the computer industry and quit embarassing us Republicans who are moderately right and don’t give a damn about anybody’s business but their own unless that business is infringing upon others—I’m pro-prayer, anti-abortion, for Bush’s illegal immigration program, and very pro-African American as ALL true Republicans from John C. You call someone a racist and then say they’re probably someone who wants money to be paid to former slaves. First of all former slaves are dead. Second of all, I’d doubt a racist would feel that way about slavery reparations.
And to everyone here, I’d seriously question Debbie’s prognostication abilities. She predicted Reed would beat Cagle by 10-15 points and that Bush and Cheney would personally campaign hard for Ralph. She also said that as dim as it looked close to the election that Ralph had a lot still up his sleeves…..what happened Debbie?

Actually, what I can’t handle is silly twits, however well educated, putting words in my mouth. Is a liberal anyone who doesn’t agree with you? I’m actually a libertarian leaning independant (and recovering Republican), but that would involve WAY too much thinking to wrap your head around, right? It’s much easier to just push the big L button and forget about it.
I also have a hard time with people who claim to represent the Creator in order to gain political power. Apparently, so do a majority of GA Republicans (finally). I think our “constant losses” ended July 18th.
The people who used God to justify their power grabs in 15th century Europe were scum - so are the people in the Middle East who have turned their countries into backwards hellholes, and so are those who would do the same to the country founded by Washington, Jefferson, and Franklin. The forces of darkness and ignorance have always been out there - maybe now we have them on the run.

Get back to the main point please and stop attacking Debbie.
Cagle harms his chances in November by bringing McCain into his fold. We may not agree with Guilianni on all his issues, but he is the nation’s hero following 9/11.
No one knows who John McCain is. He can be with Ted Kennedy one moment and with Russ Fiengold the next. He is a firebrand who never met a TV camera he didn’t like, but a conservative Republican he is not.
I guess all those “conservative” Cagle supporters will remain quiet about this, but this does not help Cagle obtain the 44% who voted against him. If McCain is in, I’m out.

On October 26, 1967, McCain was shot down in his A-4 Skyhawk over Vietnam, by a Soviet-made anti-aircraft missile, and was held as a prisoner of war in Hanoi for five-and-a-half years, mostly in the infamous Hanoi Hilton. McCain had two broken arms and a broken leg after he ejected from his plane. McCain landed in Truc Bach Lake. After he regained consciousness, a mob gathered around him and stripped him of his clothing. He was then tortured by Vietnamese soldiers. He was bayonetted in his left foot and groin. His shoulder was crushed by another soldier’s rifle butt. He was then transported to the Hanoi Hilton, also known as Hoa Lo Prison.
Once McCain arrived at the Hanoi Hilton, he was placed in a cell and interrogated daily. When McCain refused to provide any information to his captors, he was beaten until he lost consciousness….
Republicans are wary of McCain’s “maverick” positions, including McCain’s Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act, which they charge would undermine First Amendment free speech protections, and the fact that he has sometimes sided with Democrats on issues ranging from global warming and his vote against President Bush’s 2001 tax cuts. McCain has won mixed reviews for his handling of judicial nominations, drawing criticism from some conservatives for his leadership in the Gang of 14 deal on judicial filibusters, an outcry which was later tempered by the agreement’s perceived success in averting a filibuster against U.S. Supreme Court nominees John Roberts and Samuel Alito, who won confirmation. However, these same positions are also the reasons why political moderates might support McCain in a presidential election. One area where McCain has largely won support from conservatives is in his aggressive defense of the Iraq War.

I also am a member of that nice little organization called the Junior League- which, if you may not know, is there for “promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving communities through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers.” I also go to homeless shelters and soup kitchens. I volunteer with local conservancy groups to help clean and upkeep our local parks and streams. I go to church on Sunday
Yes, Philly, I am an upstanding citizen in my community too as well. But that’s not the point, is it?
The point is that you are going to “spew the hatred” towards any person who disagrees with you or your candidate. What makes our country great is the ability for us to ‘agree to disagree’. But please, Philly, don’t force your opinions on us about a candidate. Because someone doesn’t agree with you doesn’t mean we are wrong. We just don’t agree with you. “The true measure of a our party’s strength is how they rise to master the moment when it does arrive - band together or fall apart? ” It’s time to think like a team - we win together, we lose together.

to the so-called Christians and Republicans who like to call Cagle the elementary school names, what exactly is your reasoning for hating him so much? Why are you judging him the way you are? Is it fine for your master Reed to repeatedly bearing false witness against Cagle for breaking federal and state laws but not fine to show the world that Ralph serves money over God? Even Pat Robertson said there’s an issue with him serving two masters - God and Mammon.
I guess it’s quite alright to support Reed’s sleaze and excuse that bearing false withness, lying, and deceiving, but anything Cagle says backed up with fact is sleaze.
And it’s fine for so called principled conservative Christians to go support liberals who support gay rights, gay marriage, and abortion. Go figure. Your hypocrisy knows no bounds.
